"Using family recipes sets Layered, which is known for its exceptional pastries and coffee, apart. Try the fan-favorite Belgiun waffles or sweet potato hash for brunch, along with the “Not So Bottomless Mimosas.” Night owls are invited to travel back in time through the vintage Coke machine on the patio to the speakeasy, Room One Eleven, for cocktails and elevated bar snacks." - Courtney E. My Reviews

Google
I recently visited Layered and decided to try their chicken sandwich. While the chicken itself was fried, I was disappointed to find that it was so drenched in sauce that it lost any semblance of the crispy texture I was hoping for. The amount of sauce was overwhelming. As for the homemade hot sauce, I had high expectations but it tasted strikingly similar to Tabasco sauce—spicy, yes, but lacking the unique depth or flavor I was hoping for. It is clear that the sauce was made in-house, but it didn’t offer the distinct or complex kick that I anticipated. To top it off, the meal cost $16, which felt a little steep for what was delivered. I also opted for the $2 tea, which unfortunately wasn’t great. I didn’t get the value I was hoping for. Everyone was friendly and helpful, I enjoyed the atmosphere, but I regretted my decision coming in on a whim for a bite.

I came here with a friend during the weekend to grab some brunch, and we only had to wait about 15 minutes after putting our name on the list, which was great. I ordered a regular cappuccino and the breakfast sandwich that comes served with mixed fruit. The sandwich and the fruit were really delicious! I loved that, instead of regular bread, it was served on a croissant. The restaurant itself is really nice and quirky, with great seating. Our server was super friendly and helped us decide what to order from the menu, as it was our first time. Excellent spot for brunch right on the square in downtown McKinney!

Google
100% the best Chai Latte and Hash plates in town. The sweet potato hash was phenomenal and I seriously don’t think I’ve ever had a chai latte so smooth in DFW

Google
First time here. Came with my bf for a nice brunch, we sat outside, nice patio area. Food was exceptional, but our server was amazing, wish I remembered her name!! Worth trying at least once

Google
It was a nice place to stop in for breakfast. This was my third try. Usually, the wait is very long and it’s pretty claustrophobic. The spicy chicken sandwich had good flavor. The chicken was average.

Google
Lovely brunch place in downtown McKinney. We come here often. I love their coffee and migas. Their spicy chicken sandwich is amazing.

Google
Very spacious place with old style but contemporary setup. Very friendly staff and delicious food. The shakshuka is amazing 😋

It's a cute spot. The Caramel Macchaito was delicious. Also, my brunch items were fulfilling and tasty. The ambiance was pleasant, and the staff was friendly.

Yelp
Superfast service, topped only by the speed of the cooks! Wow! Even better, the food quality is superb! My 'Corned Beef Hash & Eggs' was hearty and tasty, and my wife loved the 'Breakfast Tacos.' The Mocha Espresso was better than Starbucks. Five Stars all day long!!

Shariq A.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing first breakfast at Layered. The flat white was strong, yet smooth and perfect temperature. My omelette was nicely cooked with nice fresh veggies. Shakshouka was legit as well - done exactly the way you would expect it in Turkey or the Middle East. Service was great as well. Looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
Really fun little brunch spot in downtown McKinney. This is a great place to eat brunch with family or friends. They have a cute little robot that brings the food out. The coffee is great. I had a dark chocolate mocha and its something that I will crave. The espresso was smooth and it's made with a dark chocolate, which is why I ordered it. It's a good dark chocolate and its big enough that you can sit for a while an enjoy your coffee. The menu has a lot of wonderful things and I was informed that most of the menu can be made gluten free. I had the steak and eggs. The steak was cooked really good. It's a good steak too. It had a great beefy flavor that went well with the perfectly cooked egg and the spiced potatoes. I recommend going, but plan ahead. This place is popular at one point there was a line out the door so be prepared to wait. I promise its worth the wait.

Yelp
What a great little spot in down town. The parking is a bot challenging but worth it! The Food was fantastic. And the service was marvelous. We enjoyed a nice breakfast sitting outside and taking in the bustle of the thriving downtown. I would definitely return. If in the area I would suggest you give it a try.

Yelp
This a great place for breakfast or lunch. Very laid back atmosphere with old brick walls and includes a full bar. I ordered the monster-sized 3 egg omelet with an add-on of breakfast potatoes. All was delicious! They use a cute robot to help serve plates and service is prompt and friendly. I will definitely be back for a lunch sometime very soon!

Robb S.

