Delicious! Loved the wings, ravioli, the Old Fashioned was superb as was the flourless cake with créma, toffee and nuts, yum! Such a casual, elegant, fun place with great staff.

Very cool spot for a casual or fancy dinner. Food was excellent. We got the Chicken Fried Steak that is only available on Wednesdays and a salad. Definitely recommend coming here for dinner if you’re in the area.

I have dined at the LaVenture restaurant the last couple of years but have visited more often the last few months. The ambiance is one that invites an air of creativity mixed with mystical etherealness. It’s been an artistic haven for me to escape from the ruggedness of West Texas especially when in need of an inspiring environment for my writing. My favorite thing to do has been to go to the back bar and order some appetizers and cocktails while I write and chat with Sarah, the talented bartender. I appreciate the detail she puts into making the drinks, while also offering alternative and creative libations for those of us who have a hard time making a decision. She knows the menu well and offers honest suggestions of food pairings with the drinks. I’ve also been waited on by Ryan and he’s great, and Moony is a wonderful host. The cooks are phenomenal at what they do. My go-tos are the truffle fries with garlic aioli and the brick oven pepperoni pizza. The salads are fresh and colorful - I get the Greek salad. Their soups are seasonal and so far I’ve tried 2 of the soups, carrot with cream and tomato, and both were very delicious and flavorful. My low rating is not of the restaurant but of an experience I had this past weekend with one of their waiters. I had a friend visiting from California and for months I had raved to her about LaVenture. Our server was Doug and when he came to ask us for our drinks, he was immediately rude and sharp to us. We were taken aback and attempted to brush it off thinking he may have had a bad day, which if he did it still does not justify the despicable and disrespectful customer service that followed. He rudely told us that the kitchen closed in 30 minutes, so my friend and I quickly looked at the menu to pick something to be respectful of the time (I live 1.5 hrs away and we did our best to get there way before closing). However, when we turned to give our order, Doug cut us off by turning and walking away, which was odd since we assumed that he’d want to put the order in as quickly as possible due to the kitchen closing. The rest of the night became a series of uncomfortable, impolite, and unprofessional interactions by Doug. My friend and I spoke to him kindly and respectfully, even though that was not returned. My friend shared later that she felt so uncomfortable that she couldn’t finish her meal, and I too shared the same sentiment. Being the optimistic person that she is, she made the best of a horrible situation but to say I’m disappointed would be an understatement. Never have either of us been treated the way Doug treated us and the experience was so disheartening. While I understand that one person does not represent the whole of a company and its employees, it definitely plays a substantial part. I have worked in the customer service industry before and empathize with the challenges one faces both with customers and their industry, which is why I initially empathized with Doug. I hope that management will address Doug and his unprofessionalism.

LaVenture is one of our favorite places. The food, atmosphere and service are wonderful. We highly recommend the lasagna, Bahn mi sliders, seared tuna, shrimp appetizer, New York Strip, and pretty much everything else on the menu. Enjoy!

Google
Rare to get a dining experience where the entire kitchen and serving staff are having fun and enjoying working together. Made my partner's birthday even more fun by giving us two desserts and riling up the restaurant to sing for him. The steak is HUGE and the mushroom ravioli is amazing

Google
The atmosphere only scored low due to the loud atmosphere, there was a art gallery event going on in town and it was hard to carry a conversation. It is a bit on the pricier side for most places. Our server Daniel was decent. He seemed to have a lot of tables but didn't seem flustered or overwhelmed but it definitely did seem to take from the experience. The steak frites was tender and the perfect temperature. The spare ribs were fall of bone, the Caesar salad was properly dressed without being heavy and the romaine crisp. The steak nachos were great starter. The salmon linguini was delicious. Crispy garlic bread and we also had the pepperoni, brick oven pizza. Pizza is about a 12" or medium size from your major pizza chains so it can easily feed 2-3. My husband tried the pinto canyon mule and lost gringo. Both drinks were good, I dipped a bit of each and I prefer the lost gringo because the prickly pear flavor stood out and shined.

Had a great meal here. Sat at the bar and found out food was half price. Wanted a mocktail and the bartender was able to come up with a really great one. I had the flat bread and ravioli with mushrooms that were both excellent. The flourless tort was very different than others I have had (had like a toffee crust) and was delicious.

