A 9-minute walk from Port de la Roche-Bernard on the Vilaine River, this refined inn is set in a quaint, stone-fronted building in the village center. It's 1 km from the edge of Parc Naturel Régional de Brière and 4 km from the N165 national highway. The airy, genteel rooms feature free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Some have sitting areas, antique furnishings and/or claw-foot tubs. A breakfast buffet (surcharge) is served in-room, or in an elegant restaurant that offers a children's menu and a terrace.

L'Auberge Bretonne

"This gastronomic restaurant was taken over by a young couple in 2010 and has a good local reputation. It occupies an old stone house overlooking a small square in the heart of a charming, small town." - Michelin Inspector

A warm welcome awaits you at this charming auberge. Excellent room and service. Breakfast overlooking the inner courtyard was delicious, calm and a great start to the day. We will return.

We were welcomed at this classic auberge by the owner, Audrey. Our room was on the 2nd (top) floor, accessed by a very steep stair or a quick and quiet, modern lift. The room was large with windows overlooking the garden. The huge bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept on, with pillows to match. The room was furnished with a built in wardrobe, an armoire, desk, coffee table and two comfy chairs.||Needless to say dinner was outstanding - innovative food, good portions, well priced wine list and all served with the kind of professionalism that has been lost in so many quality restaurants.||The large bathroom had a separate toilet and bidet off, and a massive bath with shower. We would have like a small shower screen. Be aware, the bath was very deep and took some getting out of.||Breakfast was ordered in advance and was of the very best quality - the bread in particular was outstanding, worthy of a Hollywood handshake!

We stayed overnight at the Auberge which is well located for La Roche Bernard which is a very pretty French town. A decent bar popular with locals is located next to hotel so we made good use of that. The Auberge is very traditional and I had booked a large room that was indeed spacious if somewhat dated. The bed was huge and comfortable, the bathroom adequate with an over bath shower and being at the back of the hotel, beautifully quiet. It could have done with some coffee making facilities and provision of more drinking water as one small bottle was inadequate. I would prefer them to put the price up and include these little extras. The wifi was very poor, in fact we gave up trying to use it. The best asset of the Hotel is the excellent restaurant. We ordered the 38 Euros menu and it was superb. The Amuse Bouche consisted of a small hake morsel with lemon, a large clam with some delicious accompaniment and a small cup of Foie Gras creme brûlée - wonderful. For an entree, we both opted for the Tuna with mint, melon and Timut peppers, it was superb. I followed this with Lamb roast with spices, haricots verts and cherry tomatoes, caviar aubergine and an unctuous lamb jus. My wife opted for the market fish which was John Dory with peach, blackberry coulis and basil sauce. We both agreed that our main courses were superb. The accompanying bread was delicious and we couldn't get to the cheese we were so satisfied. For an upgraded room, the cost was only £117 so we felt it was extremely good value despite the shortcomings but the food was right up there with the best we sampled on our trip through France.

We ended up in this beautiful yachting village on a whim and got so lucky to secure the last available room at this property. The owner was so lovely and the room was perfect for our needs. Nothing fancy but perfectly spacious, clean (and they accepted our dog for a small surcharge), big windows, tv, a powerful stand up fan if needed and comfortable bed and decent bathroom. The location is amazing, free parking in front of the property and we walked down the hill for drinks/dinner on the waterfront. Also rented a little boat the next morning but not before a fabulous breakfast at the property! We “splurged” for the large breakfast which was great value. The cutlery was silver, napkins proper linen and the coffee pots beautiful antiques. The food was fresh and plentiful with the tastiest fresh squeezed orange juice and homemade preserves. Fruit in the salad was all fresh, homemade crepes were delicious and it was all thoughtfully presented. Highly recommend for good value.

We arrived in this little town with a beautiful Port below, we had no hotel booked. We went to the Tourist Office and the lady there telephoned the L’Auberge Bretonne. We were told by lady in Tourist Office and the Auberge had a room to meet our requirements. When we arrived at the hotel a few minutes later we were told by Madame that they had no such room but she would show us what she had available. This woman’s attitude was so appalling that she reduced me to tears and I ran out of there shaking. My husband coaxed me to return (as we had no place else to stay) and so we accepted the room we were shown. We went elsewhere to have a drink to calm my nerves.||The room was large, looked out over the street but was noisy at about 1a.m. when people seemed to gather outside carousing. The bed was really comfortable the bathroom was ultra-modern and plenty of room for all you’d need. Unlike other hotel we stayed in on this trip there was no kettle for tea/coffee. ||The next morning breakfast was good, we’d had to fill in a form the evening before to say what we wanted to eat for breakfast. There was lovely homemade yogurt, juice, fruit, breads etc were all good. Breakfast was €13 per person.||There is apparently an excellent restaurant as part of this Auberge but we thought the prices to be very high so we opted for the rather lovely Sarah B down at the Port.||We are an Irish couple and mostly get welcomed warmly when we say we are Irish. The attitude of the Madame of this Auberge was totally unacceptable, maybe a bad day for her but in hospitality you have to rise above that and there was no apology.

We really enjoyed this hotel in a very characteristic town at the start of Brittany. The welcome was great and the room was excellent. But the highlight is the restaurant with wonderful food and a superb wine list and sommelier, Davide.||||Two minor downsides; a noisy bar next door on some nights of the week and the menu is short. But neither of these impact the 5* rating.

The L'Auberg Bretonne is well positioned at the top of the pretty town of La Roche Bernard. It is an easy walk downhill to the main square and then onto the harbour, although a steep climb back. Parking was not a problem in the road next to the hotel. We visited in August and always found a space. Our room was a superior double and very comfortable with a spacious bathroom. Sadly no shower but a lovely bath. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially with making a dinner reservation. We only had breakfast once during our stay as found it a bit pricey at 13 euros each. You can get coffee and croissant much cheaper at one of the bars in town. Having said that, the hotel breakfast was very delicious with a lot of choices.

Parking could be a problem at this centrally locates Hotel. We were lucky to find a slot right outside the hotel. Manageress Audrey welcome us and showed us to our superior double. The room was spacious and had a luxury bathroom. The minibar was a welcome addition. The beds were comfortable but as it was a warm evening we had the windows open and there was traffic noise all night. For breakfast we decided to have a coffee and croissant in the bar opposite the hotel.
