Laughing Monk Brewery Will Takeover Faultline Taprooms in Sunnyvale and Scotts Valley | Eater SF

"Taking over the former Faultline Brewing space at 1235 Oakmead Parkway by December 1, the Sunnyvale taproom will fold under the Laughing Monk Brewing banner (with the Faultline brand retired) and largely operate as it did before the acquisition but with an expanded tap list—growing from roughly eight-to-ten beers to about 20—including Laughing Monk standards such as the Holy Ghost pilsner plus four Faultline beers that will remain and be renamed the Laughing Monk Brewing Lakeside Kolsch, Laughing Monk Brewing Redwood Ale, Laughing Monk Brewing Hefe Wizen and Laughing Monk Brewing Black Dragon Stout. The menus will combine into a "super menu," bringing dishes like the roasted portobello sandwich and the bacon turkey sando to Sunnyvale, alongside new experimental items such as an ahi poke tower and a prime rib dip; hours remain the same for now, with expanded hours and grand-opening events to follow." - Paolo Bicchieri

📍 Location & Vibe: Laughing Monk Brewing is located at 1235 Oakmead Pkwy in Sunnyvale. It has a decent atmosphere, especially for watching a game. The space is relatively comfortable and feels lively. Parking can be a bit challenging, it is a small lot so best to plan ahead. 🍽️ Food & Drink: On the positive side, they have a good prime rib deal that they offer seasonally, which is a nice option. The beer selection is also solid. ⏳ Service Issues: The service was a bit slower than anticipated. Even though we were sitting at the bar, it took a while to get our order in and for our food and drinks to arrive. 🗣️ Communication Breakdown: We also put our names down at the front but were never called, which was a little frustrating and seemed to indicate a lack of communication. 🤔 Overall Impression: Laughing Monk Brewing has some good points, including its atmosphere and food specials. While the service was slower and there were communication issues, the overall experience was acceptable. It's a place that's worth a visit, and hopefully the service on a different day would be better.

It’s a spacious place with lots of seating areas. I was there for lunch and didn’t see too many people for its size. About 30 people or so when we were there. The atmosphere was nice and beautiful next to a small pond that’s well maintained. We sat outside so it’s a little cold but they have the portable heater so it’s not too bad. The food was good and the portion was big. Most of us couldn’t finish our food. The price was slightly on the expensive side. Poke bowl or a sandwich is about $23. They have a special Halloween drink for about $15. I ordered a bowl of chowder and a drink and it came out to be about $35 with tips.

Came in a for a late lunch and my visit was all positive. Service was quick and professional. Beer was delicious as well as my choice of food. I liked the atmosphere especially seated in front of the windows facing the ‘garden’. Try the Roasted Cauliflower as roasted enough not to be squishy and it has a very warm spice to it.

Google
Excellent food, great beer, great atmosphere, good service - recommend this as a nice micro brewery-style choice. The sweet potato fries are a must - among the best I have had. Very nice porter on tap. Sat outside beside the pond, really nice place to enjoy food & company. Recommended for sure.

The food here is either hit or miss, but pretty good for a brewery. I liked my flat iron steak but I usually go for the pulled pork sandwich. Their fries are like steakhouse fries, lots of potato in them. My coworker got the brewhouse hamburger, medium rare. The meat was good but the bread was soggy with oil. My other coworker got the lobster pasta, and he thought it was good. I wouldn't recommend the berry spritz, it sounded good but tasted just straight up like ginger. Even though it had mint leaves in it. The service is always good whenever we come here. The staff is always very nice and personable, they make a point to swing by the time to check in but not so often that they're helicoptering you.

Google
It took us a long time to get seated despite the space being pretty empty! They were able to seat our party of 6 without a reservation though at 6pm on a Friday. The beers are good and they have a solid selection of cocktails, but limited mocktail options and no non alcoholic beers. We love the pizza here! So many fun flavors.

Google
The food was delicious but the service was terrible. Servers name was Francisco. Everyone in his section waited at least 15 minutes before being able to order. Got our appetizers and finished them before we even got any beer or water? Forgetful of minor requests such as needing napkins and extra sauce but was so quick to bring us our bill lol.

