"This cozy B&B in Boyce, Virginia offers both a French bistro and a much more formal indoor-outdoor dining room setting. It’s a family-run joint, with an epic weekend brunch that includes fluffy omelets, razor-thin crepes, and Virginia-baked ham. If you’re looking to stay the night, rooms are priced reasonably and offer a French countryside vibe." - Tim Ebner

We spent one night here for a quick getaway and it definitely exceeded our expectations! We stayed in Room #3 and found it to be perfect. The room and common areas were immaculate. The meals, both the bistro and in-room breakfast, were delicious. But the highlight of our visit was the staff. Everyone we encountered was so helpful and accommodating and we especially enjoyed chatting with the bar staff in the evening.

This is a remarkably lovely hotel. It has a wonderful view. The staff are wonderful. The rooms are certainly very nice. With stands out above and beyond all other considerations is the restaurant. These people take food, wine, and drinks with Great seriousness. It is reflected in the quality of the food, the service and the remarkably beautiful surroundings. This is a wonderful part of Virginia and this is a wonderful part of it. Next time will be thinking about a several day stay and get the prefix menu, although expensive, would likely be terrific because they take simple dishes and make them truly memorable

Had our daughter's wedding here and the rooms are spacious enough to accommodate for getting ready for a wedding and allowing for gathering. *Maybe some full length mirrors in each room would be a good addition. The food and service were outstanding! Every meal was so delicious. Not a bad thing to say. Special mention for Drew. He was so personable and very attentive to everyone involved in our daughter's special day. The coordination of the wedding and attention to detail and all of our needs was exceptional! Thats how you want to feel about a wedding! Beautiful property!

The property is beautiful, the rooms are decorated so lovely, and it’s such a welcoming place. The restaurant offers a delicious menu and everything is prepared perfectly. The staff…they are incredible! Everyone is so very caring and helpful. We just spent a weekend here for my son’s wedding and it was absolutely magical. I will always remember this Hevenly place and hope to stay again soon.

La Table Provencale is a hidden gem in the Virginia countryside. We have had the opportunity to dine at many Michelin restaurants around the world, and the dinner experience we had this evening is by far the best we have had in the United States. We selected the Chef’s Prix Fixe menu with the wine pairing (there are two choices for each course- we selected both options and swapped plates mid-course). Creative and surprising combinations tickled our taste buds! The locally sourced ingredients amplified the entrees, creating a unique gastronomic experience tied to the Virginia mountain region. The wait staff attending our table timed each course well and the sommelier paired the wines perfectly for each dish. You need to book this location for your next celebration! Do not miss this experience!

I came to this B&B on a Shenandoah Valley fall foliage weekend getaway. The staff were very helpful from the moment I pulled into the parking lot, even helping to carry luggage to my room. ||The grounds were nicely decorated for the fall holiday, and the room was charming. I loved the fireplace and the sitting chairs in front of it. The hardwood floors and yellow palette of the room made for a great French countryside theme.||The bed was probably one of the most comfortable hotel beds that I’ve ever slept in, and the in-room selection of coffees and teas were great. The adjustable AC unit was also most appreciated on an 80-degree October day.||100% would come again in the summer to enjoy the grounds and pool.

Our room was lovely but want downstairs next visit! Location was very nice and our dinner and all breakfasts were delicious. The best croissants anywhere and we just got back from Paris and these were 5 star.

My wife and I stayed at L'auberge for a night for a belated birthday celebration. We had high hopes based on the many positive reviews, but our experience was mildly disappointing. Cons: the room. Ours (Mistral), was very dark--much darker than in online photos. It felt wet, too, I expect due to the AC unit (wall mounted, not central, and tricky to operate). The bed was very creaky. When turned on, the bathroom fan screeched nonstop. There were ugly, fluorescent-green plastic vines wrapped around the chandelier in the center of the room. It felt like nothing had been updated in 30 years---and not in a charming way. The grounds: I'd read nice things about the garden, but it's a relatively small space and situated at the front of the property. Any time you're near the front of the property, you'll hear cars whoosh past. The main building is set back <75 feet from the road. If you're sitting on the front porch, you'll look out at a white fence bordering the property--and hear the cars. So-so: the food. We stayed for dinner (at La Table Provencale, ordering off the a la carte menu) and breakfast the next morning. Her bouillabaisse was just fine. My L'auberge burger was very good--hefty and well-cooked. We also ordered a pizza to share topped with burrata, caramelized onions, and prosciutto, which was tasty. The breakfast was lacking. You have your choice of several egg dishes. Ours were very under-seasoned (add-ons, like the yogurt parfait we ordered, cost in the ballpark of an extra $10). Since the breakfast is complementary and heavy on egg/potato dishes, juice or fruit at no extra cost would've been a nice touch. Pros: the staff. Between dinner drinks and food, about 4 waitstaff checked on us throughout the evening. They were very polite and attentive. The dining area (and the rest of the main house) blend a fresh, contemporary vibe with a historic quality. It was very cozy--but stood in stark contrast to our actual room, which was, frankly, dumpy. Overall, I wouldn't return here, at least not for the price we paid ($300 for a Saturday night stay, booked on Hotels.com). There are other B&Bs in the area that feel more removed/serene, with more comfortable bedrooms, and comparable food and service.

Yelp
A lovely bed and breakfast, far away enough from the city that it feels cozy and bucolic but not so far that you hate the drive. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. I chose to stay in the Chagall in the main inn. It was conveniently located right above the dining and reception area. The decor was cozy and I loved the 4 post bed frame and seating area. There was home-made apple cider, fruits, and pastries for guests at the reception area after check-in. The pastries made by there were delicious, I especially enjoyed the cupcake. The apple cider though, that was to die for mmmm. Very fresh, sweet, and perfectly spiced. I forgot to ask if they had any to purchase, but I definitely would have bought some if they did. The inn had a nice seating area with benches and chairs in the grass. It was a great place to stargaze. We throughly enjoyed breakfast the next morning too. I loved the crabmeat in my quiche and the buttery croissants. Appreciated that they give you the option to dine downstairs or have breakfast delivers to your room. We loved it here. Thank you L'Auberge Provencale for your hospitality!

