Sonoma’s MacArthur Place Prepares to Add Mediterranean Fine Dining to the Mix With Layla - Eater SF

"Luxury resort MacArthur Place will soon open a new, updated restaurant in downtown Sonoma. Called Layla, it’s taking the reins from Saddles, the resort’s previous dining destination, with a concept focused on lighter, Mediterranean flavors. Though the hook is that the restaurants are part of celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian’s growing hospitality empire, Layla’s head chef will be the driving force behind the menu and kitchen. Chef Cole Dickinson was most recently part of Chris Cosentino’s Acacia House (and an Eater Young Gun from the class of 2012, nominated for his time as a sous chef under chef Michael Voltaggio). The fancy resort and hotel has lured wine tourists for twenty years with its guest houses, a pool, and spa. Layla will be part of its massive renovations following its purchase by a hospitality company, IMH Financial Corporation; its name is a nod to the original property founder’s granddaughter, Layla. Saddles, the wine country cuisine that closed in anticipation of Layla, was a destination for red wine and steaks with dark wood and a more equine theme. In a more updated contrast, Layla’s dining room is light and airy with neutral tones, and the menu is filled with hummus, babaganoush, cacio e pepe with esplette pepper, beet tartare, and lamb tagine." - Ellen Fort

We had an incredible time at Layla! The food and drinks were absolutely delicious and the staff was friendly, kind, and attentive. We were celebrating my mom's birthday and they went above and beyond to make her feel special. The prices were also incredibly reasonable for the quality of food we received. The only reason for 4 stars is that service was fairly laidback and slow. It took about 30 minutes to get our check and we were late to where we needed to be. We definitely could've asked for the check mid-way through our meal as we knew we were on a timeline, but we would've appreciated faster service at that point. Overall our experience was amazing and the property is peaceful and beautiful - the perfect spot for an enjoyable breakfast or brunch!

The restaurant is located at the back of an upscale hotel, so you'll walk past a beautiful lobby and a fancy bar. I love the healthy brunch options filled with a a few types of vegetables. Our poached eggs was perfectly cooked. Smoked salmon was tasty. The cube hashbrown is an interesting touch. Our dessert was decent. They also offer some unique wellness smoothies. One latte was served properly, while the other was served spilled. They taste good though. All the staff were friendly. The interior and cutlery are quite aesthetic, although our table had a few damaged spots. Our indoor seating had plenty of sunlight with nice view. Outdoor seating seems like a nice spot on a good day as well. The toilet is very clean, and very nice. The hand towel is a great effort for eco-friendly approach. Valet parking is available.

This place is so close to a 5 star spot, but they cut some corners and the service was subpar. From the start the staff seemed a little confused and gave us the wrong menus, they then were not sure if they had certain items. The juices were not fresh and came in a container. We ordered the pastries to start as it seemed like a nice sampler, but they never came. Now even with all these issues the food we did get was very good. I got the chilaquiles which was delicious and had some great flavors. My wife got the breakfast burrito which was also very good. The coffee was freshly brewed and was a nice roast. The atmosphere itself is very nice and has some great natural light. The restaurant is in a higher end resort and has a great little bar in the same common area. Overall a great spot to try.

Layla is an elegant casual restaurant in an elegant little hotel. I had the Wagyu Steak Frites and it was one of the best I’ve had. Their fries were also the beat fries I’ve had in a long while. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, but I’d recommend sitting outside if the weather is nice to get the full experience of the hotel as a whole.

A very nice hotel / restaurant environment, shocking contrasted with the most disappointing food. We had beetroot salad, ahi tuna, halibut ceviche, lemon ricotta pasta. The least disappointing was the beetroot salad. Was the chef gone/changed? I don’t know how people say they have good food… There was a lack of salt and weird ingredients in the pasta, weird spicy sauce on the tuna (not edible and I sent it back), ceviche that’s overly cured (stomach aches as I write this). Get a new chef please. Food is really not acceptable. Our server Joe was very friendly and nice (5 stars to him). Other servers were very very loud and obnoxious… Generally recommend to avoid this restaurant. There are much better places to eat in the region.