Google
Food was very tasty. We had salmon and crab cakes, truffle fries and flat bread for a starter. All delicious. Appreciated Dietrich’s warm welcoming and attentive service. We will go back.

Yelp
We ordered at the bar and the service was great on conversation! It's dim lighting so the setting is phenomenal for a couple escaping the busy life. HANDS DOWN the best thing I've ever had. The ramen! It is the by far best thing they have ever had on their menu. The best ramen I've had anywhere. These chefs know what they are doing.

Yelp
service. Is. So. BAD!! We sat at the front bar on a weekend afternoon. The female and male bartender could barely speak English and were apparently never trained on how to refill drinks, bring out complete plates of food, remember items that were requested or how to be polite and friendly. I get it, good service is hard to find, especially in a small town. But this is beyond being horrible based on the price of the food and drinks. You are paying for fine dining food prices but getting fast food service and treatment. We live here and will support other eateries instead of going back to the restaurant at hotel George.

Yelp
Wow. What a horrible experience we had with the front of house at LaVenture. We dropped in for an early dinner, and initially everything was okay. Who we thought was the host told us we could take a seat anywhere, so we headed to the back bar area and took a seat. The guy who told us to sit anywhere now told us we were seated in a reserved table. I said, "okay, where would you like us to sit?" Before anyone could answer the bartender came over and said we couldn't be in the back room at all. She sent us back to the front and now a young girl who apparently was the host seemed apoplectic at best. She said we had to sit in the front room because our son was not of age. We told them he was and offered to show his license, but now it was all just ridiculous. They made some assumptions that were incorrect, but rather than explain ourselves we left and went to Jett's Grill, a lovely spot. The chicken fried steak and pot roast were fantastic, and the staff were lovely. Somebody needs to train the staff better at LaVenture. The place was empty but for two tables.

Yelp
American, nouveau! Chef Carlos is bringing comforting classics like chicken wings and brick oven pizza, along with German schnitzel and Tex Mex faves to the Saint George menu. I had a fresh Cobb Salad with romaine and butter lettuce, cherry tomato, chicken and bacon. The avocado and fresh goat cheese blended in with a whole grain mustard vinaigrette for exceptional flavor on the lighter side of decadent. Grab a Topo with lime for a refreshing placebo buzz. Service with a smile.

Yelp
LaVenture felt like a typical hotel restaurant except for the restaurant bar - not the front, hotel bar, but the bar IN the restaurant. There was a wait for seats there but not the restaurant tables. According to a local source, it's the place to sit and chat with locals and tourists. On this night, we noticed that the couples who came together seemed to only talk to each other. Our server was super friendly, and I think she was excited to have a table during the slow, off-season. She is the reason we gave three stars instead of two because the food was disappointing. We sat at a corner table and were able to enjoy watching everyone including the pizza chef at the wood fired pizza oven. We should have had pizza, but, alas, no gluten free option for me. My hubby had the Wednesday night special of chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and carrots and pepper gravy. He's had lots of chicken fry, and this was pronounced, "okay." Maybe some salt?? I had a smash burger without a bun because. I get that smash burgers are done all the way through, but these were tough and the edges on one side were inedible. The frites were just okay. Oddly, the burger was over salted, and the fries not enough. The wine list was a pleasant surprise, and the pour was generous. Beer was cold with a nice head. We might try again and be sure to sit at the bar and order the wood fired pizza next time.

Carol F.

Yelp
The service was awful. The waitress never checked on us, so we had to track her down. The salmon was good. One steak was overcooked, and one order had to be sent back. It tasted like spoiled meat. They did give us credit for that meal. I was so disappointed. I planned this evening for my daughter's birthday.

Yelp
I broke my diet for this? Meh. Unimpressed. For starters, the waitstaff acted as if they could care less that I was there. Idk, maybe I wasn't bougie enough. LaVenture does appeal to a well travelled niche. Artwork abounds, the bar menu is eclectic and modern, the mixologists know their craft, and the brick oven sits impressively ready to cook pizza wonders. The bar was out of all their beers on tap. On a Friday night? Odd. As for my Italian sausage lasagna, it was lacking in height and flavor. I am accustomed to the traditional multilayered pasta that has slow cooked in the oven with plenty of meat sauce, ricotta and crispy mozzarella that's caramelized on the edges. This attempt was singular in nature, with a basic tomato sauce and loads of mozzarella to disguise the lacking pasta. On the other end of the spectrum, my fellow pilot greatly enjoyed his order of ribs with the side of house made slaw. Though why would a waiter ask at what temp to cook them? That was a first. If you find yourself at the gateway of the Big Bend, exhausted from the numerous art gallery tours, LaVenture is an option. Maybe the pizza is the way to go. I'm not sure the next time I'll be in the area to give it another try.