Yelp
We stayed at L'Auberge last week for a few days; it was our first visit, but it certainly won't be our last. We stayed in the main building in a quaint, cozy room with a fireplace. The B&B provides you with a starter log, and replaces it if used. We had fires going each night, which added such a warm dimension to our stay. We were given menus in the evening to fill out our selection for breakfast. We opted for the omelettes both mornings, which came with a potato block - 2 inches x 2 inches x 2 inches. It was escalloped slices of potato baked with a creamy sauce. It complimented our delicious spinach-mushroom-cheese omelettes. There was also a side of fresh, smoked salmon. However, the star of our breakfast....the basket of freshly baked croissants at our table. They were everything you'd expect out of the French pastry. We returned to the restaurant for dinner. I had the Seared Salmon, which was excellent. It was accompanied with couscous and broccoli florets. L'Auberge is conveniently located between Front Royal and Winchester. It offers great value and a staff which provides 5 star service!

Yelp
Enjoyable stay! We stayed here for a one-night getaway and it was pleasant. The establishment is close to the road, but we didn't notice noise overnight. Our room, the Josephine, was on the second floor so we had to ascend stairs, but it was a large, clean, and comfortable. The shower was extra large with a steam feature, though the water was a tad cooler than I'd like it. Bed was plush and comfy. We did try the restaurant in the evening--French themed of course. But I felt the bistró menu could have been...well...more French. And a few more options on that menu would be nice. I loved the crispy Brussels, salad, and my fish. The breakfast was very good and served with fresh croissants and banana bread. I ordered French toast and ham. Hubby's eggs were good. The main plus from the two meals was the service! Thank you to all servers. I thought the price we paid was fairly reasonable for the size and comfort of the room. In the dead of winter, we couldn't make use of the grounds/garden. I also noticed their pool is not onsite. There was a Tesla charger, which made hubby happy! If we are in the area we will consider returning.

Yelp
What a disappointment. Our room was fair at best. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. The walls are thin and we spent the night Listening to couples in the rooms nextdoor. Odd decor, small TV, dirty floors, and strange bathroom. The food... We ordered food to our room. The meat was way under cooked. Didn't bring our drinks, and was over $110 for 2 burgers and fries. They were kind enough to refund our dinner. Bottom line, this was not a pleasant experience. The day after we were tired from the noise all night, hungry from a terrible dinner, and achy from an uncomfortable bed. Oh...and out $400 for this experience. We won't be back.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at L'Auberge for our anniversary this past June. We went to this inn mainly for the restaurant and it surely lives up to it's reputation . We went to Provence on our honeymoon so we figured it would be quite ideal for an anniversary. From the decor, to the music, and even the service... it was almost like we were back on our honeymoon in the south of France. The restaurant was one of the finest tasting menus that we have tried in the Northern Virginia area. The presentation, along with the flavors and service were quite remarkable. It was an extensive tasting menu with a wide variety of dishes. The sommelier helped us pick out a bottle to enjoy which we really loved. There was even French music playing in the background to add to the romantic experience. We definitely consider this one of the most romantic inn and restaurants that we have been to, and highly suggest it for your next special celebration.

Yelp
Brought my fiancée here for a one-night getaway. The accommodations were very nice - we stayed at the Villa and got the dine and stay package so a fixed-menu dinner was included, as well as breakfast. The food was impeccable! Not usually a fan of fine dining but I really enjoyed everything. The accommodations were also great, comfortable beds with clean rooms. Very well kept. The common areas were clean too with some board games and things about to pass the time.

Yelp
Always know that Lauberge is going to be a great meal. Did the Chefs Tasting tonight and was blown away. Their new chef knocked it out of the park. Food was amazing and so was the service, James, Timmy, Rutlage and Drew make sure we always had we needed and it was a great experience. Usually in for for the bistro/ bar menu but thought the tasting would be a fun change. Every course was fresh flavorful perfect. Highly recommend.

Yelp
My second stay at this gem in the heart of Virginia horse country. Absolutely fantastic, from booking to check in to the beautifully appointed room and the outstanding cuisine. Restaurant wait staff are simply impeccable with excellent recommendations and impressive wine knowledge. The food is so very Provencale - bursting with flavor but never overwhelming and the menu changes according to what is available and in season. This visit I had the scallops and Brussels spouts one evening and a hamburger and French onion soup the second. Absolutely delicious, as was the creme brûlée and the apple crisp. This place spoils me for any other inn or hotel.

Yelp
Another fantastic meal at Auberge. The bacon was fantastic as always. The chips were lovely and crispy. The duck was delicious. The steaks were divine. Thank you Drew & James for a fantastic meal

Yelp
Enjoyable and comfortable stay in the quaint country inn a little over an hour drive from DC. There are certain aspects that remind me of some similar places in France. The staff was helpful getting us settled in. Our room was eclectically decorated -- old prints, Neuveux posters, delf pottery -- kind of mish mosh with no particular theme. Cheap furniture. Comfortable bed. Refrigerator. The breakfast was memorable. Fresh Coffee. Croissants were out of this world delicious. The quiche, eggs, bacon, fresh berries, were all delicious and perfectly prepared. This was a much larger breakfast that we are used to, but it was so good, we ate everything they brought. Our server, Kelly, was outstanding, attentive, and friendly. The room seemed pricey, especially in the off (winter) season. Be sure to scan the QR code in your room for an app about the B&B as well as other restaurants and local attractions. What was frustrating and nothing L'Auberge could do about it, was that most of the local attractions were closed in January or had very limited winter opening hours. That meant we spent a lot of time in our spacious and comfortable room. Tip. Avoid the package deals -- they do not appear to be special at all. 1. The military and first responder rates are higher than the best rate. Even if they took 10 more percent off, there is still no savings. Appears to be lip service and our military deserve better than that. No veterans included either. 2. The Stay and Dine. What a rip off. The added price to the room is more than I saved ($175) for a meal for two. ...and we were limited to a 3-course separate menu, while everyone around us was clearly enjoying the Chef's tasting table.

