Let me start by saying this — I have a pretty picky palate, and most restaurants I try don't really impress me. But this place is hands down my favorite restaurant in the U.S. The food is delicious, full of character, and incredibly affordable. At this price point, it's easily one of the best restaurants in the entire country. Their Thai seafood hot pot and shrimp cupcake are absolute must-orders. The Thai seafood hot pot comes with a generous amount of fresh seafood. The shrimp is average, but the squid, scallops, clams, and mussels are all excellent. The tangy and spicy Thai broth keeps your taste buds on edge and your appetite constantly stimulated. I recommend getting the yellow noodles — they're chewy and springy, and taste amazing when soaked in the broth. If you find the noodles too firm, just toss them into the hot pot for a minute or two — they'll absorb even more flavor while softening just the right amount. But what really makes this place special is their shrimp cupcake. I’ve never had anything like it at any other Vietnamese restaurant — and many places don’t even offer it. The crispy shell and savory shrimp pair perfectly with refreshing green papaya slaw, fragrant herbs like perilla, Thai basil, and mint. Wrap it all in a big piece of fresh lettuce, drizzle some sweet-and-sour fish sauce on top, and take a big bite — you’ll feel like you’ve been instantly transported to Southeast Asia. The flavor profile is complex yet balanced, and the fact that you can enjoy it at such a low price is truly unbelievable. Even the vegetarian version is fantastic — it may not have the shrimp's umami, but it still packs so much flavor that it’s totally worth trying, even if you're a vegetarian. Their stir-fried dishes are also excellent — whether it's clams stir-fried with Thai basil or snails in creamy coconut sauce, you’ll be craving more with every bite. If you’re coming with another guy, I highly recommend getting a medium-sized Thai seafood hot pot and one shrimp cupcake to share — for just around $30 total, you'll be blown away by how much quality and flavor you get for the price.

First impression is very clean. Each table has it own tiny trash can. Restroom is also pretty clean. Price is reasonable. Sturgeon Hot Pot is so good, the broth is not too sour, the fish is fresh. We order the small size and we got 1 thick slice (2 pcs), very reasonable for sturgeon’s price. Fish sauce fried chicken and frog were good. I just wish it less sweet would be perfect. If you can eat organs, the deep fried pork organ is a must.

We ordered beef hotpot, it came with a great portion of beef and vegetables. The shrimp cake is quite special and tasty, must try! Will come back to try different hotpots 👍

My family always enjoy our dinners here. it's our go-to Vietnamese hot pot! Their chicken cartilage is delish!! I want the whole order to myself but had to share!

Such a great hole in the wall mom n pop place. The menu is extensive and the price is amazing for the amount of food! We were pressed for the two of us to finish this for less than $40!

The first time trying Tom Yum hot pot, perfect for a summer night. Kinda lose my appetite, the spicy and sour hot pot makes me really happy.

Small parking lot so leave time to find parking. Definitely a place where food is star but not fancy. As one reviewer noted, it’s a no frills kinda place. We got the seafood medium and it came w side of white and yellow noodles. Cook things in order (cook what takes longer first and seafood last!) for optimal eating experience! I loved the soup and everything was fresh and delicious 😋

Lâu Hai Sản has been my favorite Vietnamese Hot Pot since 2015. The service is usually really quick and efficient here. The servers are attentive and make sure you have everything you need and more. It can be really quiet and empty on weekdays so I try to go on those days when I just want a quick and delicious meal with friends. The wait can be fairly long on weekends during dinner time so definitely plan accordingly. Every time I come here, I always order the same thing and it never disappoints me! The Bánh Khốt as appetizers are a must here! These savory mini pancakes are made from rice flour batter mixed with coconut milk and turmeric powder, giving it this beautiful yellow color and crispy texture. It's topped with shrimp and garnished with other fresh herbs. Normally it's paired with greens such as lettuce and mint so that you can make a wrap! A dipping sauce goes along with this type of appetizer too. It's a mixture of fish sauce, lime, sugar, garlic and chili. This might sound kind of "fishy" but it's packed with so much flavor that you have to try it! Now for the star of the show... the Spicy Thai Seafood Hot Pot. This flavorful and aromatic dish is the best thing on the menu. It comes with a variety of seafood that sits around the pot and you just "push" into the soup broth to cook it! It usually comes with shrimp, imitation crab, fish balls, fish roll balls, fish cakes, mushrooms, shellfish, scallops, squid, and tofu! You can also add other protein on the side too. This soup is spicy (not like Thai spicy) and tangy and just so so delicious. Did I also mention that it comes with a side of noodles? You can choose between rice noodles or egg noodles to go with your meal. Egg noodles are my favorite to add : )