After the reviews, my expectations were high for the layla. overall the food was nothing I’d write home about or even return if not for the great setting. We had made reservations for inside, but when asked to sit by the window were told that the tables were for other reservations. One table ended up being open the entire duration of our visit. The staff asked if we wanted avocado with the chilaquiles which ended up being a whopping $6 for half an avocado. The avocado was overripe and cut into 5 extremely uneven slices. Thank goodness for the avocado tho bc the dish would’ve been tasteless without it. The potatoes were the best part. For a $60+ meal for 2 entrees and tip, I’d expect better tasting food especially given the quantity of excellent restaurants in the area

Quaint and Upscale, Kind of Beach-style decor. Small chairs, but they hove some bench seating for bigger folks. Reasonable prices. The cocktail was delicious and well made. Sandwich spectacular, so happy I got the BLT with the added smoked salmon; so much flavor. Would change the construction of the sandwich a bit with regards to the avocado being cut better or served in a different style because the chunks I had kept falling out upon eating. It's a nice place, felt like a nice country club or golf course. The bar area looked amazing, I'd love to come back when it's busy and perhaps have drinks in the bar area where the decor was more to my liking.

Amazing breakfast place in Sonoma. Went here twice at our three day stay. Great with kids (colouring kit) and for tranquil out door seating.

Yelp
BEST breakfasts in Sonoma in the most beautiful setting (both inside and out with lots of charming, comfortable spaces)! 5-star breakfasts, hands-down. Their breakfast offerings are always perfectly executed - whether you want pancakes, traditional egg breakfast with crispy potatoes, omelettes, avocado toast, Chilaquiles, Strauss yogurt with house-made granola, etc. They are very consistent with the food quality and lovely presentation. Every breakfast dish is absolutely great, with lots of excellent sides to create your own dish. Prices are totally reasonable considering Layla is connected to the MacArthur Place hotel. Their customer service is warm, kind, professional, and attentive. We have so many favorite servers (Mingma, Monsae to name a couple) we always look forward to dining in ... plus we can walk to breakfast, which is a bonus. Coffee is strong, lots of great teas and mimosas, bloody Mary's, Micheladas, and cold pressed juices. Go enjoy an excellent breakfast at Layla! (Waaaay better than the "popular" tourist traps we have down at the plaza [downtown on the square] with terrible customer service, mediocre food, and a high propensity to price-gouge even the locals). ;) Literally the perfect breakfast spot in Sonoma.

Yelp
Valentine's Day set menu dinner 2025: The yay: The appetizers were fantastic. Crab cake was stuffed with (gasp) lots of actual crab meat. Carpaccio was thinly sliced and fresh without a hint of fishy smell or taste. Filet minion was tender and well cooked. Sauce for the fish/lobster dish was nice but felt it was could have used a a carb (pasta or grains) to complete the dish. The nay: the service was slow. Got seated over 30min past reservation time. No drinks or server came to take our dinner orders for 30min after being seated. Dessert trio was the weakest of the meals: the ice cream was sour, the mousse-like component was sweet, and the chocolate cake was bitter. Each was meh in itself and did not complement each other. They gave each table a rose at the end of the night, sweet touch!

Yelp
What a beautiful property! We made a reservation for lunch, but their brunch menu was actually still being served. We ended up ordering the Smashburger, Chilaquiles's and mimosas. Everything was great. The staff was great. The indoor dining area was beautiful. It is on the pricer side, but it is inside a luxury spa and hotel so we expected the pricing to be on the higher end. We do want to come back and check it out when the weather is warmer the patio area looked beautiful but all the patio furniture was up for the winter. As a heads up, it's valet parking only so if you don't want to deal with that, park on the street and walk onto the property.