Jaduwala S.

Google
Great beers, only IPA, lagers and wheat beers on the menu, no stouts and porters. On the costlier side even by happy hour pricing standards. We started at 4 pm and left somewhere around 7 pm, I thought the server forgot to apply the happy hour prices on the beers and food we ordered during the happy hour upto 6 pm. One of us ordered a Moscow mule and there was no alcohol in it, we had to send it back to fix it, it felt a little odd as we upgraded to Tito's instead of standard Smirnoff. All other appetizers aren't as compelling as garlic fries and standard chicken wings. Overall the ambiance is superb, and the outdoor seating is wonderful. It gets full by 5:30-6 which is good for a weekday, no doubt it's a popular joint. I remember the time when I used to visit this place with office buddies almost weekly, it used to be called "Faultline", but it has gone faulty now judging by my few recent experiences.

Yelp
Walter was amazing and super hospitable! He tended to our group of 15 and didn't miss anything! We hope he wins the 1942 bottle!

Yelp
I came here one evening with some friends. I tried the truffle pub curds, salmon burger, soup of the day which was clam chowder and a few drinks. The portion sizes here are big for the price, they have various food and drink options. Good amount of TVs to watch games and feels family friendly. It's a nice spot to hang out and they have a large parking lot too!

Yelp
My friend and I were looking for a brewery in the area and ended up at Laughing Monk Brewing which was a great choice! We split the Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich ($22), which came with house-smoked pulled pork, BBQ sauce, coleslaw, and crispy fried pickle strings. It was really good and definitely worth the stop. The service was great as well, and since it was such a nice day, we sat out on the patio, which made the experience even better. Overall, a great spot with good food, good vibes, and solid brews.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place for a group meal, especially after work in the area, this is a pretty good place. Like all restaurants in the area there are warnings about leaving bags and etc in the car due to theft. I was able to secure a last-minute reservation for a large party and we actually had a couple more people show up then RSVPed and they were quick to add another table for us . Given we got there early at 5 PM, it was very easy, but I did notice that it did get crowded closer to 7 as we were leaving. Our waiter was really attentive, which I appreciated and the food was fine . Two colleagues of mine got the chicken tikka pizza and I would recommend get that somewhere else not here. Everyone enjoyed the burgers that they got and the nachos were great for sharing for appetizers for the groups.

Yelp
I've been to the Laughing Monk Brewing twice in the past six months. Both times was for lunch with a bunch of coworkers. Each visit, there have been very few customers in the large restaurant. They have their own parking lot, so parking in this industrial area is super easy too. Note-they carry Pepsi brand beverages, so that's a bummer, but the food has been solid and service has been good.

Yelp
Food Quality: *** Service: ** Ambiance: *** Value: *** Decent atmosphere especially for a game. They have good food specials on particular days and a nice happy hour. However the serice wasn't the best, despite sitting at the bar it was difficult to get attention to place an order and a long wait for getting drinks. We put names down at the front but never got called within the short window we were quoted. Despite all this the pretzel and drinks were good. It is a decent spot with somewhat hectic parking, I might try it again and hope for better service

Yelp
This was my third or fourth time coming back. Other than the amazing beers and happy hour we received this evening. This exact experience, I've loved the waiters we've gotten tonight. They were very kind and attentive, Marcial and Walter made our experience worthwhile. They definitely have amazing customer service and are exactly how waiters should be. Next visit, I hope to get them as I felt very welcomed and the service I received was very wholesome.

Yelp
First thing: Really good french fries! Nice selection of brews. Mr. M was a little disappointed that he couldn't ask for free samples of the beers he wanted to taste, but I think that $2 for a 3 ounce pour is fair. And it's fun to try all the little American Girl sized glasses of beer. Things we tried: wings, poke tower, turkey club, cheese dip, pulled pork sandwich. All tasty. Our server Niki was handling ALL of the outdoor seating, which was full on a beautiful Sunday. And she handled it like a champ. She was cheerful and efficient, and we were never left wanting. I would not even have realized it, except the host mentioned it to Mr. M when we were offered outdoor seating.