My friends and I were recently in San Jose for a trip, and we learned that many restaurants around here close pretty early compared to what we're used to in our hometowns. It was pretty late on a Saturday night, and everywhere else my friends and I wanted to go was either too busy or already closed for the night. We found that Lau Hai San was still open, so we decided to stop by for dinner. The restaurant was small but busy, but we were seated pretty fast. Service was also pretty fast, and our server was friendly and attentive as well. We had to order the Lau Hai San Thai Lan (Spicy Thai Seafood Hot Pot) of course, and the medium was just the perfect portion for my group of 3. We also ordered the Ruot Heo Chien Don (Fried Pork Intestine) and the Banh Khot (Shrimp Cup Cakes). The Banh Khot was so good. They were fluffy, light, crispy, and flavorful, and the fish sauce was prepared just right, not too salty or bland. They were definitely my favorite dish of the night. The Fried Pork Intestine was also really good as well. I've never had intestine before, so I was afraid to try them at first; they were crispy and tasted light and fresh, and the dipping sauce went really well with them. The Thai hot pot was good, but it was not spicy at all. It was definitely on the sweet side, which I liked, and it was packed with seafoods and veggies.

Vietnamese hot pot makes a great first impression. Somehow I hadn't tried Vietnamese hot pot up to this point, but the wait was worth it. Came to Lau Hai San with a friend who recommended it, and I can see why. We tried two of their signature dishes: the crispy shrimp cup appetizer and the seafood hotpot. The crispy cups were a great way to start the meal. They were served hot after being freshly friend and were accompanied by a tasty sauce and an assortment of herbs that when put all together make for a satisfying, refreshing, and balanced bite. The seafood hotpot for 2 came with a very nice assortment of items including tofu, fish balls, vegetables, and shellfish. Everything tasted great and the rich and slightly sweet broth provided great flavor and is light enough so that you can also drink it like a soup. The friendly service and casual atmosphere help you keep the focus on the most important thing which is the food. Recommended for a casual meal with friends.

Not in the greatest of neighborhoods or streets, but, wow, the food was surprisingly solid here. My friends usually just ordered the hotpot for takeout, but today, it was my family who decided to come out and eat for once. Service was okay to subpar. The staff was attentive to come back k and check up on us frequently enough, but with a notice to sell more dishes. We were asked to try all sorts of dishes that other tables were ordering. I succumbed to getting a plate of fried pork cheek. It was good, but it left us too full to finish the rest of the items we did order ourselves. The store seemed small and outdated. We were surprised they have bidets in both the men and women's bathroom. Different in both rooms, but no the less, not your typical toilet.

Came around 1:15pm for weekday lunch. Ordered beef chicken and seafood hotpot, shrimp cup cakes, ginger scallions steamed oysters and scallops. Waited a long time to get the hotpot (probably the owner should have asked if we wanted all dishes come together). Price was decent for these many items. Soup base for hotpot was tastily sweet.

Came by on a Saturday dinner around 7pm. The parking lot is pretty small. The GPS is confusing and will take you to the street right by the restaurant. The restaurants itself is homey. We were seated immediately. We ordered the shrimp cupcakes, tamarind beef, and the sweet and sour Chilean sea bass hot pot (medium for 3-4 people). They are very efficient. The beef came out first. It cooks quick on a burner at the table. The beef comes with crackers and watercress. The booth was a little small so the server was quick to clear the tamarind beef set up as soon as we were done. Shrimp cupcakes (not pictured) were my favorite dish of the night. It seems to be very popular because every other table around us also ordered that. The shrimp cupcakes can be eaten with lettuce as a wrap. I felt very healthy eating the hot pot. There's a lot of vegetables. Elephant tarp, celery and celery tops, and bean sprouts. The taste was very good too! The sweet and sourness came from the pineapples and tomatoes in the broth. We got a side of yellow noodles with the hot pot. The broth adds a lot of flavor to the noodles and some warmth. Yum! We were tempted to order another hot pot but all of this food left three people very full. The total came out to around $90. I see why this place is so popular. Glad we went.