Yelp
I was extremely excited to take my grandparents here for a Sunday brunch on a warm morning. Pulling into the driveway of the MacArthur Place, it gave off a vibe that we were about to experience a mind-blowing and luxurious brunch. After being able to avoid valet parking with my grandparents' handicap placard, we made our trek to Layla at the end of the hall of the main building. The decor and vibe of the interior was homey yet inviting which made us even more excited to see what was in store. We were seated relatively quickly down in the garden/fountain area. Unfortunately, this was the only time we were dealt with swiftly. We ordered drinks (coffees and one cocktail) and our food but what we were not prepared for was the waiting game. With the drinks, they came out in a timely manner. For food, we waiting over thirty minutes to get our dishes which included the Crispy Halibut Sandwich, Eggs Jennifer with added smoked salmon, and two orders of the Buttermilk Pancakes. While I'm seriously not one to complain about matters about timing, it was just a bit infuriating because my grandparents were complaining that they even noticed that other tables that were sat later than we were (including another party of four) and had received their food pretty quickly while we were waiting without acknowledgement from our server about what the delay was or when we could expect our breakfast. When it came to the quality of the food that was finally delivered, we were sorely disappointed that it didn't match up to the quality of the ambiance and standard we would have expected from a place as expensive as the MacArthur Place. My halibut sandwich was sad and bland in flavor. It truly just felt as if I was eating bread with something hot in the middle of it. When it came to the pancakes, we were all surprised that this place that seems to boast luxurious amenities can't even give out real maple syrup with their pancakes and instead settled with the cheap fake stuff. The smoked salmon that we added to the Eggs Jennifer was also disgusting as it tasted fishier than one would hope to find their smoked salmon. Overall, this was really a disappointing meal that we had to push ourselves to swallow. For a hotel that charges nearly $1000 per night, one would hope and assume that the quality and service of their restaurant would match the price point. We probably won't return for a little while but hope things do improve for other guests and patrons.

Yelp
Service was amazing, waitress and hostess were wonderful. The food did take a while to come out, it was a little later on a Thursday and didn't seem too busy so I don't fully understand why. However- the ambiance and drinks were great so it made up for the wait. The food was delicious, the only small issue was that there were a lot of shell pieces in the oysters which was disappointing. Overall, great experience and great food.

Yelp
This place perfect for those romamtic date nights especially their patio seating. The food was delicious and our server was very friendly and made sure that we can get out on time for the concert we are attending.

Yelp
Layla is tucked away in the gorgeous MacArthur Place Hotel. It's a spectacular property and less than a 15 minute walk from Sonoma Square. We had our dog so we sat on the patio and all of the staff were so friendly to him. We were served a delicious amuse-bouche of yellowtail hamachi that melted in your mouth. All of the starters were super tasty, including oysters with perfect mignonette. We ordered drinks at the same time as our appetizers and they came out after we finished them which was really the only con of our evening. As the sun went down, the twinkle lights came on and the Layla team was quick to turn on heaters by request. We loved the duck and tortellini and the dessert was spectacular. After we finished our meal, we ordered another glass of wine so we could relax and enjoy the scenery. Loved it here and will definitely come back the next time we're in Sonoma!

Yelp
Great breakfast and ameeting new friends!! Breakfast time!!! Yay! Parking: Valet only! So parking should not be a problem. A nice tip for job well done! Food: The food was good. We had the pancakes, it came with the berry compote, Fresh Whipped cream, and maple syrup. We also ordered the Avocado Toast, which was a largely stacked toast with Avocado, smoked salmon, salad, etc. We also ordered the Breakfast Plate with Chicken Sausage. The breakfast was altogether pretty good. Sad face: After I ordered I learned that they didn't have anymore of the square hashbrowns. So I ended up with the regular ones. They were still good, a bit burned but still your typical hashbrown. Service: Service was great! Our waitress was nice. You can tell your food was fresh, because it takes a bit of time to come out. In essence, the food and service was great, but don't go if you want to get in and out. If you have time to spare, the go for it for sure!