Yelp
It would be nice if the service was as good as the food. Being treated like cattle and talked down to is not the dinning experience I was looking for...

Emily F.

Yelp
Fantastic venue, decor and nice staff. Went for Sunday brunch and their ordered a cappuccino, mimosa (1st was $12 and each additional was $1), cornbeef hash, sweet potato bacon hash, and toast with cream cheese, strawberries and their delish freshly-made fruit compote, which was incredibly tasty. Both hashes were savory delights. Would definitely eat here again. One unique aspect was "Bella," the robot server. Our waiter explained that they use the robot because the kitchen is so far away from the seating area and the robot can carry up to twenty plates compared to a human server.

Summer P.

Yelp
We received really quick service and food was great! The French toast with berries on top was amazing!

Melissa F.

Yelp
Four of us ate here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. I had the shakashuka skillet. My friend had the breakfast sandwich, her husband had the steak and eggs, and her kid ordered the sweet potato pancakes. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

Danielle H.

Yelp
I have been wanting to visit this restaurant for a long time now!! Both dishes were on opposite sides of the flavor wheel! One with a mild spice and hot skillet, while the other was sweet & fluffy!! Everyone we spoke to was friendly & welcoming! We also chose to sit outside while the morning temperature was still cool and listen to the town square music playing on the speakers!

Brent F.

Yelp
Was walking in McKinney and wanted a good coffee and a light breakfast. Layered was great. Coffee was served with a smile and the breakfast sandwich (with bacon) was plenty. It's on the main square so parking is on the street where you can find it. Say for a while with my computer at the bar and the staff couldn't have been nicer!

Allyson H.

Yelp
Great service ! A little crowded on Sunday but amazing menu and service. I had Swiss burger. It was out of this world so were Nutella crepes

Ella A.

Yelp
I love layered. They have good coffee and yummy brunch! I particularly love their shashuka. Great service as well! We come to downtown McKinney very often and are happy to have this place so close to us!

Patricia K.

Yelp
We visit this restaurant every time we come to McKinney. The service is always fantastic and the menu has lots of options, including gluten free! The atmosphere is inviting and the restaurant doubles as a 'speak easy' on the weekends, but that's a secret. I didn't get a before picture of our food, but the after picture says it all!

Samantha J.

Yelp
Very cute place with amazing food. The service was great and everyone was very friendly. We went on a Saturday morning and it was busy but not overly crowded or loud. Only downside was we made a reservation but still had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. We didn't mind, we had a coffee at the bar which had a great selection. Looking forward to visiting again!

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
What a great idea my husband and I had to go to Layered for breakfast this morning. The good spirit of the people who were working there could be felt. This coffee place evolved nicely since it opened its doors, its food and coffees are getting better. But what has not changed is the excellent attention to its clients. Delicious cortado and cappuccino, highly recommended.

Victoria P.

Yelp
This place was really cute and the food was good. There was a short wait but it was a weekend and this is located downtown where all the shops are so that is to be expected. The vibe inside has an art deco but rustic feel. The coffees were beautiful and they tasted great too. I tried their corned beef hash and I actually enjoyed it. My friend got the vegetarian hash and that looked wonderful too. My other friend got the skillet and that as not really as good. The dish was really soupy and there wasn't a starch with it. I guess you can get bread but just keep in mind you're just sopping up liquid with bread. If you think you're getting a skillet that has potatoes and eggs etc like some other breakfast places that is not accurate. The service was fine, but they were busy. They use little delivery robots but the servers do set the food on your table. Overall, I'd come again but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

Amanda J.

Yelp
The food was so dry and cold and the service was so bad I wouldn't serve this shit to my dog and it took more than 30 minutes to even get my food I've never had this type of experience ever in my life and honestly wouldn't wish it on anyone it taste so bland my own shit would have more flavor than anything they could give you and there was this curly black hair in my chicken and they wouldn't comp me for it just don't waste your time come hungry and leave hungry.

Steve W.

Yelp
Shakshuka. That's what tried because breakfast can get boring and I was pleased. In fact I've been looking for recipes to try making it at home. It's a nice place in a great location. I recommend.

Landry R.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my significant other and thought instantly how busy the restaurant was once we first entered. Nothing off putting, but I was excited to try the food since there had been such a crowd. Sat at the bar due to limited space and the service was on it. We were able to order drinks and food quickly with a friendly staff. Ordered the breakfast sandwich, but unfortunately it was just subpar. The croissant was the best part of the sandwich, in comparison to the stiff bacon and unmelted cheese. It was good for a breakfast stop, but lack luster in contents considering the price for the sandwich was 13 dollars with a side of fruit. My partner had the breakfast tacos and had no complaints. I would come back here again if I was in downtown McKinney for breakfast, but I don't think I would come out of my way for what we experienced.

