L'Auberge - Maisons Glenn Anna

"Ste-Anne-d'Auray is known for its sanctuary and pilgrimages, and Pope John Paul II is said to have stopped off at this restaurant in 1996. But it is by no means stuck in the past: the new generation concocts delicious fare, in which premium seafood takes pride of place, as in the half-cooked tuna with a medley of tomatoes and béarnaise sauce." - Michelin Inspector

We had a great 2 night stay and really appreciated the gentle and attentive service by the friendly staff. The room had aircon which was great as there was a mini heatwave. There are lots of other lovely features - rooms have balconies overlooking the carefully tended garden, great showers, sparkly clean and lovely bathrooms. Lots of space in the room. We had the fine dining dinner in the hotel which was great but they also own a bistro down the road which is more reasonably priced and also good quality bistro food. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast and didn’t mind preordering.

L’Auberge Glenn Anna failed our expectations on most levels.|The welcome was not existent, not a smile or small talk, just instructions on how to get to our room , time for dinner / breakfast, general rules about parking and hotel being locked up at night.|The bedroom overlooked the main road, too many furniture , typically dark traditional Breton style which made the room feel even darker, decor needed revisiting.|The worst part was the loose skirting boards which obviously had been left , in the state we found them for a while… months … years. ..with no attempt to repair and make them good. Maintenance was not a priority.|Bedding was came last century, brown blanket, bottom sheet was stretchy synthetic material , not comfortable.|Bed itself was acceptable.|Cupboard/ hanging space was in the same state, broken shelves.|Bathroom also , at first appearance looked ok : seventies/ eighties style, black and red granite marble washbasin with golden taps, |Shower : same style, except that the shower attachment was not properly fixed to the wall and the heavy shower handle was loose..|We reported soon after arrival the state of the room.|Only during dinner, were we informed that we would be upgraded for the second night.|Apologies were nonexistent |We did not enjoyed our 3 courses dinner: fussy service, the smallest amuse bouche was served in a large tray or in a wooden box made to look like a book.|Long and winded service, dining room lacked character, atmosphere.|The upgrade was a pleasant suite, but again we did not appreciate the flocked duvet covet, not exactly very smooth and comfortable.

I only stayed one night but my wife and I really enjoyed L'Auberge .We had a beautiful room at the back of the hotel with a balcony overlooking the garden.Huge bathroom with both tub and separate walk in shower.Tasttefully decorated and spotlessly clean.Very quiet at night.|We had dinner in the restaurant which was a gastronomic experience. 3 course menus but interlaced with 5 amuse touches a sorbet and 3 pre desserts. All served by very professional and friendly staff.|Only slight criticism is their requirement to pre order breakfast which seemed a bit unnecessary.|Altogether an outstanding hotel.

I stayed here for 10 nights with two friends. Two rooms on the ground floor with the wonderful garden in front of us. Excellent breakfast. Friendly and efficient staff. Excellent parking and location in the main street. Lovely area, with the Brittany coast within minutes. My kind of place.

This is a comfortable, well run hotel. Our room was spacious with a balcony and a large comfortable bed. We booked our stay on a half board basis and the highlight of the stay was undoubtedly dinner. Each dish was interesting, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The selection of wines by the glass was excellent, as was the advise of the sommelier. Service was impeccable.

We previously stayed here in 2010 and had a really great experience at the hotel during a 3 night visit. We decided to visit the area again in September 2019 and use the hotel for the first week of our stay in southern Brittany. We were really pleased that the same family were still in charge of the hotel, although some of the younger family members were now more in control. We found that the original head chef and owner from 2010 was now semi retired and running a wine bar a few doors away down the main street and that his daughter and son-in-law were running a very good restaurant about 500 meters further along the high street. This L'Augerge hotel is still excellent value and provides an excellent standard for accommodation and food. On both of our visits to this hotel we chose a luxury room on the ground floor. The service from all the family and staff is certainly still at the very high standard that we experienced in 2010, as is the food in the restaurant. The breakfast is still something to look forward to each morning. Many thanks to everyone at the hotel, we really enjoyed our stay once again. I'm sure we will return again.

Outstanding hotel with professional staff and a gifted Chef. The Hotel is clean, spacious and has some wonderful art deco furniture. Good secure parking, a beautiful mature garden and the restaurant is seriously under rated offering excellent value for money. The cheese board is an adventure 😃