Yelp
There is a parking lot for this location. Came in on a weekday afternoon for lunch. There were quite a few people at the bar but otherwise the restaurant was pretty empty for dining. Our server was very nice and attentive. The west of 101 burger was delicious. I ordered a medium cook but the meat was a little dry. I subbed sweet potato fries for the meal. The flavor was fine but the texture was very mushy. The onion rings were light and crispy, and paired well with the ranch dressing it was served with. The beer can nachos were delicious. We added chicken tinga as a topping and the chicken was super tender. Would definitely come back to try more food options.

Yelp
Used to go here regularly when it was Faultline, even thru the slow COVID times in 2020, and food and service were almost always great. Me and a friend have been getting the Laughing Monk rotating Belgian at Eureka regularly for 2 years now, so decided to go the source. They didn't gave a Belgian style on tap, so we settled for Maibock, which was good. However, the service at the bar was pretty much the worst. One bartender never smiled, almost looked upset that we asked for samples. The other (bar manager likely) seemed equally depressed. When my friend asked for water, it was served almost warm/room temperature. When he asked for ice, she said with an almost equally inexpressive face that they didn't have any. No smile, no apologies. "God's Gift" her neck tattoo said, but I beg to differ. How does a bar not have ice? The only saving grace was the other guy behind the bar -- didn't speak English well, but always smiled and fixed our order when the kitchen made a mistake with our wings. Also, wings were puny and mostly all wings and very few drumettes. The chicken tikka pizza was good, but clearly a misnomer of what chicken tikka is supposed to be -- chicken pieces that have been seared in a tandoor/oven. The only reason I even left a 20% tip was because of the one nice bartender, cuz the other two sure didn't deserve a dime. Regardless, I'm not coming back. Seems like this place is only good for large corporate parties. I'd recommend avoiding the bar completely.

Yelp
Laughing Monk Brewing was such a lovely and surprising experience. It opened in place of Faultline Brewery couple of years ago I think and I was expecting a similar experience but the beer collection, food and service definitely were a notch above the former Gastropub. They have a huge interior space and even the outside seating area is ample and picturesque with a fountain and plenty of geese that makes the ambience very relaxing. We had the Grilled Cauliflower and the Tikka Masala Pizza. The cauliflower was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and a great start to our meal. The Pizza was also tasty, although it tasted more like an Indian spice and chutney inspired Pizza than a Tikka Masala Pizza. Sunnyvale has some legit Indian Pizza places so the bar is definitely set high especially in the South Bay region. That said, it was enjoyable. I also had the Mabrewhay (Calamansi Blonde Ale) and a smoked Old Fashioned. Both drinks were very refreshing on a very hot day. A big shout out to Tony, our server. He was friendly, funny and gave us some great drinks and food recommendations.

Yelp
We had lunch here for the first time and it was an excellent experience. We were seated right away and our drink orders were taken first. We were there during brunch so there were breakfast options as well as regular lunch items. Brunch is on the weekend until 3:00pm. We started off with an order of onions rings. They were crispy and delicious. I'd get them again. For our mains my husband tried the pulled pork sandwich with a side salad and I tried the 14" Robert's classic pizza, which we shared. The food came out quickly. Everything was hot and fresh. My hubby liked his sandwich and we both loved the pizza. We tried the sundae nachos for dessert. This was recommended by our server, Eric. It was so good. I highly recommend it. The inside is really big and they can accommodate large parties as well. They have several big screens playing various baseball games. It's a fun atmosphere. There is also a nice pond out back that looks so peaceful. Our service was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, this place was a big hit and we will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Formerly known as Faultline Brewing, Laughing Monk Brewing pretty much operates the same as it did before. Food and Drinks: * Flat Iron Steak with whiskey peppercorn sauce * Fish n Chips (red snapper) Core Beers available in addition to seasonal offerings

Yelp
What a fun spot! Be sure to get yourself seated by the window views of the river walk. Service was lovely, prices were reasonable and the snacks were bomb! The nachos definitely stole the show, why do pubs do nachos so well? We added pulled pork, but they easily could have stood on their own. The poke tower was also good, just the right about of sesame and we also had the peach, arugula and goat cheese salad. It was good, but not epic.... A little light on the peaches and the goat cheese crumbles should be a little bigger. We will definitely be back. I had a supersized mercy something brew and it was yummy too!