Yelp
We ate at the hotel restaurant because it was convenient. We were going to take our food up to eat in the room, but a table was quickly cleared for us. We decided to get the wood-fried oven pizza. We ordered the black truffle & mushroom and the seasonal special, which was Brussels sprouts & prosciutto I think. They are quite large and probably enough for two to share. The mushroom pizza was really oily. I preferred the Brussels sprouts one more, even though the leaves were a bit burnt. While the food was average, the service was great. Our waitress made sure our waters were refilled and checked up on us. As for the ambiance, the tv was quite loud. It was THE big game day though, so it can't be helped.

Yelp
LaVenture is inside Hotel St. George in Marfa, Tx. Marfa has many great places for food but if you're looking for something a little more upscale then this is your place. We have had great service each time we've been, both for lunch and dinner. This restaurant was the first place I've ever had a Ranch Water and it is still the best one I've had in all of Texas. So do yourself a favor and stop in when you're in town.

Vermilion G.

Yelp
Food took too long. Then waiter gave bs response: "kitchen is busy." No you guys are not busy, you lazy prick, there's only like 6 parties here. I REALLY hate bullshit. A more constructive response would have been "Sorry, let me go check what's going on". That would have shown that you care about a customer's problems and you're at least doing some due diligence. Other issues: Service is just slow in general, waiters are daydreaming. I paid in cash but they didn't give change. What a flaky and complacent establishment.

Yelp
CHEESEBURGER in PARADIIIIIIIIIISE! But for real, you KNOW it's gonna be good when they ask, "How do you want that burger cooked?" Lovely atmosphere and very clean. Thank you for your hospitality.

Yelp
Yellow salad for $16. Does this look good? You can bet your a** it isn't!Don't worry they don't care, been serving mediocre food & crap service since inception. 1% owner knows you're limited in choice in this overrated town-so deal with it, is the motto.

Yelp
Man, I still love LaVenture restaurant. It's elegance at an inexpensive price. While I love the pizza--and who doesn't--this year the tuna was exceptional and I've never had better jasmine rice. My wife had the ribs, and she doesn't even like them usually--but these were juicy, full of meat (more than I've ever seen on a rib actually), and the cheese grits were, again, the best we've had. It's a five star restaurant at a reasonable price with a beautiful ambiance and impeccable service. I also recommend the ravioli and the shrimp appetizer.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been here foodies. Menu has changed. Was totally looking forward to the Charcuterie Board but it's no longer served. Took away a star. In fact, there's several items that aren't served anymore. The food is good but I miss what I loved. LaVenture has its own pizza oven and can serve up a delicious pizza, which I always love a great pizza. I had that. Husband had ravioli. We had wine. The ravioli was fabulous just wanted a little more on the plate. Service is good, they have a full bar and a great wine list is better.

Yelp
Service: 2 Stars Food: 4 Stars Overall: 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3. 'd recommend eating at Margaret's down the road and saving some money. My wife and I scheduled dinner at LaVenture for Thanksgiving evening as we were staying at the Hotel Saint George. We originally planned to order the $95 Thanksgiving tasting menu, which seemed reasonable given the setting (in an expensive hotel) and the level of excellence the restaurant projected. I'm glad we didn't. We spent half that much ordering a la carte, and even then I felt a bit ripped off. The food was actually quite good. My wife and I each had a pizza, and we shared the wood-fired crab cakes. The service, however, was unfortunately quite poor - and it seemed to be the fault of management, not the waiters actually in the restaurant. The waiters and bartender were all running themselves ragged trying to serve the dining room. Our waiter appeared to be a busser or barback in addition to his job waiting our table. Both my wife and I commented that we felt like this was perhaps his first time ever waiting a table. We watched him run back and forth from the kitchen to the front bar (a different restaurant) with dishes and glasses. In between those trips he'd check on his tables. The tables immediately adjacent to ours were increasingly incredulous at the amount of time it took to place an order, get drinks, receive food, pay their bill, etc. At one point a gentleman next to us walked up to the waiter/busser and asked when the food would arrive. He'd been waiting long enough to make him that desperate. My wife and I felt ripped off, especially because the burnt out waitstaff didn't comp anything or apologize at any point for the situation. But we felt bad for them, as we figured that someone (or multiple people) had called in and left their teammates in a tough spot. That sadness turned to frustration and anger when we left the restaurant and entered the hotel lobby where three or four employees of the front bar/host stand were sitting at one of the high top tables laughing, flirting, and eating pie as their coworkers drowned 20 feet away. We had a much better experience at Margaret's, about 2 blocks away.