Always one of my favorite spots to go for Vietnamese style hot pot! Very comforting for a cold day and their spicy thai seafood pot comes with a delicious soup base!!! 38. Spicy Thai Seafood Hot Pot: 5/5 Got a medium size that usually serves 3-4 but it was perfect size for our table of 2 since their portions are a bit small. Soup was so delicious, but sweet and hint of spicy, perfect for me since I can't eat spicy like that. It came with a mix of seafood: clam, mussels, scallop, shrimp, fish balls, tofu, mushrooms, and a side of greens and noodle! This place has tasty food, affordable pricing, and friendly service, can't really ask for anything more. Come check this place out, I definitely recommend!

Everyone loves this place for a reason! Fresh ingredients, tasty broth, friendly staff. Their cha ca (fried fish paste) is soooo good- it's super soft and flavorful and we grabbed an extra side order of them. Shared a medium lau between 3 ppl and had leftovers. Their broth is on the sweeter side still tangy and packed with flavor. You have the option to choose between bun (rice noodles) or mi (egg noodles). They give you a HUGE plate of fresh veggies which I love!! Always a good spot if you're craving Vietnamese tom yum hot pot!

Been here so many times I've lost count but finally decided to write review lol. We always order the small lau Thai to share if it's my husband and I. And we always order the large for hosting dinners. Broth is always consistent and flavorful - my favorite Thai hot pot in San Jose. We usually get the banh khot too if we dine in store as it comes out super crispy with a plate of veggies and dipping fish sauce. Parking can get tough here if you come during dinner time but there's street parking and the neighboring plazas

Been here a few times and it's solid place for Vietnamese style hot pot. My family likes eating here and we came to celebrate a birthday. Both the hot pot and appetizers were really good! SPICY THAI SEAFOOD HOT POT (4/5) - We love tom yum flavor so we always get this broth. It's the most popular soup here for a reason. Seafood and veggies were also good, and we recommend getting the egg noodle here. - It wasn't spicy, but I felt the sweetness was overpowering the sourness of the broth. Flavor was still good, I just thought it was too sweet. FRIED PORK INTESTINES (4.5) - Crispy with a nice chew! It tasted great with the sweet and sour sauce and I liked the pickled daikons. The daikons helped balance out the intestines. FRIED SQUID (4/5) - My family ate this fast before I got to take a picture! - The squid was fried nicely and had big pieces. It was yummy to dip it in the sweet and sauce from the fried pork intestines. I also liked how the squid wasn't too chewy. NUOC MAM CHICKEN WINGS (4/5) - The wings were big! I wasn't expecting to see whole chicken wings! You don't really see that at other chicken wing places. - Wings were cooked well in the nuoc mam and had a nice caramelized color. It wasn't too sweet or salty, which was nice. Overall, Lau Hai San is a good place for Vietnamese hot pot! However, I still prefer other places, like shabu. After eating here a few times with my family, we feel like the portions here are bit small. We have to order 3-4 appetizers in order to feel full when the hot pot should be the main course. I think the size of the pot is great for 2-3ppl.

Hot pot is perfect for rainy days! We got the Thai spicy hot pot (m) for two people. There were plenty of food to shade! The soup is extremely flavorful and bold. The pricing is amazon for the amount of food you get. We also go the sugarcane juice, it was really refreshing. The service was great, they were attentive and helpful. Their menu is extensive! I was getting indecisive looking at all the options. This is a hole in the wall type or restaurant located in this small plaza, the food is amazing.

I really enjoyed this place. My cousins and I were craving Vietnamese hot pot and this place literally felt so wholesome! We ordered the large hot pot with catfish and it was perfect for 6 of us. It came with veggies and rice noodles. I believe we also ordered two sides of beef just for some extra protein. Everything was great here, the taste of the broth was delicious! I believe it was the Tom Yum. Service was super nice and attentive! The bathroom is a plus, I appreciate a clean bathroom.. it even had a bidet! Lol

My favorite Vietnamese hotpot comfort food. This place has been here for years and it never disappoints. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. Parking can get a little crowded so try to come on a non busy day. I've seen this place get busy at dinner time but their service is usually really fast and nice. The place is medium size and has a decent amount of seating. I just found out there's a bigger room for party of 12+ but not sure if they closed it off since covid. We ordered the small Lau Hai San hotpot (Spicy Seafood Thai hotpot) and take out the squid and get more fish balls. Trust me it's delicious!And we order their signature dish Banh Khot. All the food is tasty and I'm always full after eating even for a small and we take home left overs. I would recommend anyone to come here!