Yelp
10/10 the best dining experience I have ever had. Reservations were made via Open Table which is always so easy. Locating Layla is super convenient as it is located within the MacArthur Hotel. For scene set up, my husband & I are there to celebrate our anniversary (10 years together, 7 married) & we are already so giddy to be here. Upon entry we are greeted by the most gracious people on earth; people who clearly work here but have nothing to do with our evenings adventures, they are just being kind! It was incredible & it was noted. Upon being seated right away, Lexi (the sweetest & best server) immediately brought us over two glasses of champagne & & congratulated us on our anniversary. While I was the one who informed the location of the celebratory occasion, Layla going the extra foot to bring the champagne & make us feel extraordinary right out the gate was something else. It really is the little things that set places a part - & you did it! The menu is written very well. Everything is labeled with ingredients, whether the dish caters to vegetarians or vegans, each dish is clearly identified. Lexi also asked us if we had any food allergies that they should be aware of. This was a wonderful & thoughtful touch, more places should do this. Not sure if we just got lucky, if Lexi was having as much fun as we were, or if the stars were in our favor this night, but one of the coolest thing thats ever happened in our dinning experience took place; The chef brought out a small tasting of a dish for us to try. We did not order it, he just made it & brought it to us! It was a new dish that Chef was testing out (although only brought to our table this evening ;) ) It was delicious! We felt so special this night, & I really hope Leyla knows it. Everything we ordered had the most beautiful presentation & perfect portions. Appetizer : Lamb meatballs (3) Main: Tortellini. They are so creamy & melt in your mouth Main: Duck Breast, was to die for. My husband & I cannot wait to return. This service is some of the best I have experienced in years, Layla should truly be so proud of everything they are doing. If you have not made your reservations yet, you need to. & If I could give 10/5 starts, I absolutely would. Tell Lexi & Chef we said hello (& thank you)!

Yelp
We came back. This place is amazing. I came back to celebrate valentine's with my spouse . As always the services is amazing, everybody is so friendly specially our waiter Pedro. He is very professional, friendly, always smiling and offering the best choice from the menu. Food is amazing, good quality, taste and presentation. The ambience in the restaurant is like you were eating at home.

Yelp
Had to wait an hour with reservations. Service is poor, water glasses not filled, food is good and the restaurant is very nice!

Yelp
For lunch on a cloudy and cool Saturday, I decided to sit inside. With all the windows it feels like you're outside. (See pic). I ordered Eggs Layla with hash browns and smoked salmon. Came out with salad instead of potatoes and, come to find out, no salmon. I asked Pedro for a side of potatoes, so I got both sides! The manager, Henry?, stopped by. He agreed to take the salmon off the bill--I didn't want any more food. Needless to say, the service was first class. Food was fine.

Yelp
We really enjoyed brunch. Delicious, excellent quality, and good value for a "fancier" place. On a gray, rainy Saturday, the dining room was bright and cheerful. The decor is lovely and understatedly elegant. Our server was great -- other staff felt a bit young and inexperienced. (For example, coming back multiple times to get the check when we hadn't put our card down). But all good! Will return for dinner.

Yelp
A friend and I had dinner Saturday evening and overall, it was good. Some plates were absolutely fantastic and others left much to be desired. I'd give it 3.5 will go back but there is room for improvement. Let's dive in. The MacLemon Martini was divine. I'd pop into the bar just for one of those and a little bite. My friend ordered an espresso old fashion. It wasn't right but that was our fault for explaining wrong. But for what it was, she said it was very good. We also had a bottle of Chablis and it was fine. Nice, light and easy to drink and worked well with our food. We ordered: Ahi Tuna - DELICIOUS! Chicken Liver Mousse - DELICIOUS! Roasted Bone Marrow - Very good but the bones had almost no marrow. Tomato Salad - Not good. Balsamic had an over-reduced/sticky texture and taste and the tomatoes were "mealy". I wouldn't order this again. Gemelli - I liked the texture of the pasta but the menu said "Corn cream, patty pan squash, corn and squash blossoms". It had summer squash and zucchini, some sort of under reduced and unseasoned soupy sauce and Italian parsley. No squash blossoms, The entire dish was lacking any seasoning at all. Would not order again. (they really missed the mark on this. I was really looking forward to this and it was a let down) Branzino - I didn't try it but my friend liked it. Strawberry Panzanella - Friend loved it, it wasn't for me. I found it odd. Coconut Tapioca - It was good. Weird at first but good overall. I'd order again. The staff couldn't have been more friendly. Overall a wonderful evening with a few "skip it" items. One big turnoff was that it was still about 75 degrees and they turned on overhead heaters full blast. They wouldn't adjust because a table had children. (so everyone had to deal with heaters for 1 table's children. Sorry, if you're children are cold, go inside) I found that absurd. We had to fry because children were there. We did end up having to move to finish our drinks. The heaters were that hot.

