Iceland Is Getting A Brand-New ‘Cascading Waterfall’ Lagoon

Set on the banks of the Hvítá River in Laugarás in southwest Iceland, this new wellness space is described as the country’s first-ever ‘cascading waterfall’ lagoon and a ‘revolutionary two-story geothermal experience’. Designed by T.ark architects and engineered by Efla, it centres on a dramatic 6.618-metre waterfall and lagoon pools spread over two levels, with the water kept at a toasty 38–40°C. The complex is surrounded by thick Icelandic forests and is envisioned as a magical winter spot to float in the warm water with a drink from the swim-up bar while watching the Northern Lights shimmer overhead. Facilities include two saunas, two swim-up bars and a cold pool, and on-site Ylja Restaurant, headed by renowned Icelandic chef Gísli Matt, will serve seasonal Icelandic produce for up to 80 diners, much of it cooked traditionally over fire. Visitors can choose from three packages: Birki at £40 per person, Lerki at £55 with a plush towel service and a drink from the bar, and Ösp at £93, which includes a two-course meal and a private changing booth, with bookings available from August 15. - Liv Kelly

It was very nice , perfect temperature. Liked very much the walk through waterfall and the view though it’s still under construction, opened only 2 months ago (now 19.dec 2025). Would’ve wanted to see more options in the bar, only alcohol on the menu but betting you could get water off course , would want to see coffee or soda drinks. Staff was nice and the lagoon is very spacious on two floors. Recommend the visit 👌🏼 There is also a restaurant there , we had the lunch menu, got the lamb. It was perfectly cooked but for me I want it spiced , there was none and if you want souce you need to ask specially for it.

We had a great experience at the restaurant and at the lagoon. The food was amazing and the service incredible. We had the five course menu, which it’s really abundant. The chef Gisli Matt has again prepared great recipes with mostly local ingredients as much as possible. I would recommend to go to the lagoon in the late afternoon to enjoy the sunset time. The views and the colours were magical.

Brand new lagoon in Iceland, just about 1 hour drive from Reykjavik, it’s located on the “golden circle” road. Beautiful and relaxing geothermal spot! Surrounded by nature! Lagoon feels calm and uncrowded, which makes perfect time for enjoying the scenery. They have also 2 saunas, hot tub, 2 bars un cold pool which are available all the time. Changing rooms are equipped with everything you need. They also have restaurant on the site, I didn’t tried it, but will do next time. Will come back definitely 💯

The lagoon itself was fairly average, but combined with the restaurant the experience was excellent. I had slow-cooked cod and a tomato soup, both of which were outstanding. The service was good—you could tell the place is still early in its journey, but the staff were clearly making an effort and succeeded in delivering a pleasant and attentive experience. What me and my fellowship found joyful was that you have the opportunity to split the G in the warm lagoon!

Brand new Lagoon, opened October 15. 2025. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. The food was good and service friendly. Loved the cold pot. Similar problem here as in many other lagoons around Iceland, there is now connection or access to natural cold water, something like that would make the experience more invigorating. This is a recommend visit for a day of relaxation.

Everything was clean and comfortable – nice changing rooms, good showers, towels and a hair dryer available. The view is lovely and the staff were very friendly. Only the water and sauna could be warmer.

Hasn’t fully opened yet but we went for a coffee as Ylja, the restaurant, has opened. The place is stunning and every detail a gem for the eye. The setting is beautiful and we are very excited to visit the lagoon when it opens.

Went there today with an Icelandia tour, booked through an IcelandAir package. I think the place has been open less than a week. Check in was pretty smooth, the facilities were clean and well maintained (it’s brand new, so it should be!), and the lagoon itself was lovely. Not super crowded, clean and toasty warm. The sauna and plunge pool were nice too. The rhubarb mint drink was great, as was the bar staff. I do think I got charged for two drinks instead of getting my one free, but c’est la vie. The attached restaurant was good, but the service there was a slow. All in all, would definitely recommend.