What an amazing hole in the wall restaurant!! It's actually quite large but tucked in a small plaza. There's plenty of parking. We got a large hot pot with the tomyum soup base for three people and thought it was plenty of food. I actually liked the soup base + the rice noodles the most. The meat was pretty fresh and they gave quite a bit. The waiter came over and taught us how to eat the noodles (don't throw them into the pot but rather just pour hot soup over it). It was truly a great experience to catch up with friends and take our time cooking delicious food. Can't wait to go back and get other soup bases.

If you love hotpot, come to this place! The menu can get overwhelming though because there are so many options! It's a small place but they open late. We had the Tom yum broth and we loved it. Service was fast. Would come back if I'm in the SJ area

Service was great, very attentive and quick. The people were very nice. It was very causal and felt very family oriented. The food was good, but not quite my cup of tea. The hot pot we ate had great selection and variety , seafood was good. However I prefer my soup to be more salty and sour, not as sweet . My friends all loved it, just not my preference

Experience is meh. Tables too tiny for 4. The table is too low or the seats are too high. The so called seafood hotpot includes precooked stuff? The Thai soup based is good, but the hot pot ingredients are disappointing. Alternatively, if you have the hot pot equipment at home, just buy the Thai Tom Yum soup from an authentic Thai restaurant, and get the better seafood ingredients from a grocery store, you could have a better meal and cheaper meal too! Hot pot needs dipping sauces. They have none. None! However, they can give you fish sauce if you ask for it. Too many hot pot places. What makes this place stands out is the Thai soup based. That's it. Won't be back.

Had a horrible experience here. Our vegetable dish for hot pot consisted of just the stalk of two types of vegetables only. No leaves. It looked like leftover vegetables that should've been tossed away in the garbage. When I asked the owner what happened to the rest of the vegetables, she said the leaves part rotted away so they only have the stalks left to serve us. Why are we having to pay for this kind of low quality, rotted food and rudeness? The owner could've apologized and brought out a different vegetable plate had they cared about customer satisfaction. We didn't even go during busy hours. They had no problem taking our payment at the end of our meal. Would never return or recommend this place to anyone.

This place is one of our local favorites! My partner and I frequent it so often during the winter months that I've lost count. Tucked away in a small plaza, this unassuming spot is truly a hidden gem. Our go-to dish is the Lau Hai San Thailand (#21), which features a sweet and sour tom yum broth served in a unique hot pot bowl. We love that we can add whatever toppings we want to the broth and eat as we go. The dish comes with a variety of seafood and toppings, including fish balls with roe, which are our favorite! It also comes with a side of vegetables that rotates between daisy crown, waterspinach, and cabbage, as well as your choice of noodles (egg noodle or rice noodle), which can be half and half. We typically order a small portion and find that it's plenty for the two of us. The shrimp cupcakes (Banh Khot) are another popular favorite of ours. They always come out crispy and piping hot! Loved eating it wrapped in fresh herbs and dipped in fish sauce. Overall, if you love hotpot, give this Vietnamese-style hotpot place a try and I promise you won't be disappointed!

I've been meaning to try this place for so long and when I finally found myself in the area, I couldn't wait to taste their Thai spicy seafood hot pot. You don't need any other hot pot because this Thai one, #38 on the menu, truly sets itself apart. Plus, if you're afraid of spice, it isn't spicy at all. The flavor is mostly sour with small hints of chili. This soup is perfect with all of the seafood it comes with and you'll want to continue drinking the broth the whole time. We also got the banh khot and banh xeo appetizers and they were both solid. Parking is located in a small lot so you may have to end up on neighborhood streets if it really gets busy. Luckily I think the other stores in the little plaza aren't really busy so it shouldn't be too big of a problem. Cash discount if pay in cash.

Lau Hai San is an ESSJ classic I always love coming here because you know the food is gonna be BOMB. There's lots of parking - and there is also tons of space in the resturant. It's usually always a quick wait (if any) to be seated. The food also comes out very quickly! My boyfriend and I love getting the #21 Thai hot pot soup. It's basically a Tom yum flavor with a bunch of seafood toppings. We also like getting half yellow and half white noodles. We ordered the small which was just enough for 2 people. LHS is a classic and I would recommend anyone to come and try!