Yelp
We came here for dessert and drinks with a reservation on Saturday night. Ordered the bourbon bread pudding, shrub life cocktail, and old fashioned. We wanted to have our drinks with dessert, but we were done with our dessert by the time our drinks came out (20 minutes later)... couldn't exactly wait for the vanilla ice cream on top to melt. Though quietly disappointed, the staff made things right without us having to say a thing. They were genuinely apologetic and comped our drinks without us asking. That tells me a lot about the service here. I appreciate the effort they put into showing they cared, and their dedication to customer satisfaction. Our dessert and cocktails were all of high quality and super delish! That secret bourbon sauce in the bread pudding was especially buttery and satisfying. The setting outside was lovely too, a beautiful lake in the back with waterbirds and plant life creating a scenic oasis. I enjoyed walking along the bridges and pathways at sunset. But even just taking in the view from inside the brewery and restaurant adds a nice touch to the dining experience at the Laughing Monk.

Yelp
Personally loved this place! It's very spacious despite being a sports bar/restaurant. Love how it overlooks some water so there are tables with nice views. We ordered nachos, cheese curds, and fries. They were all excellent, with the nachos being the standout. I'd definitely pop by here again and maybe try their drinks along with other noms. Our waiter was really nice too :)

Yelp
Fun spot to grab a drink and a bite with friends on a weekend afternoon! I got a gose as there were no sours, my friend got an IPA and another friend got some fries. The fries weren't my favorite as they were a bit mushy in the middle, but the drinks were good! We sat on the back patio and enjoyed the sunny weather!

Yelp
*LOCATION* This brewery is located in an interesting area, seems like it's surrounded by mostly office buildings and warehouses. We actually found this place by accident because we had turned the wrong way after leaving Sports Basement across the street. *WAIT TIME* It was a Friday ~8pm and there was no wait despite the parking lot being full. The restaurant is fairly big inside and has multiple "sections" when you can host parties. *FOOD* -Fish n chips: the fish was very fishy and we didn't like it at all, coleslaw was surprisingly refreshing and good, chips/fries were ok -Pig out pizza: decent amount of toppings but they didn't offer any red pepper flakes or cheese, crust was perfectly soft in the middle and crispy on the outside, hubby said it was the best crust he's ever had LOL *SERVICE* We weren't happy with the service. It took a long time for anyone to even come greet us at our table and an even longer time for them to come back to take our orders. We also had to wave them down at the end to pay. *AMBIENCE* The inside is large and spacious, nicer than a typical brewery you would think of. There was music and various channels playing on the tv's. I like that there are huge windows on the backside of the restaurant that overlooks the water. Overall, it was an ok first experience...I'd probably come back again to try the daily specials (esp the prime rib Fridays)!!