Yelp
It was a special occasion and we had decided to go to Layla's. We were a party of seven, two of which were young children. The decor was very pretty. Sadly, service was very slow. After 45 minutes the kids meals and appetizers arrived, one (the seafood risotto) was cold and had to be sent back. After being sat down for almost 2 hours, the main courses finally arrived. All of them were cold. At this point we just decided to leave. One of the employees told us the system/wifi was down. My friend checked the WiFi and it was fine. But, if the system/wifi was down, how should that affect the quality of the food? Also, no one told us or came over to explain the wait. They kindly offered to give us the food on the house, and we tipped the waitress. So we brought the food home, but we hardly ate it. The branzino was small and greasy, plus the filet and pork had a lot of fat. One of them belonged to a child. Won't be coming back.

Yelp
The restaurant and outside patio is beautiful. It was spacious, lots of greenery, enough shade for everyone. Please note the menu has changed drastically, they have a new chef and I wasn't aware of this until I got there. When we originally came we wanted to try so many different things but they didn't have any of them available. The food was OK, I felt like the original menu would've been a lot better, more savory options. I believe I ordered a scramble, nothing really stood out. The service was amazing, our server was very attentive and was very kind.

Yelp
Our server, Alexis, and the F&B Manager, Rafael, really went above and beyond to make our dining experience a memorable one. They were so friendly and accomodating, I honestly can't remember the last time I had service to that level of hospitality. We ordered the oysters, bone marrow, duck breast and sirloin. All of the dishes were very good, although the duck breast was slightly over cooked. Ambiance was nice (we sat outside), busy not overly so. Would recommend for a nice date night or celebration.

Yelp
We had such a lovely brunch here for my birthday! They made it really special for us with champagne and a beautiful cheeseboard. The ambience is lovely. Salads were big portions, everything so fresh and perfect.

Yelp
The service was great, the ambiance is beautiful and the food was solid. I enjoyed the fact that it wasn't super busy so we could have a great meal with great conversation. I would recommend the burger- it was delicious!!

Yelp
The restaurant is beautiful. The outdoors was lovely until the bees swarm. Several people (us included) started outdoors and retreated indoors because of the bees. The staff was quick to assist with the move and were very friendly. There was a bit of a miscommunication on the coffee and we asked if they had flavored creamer and were told yes only to discover they had syrup and regular cream. Also, asked and ordered a white mocha only for them to only have regular mocha. They tasted okay but were not what we ordered. The avocado toast was good and the bread was delicious. Benedict was pretty standard but the eggs were over done and not runny like a typical Benedict. The hashbrowns were the star of the show, by far. French toast was spiced perfectly and the compote was tasty. Layla was a fun brunch place and I would recommend based on the hashbrowns alone.

Yelp
4 stars for the cutest brunch, beautiful venue, and perfect service. Venue: In a super cute hotel (MacArthur Place), complimentary valet, and abundant street parking. The decor is goals, I hope one day my house looks like this! Service: Friendly, checked on us just the right amount. Food: Tasty - LOVED my burger. Wished the brunch menu was more extensive! AWESOME: * MACARTHUR BURGER ($25) - 5 stars: Juicy, tasty, and so satisfying - on the freshest brioche bun. The best part were the cubed hashbrowns, so crunchy salty and delicious! You have the option for this, garlic fries, or a salad. * KIDS BURGER ($12) - 5 stars: They loved this and the fries (standard), but gosh what a great deal for essentially an adult portion (without the fixings). * KIDS GRILLED CHEESE ($12) - 4 stars: A solid grilled cheese though nothing special. Extra points because we ordered it with fruit, and it came with an ENORMOUS bowl of blueberries and strawberries. * COFFEE ($4) - 4.5 stars: So strong, and unlimited pours. Amazing! * BLOODY MARY ($16): Friends said this was delicious, I did not try. GOOD / OK: * LAYLA BENEDICT with SMOKED SALMON ($19 +$7) - 3.5 stars: Pretty good, mediocre salad. * TEQUILA COCKTAIL - 3 stars: Strong and beautiful, but not balanced.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place when we were in wine country, just before we were heading to a wine tasting reservation at a winery. We were also our two year old son and a friend visiting us. The service and the food were both great. the ambience was amazing and, the backyard had fall colors on the trees. We would go there again any time.