Delicious Banh Khot! Just okay hot pot... I came here after hearing about the Michelin Guide recommendation and soup sounded perfect on a rainy day. I ordered a small #56 Lau Thap Cam. It comes with veggies, fish balls, tofu, beef, chicken, squid, noodles, and shrimp. The broth honestly was too plain for me. Not enough flavor and more on the sweet side from the carrots. Most of the ingredients came frozen and the quality of everything was just okay. The Banh Khot was the star of the show! Crispy on the outside, and gooey on the inside. Lots of flavor and packed with green onions + mung bean. They use real shrimp too, not dried. I would come back for this!

If you prefer booths by the windows, come early. It was a cold & rainy day when we visited. Perfect day day for hot pot! We had the Thai Hot & Sour hot pot and the Báhn Khot. I've always wanted to try the Bàhn Khot, they look like mini bites of Bánh xéo. I've been curious to try them since I've spotted them being made fresh at a night market in Socal (I just didn't know what they're called). This entire meal was just delicious and we were only sorry we couldn't put away more food so that we could order and try more items.

So good! I've hyped about this place for several months! Their ban xhot was really good. This Tom yum hot pot was absolutely delicious, it came with a plate of veggies and rice noodles. The rice noodles are really good. The seafood surrounding the hot pot was fresh and yummy! We also tried their three bean iced dessert, it has coconut milk on top. So tasty. Only issue is that it's a bit hard to find parking.

Love love love this place!! Huge variety of dishes, and everything I've had the few times I've been here have been really delicious. The hotpot's are definitely the must gets. +1 to Val, the Thai Spicy Seafood hotpot is delicious, but there were so many enticing options I really don't think you can go wrong here. The shrimp cupcakes are also super popular I saw almost every table get one, they're a fun and fresh appetizer while you wait for the big spectacle. The oysters were also delicious we were basically licking the plate. Service is prompt and attentive and the vibes are super homey comfy and warm. My husband has been here many more times than I have and added that there's typically no wait to get seated.

First time having Vietnamese hot pot and it did not disappointed. I can tell this place is authentic by seeing the customers and the employees. The employees didn't speak English and they were very friendly. They waited til we finish the appetizers and entre first before serving the hot pot because it takes up the whole table. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

Heard about this place through social media and youtube. First, it's a warm and welcoming place that really makes you feel like you're at home eating a nice meal. We tried their famous banh khot, which was super crispy and flavorful from the sauce to dip in. Next, we got the Spicy Thai Hot Pot with a side of rare beef. The broth was a tad sweet, sour, and spicy but still tasty. They recommended we get half white and yellow noodles, however, the yellow noodles were my favorite cause they were chewy and had a nice bite to them after dipping it in for 30 seconds. Other than that, everything was delicious. Would come back to try other broths.

I always see people post this place on social media and finally gave it a try recently! I'm a big hot pot lover so this was a nice change than the typical hot pot/shabu. Tried the banh khot (shrimp cup cakes) and spicy Thai seafood hot pot. One of my favorite things about Vietnamese food is that there's always fresh vegetables on the side! Paired well with the banh khot - yummy fried goodness! This was a good portion for two people. Workers were friendly and attentive - checked in on us to make sure everything was good. Parking's convenient with the lot but I can see it filling up when it gets super busy.

Food: 3/5 While the Banh Knot fell short with oddly chopped green onions, the Thai hot pot steals the show with its authentic flavors and perfectly balanced spices. It's a must-try that elevates the overall dining experience. I wouldn't order the Banh Knot here again but the hot pot flavor is better than any hot pot place I've tried. Service: 2/5 Service varies, with the front staff which I'm guessing was the owner lacking warmth, and a bit rude. My designated server was more kind. Ambiance: 2/5 The restaurant's design may not be its strongest suit, scoring really low on ambiance. The lighting and tables are a bit worn out and old. It's not the most pleasing atmosphere looks wise. Personally if I were to order food here again I'd recommend ordering to go.

Wide tables, fresh air, the banh khot was a tasty appetizer. The thai flavor hotpot was delicious. Service was quick and we got our food early. Lotsa parking. Overall nice ambiance.