Yelp
Beer Pressure SF-based brewery that merged with Faultine Brewing back in 2023, after being purchased by locally-owned Bedrock Restaurant Group. This is one of two gastropubs for Laughing Monk, with the other being in Scotts Valley, to go along with their brewery/taproom in SF. We enjoyed our visit a few months back to the Scotts Valley location, so we were fairly excited to try this one which is closer to home. The Good: *Reservations via the Yelp app *Huge parking lot *While I wasn't impressed with most of the beers at the Scotts Valley location, this one had some much, much better beers. The Double Hazy IPA (Professor Frizzle) was fantastic! *Onion Rings were worth the extra upcharge as they were crispy and delicious. Same goes for the sweet potato fries, but we wouldn't have minded them to be a touch crispier. *Ordered a Buffalo Mac pizza to-go for my son, and he really enjoyed it. The added truffle oil was a nice touch and gave it a nice umami flavor that rounded it out. *Burger was cooked perfectly medium as requested. The Meh: *Service was passable. Nothing overly friendly, but certainly not surly. They'd *kinda* check on us, but were a little too busy in the back yukking it up with one of the other crew members. *Nashville Fried Chicken sandwich was fried nice and crisp, but the chicken was dry and it had almost zero heat that I could detect. *I don't know if it was just the time we went in (Sun lunch) or what, but the vibe in there wasn't half as nice as the Scotts Valley location. *And speaking of vibe, the décor and furnishings could use a bit of an upgrade as it all looks severely dated. The Ugly: *Beyond the dated décor (see above), this place could just use a good cleaning. We arrived not too long after opening and the place looked like it hadn't been swept in days, and don't get me started on the dust. While most of the employees seemed busy, there were a few that would rather bullshit with each other than do any of that nonsense. How's the saying go? If you got time to lean, you got time to clean? Yeah, I believe that's it. I mean listen, in my defense I'm not the cleanest person in the world, but c'mon bruv... At least make an effort. Unfortunately, a dirty restaurant that customers can actually *see* makes one wonder how clean their kitchen is where customers can't see? Tbf, tho, they did get an 86 on their last county inspection (April '24). Conclusion: Cool spot with a lot of potential, but they need to clean up their act before we come back here again. Try their Scotts Valley location instead.

Yelp
Have come here for multiple team happy hours/dinners. It's easy to book a larger party through the form on their website, sometimes they're a bit delayed in replying, but never miss it, even if it's the day of. Location is wonderful - they have a lake right outside which has adorable ducks, and ample parking. They have great drink options and are always able to make anything you request. Would highly recommend the cauliflower, onion rings, and wings. Many vegetarian and non vegetarian options, so everyone is taken care of well. Service is quick and all our servers and waiters have been very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Food 5/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 4/5 Our first experience here on a Friday night for the prime rib special, it was okay for a medium rare. I personally preferred a rare prime-rib to be juicier. Friendly and fast service, we got our drinks and food in 10 mins, prior to ordering. Drinks are delicious and refreshing. The Beer Can Nachos is huge - perfect to share. Steak was well seasoned and perfectly medium rare. I would be back with friends, coworkers or family to try other dishes.

Yelp
Such a nice brewery with a view. The food can be a bit overpriced. If you're a beer drinker, I would say come and try it. I am not so you can't ask me if the beers are good. Although, I did drink their Hefeweizen, which was light. Their sour beer was pretty sour where it took awhile to finish. They have variety of food, which I thought was cool. On to the food! Appetizers: 1) onion rings. Really crispy and flavorful. 5/5 2) pretzel: this was huge! Loved it paired with the mustard 5/5 3) cheese curds: also yummy, but had to share this because I can't have too much cheese 4/5 4) calamari: big portion and crispy 5/5 Entrees: 1) lasso bowl: this was really good with the vinaigrette. 5/5 2) burgers: my coworkers said it's very moist and flavorful 3) pizza was big portion and tasty 4/5 Dessert: Sundae nachos: what a cool concept. Wish it had more cinnamon 5/5 Shout out to our server, LAN for serving our pretty big party. The guy who kept refilling our water and cleaning up too! Great service and vibez! They have happy hour in the bar area, FYI.

Yelp
One of our go to local spots for a casual dinner and a beer. The food is tasty and the beer selection is good. The service is very friendly and fast. The space is quite large and has different semi isolated seating areas to meet many needs. There's an outdoor space, the bar with plenty of TV's to watch your favorite Bay Area sports teams and a more "formal" dining area with a nice view of the man made lake/ fountain outside. The giant pretzel is one of our favorites. Will be back for Happy Hour.
google avatar

Michael I.

Yelp
Biscuits and gravy were fantastic and servers were great. When I walked into the restaurant I was greeted by the manager and she acted like she could t be bothered, rude and condescending. Wanted to walk out but I knew the food was good and I was hungry. I won't be coming back, there are plenty of restaurants that serve good food without rude management!