Yelp
This was my first time in Sonoma and I am glad my friend found this place!! The restaurant is inside the hotel lobby. Nice staff and beautiful decor inside, with a romantic ambiance. Delicious food! I would order the chilaquiles every time. The best I have ever had. The breakfast plate was simple yet everything flavour wise was on point. Great drinks too! The drinks were $17 and the food was $19. Can't believe the food was only $2 more than the drinks were. I would come back.

Yelp
Update December 2023: We had a nice experience for dinner here. The tortellini special was tasty - butternut squash in a broth. The salmon dish was excellent - one of the most delicious in recent memory. Overall it's just a very nice dinner experience.

Yelp
The decor and the place is beautiful and very soothing ambiance. Food was very well crafted, well-portioned and just right to our brunch tastes. Service was the highlight of this place - I'm coming back!

Yelp
Date of Visit: 5/20/2023 One of the best brunch restaurant in Napa Sonoma area! Layla is located inside MacAuthur Hotel near Sonoma Plaza. Layla opened in 2018 with inside and outside fountain and patio seating. 2021 Brick & Mortar Vin Petillant $18 Sparking wine with 51% Pinot Noir and 49% Chardonnay. 2019 Topophilia Dijons $21 With the smell of leather and classic pinot noir taste on the palate. Bee's Breeze $17 My brunch cocktail with gin, lemon, and honey. Layla Benedict with Smoked Salmon $26 I got the smoked salmon Benedict with salads, ane there are option of hash browns instead of salad. Steak & Eggs $22 Highly recommend the steak and egg with 10oz flat iron with eggs in any style. The steak cooked medium was thick but tender and juicy! At this price point definitely worth the try! Olive Oil Pancakes $15 My friend got the olive oil pancakes with berries.

Yelp
Gorgeous place! Food was great! Chilaquiles was perfectly cooked. Still crispy and saucy but not soggy! Best chilaquiles I've had. Service was amazing! Only valet parking but there is plenty of street parking nearby! Have recommended to my friends. Will be coming back again!

Yelp
What an amazing discovery to find this restaurant so close to downtown Sonoma we had tried all the local restaurants near the plaza and wanted something off the beaten path. There's valet parking for free and the property of the hotel is luxurious and friendly to visitors. The food at the restaurant was amazing, we had the price fix special for $75 a person and we got so much food including the ribeye steak. Great drinks menu and of course wonderful wine selection. You can't go wrong here.

Yelp
Still remember coming her three years ago and so glad I got to have their fried chicken sandwich which we split with a BLT. The winner was the maple syrup smoked thick bacon with fresh tomato's and avocado. The thing was super tasty along with the fried chicken sandwich. Valet parking only and the outdoor seating area is beautiful and calming.

Yelp
Excellent ambiance, good service and great menu. During warmer weather I recommend the patio.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance, service, and desserts!!! Food was average. We made a reservation at Layla for 5 at 1 PM on Sunday, and when we arrived there were some people in the patio but no one indoors. The restaurant space is beautifully decorated and has a lot of seating space. The brunch menu was limited so most of our party got the halibut sandwich which was so flavorless unfortunately. However, we ordered one of each of the listed desserts and they didn't disappoint - so fresh and flavorful that we forgot about the food but if you're going for the food, go prepared for not very flavorful food. It's a spot with great interiors, average food, great drinks and amazing desserts, still makes for a good time and I would recommend trying if you're in the area!