Yelp
My son and I came to Marfa for the weekend to see what all the fuss was about. This was one of the only restaurants open at the time. It was pretty good. Cute ambiance, it's inside a hotel. Our server wasn't the most knowledgeable but she was good. I ordered the veggie pizza and it was good, big enough to share. Too bad my son doesn't like veggies like me. Haha I ordered a glass of Prosecco and my son ordered wings and a coke. He liked his too. The carrots on the wings were old and soggy not fresh and crisp. Nothing spectacular but it was good.
google avatar

Brandy G.

Yelp
During my first trip to Marfa I stopped in to the Hotel St George for a happy hour cocktail and loved how cute the space was and the ambience. I knew that the next time I returned to the quant desert town that not only would I need another cocktail but to sit down and enjoy a meal at LaVenture. And this is how during my recent visit to Marfa, I knew this was where I wanted dinner on Saturday night. My friend and I showed up for our 7:30 reservation to be told by the hostess that a table that had made a reservation for a seating prior to us ended up having more guests in their party so there was no table for us. Instead we were seated at the bar (which has a slight discount for dining there). The bartender who took care of us was very friendly and knowledgable. For dinner, I started with the Mesquite Old Fashioned, which was one of the tastiest and most unique old fashions I've ever enjoyed. We then went with the fried quail breast appetizer. I was a bit uncertain of how it would taste but I was blown away by how delicious it was. I'd been a bit hesitant of how all the flavors (polenta croutons, apple carrot slaw, honey sweet and sour) would work but everything complemented each other perfectly. For the main course I went with the 6 oz filet with a side of mashed potatoes and potato galette. I have to say - the combo of the mashed potatoes and potato galette together was one of the best things I've ever tasted. I would go back to LaVenture just for that...the same however couldn't be said for the steak. I ordered it rare, however, the bulk of the steak (except for the very middle) was more towards the medium well side and the outside tasted charred. If not for the overcooked steak and reservation mix-up I would give 5 stars to LaVenture. As it is, I see a return visit in my future.

Yelp
We got to Marfa later than planned and- knowing most of town is closed on Mondays- planned to grab a quick dinner at LaVenture, since we are staying at the HSG. We ended up opting for take out and chose the Penne with vodka sauce, the brussel sprouts, and the truffle pizza. (I ordered a classic margarita with tajin, as well, which was great.) All items were quick, hot, and delicious- especially the brussels.

Mary B.

Yelp
The LaVenture restaurant is located inside the Hotel Saint George in Marfa, Texas. During our three-day visit, we ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the restaurant. The three-egg omelet with roasted grape tomatoes and onions was delicious. For lunch, the chicken tortilla soup was flavorful with a rich broth and plenty of shredded white chicken and tortilla strips. For our anniversary dinner, I enjoyed an appetizer named Crab Cakes Veracruz, while my husband chose the grilled spareribs, which he said were the best he'd ever eaten. We enjoyed a bottle of Savino "Pinot Grigio." For dessert, we split a light and creamy raspberry panna cotta. The restaurant features two huge bar areas. One for the usual dining area offers a glimpse of the Chinati Museum. A more intimate space houses a huge wood-fired pizza oven. The setting was peaceful, with low romantic lighting for a Tuesday night. I'm delighted that Tim Crowley, a LaVenture cousin, has committed to provide high-quality food, ambiance and great service in Marfa, Texas. Joseph A. LaVenture was our grandfather.

Yelp
Overall the pizza had great flavor and a nice fluffy yet crispy crust. The spring salad was nice as well with delicious fresh strawberry and kiwi, a fruity dressing, and fresh greens. I think I would have no complaints except for the price. For a pizza that's nearly $20, it was really very small, and the salad was also quite expensive. Otherwise it was a nice meal.