Yelp
So .... really looking forward to a lovely brunch for wife's birthday. Arrived ,sat outside ignored for 20 minutes. Got up 3 times to get setups and asked to order. Finally got service. Tuna in salad tasted like cat food. Love this place but awful day. Will give another try

Yelp
My wife and I came here for our 10 year anniversary and it was delightful. The rooms were clean and the food was excellent. The bed and breakfast had a French country feel and the staff was top notch. We had breakfast in our room every day, ordered a masseuse and enjoyed a local winery during the day. The main house also has a full restaurant and bar which was great and convenient.

Kelly L.

Yelp
A hidden gem! I was traveling last spring and dined alone at the restaurant. Everyone was kind, a fun staff who made me laugh. Overall an awesome experience- my meal started with a "palate opener" which was delivered by the chef himself, a fun surprise and superb little bite. The food excelled my expectations, I was savoring every bite, scraping the plates! My only regret is that didn't order more.

John E.

Yelp
Wonderful bread and breakfast with excellent and attentive staff. The food was phenomenal including breakfast and dinner. The surrounding area is sparse for activities but we enjoyed a few hikes in the nearby arboretum and state park. Would come back again!

Linda M.

Yelp
If you have the opportunity and you enjoy the old buildings of early America.... GO!!! We decided to stray off the beaten path on our way through Virginia and so happy we did. The home echoes the early days of our state, George Washington sightings, and glimpses into the well built homes of the time. The accommodations were so comfortable, the bed, the linens, the fireplace... exceptional. Emily was so gracious and welcoming (and truly a hard worker) she made us feel as if the next 24 hours were truly going to be spent in a friends home. Be sure to take time to walk around the property and be sure to save room for breakfast, you won't want to miss it.

Shanna E.

Yelp
Really wonderful experience here with the tasting menu, and solid service. In particular, the halibut was in the top 2 creamiest, most flavorful fish I have had the pleasure of eating in recent memory, maybe ever! And the amuse bouche--a cornbread madeleine with truffle and a puffy ball with caviar--were SO delightful. I'm dropping the stars largely because the wine pairing was disappointing. There were a couple really excellent glasses on there--the sparkling rose and the viognier in particular--but a large percentage of the others were like drinking sugar water, really hard to get down. I would definitely come back to try the regular menu though--definitely not a deal-breaker.

Camillia D.

Yelp
I don't write reviews often if ever but this has to be done. My husband and I are locals and until last night have unknowingly driven past for two years. What an unexpected unbelievable surprise. My husband loved the salmon while I had the steak which was perfection - complements to their amazing chef. We also enjoyed the peach galette and mango cheesecake which was delicious. The night had already noted as one of my favorite dates with my husband but little did I know how much better it was about to become. We transitioned to the bar for my husbands nightcap and met Celeste, innkeeper, bartender extraordinaire and maker of the best Old Fashioned my husband said he ever had and that's saying a lot. The conversation was absolutely wonderful, such a delight. We look forward to returning soon. What a phenomenal unexpected surprise. Celeste, if you're reading this, Paul promises next time not to be in shorts :)

Antonia N.

Yelp
We've been to a lot of B&B's in Virginia and this one is by FAR the best. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the food is delicious (dinner and breakfast), fantastic bartender (and they bring drinks to your room) and amazing service. Can't wait to come back!

Sean J.

Yelp
Fantastic hidden gem just over an hour away from DC. Room was quaint and luxurious at the same time. While I did not do the chef tasting As we were looking for something more casual, I had the burger which is not your typical burger. It should be the definition of what upscale restaurants or steaks houses should aspire to. My guest had the steak frites au poirve and it was cooked to perfection. Wine list is out of this world and one of the most extensive I have seen. Staff was extremely knowledgeable not just about the food and alcohol options but what to do in the area. I was given some recommendations about nearby hiking spots, breweries and various other local spots for donuts, old fashioned sodas, shopping and more, all of which that I had time to check out made my trip even better. Don't miss out on this wonderful place and make sure to try their Pigs on a Clothesline app...trust me!

Willy D.

Yelp
Great disconnect between price and quality. Very high price for average quality. I will never go back. Totally disappointed

Cannie T.

Yelp
This place is absolutely devine. The countryside views are absolutely exceptional and really did make me reminiscence of the French Countryside. I came here for a dinner talk and let me just say... I need to come back and try all their other dinner menus. Started with three kinds of fresh bread and the softest butter with some sea salt. Took a dose of potato and leek soup. Ordered their crab cake appetizer with a deep fried green tomato. I've never had a deep fried green tomato but it's acidity was the perfect balance to the crab cake. I got the steak frites and oh my... cooked to perfection with a sauce that really complimented the meat. The fries were so crispy- I wish I knew what kind of oil or fat they fried them in but someone asked for extra fries at the beginning and I wish I did the same! Ended with a blanc fromage dessert that was as beautiful as it tasted. Also tried their take of a s'mores dessert and oh my... that was just as on point as well. Can't wait to come back and try their other creations!