Yelp
The ambiance of this restaurant is incredible; the decorations and setup of everything are beautifully Feels very clean, warm, open, and bright- I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The drinks were also bright and refreshing, I loved the Moscow mule. The food is fresh, with this "farm to table concept"- all of it is locally sourced and organic. I ordered the truffle fries as a side and thought they were perfectly crisped and seasoned. I also ordered the crab cake Benedict as my breakfast dish, but was not overly enthused about it. The hollandaise sauce was thin and broken, and the crab cake itself was all breading. Menu is pretty small, don't expect many options for brunch. I wouldn't return here, unless for drinks and the atmosphere!

First time visiting Layla's and we loved it! Our server was amazing and checked on us frequently. The dining room feels like a perfect size and is nice intimate setting. I got the scallops and they were delicious and perfectly cooked. The mushroom risotto was awesome and filling. I thought it would be smaller since it said small plate, but it felt like a good normal serving size. The churro dessert was probably my favorite. We all loved our food here and the dining experience!

Yelp
A lovely brunch spot. We we were hungry and just getting in to town so we stopped here to eat before wine tasting. I didn't want breakfast and was excited about the Halibut Sandwich. We didn't find out they were out of them until we ordered so a bit disappointed as this could have been stated when we were seated. My husband ordered Avocado Toast and I ended up getting the burger and fries. We both ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio. The food was delicious and the service was good. The cost was the same as we paid at dinner and both got protein.

Yelp
We stayed at MacArthur Place recently so ate at Layla twice. I will be reviewing the hotel itself separately next! Definite pro: if you're a guest at the hotel, text the concierge line to help you make reservations. I couldn't find any on OpenTable when I checked for both of our meals and the concierge was able to secure reservations quickly. For the quality of the hotel, I would expect a much better restaurant. With this being pretty much the only actual restaurant at MacArthur Place, the quality of food here actually makes me want to stay at the hotel LESS in the future which is unfortunate as we loved our hotel room otherwise. Dinner: - Oysters - husband liked them. Not a fan of oysters so I didn't eat. - Asparagus risotto - wow, SO bland. It seemed like there was no seasoning. It really could've used some salt and white pepper. The only taste of the risotto came from the small amount of egg yolk drizzled over it. I've never seen risotto look so white! The cooked smaller pieces of asparagus mixed into the risotto were good but wow, the longer pieces in the center were completely RAW - like crunchy raw asparagus. I was totally shocked that it wasn't cooked. It tasted awful. The menu also said purple asparagus. We were served definitely green asparagus. Definitely would never order again and DO NOT recommend. - Game hen - overall tasty and nicely cooked. The meat was soft and tender, skin nicely flavored. I did not expect to be served an entire small game hen though (think costco rotisserie chicken but small sized). It was really hard to cut and for a lady, it was near impossible to eat this without using your hands (which for a nice restaurant, I would rather not). Despite the well-cooked meat, because the small size of the hen with a ton of bones, I felt like I didn't actually get much meat so not super worth it for $38. Sauce was initially great after the bland risotto but then ate salty halfway through. - Porchetta - the better entree of the two. We just came back from Germany and this dish reminded us of a German pork knuckle. Outside skin was crisp up perfectly and actually did not eat oily. It is a fattier cut of meat with collagen so be prepared as it does get overwhelming the more you eat though. - Dessert - trio of ice cream. Loved that these are homemade. They had the lemon gingersnap, fig, and dulce caramel. All were separately very good and enjoyable but together, the 3 flavors did not match at all. It was very strange on the palette to be rotating these. Weekend Brunch: - Best thing - the olive oil pancakes. Comes with a lovely whipped creme fraiche and berry compote. Small portion for the price though. - MacArthur Burger - absolutely did not feel like a half pound burger. Felt veryyy small. Nothing special. - Steak & eggs - just really not worth it at all. The steak was tiny and overcooked. Do not recommend. Service: overall lovely and sweet front of the house and waiters/waitresses. Our waiter for dinner in particular was super helpful.

