"At Lavo, it’s essential to leave space for dessert. Because you shouldn’t come to this sprawling Italian restaurant in Marylebone and leave without trying the 20-layer peanut butter cake. Yes, there’s also a giant £30 meatball on the menu and a too-salty cacio e pepe pizza. But if you focus on the fish dishes, you can’t go wrong. "Lavo in Marylebone looks like every restaurant featured on those social experiment documentaries (“dating shows”) that the producers choose in the hope that the wall of live flowers and big plush booths might secure an “I don’t care that it’s only been six days, I love you”. But beyond the burnt orange velvet stools, a far more exciting amber icon rises—their penne alla vodka. Zero complaints about the tip-toeing spice factor of the thick sauce and the chewy little prosciutto chunks that add a smokiness that cuts through the cream. "Cake is the most important part of any birthday. And the main reason to book this Italian spot in Marylebone is for the 20-layer peanut butter cake. It’s extravagant, and a single 30cm-tall slice is as filling as an entire cake. There’s funky jazz and R&B playing in the spacious dining room, and a buzzy atmosphere even at 5pm.