Yelp
I cannot understand how this place has so many glowing reviews. I stayed here for two nights in late June, along with several other family members (we occupied four of the 11 rooms in the Inn). We all agreed -- this is NOT a $400/night value. I stayed two nights in the Chagall room (Room #6). Positive Feedback: I had a service issue in my room (air conditioner that was insanely loud), which was addressed quickly (new window unit that was quiet). At my request, they also deducted $100 from the bill for that first night because we could not sleep due to the A/C noise. Breakfast was quite good, especially the house-cured salmon. Also, our server was a delight; Kelly is exactly the kind of person you'd hope to encounter to start your day. The Inn's management could do some simple things to help her. For example, as a large-ish party we needed refills of ice water and coffee many times. The server only had one pitcher/carafe for refills for all diners (outside of our party included). If she could have brought us our own carafe of hot coffee and pitcher of ice water, that would have been great (and easier on her). There is a nice mini-fridge in each room and two bottles of water per day are provided gratis. The water was Kirkland brand, which I do not care about but for $400/night ... you get my drift. We dined in the restaurant for dinner one evening. The food was quite good but the service was not attentive. For example, some of the food was lukewarm and servers were not readily available to address requests. We were a party of 14, so a dedicated server would have been helpful. Areas for Improvement: For $400/night, I'd expect someone to inspect each room before a new guest arrives. This is where the air conditioning issue should have been noticed & addressed ahead of time. As noted, there are only 11 rooms on the main property so ensuring that the major components of a room (A/C, TV, plumbing, etc.) are in good working order should be manageable. When I called about the A/C problem, the initial response was (verbatim), "I'm at a loss about what to say here." I understood that they had no other room to move me to. I asked if they had ear plugs. She said no, but asked if she should go buy them for me. (As noted, they replaced the entire unit, which was not mentioned as a possible solution.) When I was ready to check-out, there was no one in the office (which is housed in an odd little ...shed?). I took it on faith that they would bill me appropriately. This seemed strange to me. (I later received my receipt by email & it was correct.) The bathroom amenities were average at best. Their own "brand" of shampoo, etc. Same stuff you'd get at a budget, chain hotel. On the first night, there was a makeup remover wipe, but not on the second night. None of these amenities were refreshed. The bath towels were good but not exactly the type of luxury linens you'd expect for $400/night. This wasn't a horrible stay, but I had higher expectations. I advise saving your money.

Christy D.

Yelp
The chef's tasting menu and wine pairing is phenomenal... the savory and artistically presented chef's selection paired perfectly with amazing over the top wine choices, the service is exceptional, the ambiance leaves you in awe, and the Somalia's knowledge and hospitality was a true life experience! 5 stars for this amazing place!

Sharon B.

Yelp
Amazing new chef! The food was incredible and the experience one of the best in my life! Thank you so very much for the incredible experience!

Bob A.

Yelp
Spectacular family Easter lunch on Saturday. Dined graciously on Moules frites and a lovely small producer champagne. The tuna and rockfish were both wonderful and the service headed by Drew was exceptional. Highly recommend this destination restaurant.

Yelp
My husband and I spent one night at the B&B for our 19th wedding anniversary. It was lovely in every way. We had a very comfortable and clean room and absolutely fabulous meals - dinner and breakfast the morning we left. The staff is warm and friendly, and we spent quite a bit of time talking to Celeste at the bar before our dinner. She is a wonderful host and expects a lot of her staff, which is what makes the B&B so memorable. We enjoyed our visit. I do think it's pricey for the amenities, but judging from the cost of real estate in the area, it's completely understandable. The Inn needs some love and attention - chipping paint, etc. Our room air conditioner couldn't quite keep up with the 90+ degrees outside, but when I requested a room fan, one was delivered in short order.

Rachel T.

Yelp
My fiance and I are restaurant owners in DC and we decided to take a few days away from the city. So happy we escaped here. The pool was relaxing and the pictures don't do it justice. The gardens are beautiful and obviously well cared for. The room was clean and spacious with added benefits like a mini fridge, iron, ice, etc., that you don't always find in boutique hotels. The staff was also so pleasant and accommodating. We worried about going to a place that was too strict or on the opposite end of the spectrum, too lax with their policies in terms of staying safe but the staff did an excellent job in making us feel comfortable. We never felt dictated to in their efforts to keep everyone safe, but it was clear they were following procedures to help reduce the spread. By far the best part about our stay though was the food. I rarely take time to write a review unless an experience is exceptional and the food was what compelled me to take the time to write this review. It is clear the owners' passion is in the kitchen. The combination of textures, colors and flavors was at a level few chefs can accomplish in multiple dishes throughout a menu. It doesn't go unnoticed that the chef's wife and co-owner also has a pedigree in baking (especially noted at breakfast). The food was so exquisite, I would drive the 1+ hour from DC and back just for dinner.

Randall F.

Yelp
Have had several great stays and meals here with my French-descended wife. Beautiful rural setting with well-appointed rooms, relaxing front porch and their own kitchen garden. Great base for western VA.

Jason S.

Yelp
I usually try a place 3 times before leaving a review but I will not be back to this place to give another try so this is what's up. Would be a 1 Star but given the attempt at servicing your community with curb side pick up you get a star for the effort. The flyer we got read "Now serving our Award Winning Cuisine" and so on. We ordered the Ten Piece Chicken w/6 biscuits. 4 cup cakes and a piece of cheese cake. The recite came to just over $56.00 but I guess they felt that an extra fee was needed so it costed $70.00 instead. (Bad business- hidden charges suck!) Before I even found out what we had paid because the wife picked it up I thought the food was a glorified Popeyes due to how greasy it was, but the breading just fell off like the way I make it (I feel like I fail when I make mine). Really wasn't that tasty as I was starving and only ate 1 piece. My wife and son didn't like it either so not just me. We ended up trashing 7 pieces and ordering a pizza instead. This place gives you the impression that they have some high end food and you will get best of the best. I don't feel that way and I think they have failed big time!!! I won't be back. Yuck yuck yuck!!!

Donna J.

Yelp
Food was good, but it took 2 hours and still the dishes weren't hot. There were only a few patrons. The waiter was kinda rude. Never again. Nice setting. Had to go elsewhere afterwards because still hungry. Had to fill up on bread. Waste of time.

Alex S.