Yelp
Laughing Monk Brewery was such a fun surprise--and way better than we expected. I first discovered their beer at a local bottle shop (their kiwi can design totally caught my eye), and was excited to find out they actually have a full brewery and restaurant. The space is massive, with plenty of seating inside and a semi-outdoor area that feels like you're surrounded by nature. It overlooks a small body of water--maybe man-made--but it gives a nice, calming view that's a little tucked away from the TVs and main dining room. Great option if you're looking for something a little more relaxed. The menu goes beyond the usual brewery fare. Of course, they've got the bar classics, but also pastas, steaks, specials--and everything we tried was genuinely delicious. We had nachos, a pizza, lobster linguine (for a Valentine's special), and steak. Every single dish was flavorful and well-executed. Honestly, their food easily holds its own against those well-known "beer and bites" chains you see everywhere--and in some ways, even beats them. On the beer side, their flight options are fantastic, and they give their brews clever, playful names that make the tasting experience even more fun. Service was friendly and attentive, and the whole vibe was laid-back but lively. If you're looking for a casual spot with great food, fun beer, and a cool setting, Laughing Monk is absolutely worth the visit.

Yelp
My husband and I were on the hunt for a brewery with a decent happy hour (or any happy hour, actually...) and Laughing Monk was one of the very few places that came up! This spot used to be Faultline Brewing and there's still remnants of the previous name in the parking lot. The space is HYYUUUUUGE with multiple seating areas and there's even a manmade body of water in the back, which adds kind of a relaxing vibe to the whole place. Happy hour is $2.00 off all appetizers, $7 pints, and $2 off well cocktails. Service at the bar area was fast and friendly, and there were several TVs scattered around everywhere. We ordered onion rings and they were great! There seemed to be many company happy hours occurring simultaneously. Overall super solid place to grab a beer and THANK YOU LAUGHING MONK for having a happy hour!! My one gripe about the place is that it felt very....corporate? and lacking of any unique character, which may be a side effect of the obvious merging with Faultline. Not a huge knock, as we would return for HH again!
google avatar

Brady U.

Yelp
Located in the old Faultline Brewery space which is very spacious. Had a couple of pints of Pils and WCIPA. As always solid beers. I didn't eat here but have had their food at the Scott's Valley location which is solid publicity food. Crazy busy because it is located in a business park.

Yelp
First time at Laughing Monk Brewing. I went on a Monday night with a few friends. We were able to get a table right away. The view of the water is amazing. There was not a lot of parking. We ordered a few beers and the pizza. The pizza wasn't special, but the beers were on point. Service was good. I'd come again. Restrooms are clean.

Yelp
I like to come in for lunch on Thursdays. Edgar always greets me with good energy. My first time at Laughing Monk Edgar gave me great recommendations and was knowledgeable about the menu and beer pairings. Everything was decorated for Halloween. I'll be back.

Yelp
Laughing Monk is what it is which is lots of fun, many great beer choices, huge tables, large parties, pretty good food. Service can be slow with 100s and 100s of people there. Dinner there was good with my company, and lots of fun.

It had been a while since my last visit. It reminded me how Lovely atmosphere! It is and appreciated the warm hospitality!! Beer cheese was so good!

Yelp
Laughing Monk Brewery in Sunnyvale is a true gem! This place just gets it right--the atmosphere is just as fantastic as the beer and food. From the moment you walk in, the ambience is genuinely lively and inviting. The rustic, industrial-chic decor, combined with beautiful natural light and views of the lake (if you get a patio seat!), creates a vibrant energy that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile.
google avatar

Yelp
We came on a thursday night for happy hour! This is definitely one of my favorite happy hours in the bay - $6 pints and $2 off apps. The place was pretty packed after 6, mostly corporate workers. Despite it being a full house, our servers were attentive and checked on us often. Appetizers and all the beers we tried were great. I also like that it's next to a lake so the view is nice looking outside.

