The 18 Best Restaurants in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico | Eater

"Located in a historic ochre-and-blue storefront, Lavanda Café is a small specialty coffee shop known for its signature drinks infused with lavender flowers. For the purists, a multitude of drip and espresso methods (Chemex, V60, cold brew) are also available, made with single-origin beans that highlight the best of Mexico’s coffee-growing regions, like Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Nayarit. Try the latte lavanda or mareado lavanda, a double espresso shaken with ice, lavender, and sugar cane. Cushion your stomach before all the caffeine with a classic breakfast like eggs Benedict or a BLT sandwich." - Natalia de la Rosa

Pretty cafe, good menus both drinks and food Especially smth with lavender as they named their cafe. When I went there, it was a bit cold. And they gave me blanket to cover me which was so sweet! And they serve bread before we get food, it was really nice and smth like honey, i think it's guava ? Not sure, so so delicious. I wanted to take it with me haha And their drinks are good and the cake as well. Highly recommend!!

If you are looking for the best breakfast in San Miguel de Allende, with a relaxed and fresh atmosphere, this coffeeshop is your best choice! We loved the lavender latte, latte de cáscara, pan francés, pan de plátano, and fresh fruit. They also have plenty of savory options and refreshing lemonades. The service was lovely and even brought us two portions of bread with jam for free! 10/10 recommend! 🤎❤️ Especially on the third floor if you are looking for a rooftop experience.

Google
This cafe is usually bursting out of its seams during the early hours of any day.. but keep them in mind for your 2 pm resting place. Seating is plentiful. Everyone else is exploring San Miguel and you will experience a pleasant afternoon with your coffee and setting your eyes on the showcase featuring the desserts of the day. My favorite is the chocolate ganache but trust me everything is fresh and delicious. Enjoy!

Google
If you want great (and uniquely served) specialty coffee while still enjoying the Mexican charm of San Miguel this is the place to go. One of the two best places for coffee in town but the only one that also highlights the unique style of this area in a modernized and cozy way. Their menu features a wide variety of unique espresso based drinks. I tried the Mareado Lavanda and Affogato. Both were beautifully served, featured unexpected and interesting flavors and textures, and were quite unique. I highly recommend both of them. The pan the elote and lupita cookie were both delicious. The pan especially had a delectable fluffiness and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Service was fast and friendly and their breakfast food looked tasty. I just wish they had some interesting vegan food options and at least one vegan pastry.

Coffee is a bit of an acquired taste, but the food is SUPERB and the view is outstanding :)

Google
Excellent coffee shop roasting and representing specialty coffee beans from all over Mexico. Love the iced cascara latte, most especially! Perfect amount of sweetness. I also had the natural process from Oaxaca as espresso and pourover and enjoyed both -it was very nice and fruity I wish I bought a bag before I left! Didn't get to try their food but when I come back to San Miguel I would definitely try it!

Google
Our early morning craving for a good cup of coffee led us to this gem. We couldn't resist trying their speciality coffee—a lavender-infused latte. The subtle floral notes added a unique touch to the rich and velvety latte, making it a standout choice. Alongside our coffee, we indulged in a vegetarian chilaquiles with red salsa and a Gallito—a scrambled eggs, cheese, and bacon sandwich. The food was undeniably delicious, although the chilaquiles leaned a bit towards the spicier side for our taste. As for the sandwich, while it was slightly dry, a stroke of genius came as I dipped it in the chilaquiles salsa, transforming it into a perfect harmony of flavors. If you plan to visit after 10 am, expect a bit of a queue, as the place is rather small.

Google
Their pour over coffees are really good! Their lavanda coffee is a very interesting pour over with great flavour! I really enjoyed it since it’s the first time I try a pour over with a mix of an aromatic herb. The scent wasn’t overwhelming at all it was actually very nice! Their tea with the coffee flower was also very interesting! First time trying a herbal tea from coffee flower. The Cazuela breakfast was amazing too! Definitely will back whenever I’m back in San Miguel.

Yelp
A great breakfast and wonderful coffee drinks! This was very conveniently located right next to the artisan market! We loved the rooftop deck

Yelp
One of the first spots we ate at in San Miguel de Allende for breakfast and it was one of my favorites! Loved the views from this restaurant! Definitely some picture opportunities on the rooftop. They have indoor and outdoor patio seating. Their vibe is having lavender in a lot of the food and coffees. I opted out of that and choose a cortado. Coffee was so good. Food was really good also and it was a relaxing place to enjoy a beautiful morning in Mexico. The food was fresh and all natural. Service was really good. I absolutely loved the freshly made sweet potato chips on my omelette with fresh basil. The salsa was perfectly spicy and it was an overall great experience and meal! Yum!

