Laurel

"A passionately run cellar restaurant with a vaulted brick ceiling; upstairs is a coffee-cum-book-shop by day, which morphs into a wine bar serving snacks at night. Menus bring together Hungarian and Asian influences, while the wine list focuses on forward-thinking Hungarian winemakers. Desserts are a highlight, and service is smooth and efficient." - Michelin Inspector

This wasn't just dinner, it was an experience. We had the vegan tasting menu and it was phenomenal. Every dish was matched perfectly to local wines. Staff were so lovely and the chef made us some special lamingtons. If you want a special treat, I highly recommend.

Laurel, nestled on the Pest side near the Oktogon metro station, offers a fine dining experience that’s both elegant and comfortable. Before our visit, I requested a pescatarian menu, which was readily accommodated by mixing dishes from their regular and vegetarian options. The wine pairings, recommended by a knowledgeable sommelier, complemented our meals well. The restaurant's emphasis on texture in its dishes was notable, though we personally would have preferred bolder flavors. This preference for more pronounced tastes is simply our own. Throughout our dinner, the service was attentive and thorough, making sure we felt well-cared for.

I had the set lunch menu at Laurel and had a great experience. The prix fixe menu is incredibly affordable compared to similar options in Budapest, and it is worth it. The “snack” course was mostly good, though the walnut cake was a bit sour and bland. However, the sauce that accompanied the sturgeon was incredible – I voraciously spooned every last drop into my mouth. The water buffalo with shaved smoked egg yolks was my favorite dish of the meal, and the veal was so tender I could easily pull apart with a fork. The only downside was the dessert, which I found unpalatable. Overall, Laurel is super worth it and offers an excellent dining experience. RACH Recommended

Beautiful little restaurant. Excellent ambience and a spectacular tasting menu. We did both a wine and non alcoholic pairing and both were amazing. The explanation for each dish and the choice of paring was great - and it was clear how passionate the staff are about this place.

It's a shame i can't give more than 5 stars. This was absolutely top of the class dining in Budapest! The service, the food and the atmosphere was above and beyond! Laurel will be THE reason we're visiting Budapest again! Thanks for a unforgettable evening!

I came here twice, both in 2021 in February then April. Quite frankly both times were the most intimate and amazing dining experiences I’ve experienced. The main restaurant was still closed to in person dining so we ate in the next door flat with a maximum of 6 people. Every single dish was meticulously prepared and beautifully presented. The benefit of flat dining meant we were able to watch the final assembly or even cooking done right in front of us - not something you usually get at a restaurant like this. The overall experience felt more personal and inclusive and less managed. Really have to give credit to the amazing waitstaff for also working through language barriers to deliver top of the line service and explaining dishes in great detail. Their knowledge of the ingredients and wine was truly remarkable. The thoughtfulness of the ingredients, complexity and synthesis of contrasting flavors was absolutely stunning. Absolutely must visit if you can!

I must tell that this was our best restaurant experience ever. Laurel represents the very best of fine dining, with wonderfully accommodating staff, food of the highest quality and great wine choices of course. We enjoyed a splendid 3 hour dinner, we tried both the chef's and the vegan tasting menu, and I can only recommend all couples to do the same. Zsuzsi's desserts oftentimes hitting the peak of flavor combinations that made our brains go mushy with euphoria. The wine pairings were at least as good as Péter's professional, yet light and funny presentations. We can only recommend the place to everyone, an unforgettable experience! Thank you!
