Great visitor center across tge street from the Laurent house. Large reception room to gather, very nice gift shop, and ADA restroom.

Excellent staff and volunteers lead tours for the incomparable Laurent House. The gift shop is fabulous — beautiful jewelry, handsome ties, and many other unique gifts. Even the crosswalk from the Visitors‘ Center to the house is designed in a Wright style!

Please note that this is the location to park and start your tour of the frank Lloyd Wright Laurent House. There is a small gift shop and a few displays on the first floor, plus public restrooms. The folks there are great to talk with and have a bevy of knowledge, so spending a few extra minutes there is well worth the while! The parking lot is roped off during closed hours, so be sure to move your vehicle before they close.

Yelp
The Laurent House is such a beautiful story of love, determination, dedication and perseverance. Really enjoyed the personal biographical information about the Laurents that bring this modest, yet gorgeous Frank Lloyd Wright home to life. The Foundation and its docents have done a wonderful job as caretakers of this unique story and historic building. Only recommendation would be a little better coordination of tours, if running on the half hour. It is a small space.

Yelp
So, you're from Rockford and you've never toured the Laurent house? Maybe fix that. This was my first experience with being in the awe of a FLW structure, and it did not disappoint. Because this Yelp page is for the organization that operates the home, I'll focus my review on that. The tour starts at the visitor's center which is directly across the street in a two story home, not related to FLW. Free parking. This tours and visitor's center are operated through docents. (What is a docent you ask? A volunteer who's been trained to host whatever it is they're hosting. Usually Museum type tours from my experience.) The tour groups I believe are limited to 12 per. That said, even having 10 felt a bit much. The space can be claustrophobic, if I'm being honest. Smaller groups would allow for more interaction with the home, for pictures or what have you. We didn't take any as we couldn't avoid having randos in our shots. I found myself feeling very dizzy while on the tour, because the ceilings are only 7ft and the width of the home is far smaller than what most of us are used to. The tour is cost is about $25pp.

Yelp
Very great tour! The volunteers are very knowledgable, passionate and hospitable. 1 hour tour was very interesting and you can take great picture along with a lot of interesting information from tour. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Who knew there was a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Rockford, IL? The Laurent House was the only wheel chair accessible home that FLW designed. From inside to out, this home is a very simple yet clever design. I love the koi pond, the fire place, the dishes, and all the unique features that make this Frank Lloyd Wright house stand out from others. A must see!

Yelp
What a beautiful tour with knowledgeable docents. Designed by Wright, The Laurent House is the only home he ever designed with handicapped accessibility. Upon it's completion in the 50's, this home met approximately 80% of today's ADA standards. Not only is the home worth touring from an architectural standpoint, but the story of the lives of Jean and Kenneth Laurent are equally moving. Anyone wanting proof that the environmental setting of a home can help in terms of human longevity will want to tour this home. Small by today's standards, it speaks to the fact that economy of size can be beautiful. Wright's architectural genius has much to teach us today.