Yelp
A wonderful place for breakfast, located next to the fantastic indoor/outdoor Mercado de Artesanias. There's usually a wait on the weekends so put your name in and walk around the crafts market. Service is really friendly and helpful, the coffee is great, the breads and pastries are excellent too. It's not in the center of town (i.e., Jardin Allende) but absolutely worth the short walk.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant. The various caffeinated and non-caffeinated drinks were all very unique and delicious. We had a tea, latte, and an iced drink. All were very good. For food. We had an omelet dish, a chicken sandwich from the lunch section of the menu, and waffles. It was a culinary experience. The wait can be quite long especially during the holiday weeks, and they have no good waiting area, but the artisan market is right there.

Yelp
Highly recommend this cafe for a casual breakfast spot set on 3 levels. Enjoy the day with a Delicious cup of coffee and chilaquiles.

Yelp
Such an awesome brunch!!!! Our wait was 30 minutes and well worth it. We also had a pistachio brownie and some guacamole and chips to start and they were divine.

Yelp
Lavanda Café was wonderful. This was the only place we came to twice during our one-week stay in San Miguel. The service is perfect. They were kind and sublimely attentive without hovering too much and always seated us in a lovely space. This may not have been hard to do because the restaurant has a very quaint, peaceful feel while still being partially open-air. My latte was fantastic, the avocado toast was fantastic, and the chilaquiles were fantastic!! You should definitely make this one of your first breakfast stops while in San Miguel! Love yourself and do this!!!

Yelp
Amazing experience in San Miguel! We had the best breakfast experience of the trip here. The atmosphere was very cute - a small quaint cafe that you wouldn't know spans 3 stories, with each floor having its own vibe. Bottom is a bar/quick to go, 2nd level is busier vibe, and 3rd floor is an elegant rooftop outdoor restaurant. The servers were ready and friendly. Our lattes and breakfast items were amazing! Probably the best latte/drinks in SM. We drank every last sip and got some to go. The day can get warm in SM and this is a great place to find momentary solace. An must-have piece of any SM trip.

Yelp
Wow, what a perfect breakfast! Small little venue with live guitar music gently playing in the background during our morning visit. Good coffee and specialty drinks, which names I cannot remember as of this writing - but the one I really like was red... if that helps.
google avatar

Melody H.

Yelp
Delicious drinks in a laid back, beautiful three story little cafe with rooftop seating. 1. Cereza fria - such a refreshing fizzy ice tea like drink with a subtly sweet flavor. Made with coffee cherry and pineapple confit. So delicious and could drink this forever 2. Latte de Cascara - delicious strong latte made with syrup of cacao bean Also such beautiful monstera plants to marvel at! A great little stop

Yelp
My iced lavanda coffee was great! Subtly sweet and a hint of lavender. Usually I'm not a floral person but this one was perfect since it was not overwhelmingly floral. Their banana bread was delicious and the food was freshly made.
google avatar

Daniela J.

Yelp
Delicious brunch worth the 30 minute wait. We ordered the banana bread, molletes, the egg sandwich and chilaquiles. The molletes and chilaquiles were so good. We'll definitely be back

Mark R.

Yelp
It is one of the best places to get coffee, and the breakfasts are amazing. It is very quaint and the service is friendly. It is always busy so go early!
google avatar

AngieLee G.

Yelp
The address that pulls up for this establishment is no longer there. It has moved look it up on google it will pull up the correct one. We stayed at Selina and walked to it. Maybe about 10 or less. It's perfect to get your steps in. We arrived and we put our name on the list wait time was maybe 20 mins. Next to Lavanda is a small out door artisan market. We were seated on the 3 floor the ladies are attentive. For drink I got the lavender latte drink soo good! My husband got an orange juice. Nice quite vibes relaxing f kinda place. I got the avocado toast, the bowl and husband got chilaquiles so yum! Give it a shot it's worth the wait and walk

Yelp
Excellent coffee shop & eatery in SM - highly recommended! I was able to get seated quickly, and the food was delicious, and coffee was superb. The interior was immaculate & the staff was so friendly.