Yelp
Ambiance was nice. Doug, our server, was awesome! Very attentive and fun to talk to. The food was so good!! We had the crab cakes, fried chicken, and asparagus. So good. We were pleasantly surprised. If you're in Marfa, you have to eat there.

Robyn C.

Yelp
The food is delicious!! Must try the breakfast!! Fabulous! Great snacks and sandwiches as well as entrees!

Yelp
Came to town for family. My nephew wanted to take us out. My great nephews order pizza. It came bottom soggy. Not a good start one would like. I order the artichoke appetizer fabulous. Then three cheese Raviolis and mediterranean salad. This was spilt with my partner and we could not eat it all. My nephew had the steak. Cooked prefect to a tea and my niece had the crab something. It was cool prefect. Now one of my great nephew order fried chicken. We all were done and he just received his. It was not sure about the presentation of the food, but once he cut into. No stopping him. He said it was worth waiting for. I did not get a picture, but it look awesome and I'm not a bird eater. All in all what a meal. Great company and great food. The chief came out and we were pleased. I'm glad to see some life in this town. Over the last years I have worried about this town. This is a good place of Texas. Friendly Check it out. Bring your pocket book full of cash. Cause your going to want to try it all

Yelp
We spent 3 meals and two happy hours here of our 3 day visit to Marfa. This is the only place that is open late during weekdays for dinner and drinks. Most happy hour drinks were $5 and they are excellent! The freshly made wood fired pizzas were awesome too!

Jan L.

Yelp
Hotel Saint George is superb. The restaurant, LaVenture, serves amazing new American cuisine. Brilliant appetizers including steak nachos and crab cakes. The mains are excellent too including the NY strip and tenderloin steak frites. The cocktails and wines are really good as well.
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
Best burger around, the steak frites is also really good! The hollandaise and chimichurri are both two of the best sauces I've ever had. Highly recommend

Chris U.

Yelp
Great place-packed both nights so reservations are highly recommended. Wide variety of food appetizers, salads, entrees and full bar. Everything was excellent!

Ghizal A.

Yelp
Paid $15 for a salad and got this... I just----?????? Went to bed hungry If this place is halfway decent, they shouldn't have this on the menu

C H.

Yelp
First time in Marfa, straightaway to dinner. Server was excellent. Nicely done aesthetic for the restaurant, just off of the lobby. Quiet, not too loud at all. Caesar salad was delish and the croutons were spot on. I'm a total pizza snob, but I did opt for the pizza. The dough was solid, if not a smidge too doughy and could benefit from being a bit thinner. The cheese was not bad. The sauce ruins the pizza. It has an odd taste from start to finish. Definitely not inline with a typical marinara sauce, but more of a fresh and raw tomato sauce. Overall, quite happy with my dinner choice and will be back - sans a pizza selection. Cheers
google avatar

Tamey W.

Yelp
I was not pleased with my pizza from here. I had a regular pepperoni and it was way overdone and dry. Also the girl at the counter seemed to be spaced out and only gave me half my order. Thankfully I checked before I left. I dont think I'll be back.

Lori S.

Yelp
WONDERFUL service, food and ambience. We came here spring break of 2024 and have had a really tough time getting superb service and food many places so far. Busy crowds, vacationing staff themselves so short staffed? Regardless LaVenture reallllllllly set themselves apart by just turning the page and offering a smooth, timely and delicious night in a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you!!!
google avatar

Donald L.

Yelp
Initially walked in the night before and was turned away because there were no tables (3 empty tables, btw). Anyway, the lady was really helpful and made a reservation for the next day. Drinks - Nice ambience and the drinks were great. Try the Chihuhuan Desert, they even have a non-alcoholic version. Food - menu changes throughout the year, so don't be surprised when you see something on here that's not available when dining in. Started with the Gulf Shrimp--came out on a buttery bed of stone grits, AMAZING! Ordered the Duck Ziti, pretty light on the duck but very tasty. Would definitely recommend that if you're hungry. Also got the Ribeye, medium. Beautiful bark on that bad boy, resting on top of some of the best mashed potatoes I've had, but unfortunately cutting into it, it was pretty much rare so had to send it back. Came back out medium rare, so I just let that dream go. My party enjoyed their pizza, so I'd stay in that realm if and when I choose to go back. Overall, good experience, just a little let down on my $60 steak--3.5.

