Not ever having planned a cremation memorial, Ruth guided me with compassion, patience and what felt like genuine care. I never had to plan a funeral before and Tremaine, Ruth, and Naomi assisted in making this process having to funeralize my mother as easy as possible. Ruth was truly the answer to my prayers in more ways than one. At a very overwhelming, confusing, and lonely time, she provided calm, direction, and compassion. She became a friend during the last five months of my mother’s longest goodbye bc of a monster called dementia. Aside from choosing which option would best honor my mom, I’d vent and cry to Ruth like she was family bc I had no family left, and she never wavered or judged. In the past two years we've lost two family members and used Lay to Rest. Everyone we've dealt with was compassionate, professional yet kind, knowledgeable, and efficient. I hope it is a long time before having to go through a loss again, but we will call Ruth again when it does eventually happen.

Really all I can say is "Wow!" Something I never thought I would write about a funeral home. Actually, I never thought I would write anything about a funeral home, but the experience provided was so much better than we ever expected. The Saturday morning my Mom passed away my Dad and I started calling around for the best price coupled with high quality in the Northern VA area (now you don't have to do that). My father and I looked to Google Reviews to help us in the decision-making process and have found that their 5-star reviews are well earned. I never would have thought that best price would equate to outstanding service. Ruth was excellent and keeps her phone with her all of the time so she can respond immediately to customers. I called other places and they told me that only the funeral director was allowed to quote services and they weren't there, so I had to wait for them to call me back. After my father decided that Lay To Rest Cremation and Funeral Home was the one we would go with, Ruth had a team out to my father’s place in Ballston in <2 hrs. Ruth called in the interim and gave an update as to when the team would arrive and they did arrive exactly at that time. The two men that came were incredibly respectful to my father and I as well as to my mother’s body. If/when the police come after a loved one passes, make sure that you get a police report number and know the physician’s contact information that will be signing the death certificate. Fortunately, the kind Arlington police officers explained that to us before they left. So, we were ready with all the pertinent information necessary when we called Ruth. Ruth also hand delivered the upgraded and engraved cremation urn we chose with the ashes contained therein and the death certificates we ordered (expect $10 per certificate) to us at our home in Arlington, something we did not expect and was a delightful surprise. Ruth is also going the extra mile to help us with the choice of a marker and emblems on the marker for my parent’s grave site. The team at Lay to Rest Cremation and Funeral Home is pretty incredible. Update - We later engaged Ruth to have the memorial placard manufactured. Lay to Rest's Zion installed the memorial at the grave site and they sent Randy to the gravesite on the day of the close family service with the parish priest to make sure it all went according to plan. Literally, the hardest part was getting agreement amongst the family as to what words should be on the memorial and which icons or symbols it should include. Ruth gives you a lot of choices! The whole family was impressed with the quality and high value of the Lay to Rest services provided.

I can’t say enough good things about the very positive experience we had with Lay to Rest Funeral Home. I interviewed several other funeral homes as my wife and I were preparing for the passing of her mother. In my conversations with Ruth, and unlike all the other businesses I spoke to, the focus was always on the needs and desires of the family and not on dollars and cents. What a fine business model, and what an excellent way to deal with people who are going through a particularly difficult time. Ruth and her team were always responsive to our questions, timely in providing the services promised, and polite, respectful and professional in every aspect of their interaction with us.