Yelp
We made reservations for 1115 on a Saturday for 6, we were seated immediately. Food was all amazing! It comes out from a robot. Coffee was delicious! Prices were fair. The place is super cute. Decorated and clean. Will return and most definitely recommend.

Paula G.

Yelp
Always enjoy dining here for the outside eating and personable servers. The food is good and the coffee/lattes too. It's a plus they open at 8:00. Being one of few that open before that.

Tracy F.

Yelp
Outstanding place. We highly recommend, the food and service is excellent. And the drinks are good.

Pattie B.

Yelp
We are visiting from out of town and had breakfast here twice. Partly because it opened the earliest. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I'm a picky breakfast eater and he helped me "modify " the breakfast tacos, and they were perfect. They have a cute robot that helps them serve. On some evenings this place turns into a speakeasy. We sure wished we would be here for that. We might have to come back.

Jeff A.

Yelp
Food was great and their Jam or jelly is freaking amazing! Go there you won't be disappointed!

Sara S.

Yelp
Came in to sit down to enjoy some coffee. Ordered the coffee. The waitress came back and asked if we would be ordering food. We said no, just here for some coffee :) Mind you the place was not packed. She rolled her eyes, blatantly in front of us. I was baffled by this. At this point we did not feel comfortable staying here. We had no further interaction with the waitress until she dropped off the check without saying anything. Usually we are good tippers even if the check is a small amount. But her attitude is why she received a good ole George Washington. The place was cute and would have been something we would have liked to visit again in the future. Coffee was good. That's why I gave 2 stars. But Naur on ever coming back.

Skyy S.

Yelp
I was looking for a bottomless, mimosa place for brunch and this was definitely a great spot. The mimosas are not technically bottomless, but are only a dollar after your first one. I ended up getting the breakfast sandwich with bacon and a side of potatoes with a slice of Nutella toast. This food was very good and I will definitely have to try something else on the menu next time I come back. They also have a cool robot that delivers the food to your table. Our server was super nice and let us know what was good on the menu and what most people ordered. The restaurant gives a upscale diner, but had really good music playing throughout our time. Also, they have a speakeasy in this restaurant at night which is really cool.

Tonya F.

Yelp
Charming atmosphere. The robot serves as a tray carrying mascot, so fun! Fresh berries on the French toast, very yummy! Hubby had to send his eggs back to get them over hard. And, they charged us for his 2nd cup of hot tea. A great place for tourists shopping downtown.

Alexandra G.

Yelp
The good: * The food selection is pretty good. The food is tasty and fresh. They have both full plates or smaller dishes. * Our server was very attentive. You can get Mimosas refill for $1. *They have full bar, and a very good selection of coffees as well. * This place is located right in the Downtown quarter, so it's a good location if you are interested in looking around. The not so good: *The place is on the smaller side but with a modern and eclectic vibe. They asked us to vacate our table as soon as we paid, bc they had reservations they needed to seat (I understand that) but it's a bit no no for me (personally). *Parking may be an issue because of the prime location, but there is free street parking up to 3 hours.

Kim M.

Yelp
We popped in on Mother's Day on our way out of town for a cappuccino to go. I wish we had time to stay for breakfast because the food looked amazing. The staff was friendly, the service was perfect, and the cappuccino was bold and creamy and delicious! We will be back for breakfast or brunch next trip!

Brad N.

Yelp
My GF and I have visited here for brunch on several occasions, and it never disappoints. One word of warning up front: They do NOT take same day reservations for brunch. Call the day before if you want to get in at a set time. The decor is simple yet functional, and one of the coolest features is the BellaBot, a friendly robot server that brings dishes to your table. Currently, a server has to offload the plates onto your table, but that may change at some point. It's very good at its job, though! But what of the food? In a word: Yum! My favorite brunch dish is the Shakshuka skillet, billed as "An Israeli dish with a fresh sunny side up egg in a smoky, vegetable-laden tomato sauce, served with warm bread." It's that, and probably more, because you'll likely want to add on avocado, feta cheese, kalamata olives, bacon, or sausage (or maybe all of those; the base dish doesn't have meat), It's served in a small cast iron skillet, and it's a well seasoned (but not spicy) dish that's unique in flavor, and very satisfying. Also worth a nod are the polenta pancakes, which have an unusual texture due to the polenta, and taste great with berry compote or some syrup. Another big favorite are the Belgian waffles, but know up front that these are Liege waffles, which feature a thicker batter, uneven edges, and pearl sugar throughout, so they're not the typical style you might expect. They are, however, crispy and delicious, and hold on to all of the syrup and butter you can throw at them. And finally, the coffee program here is great as well, with the latte being our drink of choice, and they really do them right. Definitely check this place out, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Food is so so, service is good.. it was a new place for us.. it's location good but parking is terrible

Tamera D.