Yelp
I had high expectations but unfortunately those expectations were shattered. My group had drinks at the back bar and everything was amazing - fun conversation with the bartender, yummy drinks! We were having a good time at the bar when someone at a table didn't like how loud we were being, allegedly. A customer was rude and yelled at us and what made it worse is the manager came over and told us to "never come back". We were being louder than anyone else so the only thing I can think is that the establishment is homophobic. The customers complaining we're obviously more important than a group of gay people and the value was clearly placed. This is not a bar I will ever go to again and urge the lgbtqia+ to do the same.
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
We had a pizza and a wedge salad. They were above average. The wait staff was helpful and kind. It seemed the majority of the folks eating had pizzas.
google avatar

Kae J.

Yelp
Food was a bit salty but other wise top quality. I was surprised to get this dinner in Marfa. The fries were crisp and delicious. The steak was tender and juicy. We didn't wait long for a table. The server and hostess were nice. We had wine and Pernod for aperitif. It was costly but worth it for a nice night out. The deserts were perfect. Would recommend.
google avatar

Terri W.

Yelp
The service and ambience were wonderful, the food was slow and spotty. We looked forward to the highly recommended pizza, but it arrived barely warm. BUT, the wedge salad was exceptional. ( I was disappointed with the wine list, but won't penalize them for it.)

Yelp
Day-tripping through Marfa and stopped at LaVenture for a little lunch. Pretty restaurant right off the lobby area of The Hotel St George. Stylish space, and in true Marfa fashion, some beautiful artwork adorned the walls. There were a few other couples having brunch but it was not super busy. My waitress was good about suggesting items from the lunch menu but there was not a lot to choose from - some salads, a couple sandwiches, tacos and a pasta dish. There is a daily special, about which I did not inquire. As handmade pastas are one of their "things", I opted for the Handrolled Fettucine, which came with summer corn, zucchini noodles, basil almond pesto, ricotta (or it might have been burrata). I added some grilled shrimp for extra $$. Presentation was delightful, alas by the time my dish came to the table it was a little cold. The idea of handmade pasta, plus the fresh appearance of the ingredients gave me the impression it would be hot (warm?). The flavors were not bad, and I could not imagine the dish without the grilled shrimp. I'm thinking if the dish was brought out sooner, I would have enjoyed better.

Yelp
This place used to be one of the nicest in town. That is no longer. The service was not great and the food was meh at best. What a disappointment.

John L.

Yelp
I haven't been to the restaurant but the name Laventure (actually spelled Lavanture) is the surname of my grandfather Louis Lavanture. Lavanture was an army surgeon and general practitioner who retired in 1935 and moved to Marfa where he established a practice. He moved into a building (? the hotel?) witfh his family (incl my mom Kathryn) and started a hospital that had 6 rooms. He died in 1946 from a long illness. I never met him but he did good for the town and people of W Texas. I am very pleased that you honored him by naming the restaurant after him. They lived in a home on Lincoln St. John C. Leopold, MD, ret Col USAF

Yelp
Really tasty hotel restaurant, with reasonably priced menu options. Also take some time to browse the hotel's local art collection and the book store, which sells art books and prints. Recs: -Bleu cheese Brussels sprouts pizza was triumphant, absolutely covered in perfectly roasted sprouts, soaked in balsamic and sprinkled with funky nutty cheesy bits!! -Vegetable risotto was really good as well, brightened up nicely with arugula pesto and roasted peppers. Skip: -Ordered the antelope Bolognese because we were curious, would honestly skip it unless you really want to say you've eaten antelope before, just an OK bolognese that tastes like beef. -Sausage and mushroom pizza tasted overwhelmingly of fennel, at a detriment to the other ingredients. Nothing special.

Yelp
Host staff has a lot to learn. Food looks great and bartenders were friendly.... but they wouldn't even let us order a pizza to-go and said it would be an hour before they start taking orders....with open seats at the bar and open community table.

Yelp
Marfa's dining options are not spectacular and this place was no exception. Service was slow and our waitress was not in the best mood that evening. We all ordered different pizzas. The only stand out was the elote pizza.