Yelp
What an AMAZING stay!!!!!! From the moment we made the reservation, we were treated like royalty! Lillie, who works at the front desk and a little bit of everywhere else as well, is truly a gem! She made every single part of our stay special. From the wine and cheese platter we ordered, and had set up in our room before we arrived, to the cocktails before dinner, to the breakfast in the room! The food is also amazing, shout out to the chefs, who really don't skimp on seasoning and delicious, local items. (Ps, gotta order the local sausage w breakfast!) The grounds are VERY well kept and the rooms were nice, and spacious. We even treated ourselves and got the aroma therapy shower! What a treat! Just an all around amazing experience! We will definitely be back again!

Andrew F.

Yelp
I see some mixed reviews on here but our experience was great and we enjoyed our Saturday night stay and dinner. We stayed in room 4/Pascal and liked the aromatherapy steam room shower, a great amenity for the winter months. The room was spotless and very comfortable - loved the bedding and will probably purchase some for home. Walls, floors a little thin, as they are in most B&Bs but we always travel with a white noise device (Marpac) so didn't hear anything. Dinner was fantastic and reviewed separately. Be prepared for a leisurely paced meal and enjoy wine, great food, and each other's company. We enjoyed meeting the owners and staff, and they all seemed to really enjoy themselves and take pride in their work. We have done the Inn at Little Washington as well, which was a bit more refined, but keep in mind it is 2-3x the price for rooms and dinner. This place makes for a more accessible fine dining and getaway experience into wine country. Thank you Bentley, Kathy, Celeste, and Christian for helping make our stay a memorable one. We will be back. Andrew + Tricia + Siggy

Yelp
My husband and I went there to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. Completely disappointing! We will never return. Toilet clogged on day1 and multiple other times. Too many carpets on the bedroom floor and my husband fell. Breakfast food pastries were not fresh made. Food so so...hamburger was so charred on one side that I hurt my tooth when I took a bite. Impossible to find someone to help you when needed. Over priced and over rated. AC and heat unit in rooms have mold in them. We both got sick. Horrible weekend! I do not recommend this to anyone. Go to a Red Roof Inn...I promise it will be better!! Weirdest part...never met the owner. Housekeeping staff were the only kind, helpful people. What should have been an amazing time was dreadful! Oh and I bought the dozen homemade cookies and they were taken from us...by the way, they weren't that great!

Yelp
Celebrated our anniversary with dinner here last night. We have been coming here for at least 14 years since my husband proposed to me on the grounds, so my review is long overdue. The food and service is always great. Christian, the sommelier, is always a pleasure. Seemed that there was more wait staff than usual last night. They were all attentive. Last night we started with the Ossetra caviar - accompanied with the usual stuff - so good. The foie gras is always delicious. I got a pork dish for my main entree - cooked beautifully and to perfection. My husband got the duck - again, so good. When I booked our reservation online, I mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary. The menu had a personal "happy anniversary" message to us printed in red. I wish I would have taken the menu. There is a newer bar area - more casual atmosphere. They also have 2 charging stations for an electric vehicle, which we used. In the past, We have enjoyed overnight stays and breakfast the next morning. They use the Comphy sheets on their beds - so soft, silky, satiny. thank you Celeste, Alain, Christian and your staff for creating a wonderful restaurant and B&B for us to visit.

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights this week, and dined here each night. Some things have changed in the dining at L'Auberge Provencale since our last visit, and most are not changes I care for. They offer no individually priced appetizers, soups, salads, or entrees. Some restaurants can pull this off, other ones, not so much, but those that can make it work need to provide great quality food, reasonable portion size, and excellent service. They offer a 6 course Chefs Tasting Menu for $105 per person (an additional $68 for wine pairings), a Five Course Menu, one of which is a sorbet, for $88 per person (wine pairing add $52), and a Three Course Menu for $64 per person (wine pairing add $40). Both the 5 & 3 course include Amuse Bouche. This approach gives the diner much less flexibility, and raises the overall cost, as well. For example, if you do not care for dessert (and it is not a strength of this restauramt, in my opinion), you are still locked into that course, and that price in the 3 and 5 course menus. You do not have the option, at least none was offered to me or stated on the menu, to pass on the dessert, or any other course, for less cost..Effectively, you can not order a simple, two course meal of any combination. Wednesday's meal was the Five Course Menu, the number of diners was lite, and the meal was enjoyable, if somewhat expensive - dining time, with after dinner drinks, ran about an hour and a half. The Pear & Parsnip Soup and the Duck Galantine were very nice, though neither portion was remarkable - the Duck consisting of 2 pieces equated to a half a slice of bread. There was a nice array of condiments with the Duck, but condiments are called condiments for a reason. The Maine Scallops were excellent, the accompanying locally foraged mushrooms were especially tasty. The Pan Seared Foie Gras was disappointing, overcooked and floating in a sea of liquid - a waste of good foie gras. Neither portion was beyond ordinary. The sorbet, with a ginger ale foam, probably needs to be re-thought. The Bouillabaisse, while not strictly traditional, was nevertheless rich and flavorful, and loaded with shrimp, lobster, clams, mussels, scallops, and tile fish. Far and away, the nicest portion of the entrees. The Korobuta Pork Belly was fixed perfectly, loaded wioth taste, and extremely rich. The next evening's meal was not nearly as enjoyable as to either the food or the service. Although we were the first to order (we settled on the Three Course Menu)it took over an hour for our entrees to come out of the kitchen. The wait staff (there were only 3) was overwhelmed by the number of diners. Part of the problem is that though they offer full bar service here, there is not a bar in the traditional sense and there is no bartender. The wait staff pours are the wines and fixes any cocktail, resulting in some real delays when crowded, which they were. Folks who ordered the Five Course Menu, all of whom ordered well after us, received their second and third courses, while we were still waiting for our entree. Either the kitchen was overwhelmed as well, or the process is to push early Five Course Menu items in front of the entrees ordered from the Three Course Menu, which I suspect was the case. All in all, not an enjoyable meal, especially at those prices. Our empty appetizer plates remained on the table for over 30 minutes, and later a drink order was completely overlooked. The total time for the 3 course meal was over 2 hours. I was disappointed in the entire evening, to say the least. The wait staff apologized, an after dinener drink was comped, but I have come to expect more from this restaurant. We will probably be slow to return after this experience.

