One of my favorite spots that I've ever had lunch in Paris. I understand it's a very popular place at Happy Hour too. I found it as it was on Time Out's list of top wine bars in Paris from 2019. We went in Feb 2020 so I'm a little late writing this review.
Back then it was little hole in the wall that you walk through plastic flaps to get in. Once you do, you're hit with the most delicious smells. It was a random Tuesday, around 2pm and it was still packed (mostly locals as well which I love.)
We sat at the bar and I asked the bar tender in my best French for the wine list. (I had been practicing for 7 months in prep for this trip so it wasn't that great.) This large, burley man waved up and down at himself and said in English, "I am the wine list." Thank goodness for him as the whole back wall is full of beer and wine from local, small batch breweries and wineries. Suffice it to say, that day we had marvelous wine.
Before Covid, there were plates of fresh butter on the table and they bought you bread out of the oven. The menu items hang from meat hooks on the ceiling (all pig dishes as the restaurant name suggests. It's small, shared plates. I think we tried a meat and cheese plate, some veggies, a sandwich and tripe. I had never had tripe but it was excellent.
We talk about this place all the time and can't wait to go back. Also, the restauranteur has a few additional places in Paris with idea to other delicacies. Believe there is one that highlights fish and another for beef. From what I hear, they are all worth trying out as well.