Yelp
I am very disappointed in my first experience at this restaurant. My family and I went here to have a nice casual dinner while in Marfa. My wife and 2 daughters all ordered Hamburgers with meat only. When the waitress came out with loaded cheeseburgers we politely asked for them to correct the order. 10-15 minutes later the waitress comes back out with the same cold Hamburgers with the cheese & other toppings scraped off. We brought this to her attention by asking if the kitchen had simply sent out the same burgers with the top scraped off to which she replied "yes, probably." My wife then went to the hostess station to ask for a manager, and was given directions to the restroom. After finally locating the manager. We where given a very insincere apology and she walked away to the kitchen to make sure that was what happened,.. then offered to have another 3 hamburgers cooked in 7 minutes. But who wants food from a kitchen that obviously can't be trusted. My advice would be to save your money and eat elsewhere. *Edit- to the restaurant's credit they did cover my bowl of chili & French fries.

Yelp
This appears to be the only restaurant of any significance in Marfa. It's stylish and inside the St George hotel lobby. Free parking is available to the left of the entrance in a unlit gravel lot. So, I might recommend you drop off your companions if anyone is wearing heals since the ground is quite uneven. While it's not worth driving all the way out here just to come to this place, it is truly quite nice. We didn't have reservations which turned out to be a problem since they were fully booked. So, if you plan to visit, please call ahead. However, we were able to sit in the bar area and order a few of the items off both the bar and restaurant menu. Our waitress didn't seem to mind too much but she had to ask permission to bring us anything from the restaurant menu. Our food was well prepared, including roasted Brussels sprouts, bruleed corn, steak, sauteed mushrooms, and much more. They were out of the blistered shishito peppers on the top of the menu which was a bit disappointing. However, being in Marfa in the middle of nowhere, we were happy to be able to get something honestly. As for the bar, it's not particularly well stocked. They didn't have any Kahlua for example so my order of a black Russian remained unfilled. If you decide to come to Marfa, this is the (only) place to be!

Yelp
Pros: great (but pricey) cocktail selection, very friendly bartenders, clean quiet and quaint, shares a space with Marfa Books, half price on all menu items when you eat at the bar on Fri and Sat night, and a menu that was written very well and frankly I was very excited to try. Cons: if it hadn't been for the half priced menu this might have been a two star review. We ordered the crab cake appetizer, the prosciutto wrapped quail, the ahi tuna, with a side of sautéed wild mushrooms and Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were the best thing we ate. They were actually really good. Note, they come with cheese on top as not indicated on the menu. Everything else was sub par. The crab cake was underwhelming, just looked really blah on the plate. The quail tasted fine but that prosciutto was hard and leathery, there was nothing wild about my mushrooms, and the ahi tuna was served on the hottest plate ever and was super salty. Just come in an order appetizers and if you get the ahi ask for a cold plate. I didn't even post any pictures because there wasn't any point.

Yelp
LaVenture was a great place to stop on the way home from Big Bend National Park. After camping for three days it was nice to have a full meal. The chopped salad was really good, as was the chicken tortilla soup. The prices were quite high for the food received, but that seems to be the case in Marfa. That said, this was a solid restaurant that was actually open on Monday.

Yelp
We hadn't really tried a Mediterranean place before until here. The atmosphere is cozy and is also good for groups. The service was friendly and always nearby. We had the seared ahi tuna, wedge salad, beet salad, spinach salad, asparagus and whipped potatoes. The only downside for us is that they do not offer gluten free bread.

Yelp
Checked in at the Hotel Saint George last night and immediately set to drinking at this lovely spot. Even given the Covid-19 craziness, this place was firing in all cylinders. After a couple of rounds outside, moved indoors to a large bar height table. We started with the carpaccio (lovely but over sauced for my taste) and main courses included spaghetti squash, wedge salad, 1/2 chicken and salmon. All of them were absolutely delicious, cooked with love, and nicely plated. The standouts were the chicken and the salmon. The chicken had this fried kale that was just an outstanding compliment to the chicken. The salmon was moist and nicely spiced. Thx for a lovely meal and a lovely time during a somewhat crazy time.

Yelp
Good drinks and wine selection. Particularly if you like white Bordeaux like I do. The (meat and veg) tacos were good and on house made tortillas. Service was on the slow side but it was a busy nice. One of the few places in Marfa with consistent week long hours. Not a bad option for if visiting Marfa early in the week (Sun-Wed). In the middle of town and easy walk from our airbnb.