Yelp
Ok if your in San Miguel, This place is a must !! Just like all the other reviews there is a line. We get there early and we were 4th in line of our group of 5. What a beautiful place. The inside was so beautiful . Decent amount of seating and they keep busy. The food and drink was amazing . Please see pics of everything we got . Eggs Benedict was delicious. Latte's were delicious. The pistachio Cinnamon Bun was actually really good . It wasn't heavy in pistachio just enough. Omg the bread and jam was soooo good. Our service was excellent as well , very attentive and very patient since no Español . Everything about this place was 5 Star all the way. Highly Highly Recommend Enjoy!

Yelp
Best breakfast hands down! Be prepared to wait a bit but it's worth it. I'm so picky with coffee but the latte cascara is amazing. So unique, not sweet but fully satisfying. They sell their coffee beans on site. The cazuela is like a breakfast hot pot delight, delicious. The homemade guava jam with the bread is delightful, the essence of the fruit and not too sweet at all. Great ambiance and great service, highly recommend. We came here twice in four days.

Yelp
Very small cafe, I came late afternoon they were cleaning so I was only able to do take out and was told only can get coffee. I had the lavender latte it was alright, didn't get much of the lavender flavor and the coffee was also not very strong but with a lot of ice.
google avatar

Maggie T.

Yelp
Didn't get the chance to try the food here, but the latte de cascara was quite literally the best coffee I had during my time in Mexico. It had such an incredible chocolate flavor without being very sweet at all. Wish I could've come back here to try even more menu items!
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
I've always loved Lavonda Cafe, and their new location affords much more space and it's also right near the Mercado. The food is fabulous and there are many different spaces to dine in. And of course the lavender latte is extraordinary.
google avatar

Jonathan P.

Yelp
Really nice place! No wait when we went. Our party order a good amount of stuff and everything tasted great. The best was the chilaquiles though! Coffee was awesome as well! We sat in the middle area where it was kinda outside but there seemed to be an awning of sorts so when it started drizzling we just heard it and didn't feel anything. It was pretty cool.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
We tried 2 of the top coffee spots while visiting and both were good, but Lavanda was on a different level. Their food freshness and the Lavender as you drink your coffee just starts your day off right. They sat us on the top floor with some beautiful views. Servers were very attentive, but even if they weren't the food and coffee alone set this place apart from any other.

Bill M.

Yelp
Price and food was very good. Service was very courteous with some English. FYI bacon was not crisp inedible for my taste but the rest of the breakfast was great.
google avatar

Isela L.

Yelp
They recently moved location and are now by the Mercado de artesanías in el callejón. Lavender latte and cascara latte are excellent! Short walk from el centro we took our drinks to go.
google avatar

Ronald C.

Yelp
All around great place for breakfast and lunch ... wonderful service. Great ambience. Dog friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
DO NOT SKIP Lavanta Cafe if you are in San Miguel de Allende. It's not too far off the central area (8 minute walk?) and is in an area with lots of little shops if you are into shopping. We had the mulletes (pictured above) and my wife had an omelet that came with the tastiest shaved sweet potato cracklings for lack of a better word. Lavanta means lavender so it's in a lot of things like the coffee (also pictured above) and the service is on point. The middle floor has an open kitchen so you can see the food working. My mulleta was so full of flavor that my mouth is still tasting it hours later. Everything is fresh and clean.
google avatar

Nilah R.

Yelp
Our meal at Lavanda was not exactly up to expectations. It was good, but lacked a certain extra flavor. The plating was beautiful, the service was friendly, and the ambiance was very pretty. The food was good, but not five stars and the same could be said of the coffee
google avatar

Jillian G.

Yelp
Ecelente servicio y comida! Recomiendo tomar un café de lavanda. Esperaría en la fila para comer aqui un otro vez.
google avatar

Pete V.

Yelp
This place was a lovely breakfast spot - great coffee and ambience! Service was great and we were so happy to encounter this so close to our AirBNB. Thank you Lavanda staff!
google avatar

Sophia S.

Yelp
Highly recommend the latte de cascara. It was so delicious I just wanted to drink three of those. All the food was delicious. Servers were attentive. There was also a live flutist which was pretty cool. Dog friendly.
google avatar

victoria p.

Yelp
Worth the wait, can also order from the takeout window! Also, they make kids hot chocolate with pictures in the foam. They use the best Mexican coffee from around the country. Try the cazuela (breakfast casserole), yummmm!
google avatar

Hector M.

Yelp
Muy buenos desayunos, buen servicio, considero vale la pena la espera; por lo regular siempre están muy ocupados.
google avatar

Nathali P.