Yelp
So wonderful. And great service, I had the sweet potato hash and it was so fresh and spicy. I highly recommend.

Yelp
My fiancé and I decided to tour downtown McKinney for a day and our first stop was Layered. When I was building our itinerary for the day, Layered "easily" won for brunch and it was def a hit for us! We got an omelette (this was cooked so well, except the fact that I picked the wrong cheese for my omelette. It's funny because the lady who served us told me to pick a different cheese but I didn't listen). We also got the breakfast tacos and sweet potato hash. Fiance got a coffee and I got a mimosa. Everything was cooked really well and we agreed that we would be back. Our server seemed to be in a hurry while taking our food order (I guess the place was kinda busy at the time) and she got our order wrong, but was very apologetic and fixed it. I would also say that I might have been a "tough" customer because I was torn between some things on the menu (I wanted everything) and kept trying to see if I could mix and match stuff...lol and asking for a bunch of suggestions. She ended up being amazing though. She came to speak to us about McKinney and we really enjoyed talking to her. She was great. We didn't get to experience the robot server. I don't know how they decide who gets that. I was documenting my visit on Instagram and, since I didn't experience that, my followers won't see that cool part of the restaurant. They have "bottomless" mimosas for $1 each after the first order. I was about to get a cup to go. Also, did you know that layered turns into a speakeasy at night? It's called Room One Eleven. I will plan to visit in the future. Overall, we will be back.

Wang J.

Yelp
Great service and good food. My daughter and I went to renowned drive license and time to quick brunch! Perfect food but little smelly blood for steak!

Jannifer K.

Yelp
I came to Layered the other day with my friend and I must say- it is a really cute spot! The interior has a very cozy, small upscale eatery feel to it. My friend and I did not have reservations but they were quick to seat us (even though it was busy). The guy that initially sat us was a bit gruff, but the waiter was very friendly and kept checking on us. I got a decaf cappuccino with oat milk and lavender, while my friend got a breakfast plate. My friend enjoyed the breakfast plate (especially the potatoes; they were seasoned well and very soft); I, on the other hand, wasn't a fan of the cappuccino. I thought the espresso was bitter/ sharp compared to other espresso drinks I've had around town, and I had to ask for more lavender to balance out the taste. Overall, we had a decent experience here. It wouldn't be at the top of my list, but if you're in the area, it's an option for breakfast/ brunch.

Chantel S.

Yelp
Stopped here while waiting for my dog to be groomed. The area is so cute and perfect for a breakfast date where you can walk around the square after. I sat outside and the service was fantastic, they were quick and helpful with the menu. Im pretty sure I ordered food and it was good, but I definitely got the Chai and it was both beautiful and delicious. I don't come out this way often but I'll definitely stop again if I do.

Jimie C.

Yelp
Great brunch spot! It was very busy, so we sat at the bar. The waffle was cooked to perfection with a crunch. It wasn't overly sweet. Loved the potato's! I could not figure out what they were made with. Staff was friendly and attentive. Definitely would go back!

Ashauntay G.

Yelp
Let's start with Robert my server!! Amazing service, he's really nice and makes sure that your food is great after a couple of bites. And definitely checks on you. The ambiance is amazing, the lightening, and you're able to have a conversation without loud music. I'm definitely returning back. Y'all should come here 10/10.

Brianna B.

Yelp
Let me rave about the waffle right quick. The waffle is soft, crispy and crunchy all at the same time??? They add sugar crystals to the waffle, so you get that satisfying KRONCH when eating. But no worries, it's not too sweet. In fact, it's just right. So much so that, I didn't even feel the need to add syrup. The powdered sugar. Sugar crystals and fresh berries were all that I needed. The inside was nice and fluffy and the outside had that scrape-your-knife-over-the-exterior crispyness. This waffle is in my top three favorite waffles---and it's not three. The lox bagel was good. The portion of salmon was standard. I subbed cream cheese for avocado and it was nice. That waffle tho...