I don't know how else to put this, but this has got to be the best hot pot place in the Bay Area !!!!! The food is soo flavorful!!!! The service are always amazing and when you go inside, it feels nice and cozy. Like little Saigon !!! Haha I highly recommend this place to those who loves hot pot !

We got the medium seafood hot pot to share with 3 people. The portion was decently sized, but we were really hungry so we could've opted for a large for only $10 more. No worries if you don't speak Vietnamese - the staff speaks English as well. If you're new to Vietnamese style hot pot, I highly recommend this place for your first time because Lau Hai San sets the bar pretty high.

Has it ever been too hot for hot pot? Well, get your mini fan and napkin ready because the hot pot at Lau Hai San is worth every single sweat. But don't worry too much, there is AC inside the restaurant. Spicy Thai Seafood Hot Pot (Lẩu hải sản Thái Lan): comes with shrimp, scallop, mussel, clam, imitation crab, mushroom, lobster balls, fish ball with roe, noodle and vegetable. The soup is Tom Yum base which is sweet, sour with a spicy kick and so addictive. There are 3 sizes that you can choose from small, medium, and large, and you can always order more "toppings." The scallop and fish balls with roe are my favorites. Fried pork intestine (ruột heo chiên dòn): Pretty interesting appetizer, crispy outside and chewy inside. It pairs well with the sweet and spicy sauce and definitely will taste good with a glass of beer. Lau Hai San is one of most favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the South Bay. Rain or shine, it is my go-to spot for hotpot, especially the spicy seafood hotpot. They also have tons of other delicious dishes from noodles to rice dish. You can see the long menu attached on top of the table. Parking can be tight and it gets really crowded on Friday and during the weekend.

Probably the best Vietnamese hotpot in town! Hands down the best thai Tom yum broth! The broth is everything, I can prob just slurp the broth by itself and be okay. For a large, we split it between 5 people and everyone was full. The hotpot comes with veggie and choice of egg noodle or vermicelli, personally I love the egg noodles with the broth. Aside from hotpot they have other assorted dishes to try. My other fav was the beef with tamarind sauce and the tamarind chicken wings. Everything was flavorful and amazing. The service was good, kinda felt like you're at your aunt's house. They currently still have outdoor seating if you prefer that. Definitely if you haven't tried this spot, you must. It keeps bringing me back for more.

Its been forever since I've had Lau Hai San. For more than one reason, I purposely chose not to come here whenever I'm in need to satisfy my hotpot cravings. Since we were in need of dinner, I decided to suck it up and break my long hiatus since my sibling and mom enjoy LHS. I decided to call and place an order ahead for togo. My purchase consisted of 1 order of Banh Khot [Vietnamese savory shrimp cupcakes] & medium order of Lau Hai San Thai [Spicy Thai Seafood Hot Pot]. I also requested for a few adjustments regarding the items in my hot pot. The entire order was packaged nicely in a sturdy box. This made for easy peasy transportation. My requests were followed as directed and food tasted really really good. Not sure if my long break from this establishment made for even better eats but I genuinely can't recall any previous visits being this tasty. Banh Khot needed to be thrown in the air fryer but that isn't gonna be held against them since this was takeout. 4/5 stars. My only complaint was the small noodle portions and the a good amount of the veggies seemed to be random bits and stray pieces.

Authentic Hot Pot! Came to San Jose for the first time and wanted to try local restaurants. My friends took me here for dinner and it was delicious! Great portion for the price. We got a medium which feeds 3-4 people for under $40. The parking lot is pretty small but theres parking around the neighborhood. This place could get pretty busy at dinner time so I would recommend going when they first open. Overall great experience and would come back!

I really haven't had a bad experience yet. Since the first time I've been here I've gotten the thai lau and added catfish. The soup here is AAAAAAAMAAAAZING. It's hot, tangy, spiced, tastes of catfish and like Tom yum, but better. For those who love a good beer pairing. Have a bowl of soup and swig an ice cold hieneken. The food at this family-owned restaurant will forever hit the spot! At dinnertime, parking could get difficult since it gets quite busy, so if you want to avoid the wait then most of the time you'll be seated immediately for lunch. The staff here are friendly and attentive. My go-to is the Spicy Thai Seafood Hot Pot and I always ask for a side order of fish balls with roe and meat. Their broth is similar to mama noodles but 10x better. Super happy to see they survived the shelter-in-place era!