Yelp
The experiences here was wonderful! The food is beyond amazing and worth the drive. We had the cheese platter which was presented beautifully and tasted as we expected. The French onion soup was the best I have ever had, the portion is large and worth every cent. The crab cakes are served on a fried green tomato and once again portion size of three crab cakes was very generous. My father is a crab cake expertise and he said they were probably the best he has had. The burger was tasteful and served with potatoes wedges. EXCELLENT! My goodness, the salad was the taste of Europe. Now the prime rib was very good, we had a little mishap but they handled it properly. Our waitress Vanessa was very informative on the items and suggestions. She made the visit very pleasant. I wish we could have squeezed in dessert but the food was an overwhelming abundance, it was all suburb and we had no room. The freshness in the food will make you go back! Best place around in the Shenandoah Valley.

Yelp
My husband and I spent our 6th anniversary here. We chose L'Auberge Provencal because it was close to home (we didn't want to be too far away from our little ones), yet far enough away to feel like we were 'getting away'. We stayed one night. That day we hiked a popular trail in Front Royal before checking in. We checked in, settled in, and then got ready for dinner. My husband went and hung out the bar as I finished getting ready. My husband was impressed by the sommelier/manager at the bar-- with his expertise and his charisma to put people at ease while sharing his knowledge. My husband was impressed with the extensive alcohol selection at the bar. At dinner, we chose the chef's tasting menu. Each dish was beautiful and delicious. Service was amazing, they were very attentive to when we were done with each course and ready for the next, without ever rushing us. The whole stay felt simultaneously upscale and homey. The scenery was amazing. Breakfast was amazing. We were impressed with the service and attention to detail. Right before check out, we were reading the family biography provided in the informational binder in the hotel room and then it all made made sense. The inn and restaurant was a family affair. A wife, husband, and son trio running the inn, restaurant and bar. My husband had noted that the 'employees' seemed to treat their job and place like it was their cherished home and pride.

Yelp
Thank you to L'Auberge for making our wedding elegant, intimate and special. Our guests were completely charmed by your hospitality and could not stop talking about the food (we knew they'd fall in love with you as we did months ago in our wedding venue search!) You went above and beyond to take care of our needs and made us feel warmly welcomed and valued. I can't wait to come back soon and am honored to have L'Auberge as part of our life story.

Yelp
A true gem tucked away at the entrance of the Shenandoah Valley. When you arrive, check your busy and rushed selves at the door and relax. First place you have to go is the Bistro/Bar area. Drinks & delicious easy food with the funny, knowledgeable bartenders. Then for dinner do the seasonal and locally sourced Chef's Tasting Menu with wine pairings by the nicest and most genuine sommelier, Christian Borel. If you are there for breakfast be sure to have a cup of coffee and a chat with the international Alain Borel. You can't go wrong here. You will want to come back again and again for excellent food, the amazing wine list, and laid back perfection.

Yelp
This is our third visit to this wonderful and romantic B&B within an hour of our hectic life in Northern VA and DC. We love staying in room #14 in the house that is about 2 miles from the larger house & restaurant. It is quiet and peaceful. Alain and his wife sure know how to greet a guest. We had homemade sweets and a large bowl of fruit waiting for us in the room. There were waters in the room as well. Breakfast the following morning is always something to look forward to: homemade granolas, fresh fruit and yogurt. the best part is that Alain cooks incredible food - this time it was an omelette, a side of asparagus, scalloped potatoes and a perfectly cooked tomato. Alain regales us with his stories and is the perfect host. Bernadette, their Burmese Mountain dog, greeted us as well. She is friendly and rules the house! We truly enjoy staying here. Always a treat.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed two nights as part of our 15th anniversary celebration. We loved everything about it! The room was comfortable and well equipped, while maintaining the quaint, French colonial feel my wife likes so much. The staff was friendly and entirely accommodating throughout our stay, dinner at the bistro was delicious, and breakfast was relaxing and delightful. Jamie served breakfast both mornings, and helped make it a pleasant start to the day.

Yelp
Solid place in an amazing historic building. Wine list is incredible. Try the tasting menu. Such an interesting blend of great food with incredible service.

Yelp
The goal was to have a relaxing mini-getaway, not so far away from Washington, DC. Mission accomplished? Not quite. We did relax, truly did. But there were certain aspects of L'Auberge Provencale that urged me to yelp about. First, we booked a room named after Marie Antionette. When we go to the L'Auberge, the woman at check-in said, "Oh, you are in our other building. It has a fireplace." We thought maybe it was a separate building on the estate. But, no. It was a building atleast 2 1/2 miles away. This was a surprise, because the vision was of a warm, cozy B & B with other folks, a roaring fire and nice benefits like hot mulled cider and the like. That wasn't going to happen. The other building was very nice and the room, too, was nice. But it sure didn't meet the vision. I don't think Marie would have appreciated being shunted to suburban Paris. There was tea and cookies, but no fire in the common room. And the fireplace in our room was a fake fire. We had breakfast the first day which was very good but for Christmas Day we were told we'd get a picnic bag, the highlight of which were soggy croissants. Other plusses were the bathtub, the house dog Beatrice. We has Christmas Eve dinner there. It was very posh and the starters were good, like the squash bisque. But the chef's idea of a fine main entree was several pieces of whatever meat it was a dots of different sauces. My duck was dry and uninspired. Dessert was excellent. The L'Auberge called me the next day because I had a different credit card than when I made the reservation. He asked me how the stay was, and I told him my complaint about the room being away from the main auberge. He told me that the website clearly stated that the Marie Antoinette room was in their second property. I looked before I wrote this review, and, frankly, I didn't see it in the place where you'd book a room. I stumbled upon another webpage which did list all the rooms together, with separate columns for the two different buildings. Marie's room was in the Villa column but there's no indication it's another building another 2.5 miles away. C'est dommage. Maybe some of this is harsh, but imagine how Marie would have reacted.