Yelp
There is a reason this place has a long line. Every single thing I tried was delicious. The banana bread is to die for. The corn cake... wow! I also ordered the eggs Benedict, yum! Here is what the test of our table ordered (from what I can remember): Cazuela - I will order this if I ever go back French toast - make sure to try it! Green juice - the best Orange juice - made fresh and so good There were other plates ordered, but I forgot the names. Everyone in our party was satisfied. Don't let that line scare you. It's worth the wait!
google avatar

Diane B.

Yelp
Very yummy food and amazing coffee- especially the Lavonda latte!! Loved it iced or hot
google avatar

Benita S.

Yelp
Very Good Cafe. We heard there was always a line, so we were quite happy to be seated instantly on a Saturday at 1:30pm. I had the pouched eggs Benedict. It came with fresh spinach, avocado and crispy bacon served to perfection. There lavender latte was excellent as well as the service. I highly recommend this place if there isn't a long line. On the day we went it was cash only, but I'm not sure if that's always the case.

Yelp
Lots of fresh tasty options excellent roasts and a charming setting and staff. Worth a try even if there's a bit of a wait
google avatar

Yelp
Worth the wait ! We were a party of six and found this place on Yelp. There was a 30 minute wait but it was definitely worth it! Very cute place inside and wonderful attentive servers! We ordered our lattes and cold brews and it's so nice they have alternative non dairy options for the people with lactose sensitivities or who choose not to have dairy in their diet. We ordered our food and they all came out piping hot and fresh ! Everything was so delicious that we forgot to take a picture of it. I guess I gotta go back again and I can't wait till the next time I go back !
google avatar

Natalie r.

Yelp
Excellent. We always visit for breakfast or brunch when in SMA. The coffee and lattes are superb with lots of different drink options and options from coffee regions. The lavanda latte was perfectly balanced with coffee and lavender flavors and not overly sweet like some places make it. They bring fresh bread, butter and honey to your table. The fresh pastries are brought in the same morning from another local bakery- we saw the guy drop them off! It's small so get there when it opens or you're waiting in line for a bit!

Lisa K.

Yelp
Delicious deliciousness. Coffee with lavender was outstanding as were the pastries. Beautiful setting, friendly servers.
google avatar

Blake F.

Yelp
Always great coffee! Really high-end coffee bar and cafe. Always a great experience. The mochas are the best...highly recommend!

Roxanne M.

Yelp
Great service! Their signature cook is perfection in every bite. Green juice and coffee were our morning staples. Don't forget to grab a concha and a banana bread to go

Yelp
Situated in a narrow cobble stone street near the Jardín which is the center of town. We ate here on a Monday and there was a line of couples and we waited no more than 20 minutes. It looked like tourists and regulars frequented here because we saw many tourists and met a couple who lives in San Miguel. It's a small and narrow restaurant thou they have organized the space to iris ample ability and it works. It's clean, the wait staff is friendly and quiet. They only speak to you when your being served or waited on. Clean restaurant and if you are able to request seat at the far end of the restaurant away from the door. The main door is opened out into the street and no ordinance on gas for the cars so you can smell he gas from the cars when they are stopped in front of the restaurant due to traffic. The Street is one way and a major Thoroughfare. Once we got seated, they ask for your drink order and bring you a small bread basket with mantiquila (butter) and Honey ham. We ordered fresh squeezed orange juice and lavender coffee (it's a sprig of dried lavender floating on the surface of your coffee). We ordered bread with mashed beans and cheese called panne aguacate. It was delicious thou the bread was not Too soft and the toasted corners cut the roof of my mouth. Be careful! Subtle Flavors. Omelette I ordered was simple and delicious filled with pesto, cheese and tomatoes. The eggs were served with homemade salsa which was outstanding! I looked over at the other guest next to me and she had an eggs Benedict which looked amazing. The prices were reasonable and food overall was good. Ambiance of the place is beautiful and the chef was thoughtful on presentation of the food.

Yelp
Excellent food, coffee, and service. We visited twice for breakfast during this trip. I highly recommend the BLT and the cascade coffee. We will be back!
google avatar

Patricia T.

Yelp
Simply DELICIOUS! I had a cazuela and thinking to repeat it before leaving SMA. Highly Recommended.
google avatar

Fvvti T.

Yelp
The best possible place to go absolutely loved it , and they have wonderful service 10/10 would recommend

Angie L.

Yelp
Wonderful service. Great setting. I thought the espresso was a little bitter, but overall my lavender latte with homemade almond milk was good.
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
By far one of my favorite spots! At first, I thought the plate was small, but the cazuela held a lot of food because I barely finished mine. I tried the lemonade coffee, which sounded crazy! However, had to go back for another one in the afternoon. It was DELICIOUS

Juliana C.
