NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"If you’re the kind of person who wishes they could fly the Spirit of St. Louis, or know what it was like to take a transatlantic zeppelin flight, good news: the team behind The Drunken Munkey, an Upper East Side Indian restaurant, have opened L’Avion Cafe, where you can sip coffee while dreaming of soaring above Central Park." - Will Hartman, Willa Moore

One of the best café experiences I’ve had in NYC! L’avion Café on 92nd Street is such a beautiful and peaceful spot — perfect for anyone looking to escape the city noise for a bit and enjoy a quiet moment. The coffee is absolutely delicious, rich in flavor and clearly made with care. I also loved the variety on the menu — something for every taste, whether you’re grabbing a quick espresso or sitting down for a longer break. What really stood out to me was the atmosphere. The street it’s on is quiet and charming, which adds so much to the overall vibe. You can actually hear yourself think — something rare in Manhattan! The space is cozy and welcoming, with a stylish interior and a calming energy that makes you want to stay longer than planned. The staff were friendly and professional, and the prices were very reasonable, especially for the quality. Highly recommend this spot to anyone — locals or visitors — looking for a great cup of coffee in a relaxing and enjoyable setting. I’ll definitely be coming back!

For those of you who are missing Starbucks’ pistachio latte season, I suggest coming here for an even BETTER iced pistachio latte - more nutty, less “cherry” flavor. I tried that the first time I stopped by and returned the next day to try the dark choco chill and a ham and cheese croissant (came with chips!). That drink was good, could use more coffee or less chocolate, but the croissant was great! Cozy seating inside and some seats outside too. Excellent and fast service.

I'm a big fan of airplanes so I loved this shop. Nice, relaxing French music really creates an airy ambience. The best part about this cafe is the people working there. They are incredibly down to earth and friendly. They obviously care about making sure the customer has a good experience and the product is 100%. Will definitely be back again and again and again! Those croissants are bomb!

When you walk into L’avion Cafe on 92nd Street between Second and First Avenues, you’re transported to a French cafe, which is both inviting and welcoming. Unfortunately for me, I was just buying a latte and some delicious breakfast treats: an almond croissant and a chocolate eclair! Both were wonderful and tasted as good as the ones I’ve had in Paris!

Love this cozy, side-street, cafe near Carl Schurtz Park on Manhattan’s UES. The selection of pastries was nice (sadly, no vegan options) and loads of coffee and other beverage options. They have several non-dairy milks available. The staff were usually helpful and pleasant. My soy cappuccino was excellent!

Great drip coffee with cream. Good amount of seating inside that’s comfortable as well.

An adorable neighborhood spot. Seth was so engaging and delightful. The ambiance was perfect. I love the decor and theme. So many creative beverage options. Reasonably priced.

Cosy and clean little cafe which serves just the sort of food you need for a quick breakfast, snack or lunch with a choice of drinks. I’ve had breakfast twice here during my two day stay in this part of town - croissants (soft and yummy) and a delicious Capuchino ☕️ (made just the way I’m used to in Sydney!). The aeronautical theme adds to the atmosphere. The barista is super friendly with a good sense of humour.

Yelp
During my recent visit to L'avion Café in New York, I was transported to a charming world of nostalgia and aviation. From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the café's unique interior that seamlessly combined coffee & pastries with an airport. The focal point of L'avion Café's interior is undoubtedly their split-flap television screen. As I sipped on my coffee, I couldn't take my eyes off the mesmerizing display, with soft clicking sounds. The retro-style format showcasing the menu specials and real-time news and weather info worldwide. It added a touch of magic to the already enchanting atmosphere. Speaking of coffee, L'avion Café knows how to brew the perfect cup. Friendly staff too! It's safe to say that coffee lovers and aviation lovers will find their ideal elixir here. If you're looking for a unique and nostalgic café experience in New York, L'avion Café is a must-visit. Trust me, you won't be disappointed - it's a true gem in the city that never sleeps. And my personal tip: try the almond Parisienne!

Yelp
Pros: Cute aviation theme and decor. Staff were friendly, polite, and speedy. Pastries seem pretty straight forward and good warmed up. Cons: Very small space and was overrun preteens on their lunch break. They were blocking the entrance and in general not mindful of their surroundings. Not the shop's fault but definitely made me want to get out as soon as possible. Their blocking the entrance is a safety concern. I don't think my macchiato had espresso shots pulled from an actual espresso machine. It looked/tasted like just coffee put on top.

Yelp
i came during the morning on a weekday and ordered a pistachio latte. there were a couple groups in when i went but no like to order. the pistachio latte was super unique as i've never had anything like it before and tasted like pistachio butter in latte form. loved the inside of the cafe and the cute aviation theme. service was efficient and i got my latte pretty quickly.

Yelp
This is an aviation theme coffee shop. It is a cute addition to the area. I was very into all the cute touches of this place. The arrival/departure stickers on the door was cool and fun. I went on a Saturday morning (today) and it was not busy at all though it took them a bit to make my iced latte. There are two people who work there. Not sure if they were short staffed or what but it was just a bit odd on the wait time for my iced latte. It was not that good a bit too strong for me and a bit bitter. I also had the everything croissant which was fine. I warmed it up a bit when got home and it is definitely better when heated up.