Melisa S.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, located in the middle of old Downtown McKinney a cute small town vibe. Layered has an unexpected twist of modern day with their Robot who delivers your food to the table. My Coffee was delicious and food was as expected, Tasty with suitable portions. My only taken back moment, was the final amount spent for a basic breakfast. Never have I paid so much for what I received. Although service was Great, almost $70.00 for 2 seems a bit high for my liking which makes it hard to justify going back. But hey if you got the money check this place out. If you are on a budget I would say maybe save up for this one.

Raegan L.

Yelp
My aunt chose to take us here for lunch one day, and I totally respect the decision. Layered is a really rad place. It's got very simplistic decorations, but when you add them all up (you could say, when you layer them together), it makes for a super neat place that's fun to gawk around as you sit and dine. The only thing I can continue to think about from LAYERED is their freaking waffles. You can get a chicken and waffles entree, and after trying my cousin's dish of this, our entire table immensely regretted not also getting those dang waffles. I kid you not- BEST WAFFLE I HAVE *EVER* HAD! Like, it's hard to even fully recount just how good. It was a sweet and very sugary waffle, one of those bites of food that's so good that you just turn and look at your friend/ family member in knowing acknowledgment and honor to understand just how wonderful that taste of food is. Holy cats. I did also get a mimosa, which was okay but my poor waitress forgot about until near the end of the meal because they were so busy. $10 to begin with, and then $1 for refills. The rest of us really enjoyed our meals, but we were absolutely hooked on the waffles from the moment of impact with our tongues, and it was hard to think of much else. And the in the mornin', I'm gettin' LAYERED waffles!

Clarice C.

Yelp
Service, food and ambiance was good. I give 4 stars instead of 5 because I wasn't impressed with entree and sweet tea that wasn't sweet. My friends enjoyed their meals, so 4 stars. I plan to return and order something different from the BLTA on a crossiant instead of Sourdough bread. I thought my sandwich would have a lot of flavor with the bacon, avocado spread, added gouda cheese but it was bland. The saving grace for my sandwich was the grape jelly I added. The jelly tasted amazing. I ordered a sweet tea that was anything but sweet. I ordered a Chai Tea Latte and it was delicious. One friend ordered the spicy chicken sandwich the other an omelet.

Neema M.

Yelp
You definitely want to make a rez for this place beforehand. It seems to get bussyy over the weekend. It's only street parking but we were all able to find parking relatively close (3 separate cars). They were accommodating for our group including kiddos. They served us relatively quickly and we weren't waiting too long for our food. For the most, everyone loved their meals (chicken and waffles, burger, tacos, crepes, pancakes). I got an egg white veggie omelette and it was alright. I'm not sure why they drenched it in oil. I loved the sweet potato pancakes and almond milk latte I got though. Overall, I still recommend the place, but wouldn't get the omelette again.

Jessica M.

Yelp
The food and service was great. My son ordered the French toast and it was really good. I got the BLT sandwich. Enjoyed that as well. It came with homemade chips.

Lisa R.

Yelp
I stop by Layered a few times a week for my Breve fix and decided it was past time to write a review. Every time I go, they know me by name; know my drink; welcome me and thank me for coming in. They are friendly, efficient and my drink is always just the way I ask for it! Haven't eaten here in quite some time but only because mornings are busy. Food looks fabulous and everyone always seems to be enjoying it. Lots of regulars so that tells you something! Excellent job by Jessie as the barista! And the guys are always over and above as well!

Meisha C.

Yelp
I absolutely enjoyed my visit to Layered. It's a quaint coffee shop with a few tables but dont pass up the counter space. Everyone is friendly and check on you regardless if its their table and Sydney my waitress was a doll. Now let's talk the main event FOOD. I was a pleasant surprise just how delicious the food was. I ordered the vegan hash and polenta pancakes. The Vegan has was devine, seasoned well with a bit of spice and plenty of delicious vegetables. The pancakes were fluffy and very large and the berry sauce was a perfect touch. Word of advice: Now I knew the hash was going to be plenty but my sweets side would not let it rest and I'm glad I listened. GET THE PANCAKES. You can always nibble for the rest of your day.

Parris T.

Yelp
I love a super secret speakeasy! Pretty good drinks! This place is also called the Room One Eleven. After looking at the previous reviews we discovered there was a bunch of racist reviews based on the Room One Eleven however, we did not have any issues! The bartender was friendly and drinks really were great! Will be back again!
