"The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is one of Iceland’s most visited attractions, and its Lava restaurant has become a big part of making the experience memorable. Set into a lava rock face, the restaurantoffers stellar views over the lagoon and serves international food created by Ingi Þórarinn Friðriksson and his team of experienced chefs in a modern, refined environment. The menu features traditional Icelandic dishes such as arctic char, lobster, and slow-cooked lamb, all updated with modern techniques and ingredients. There are also vegetarian dishes and an array of tasty desserts, set menus at lunchtime, and special menus for kids. The drinks list is impressively broad, with a good selection of cocktails and fine European wines should you want to make an evening of it."
"Lava Restaurant at the Blue Lagoon. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at Lava, a spacious restaurant built into an 800-year-old lava cliff on the west bank of the Blue Lagoon." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team
Beautiful food and overall excellent experience at Lava while visiting the Blue Lagoon. Definitely make a reservation. Lunch was pricey (most things in Iceland are) but the food, presentation, and vibe were all very high quality. We enjoyed their signature cocktail, the arctic char (amazing!), the fish of the day, lamb, and the traditional dessert. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious!

We came here after our spa experience.
Service was quick and the food was amazing.
The bread and butter were phenomenal (as every place with bread and butter in Iceland).
I had the mushroom soup and my husband had the lobster soup.
I got the cod entree which was light and delicious. My husband got the lamb which he also enjoyed.

While staying at The Retreat at the Blue Lagoon, you have to fab restaurant choices for dinner. We opted for Lava since we are not fans of Michelin restaurants.
Lava is enormous, yet has a great vibe, beautiful bar area and incredible views of lava and the lagoon. Food is delicious from the homemade bread and soups to the fresh fish of the day and local meats.
It's an amazing find in a tourist area and highly recommend to visit it and make reservations in advance. Enjoy!

The food was absolutely delicious. My husband had the short ribs and I had the fish of the day. It was very rich but really worth it. Our son is almost 4 and he had a full chicken breast with salad and fries. He loved it. The server was lovely - helpful with allergies. My husband and I shared the Icelandic dessert and it was so yummy. They even brought our son blueberry sorbet because he was allergic to our dessert. All in all - we are really glad we ate here. Definitely worth it. Also - can’t forget the bread with the Icelandic butter which was to die for!

Overpriced, overcooked, overrated, over complicated, and over indulgent.
You are better off if you need food just getting it from the deli area of the lagoon.
This is really just a tourist trap for the view. Overpriced, mediocre food, with decent drinks. I don’t know how this restaurant got such a high rating truthfully, because I think you’d be much better off ordering an Icelandic hot dog in downtown Reykjavik, and enjoy that much more for the price tag.

If there were a 6-star option, I’d choose it. After eating all around Iceland for a month, this was a shining star experience. The ambiance & decor is gorgeous, spacious and romantically inviting. The food was exquisite: from the fresh bread and whipped butter, langoustine soup with toasted seaweed (had a cocoa flavor), wolffish, cod and beef, every member of our party was blown away. Even the children’s menu had a “Lava Chicken” that was a very juicy breast of chicken my scrutinizing child approved of. Flavors were so well-balanced and clean, it left us some wonderful memories to look back on.

We ate here after our day at the Blue Lagoon. The food and drinks were delicious! We ordered the grilled beef and the ribeye and enjoyed it all. For dessert, we have the crème brûlée. Atmosphere was very nice, we got a pretty table by the windows. Staff was friendly.

We had an excellent dinner, better than expected given that this is a tourist focused restaurant. We ordered mushroom soup, chicken liver patte, and fish of the day - all excellent. The skyr dessert was fantastic. It is very expensive but I have no complaints about food or service.