Yelp
L'Avion is a fun new aviation-themed cafe on 92nd street next to Drunken Munkey. My girlfriend and I shared an apple turnover, almond croissant, and a coffee each. All of the food was delicious. The staff was friendly and the interior was clean + well decorated. Coffees and the bakery items all ran about $5 each. I think this'll be one of my new go-to places for a coffee! As some (hopefully) constructive criticism, the pen they were using (to write on cups to identify drink orders) ended up getting on our hands once the iced coffee began to sweat and was difficult to get off. Also the bathroom had no paper towels nor toilet paper.

Yelp
This cafe was adorable and had a plethora of options for coffee, espresso, and baked goods. The lattes were awesome - best froth/foam I've ever had. There were two women on staff at the time we went and both were very polite and helpful. The service was wonderful. The ambiance of this cafe is aeroplane themed! Music was dreamy and the seating was comfortable and chic. I was bummed the cafe didn't open before 7am because I would have returned before my flight home the next morning.

Yelp
L'Avion is an aviation themed coffee shop opened by the owners of the popular Drunken Monkey. I love the decor but as for the offerings I don't see anything that makes me excited. It's the standard overpriced muffins and croissants. I returned and had a second look and the food still doesn't entice me. They are still working on the kitchen and will be having items prepared in the kitchen in the future. I recommend you stop in and check it out for yourself. They have great customer service. The employee was very friendly and helpful answering my questions. I'm sure they will be successful if they continue to provide top notch customer service. They are currently drawing a steady stream of customers. At the time I arrived today I had a choice of seats. I'm not thrilled with their pet policy. Pets with owners in the outside seating maybe, but not inside. I definitely like to see this new business in my hood. Please visit and write a review. Your opinions matter to me!

Yelp
What a great addition to the Yorkville neighborhood! My boyfriend and I enjoyed our Saturday morning here. Got the almond croissant and the hazelnut latte -- both delicious! Picture attached for the cute ambiance that echoed across the entire cafe. Love the theme of aviation! The staff was friendly and understandably they are still working out some improvements such as re-stocking the bathroom and dealing with a Saturday morning rush hour, but overall my boyfriend and I already can't wait to return. Looking forward to trying more items in the near future and more coffee! Thank you for the sticker too, that is such a fun logo for the cafe! Cheers.

Yelp
So excited to have this coffee shop in the neighborhood right next to one of my favorite restaurants The Drunken Munkey - same ownership I believe! i loved the iced latte I got, and the aviation theme was adorable. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Nothing Special or unique. Was very excited to have a coffee place a block away from us but highly disappointed. The coffee isn't even from a proper espresso machines where you do the coffee from scratch. Its an all automatic machine with coffee that is hard to sip down. Just an easy business opportunity I suppose also owning drunken munkey on the side. I'll stick with Madam Bonte for coffee made right.

Yelp
We were excited to see a new local coffee spot pop up on our block. The theme is cute - travel puns, French music, cute decor - and the coffee is good. Tried the banana walnut muffin which was amazeeee and essentially cake ha. There's 3 tables with free wifi so I'll be back to send some work emails next time!

Yelp
Was so excited to see this cute shop finally open in my neighborhood! This was the first weekend they're open and they said they're still working to expand the menu. I had a delicious chocolate croissant and an iced latte -- both were great! I love all the little travel touches like the French newspaper in which the pastries are served. Can't wait to come back and try the other pastries that look delicious!

Aleksandra M.

Yelp
The cozy ambiance, combined with the aromatic blend of freshly brewed coffee, created a delightful experience. The baristas were friendly and skillful.

Yelp
Super cute cafe in Upper East! I absolutely love the touches of aviation - so creative. Their coffee was phenomenal and the atmosphere was so delightful. Glad this place has opened and can't wait to come back with a few friends to enjoy their pastries.

Yelp
I was excited to see a new coffee shop in the neighborhood with an added bonus of it being owned by locals! I know they are ramping up but they made my coffee to perfection and I am particular about my coffee ;). All the baked goods looked amazing but I decided on a croissant and it did not disappoint. I loved the feeling I was taking a trip to Paris and will be back for sure!

Mark A.

Yelp
Amazing baked goods and coffee! We all split the muffins, pastries and croissants and all were outstanding!

Ines F.

Yelp
Delish UES fave! Come experience this charming French cafe with dreamy aroma coffee, flaky buttery melting croissants with a cute aviation theme. Very excited to have a new "must stop"when in NYC! Mocha Montagne was my choice this time and coming back for one of the Specialty Flights! While enjoying baked goods and a cup of delicious coffee, have a lot of fun spotting each inch of aviation details. Come and experience this new gem yourself. Great service, food and ambiance!

Tamara A.

Yelp
Amazing food delicious food to go. Great ambiance. Well worth to stop in and check out as the interior of the restaurant is set up much like the 1970's aviation gear. A new New York attraction!

Edward R.

Yelp
Great spot for a coffee and bite to eat with attentive service. The French aviation theme totally works creating perfect environment for a break. Small place seats maybe 18-20 tops.

Yelp
I went to L'avion for breakfast yesterday and loved the ambiance and the food. I particularly enjoyed the almond croissant and kept the ham and cheese croissant for later and it was still delicious hours later. Staff was very friendly and service was fast and efficient. I definitely recommend this place! It's a true gem and can't wait to try the rest of their menu to come.
