The service is good and welcoming, as is the place. But there's room for improvement. My friend and I went on a Friday. The place was almost empty. We ordered passion fruit mojitos and a quick bite. We weren't very impressed. The mojitos were too sweet and the meat was a bit cold. We also had to ask for water because the waiter never offered it to us.
The next time we went was on a Saturday because we were told they had music and people came to dance. The atmosphere was pleasant. Most of the tables were occupied by couples or friends/families, some of whom were celebrating their birthdays. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and food.
We ordered a Venezuelan "parrilla" (a Venezuelan sampler tray). I ordered a passion fruit mojito (again!), but this time I asked the waiter not to add sugar. My friend ordered a Cuba Libre (what could go wrong?). The Cuba Libre was OK, but the passion fruit... was still too sweet. Once again, we had to ask for water several times because no one offered it to us. What's the deal with water?
Overall, the Venezuelan parrilla was OK. The carne asada and chorizo were good, but the grilled chicken was cold and bland. I didn't like the blood sausage because it was incredibly bland. My friend thought it was good. The dish, according to the menu, includes yuca with mojo sauce and tostones (fried plantains). The server didn't tell us what was missing. There were no tostones! The yuca was boiled (unlike the Cuban or Puerto Rican style) without mojo sauce or garlic. Nothing!
I would go back with friends on a Saturday night to dance and drink beer. It's great to have a place like this on the northside. But I can't recommend their food or cocktails. Eat first at Sabor a Café, which is half a block away, and then go to the Latin Bar to burn off some calories!