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner here for our anniversary (we did not stay overnight). We ordered off the bistro menu, my wife ordered a half bottle of wine while I ordered red by the glass since I was driving. From a food perspective, it was very good. The menu offered a lot of options, particularly the starters...we literally wanted to order one of everything. We settled on an Aisan pear salad (me) and cauliflower bisque (my wife), and then shared "Bacon on a Clothesline", which was excellent....five pieces of local bacon hanging on a string, brûléed at the table so the bacon fat dripped on to the French baguette below it. Amazing. For the main course, I had the NY Strip with duck fat potatoes which was cooked perfectly and delicious, while my wife had the Florida Snapper, which was fresh and seasoned perfectly. We finished it up by sharing the "chocolate" dessert...an array of chocolate items (gelato, mousse, etc) that was the perfect ending to a delicious meal. The service was only so-so, and why I would only give it two and a half stars. We arrived for an early dinner (6PM), so the place was pretty empty when we got there. They placed us at a table that was right next to a busy walkway and the coat closet, which luckily wasn't in use this time of year but they apparently store wine decanters in there so there was some extra traffic from that. But the main thing is that we felt like an afterthought...when we were seated and handed our menus and water, we sat there for 10 minutes before anyone came over to ask if we'd like a drink, wine, etc.. From that point in the evening, we barely saw our server (s). We listened as the wait staff checked in on other tables and made polite conversation with the other restaurant guests, while we sat there being ignored. That's not to say I need the wait staff in my grill non-stop while I'm trying to eat, but we were basically ignored. No one checked in to ask how everything was or otherwise made any conversation....it literally felt, aside from the delicious food in front of me, like I was ordering at an Applebee's. The food was dropped in front of us, no explanation of anything, no checking in with us to see how it was, etc.. That was disappointing. One other item that was interesting...my wife has a shellfish allergy. When I made the reservation, I told them about the allergy and that while she can be in the same room or at the table, she can't consume it or have any cross-contamination in the kitchen. Generally, most wait staff will acknowledge this when you come in, just to let you know they received the message. There was no mention of it at all, which makes me wonder if the message was even passed on to the kitchen? Or from the kitchen to the wait staff? For those without allergies perhaps this is no big deal, but if you've ever had to rush to an emergency room because a family member was just fed something they can't eat, you can probably understand why this acknowledgement makes you feel a little better. So overall, excellent food, but service could certainly stand some improvement.

Yelp
We stayed at the Inn and had dinner outside on the patio. My biggest complaint is that the inn is about 30 yards off of a busy two lane highway and the traffic noise is loud and inescapable, even in our room. We had the impression this was a quiet country inn but that was not our experience. The website also mentions a pool, but that is several miles offsite which is misleading. Our room was nice but unremarkable, but the AC unit is quite loud, We found ourselves trying to navigate the complicated AC remote in the middle of the night. The food was good, service was mediocre. If you want to eat inside the dining room, this might be a good (quiet) place to eat, but there are much better places to stay in the Virginia countryside.