Yelp
Stopped in for taco Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised to learn that they have a special that runs most of the day for $2 street tacos. Anticipating that these tacos would be on the smaller side, I ordered four and I'm glad I did. The tacos were even smaller than your standard street tacos so I definitely suggest ordering at least one more than your 'usual' order if you're in the hungrier side. The beef tacos were by far better than the chicken. The chicken itself was dry and lacked any substantial flavor on its own and needed a LOT of help from the like and salsa. If I were to order these again, I'd definitely go with all beef. Not pictured here is the traditional margarita I ordered as well. During the Thursday special, you can get the standard margarita for $7 but lower your expectations because you will be getting a really low quality 'well' tequila with your slash of lime + marg mix. I wouldn't order this again and should have known better than to get a cocktail from a brewery. That's my bad. The ambience itself is LOUD so keep that in mind as well. This place was packed and there was a 20-30 min wait for tables. Since my party size was 2, we got lucky and found some seating in the bar area after waiting few minutes. Also, parking can fill up quickly so try and carpool if possible!

Yelp
We stopped by today for the first time for their happy hours! It looks like they have different deals on different days of the week. We went on a Wednesday and ordered their Parmesan garlic fries, lemon pepper wings, and calamari. My husband also ordered a pint of holy ghost. We were pretty happy with the items that we got. We were also surprised that the bar area were so packed at 5pm already. A lot of people came and tried to get a spot because they have many of their tables reserved.

Yelp
Ambiance: 4 of 5 (by the pond) Service: 3.5 of 5 (standard) Food: 4 of 5 (burger) Price: 3.5 of 5 I just went to Laughing Monk for lunch today with my colleague as we'd like to try something new for lunch. The weather today is perfect for sitting outside, still not chilly to enjoy a draft beer. We plan to come back for team happy hour next time. Highly recommended for friends and team building.

Yelp

Yelp
We've given Laughing Monk Brewery multiple chances, coming here several times with groups of 8 or more, and every visit has been a headache. They refuse to seat parties larger than 8, which is fine if that's the policy, but the attitude from the staff makes it way worse. Even when we try to just sit at the bar area or split up on our own, they act like we're doing something wrong. The worst part is the rude female bartender who claims to be the manager. She's unfriendly, snappy, and honestly seems annoyed to have customers at all. This last visit was the final straw -- when we told her we'd just leave instead of dealing with it again, she literally waved us off and said "goodbye" with a smile. The food is actually very good, but the service ruins the whole experience. Their IPAs are average at best, and with the kind of attitude we've gotten every single time, we're done trying. There are too many good breweries in the Bay Area to waste time at this one.

Yelp
Food and beers are great. Service was slow on a Friday night, not sure if they were understaffed. The place is big with views of a little pond. They have an outdoor area. The food is a little pricey for what you're paying for though, like $3-5 more than expected but then again everything is getting more expensive.

Yelp
Ordered their Gumbo through Foodja and they sent a completely different order (mushroom risotto) that contains cheese and mushroom which I don't eat. Imagine if they sent this to someone that was actually allergic. A heads up or warning would've been nice. Ended up not being able to eat anything at work as it's already a busy place and we don't have time to go out to get food. Maybe eating at the actual restaurant is different but don't ever order anything through any app or catering service as they will just send you something completely different without any warnings at all. UPDATE: Thanks for replying back to the review but FYI I ordered a Gumbo which has meat and seafood. Instead it was replaced with a dish that has completely no meat but also included cheese and mushrooms (which I don't eat btw). I guess that's the most reasonable "substitute"? It doesn't show Vegan on the order so why replace it with a Vegan dish? Also FYI I've had other restaurants email me about an order change so it's definitely possible. This "substitute" was complete opposite of what was ordered but maybe it's just my thinking. oh well

Yelp
I went there for happy hour and their friday prime rib for $25 special. The restaurant was busy and you sit yourself in the bar area for the happy hour special. The vibe was your regular sports bar vibe with tv tuned to sports and one table was loud. I ordered the prime rib and muscat mango cider. The cider was light and refreshing, perfect for a hot day. I can definitely taste the mango and muscat grape flavor. The prime rib, on the other hand, was disappointing. It was kind of tough and overcooked. The horseradish didn't a kick to it. The service was good. The waiter checked on me multiple times. I told him that I needed to leave at a specific time and he really kept that in mind. I was able to leave 5 minutes before the time that I had to leave. I would come back again to try other drinks and appetizers.