Yelp
Stopped by here for brunch and loved it. It's part of the McArthur Inn hotel - I wasn't staying there but was able to walk in. They have both inside and outside seating available. I got the Naked and Famous cocktail - it was good and strong, if you like mezcal - I would definitely recommend trying it. My friend got the skinny marg, which was well balanced as well. We decided to share the Breakfast Omelet and it was great. The potatoes were so good and crispy as well as the bacon was thick and wonderful. The service was good and fast. I would definitely go back if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Had an amazing time with the bachelorette crew. Ricardo took amazing care of us and made sure we felt special. He brought us the tartine to try and man! The description doesn't do it justice, cause it was so good!!! I ordered the Chilaqueles and hashbrowns....and it was delicious!!! I also got the garden spritz and it was so refreshing! Highly recommend this cute, trendy restaurant in Sonoma.

Yelp
Went to Layla on Saturday night for dinner. We ordered the special, which was the whole branzino, scallops, and the lamb meatballs with the best Sardinian couscous. The drinks were delicious. I returned on Monday for breakfast and the food didn't disappoint. We ordered French toast, the breakfast special, and the omelette. All were very good the price are very reasonable for the quality of the food. Service was great on Saturday for dinner. The breakfast service was a little strange as the waitress coursed out our food for breakfast. I have never had this happen before. The manager did check in on us and let us know she was making our order ASAP as this isn't the standard practice. I would highly recommended this place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Great staff and great food.

Yelp
Beautiful modern cozy outdoor patio dining behind the hotel. 3.5 stars for lunch The pictures of the food seemed really interesting, but we were only able to snag lunch reservations on late notice, and the brunch/lunch menu seemed a bit limited. We had the Kale Caesar Salad which was refreshing. It was $17 though, and to add 4 pieces of shrimp it was $11 on top of that! A solid kale caesar, but definitely not worth $28 Other than 2 salads, the lunch options were literally a turkey sandwich, falafel burger and burger.... We had the falafel burger which was okay in flavor, but in terms of texture it was too mushy, which is often the problem for a vegetarian burger. Fries were great though - reminded me of in and out fries which I mean as a compliment ! There were more breakfasty/brunch options than lunch options. Overall, really pretty backyard patio but we came for the wrong meal I think.

Yelp
We had a girl's brunch planned at Layla Restaurant, and the vibe was magical. Note that there's valet parking since the restaurant is conjoined to a hotel including a separate bar lounge (that looks super chic btw). The service was impeccable from start to finish. The food was fresh quality, but some items lacked sabor. Overall, the outdoor seating in the garden near the water fountain makes for a perfect outting. What's not to love!

Yelp
I cant say enough about Layla at MacArthur Place! My mom and her partner went to Layla for their anniversary as they had been spending the weekend in Sonoma. They were staying at a different hotel and didn't have the best experience, so they needed a special evening to restore their spirits. The team at Layla gave them more than they could ever imagine! My mom said the food was out of this world, and that it was the most decadent meal she had ever experienced. The Executive Chef and service team went above and beyond to make their evening special, acknowledging their anniversary, providing top notch service, and crafting food and beverages that blew them away... even paying attention to dietary restrictions and creating food and beverages that honored their needs. I have eaten at Layla myself and had an amazing experience with delicious unique dishes and quality service, so I was happy to send my mom there for her special night. I just didn't imagine how incredible the staff would be to make their evening truly unforgettable. Thank you Layla team - you better believe I will be back and keep recommending you!

Yelp
Layla is awesome. We stay at MacArthur Place a couple of times of year, so Layla is an easy and obvious good choice for us. The food is flavorful and presented well. The ambiance is cozy and beautiful. The staff pleasant and helpful. I recommend Layla to anyone coming to Sonoma--whether they stay at the hotel or not. My husband and I came for our anniversary in 2021 when our son was four months old. I was a new parent and so stressed out (our son was with us on the trip). Layla staff could not have been more accommodating and reassuring to me, and I will always remember this. When my son was a bit fussy, they checked on me and him, someone came to check on me as I paced around with him, and they made sure I was able to eat my food. Thank you, Layla!

Great service ... found this place after other reservations fell through. We were treated to kindly by our server Lexi and everyone there. Food was great. Outdoor patio was beautiful. Highly recommend.