Yelp
My husband surprised me with a gift certificate to the bed and breakfast a year ago--February 2017. Our jobs both became extremely hectic in 2017, and we realized we were nearing a year and hadn't used the certificate. We were able to book a room for a Saturday night with only a weeks notice, with no problem. The house and grounds are lovely--and such an easy drive from DC! We were greeted by Erika and her cat in the Office. Erika was extremely friendly and made us feel welcome right away. We stayed in room 6 in the main house--it was comfortable and cozy and had a fireplace with a duraflame log ready to be lit! This was such a nice surprise! We ate dinner at the restaurant in the main house. We opted for the 5 course meal. This was truly the best meal I have ever had. Each dish was simply phenomenal from start to finish. Additionally, Miles, Christian, and every member of the staff were so friendly, personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We left with our bellies and hearts very full from this experience. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
My husband and I came here or a birthday getaway - this B&B has been on my list for the past 3 years, so I was super duper excited that I was finally able to get a weekend to come down! The B&B can be hard to miss when you're driving on the Lord Fairfax Hwy as there is a small sign; however, I liked the fact that you can get a view of the Shenandoah mountains and there were some cows on the farm next door - so cute! Jessica, the assistant innkeeper, was quite efficient and extremely nice - there was a cute cat taking a nap in the office (adorable!). The main house also had hot mulled cider (so delicious!) as well as some cookies and cake log - oo la la - this was available or the guests from 3 to 6pm. We booked Suite #9, the 'La Chambre des Amis' (which means 'The Bedroom of My Friends' in French) which was quaint - I thought it would be a bit larger from the pictures I saw online, but even still, it was cute - I especially loved the tiles in the bathroom - very bright and very Country French! The only 'issue' would probably be the curtain by the main door, as always drawing them open/close when you enter/exit your suite can get a little annoying; but, I'm thinking it's because some people want to see throughout the door since there's a garden right in front of us - I'm sure it's lovely during the Spring time. I loved the Lemon Verbana soap and the herbal bath salts that were available. There were two comfy armchairs to relax and do some reading or some work, as well as a small TV with DirectTV. A fireplace with a Duralog was also there, and the mantle was decorated with holiday Nutcrackers, pine cones, and fruit. There seems to be suites located above the main house, but ours was tucked off to the side with a couple of others - there was still peace and privacy, which was nice! We had a dinner reservation at 7:30PM - we were seated by the window, and I loved the decor (huge Christmas ornaments, holiday figurines, etc.). Our server was Christian, and he was just plain AWESOME! We chose the 4-course menu. I had the: Chicken Liver (Pate, Walnut, Toasted Tuille; this was beautiful as it was nice and salty, fragrant, and delicious), Foie Gras (Citurs, Granola, Cranberry Gastrique; literally, the BEST foie gras I've had, EVER!!! I loved the combination of the citrus slices and the perfectly cooked foie gras that melted in my mouth - it was very delicate and delicious!!!), Escolar (Forrest Mushrooms, Bordelaise Sauce; this is a fatty tuna that was delicate and the nice Bordelaise sauce that made it somewhat a light dish; loved the mushrooms!), and PB & C (Liquid Nitrogen Poached, Caramel, Popcorn; I found the popcorn an interesting combination with the dessert!) for dessert. My husband had the: Scallop (Cauliflower, Raison, Cumin Emulsion; the flavors of the sauce was yummy as the scallops were also cooked beautifully), Lobster (Thermidor, Parsnip; this was quite lovely with it being wrapped with a crispy phyllo dough!), Lamb (Chestnut, Parsnip, Onions, Pomegranate; shredded lamb that was like pulled pork - not game-y at all and it was wonderfully-seasoned - yum!), and the Pistachio Souffle with Pistachio Gelato for dessert (nice and airy). There were plenty of amuse-bouches (lemon-mousse-like bars with candied ginger on sticks, this beautiful egg in a cup with sherry with olive madeleines, nice crusty bread with olive oil, a nice thyme-infused methol carbonated drink that was absolutely refreshing and awesome, potato butter (that came in a mini jam jar that was so decadent, creamy, and delicious!), and a slice of lemon cheesecake), which was quite surprising! From the other reviews, I notice that there were many complaints on how 'small' the servings/courses were - I have absolutely no idea what these people are talking about, as both my husband and I left full (and we can eat!)! :P Chef Joseph Watters actually came out himself and greeted us with the culminating dessert - it was a basket with holly berries and pine leaves, with 2 of each: meringue lollipops filled with an apple slice, French lemon macarons, and this blackberry-like jelly. He was SO NICE and we thanked him for an unbelievable meal! This was literally one of the best meals I've had, and it definitely falls in my top dining experiences! For the breakfast, there was a table with house made granola, croissants, fresh fruit salad, yogurt cups, and individual beverages. The set menu was Poached Egg on Creamy Soft Polenta and Grits, Oven Roasted Rosemary Chicken Breast with Demi Glace and a slice of Applewood Smoked Bacon, and a bowl of Apple Crisp with Maple Cream. It was nicely presented, simple, and a good light breakfast to give you fuel for the day. I highly recommend in checking out Chef Watters' creations - I am definitely going to come back here and bring my friends and family for a beautiful dinner experience and to fill ourselves with wonderful wonderful wonderful food! +lovely French menu :D +Chef Joseph Watters

Yelp
Loved this place! My boyfriend took me to L'Auberge Provencale in January and it exceeded my expectations! We stayed in the Chagall Room (#6) and it was lovely! We loved the 4-poster canopy king bed and the nearby fireplace. The inn has charm and class. The service was 5 star! The customer-focused staff was friendly, courteous, and happy to see you. Our meals were wonderful - both works of art, as well as delicious. I highly recommend the Burrata appetizer at dinnertime! The cookies and hot cider in the afternoon were a nice touch. I also received an in-room massage, which was amazing. Their masseuse is highly qualified, with a background in physical therapy. One of the best massages I've ever received. We will definitely return to L'auberge Provencale - highly recommend!

Yelp
Took the family for a one night excursion to the area and was very impressed with L'Auberge Provençale. From the moment I made the reservation directly with the hotel, I knew we made the perfect choice. The office was great at explaining the hotel and restaurant area, the appropriate fees and made me feel welcome when we all arrived just a couple of hours later. We were greeted by a cheerful host who showed us to our room and explained where everything was, including instructions of the amazing steam shower. She even pointed out there were board games in the closet for our 10 year old son. The room itself was exquisite! The bed and bedding were first rate. We haven't had a nights sleep like that in a long , long time. In the morning, we woke up and took a short stroll to meet the cows that were up early in the meadow grazing on their breakfast. We then went inside and enjoyed an amazing French gourmet breakfast as well -- everything made to order. We were pleasantly surprised to have the (husband and wife) owners working the breakfast and they were so pleasant, kind, and made us feel like we were at home. We left the hotel to take advantage of the many sites in the area, but we will be back, next time for dinner and a longer stay.

Yelp
We had a very disappointing experience at the restaurant here last night, mostly because we had such a lovely experience here almost 20 years ago. (And I'm not one to generally leave reviews but since we were so disappointed and I have the time right now I am leaving this review) We came back to celebrate our wedding anniversary and I guess we should have significantly lowered our expectations. It seemed that the right hand didn't know what the left was doing ...for example: we ordered the French bread service for which they brought out our bread plates but never delivered the bread. They just forgot, I guess, so we just never asked. Service was extremely slow, food was mediocre and lukewarm, including my cappuccino. I ordered a glass of wine, recommended by the server (based on my description of what I liked). The $18 glass of wine smelled and tasted bottle sick and when I very nicely explained that I just didn't like it and asked for something else he was actually somewhat rude about it (and, understandably, it could have been a misunderstanding of what he thought I wanted, but when I pay $18 for a glass of wine I want to make sure I enjoy it and I felt that he should have been much more gracious in how he responded to me). The crème brûlée that we ordered for dessert took so long that we cancelled the order and asked for the check (which included the creme brûlée which they immediately apologized for when we pointed it out and, of course, fixed the bill). Most of the servers were friendly and tried to be accommodating (we had about 3 or 4 different servers over the course of the evening). This is a beautiful restaurant with fabulous potential. It's possible that we went on a bad night. As a final note, we were somewhat disappointed with the limited menu options too ...a cheeseburger or waygu beef as a salad add-on option is not the same as a nice filet or tenderloin.
