Lay Lao (Ari)

"Som Tam comes to the beach at this cosy Ari restaurant, where north-eastern style dishes are topped with the freshest seafood. Opened in 2014 by a family from Hua Hin, the place’s owners delight in offering guests the same food they serve family and friends. The result is fare that balances Isan flavours with seafood from Hua-Hin and Petchaburi, and beef from a notable farm. Fried squid with lay lao sauce is a standout, as is Luang Phra Bang green papaya salad." - Michelin Inspector

lay lao was good! we had the crab fried rice which had chunky crab meat, chicken pad kra pao with its spicy hit, and one of their signatures: grilled pork neck. the pork neck was the most outstanding one we had—a very umami dipping sauce, akin to sinigang, but different with spices and a strong sweet-sour punch. the pork itself is tender and cooked well, pairing well with its dip. will definitely try a lot more for when i’m back and with even more crab dishes!

Lay Lao - Ari truly delivers a sensational Thai dining experience! Every dish we ordered was bursting with flavor — from the refreshing pomelo salad to the perfectly grilled pork neck, each bite was unforgettable. The seafood tom yum was rich and aromatic, with the perfect balance of spice and sour. The crispy fried fish topped with vibrant herbs and sauce was a standout, and the pad Thai was packed with wok hei and authenticity. Add to that a cozy modern ambiance and attentive service, and you’ve got yourself one of the best Thai meals in Bangkok. Highly recommended for both locals and tourists!

We accidentally spot it when we wander around in Ari and found out that this is one of famous restaurant. So, why not we give it a try. We had a brunch here, a wait within 5 - 10 mins, short and quick, nothing much hassle, everything was so smooth! The food especially so gooooooooood! Worth giving a try!

I give this place 5 stars, it’s my favorite Thai food spot! The best part is they have less spice in the non-spicy dishes (which is rare in Bangkok since everything here is super spicy for my standards). The prices are affordable, the place is clean, portions are big, and they have a huge variety of options. The fried calamari is honestly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, and the shrimp pad Thai is beyond amazing. Definitely a must-try!

Good ambience but the food is on the average side for the price paid. Was expecting something more from all the michelin guide stickers but you could honestly get better food with a smaller price point. Reservations are required and the place is packed full of tourists.

The place is a three-story shop with air conditioning, comfortable for a quick stop. The deep fried squid was nicely done and paired well with the green chili sauce. Overall, the food is close to good, but not something I’d go out of my way for. Maybe I had higher expectations since it’s Michelin awarded. That said, the area itself is worth exploring. It’s near Gump’s Space, Dog in Town, Nana Coffee Roaster, and surrounded by many other cafes, perfect for café hopping or a casual stroll.

Really great. The pomelo salad was fantastic, definitely the highlight of the meal and the Massaman curry with beef shank was sweeter than I was expecting but also very good. Don’t miss the Thai iced tea either. I recommend booking ahead because I scored the last open table and it was only 6:30pm.

1. Som tam : so-so, not the best I've tasted 2. Tomyum goong, clear soup : so so, not spicy, quite bland. 3. Squid in special sauce : can order. Fresh. Goes well with the chilli sauce 4. Pork neck : nice, tender, goes well w the sauce. Will be even better if has the chargrilled taste Overall so so.