This restaurant was good, but not great. The hot pot was pretty flavorful with balance of sour and sweet, not too spicy, and loaded with lots of veggies, but only had a few small pieces of fish. I did enjoy the Tamarind Beef hot pot. That was different, super tasty and the meat was super tender. The salt and pepper calamari dish was good, but it was pretty under seasoned. Luckily I had left over tamarind sauce to dip it in. Since tamarind is one of favorite flavors, I had high hopes for the tamarind wings, but unfortunately, the chicken wings were way overcooked and super dry, so even the sauce couldn't help it out :(

Got the ick because there was a sticker still on the tomato that was boiled in our broth... Did they not see it when they were washing the tomatoes? Please see pictures...

EXCELLENT authentic hot pot! Their menu is huge and has so many different options to order from. They also have unique appetizers that other Viet restaurants don't offer like bánh khọt. The hot pot is a huge portion, and you can choose noodles or rice to go with your soup, along with a large plate of vegetables. The facility is also quite clean compared to many stereotypical mom & pop Asian restaurants. The tables are clean, as well are the utensils and plates/bowls. The bathroom is well-kept without paper towels on the floor or mystery puddles. The toilets even have bidets! I will always come back to support this restaurant. I am so happy to see they survived the shelter-in-place era.

I have been to this plaza for years and never knew about this place until a recommendation from a friend. Apparently, Strictly Dumpling has also visited at one point. My family and I tried a medium sized #38 Thai hot pot and an order of banh khot. Everything came out quickly and the food was excellent. The banh khot was non traditional due to the missing characteristic yellow hue of turmeric, but it was still tasty to eat, with the crunchy crust and creamy mung bean filling. The hotpot is pretty solid as well, featuring a variety of toppings at a reasonable price. Pros: Good portions and fast service. Be sure to order half egg noodles and half vermicelli if you get the hotpot so you can try both types of noodles. Cons: Limited parking space. Random dip in the parking lot means lower sedans and cars may get scratched from scraping the road. Learned from personal experience.

Small restaurant in a tiny plaza with great food, don't skip this place! Highly recommend the banh knot and #38 Spicy Thai Hotpot, I'm not sure if it's endless noodles and veggies but we were asked if we wanted seconds. The prices are decent and the broth is very flavorful! I'd definitely come visit again.

I've heard about this place for a while and my boyfriend and I are huge fans of hot pot but we weren't really wowed here. It was pretty busy on a Saturday night and we got seated outside as a party of 4. There are heating lamps and with hot soup, you probably won't get cold. The Tom Yum soup base we got was way too sweet for my liking. The seafood we got was fresh and the mussels and clams were not sandy. The fish balls were good and the veggies were decent. Our favorite appetizer was the banh khot! It was crispy and light and reminded my boyfriend of takoyaki. Overall I took off a star for the soup base which we weren't fans of and another star for the super dirty bathroom. No toilet paper and no toilet seat covers. Just yikes. Other than that, if you're craving Vietnamese/Thai style hotpot then you might like this but I'd suggest going to an AYCE joint and find out what you like.

Tldr: wow, I didn't think a large would fill up 5 people! Great customer service, good food, good company! I thought the plaza was sketchy when I first turned in since it was so dark when you enter. But Lau Hai San's sign is pretty bright & big! I had a group of 5 and we sat indoors in a booth, one friend sitting at the corner on an extra chair. The menu is on the table and through a QR code. Food: Banh Knot: Reminded me of mini banh xeos, a must try or have as an appetizer. It was so crispy and the middle was chewy rice cake with shrimp. Pairing it with the fish sauce and some lettuce, yum! Fish Sauce Chicken Wings: Does not taste like straight up fish sauce. This was so good and very fresh! It was super hot and fried perfectly. The chicken skin was crispy but the inside was soft. The sauce on top was really good too, fish sauce and garlicky taste. Large #56: Taste: YUMM. The broth was sweet and flavorful. At the end of the pot, there was a lot of flavor which was a little strong. Portion: I was so surprised this filled up our whole group, there was leftovers! I was skeptical at first seeing the food on top since it didn't look like too much. It came with veggies (mainly cabbage) on the side, the option of egg or white noodles, and the meat and seafood on top of the pot. It was enough to fill 5 people. The total came out to be around $85, which wasn't bad for a group of 5! I would recommend coming here to try it out!