Yelp
We ordered 3 sides amongst four people to share. Good spot for just chatting and hanging out. Bavarian pretzel was a favorite which had a crunchy exterior, a doughy and soft interior, and lightly salted. I enjoyed the beer cheese dip but that's cause i'm not a fan of mustards. Calamari rings were plentiful, and looks more plentiful mixed with the fried onions. They were lightly battered and chewy, though also standard calamari. Garlic fries were also pretty standard. Lightly crispy, can't go wrong.

Yelp
There is a show stopping pretzel in the world and it lives here in full suspension and ready to be devoured. I say get a second sweet mustard because you're going to want to re-dip that thing on repeat. The Salmon / Mediterranean bowl is the way to go for those of us who want to stay snatched and I'd say a solid round of red wines and cava to round out the night if beer is not your thing. Our server was awesome! Juan! And the Laughing Monk should be lucky to have him as this was a packed night but he nailed this crazy packed section with ease and grace sans was the best and just as upbeat and fun as this restaurant. We entered laughing and exited laughing knowing all monks would be proud!

Yelp
We came here on a Friday night--which is PRIME RIB NIGHT! Honestly, the beers were great but the prime rib was the star! We were in town for a conference, and there weren't too many great food options in the area. This makes sense as it's mostly a commercial area. We saw this brewery was close and served food so we stopped by. We had a short wait for our table maybe 5-7 minutes. Our waiter, whose name I'm blanking on, was helpful and offered us some samples of the beers on the menu. He was pretty busy though the whole night and when we needed salt he was difficult to flag down--once again no problems with his service, they were just busy. I had their west coast ipa. It was bright and refreshing (for an ipa), but wasn't my favorite west coast. It was a bit hoppy (even for an ipa), but it was bright which sort of made up for the extra hop. It still paired great with the prime rib. The prime rib was a good deal too--I would definitely consider it before getting a pizza or one of their nice salads. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Big and fun place to hang out with a large group. Plenty of parking and beautiful outdoor space. The beers were just alright. Nothing compared to all the crafts in SoCal and especially San Diego. I do like that they had hard liquor, so you can take shots or have a cocktail. For food- we only got their fries, calamari and some desserts. The calamari were meh. Desserts the kids ate it so not sure the taste.

Yelp
Our waiter was so kind and funny we loved having him! We came for the Happy Hour on Friday and wanted the prime rib and once we told him we were excited for that he asked if we were all getting the prime rib (party of 8) to which we all replied yes and he said okay let me get those in for you right away before we run out and then I will come back to take your drink orders. We thought this was so kind of him and such great service. The prime rib was huge and I could not finish it all. We also ordered the onion rings and fries and they were both delicious especially with the dips. I'm not a big fan of beer but this was a great place to try and I liked that they rotate their beers every now and then to get different selection so there's always something new to try. Would come here again!

Yelp
My company had an outing here at the Laughing Monk Brewery. Great place for company outings as this restaurant is huge and can accommodate these types of events. There is plenty of parking available. They occupy the former restaurant, Faultline Brewing Company. They have house music playing. They have outdoor seating as well. Appetizers, food, and drinks were plenty. It looks like the menu is fairly the same for large parties. Salad, dinner rolls, roasted vegetables, bbq chicken, salmon, skirt steak, & marinara pasta. Oh, and I had to try my Yelp friend, Lee D's favorite beer here, Redwood Ale. It's a smooth, robust, amber beer! The service was nice and accommodating. Overall, 3.5 stars. I will be back.

Yelp
First time back here since it's under new ownership (previously faultline) and just as good as it's ever been! My dad and I tried the truffle cheese curds and the gochujang wings. Both were really delicious, definitely could taste the truffle on the cheese curds which was great. The flavor of the gochujang wings were really good but we didn't think they were very spicy. We had to wait about 25 minutes for a table outside so we just sat in the bar while we waited. We tried the tropical sour and it was delicious! Flavors of passionfruit, orange, and guava. 10/10 would order that again! The servers were all very kind. Inside it was a bit loud as there were a couple of large parties, but once we got to our table outside it was much quieter and it's always nice having the pond out back with the ducks roaming around.

Yelp
We had a nice experience on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Bartender was cool. Margaritas were delicious. Food was on point.
