"Layne’s, a College Station chicken strip restaurant that’s developed a cult-following of Texas A&M University graduates, will soon arrive in the Houston area. The chain is set to open its first Houston-area outpost sometime this summer. The chain is known for its crispy fried chicken tenders, which are served with a variety of dipping sauces or tucked into sandwiches." - Amy McCarthy

We had the spicy chicken fingers extra crispy, butter on both sides of the toast, extra crispy fries no salt it was so delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the drink I ordered the lemonade the water used for it was horrible. Other than that the service was great and the restaurant was very clean.

Layne's is really great. I'll be honest it took me a long time to come around because I really like Raising Cane's, but over time I came to understand what makes Layne's unique and worth it. I had only been to their storefronts in College Station before I went to this one in Houston, and I'm happy to say this location was really great! It was clean and the food was just as good as what I had in College Station. For me, the standouts at Layne's are their ranch and their "Layne's Sauce." Their ranch is amongst the best I've EVER had and it pairs so well with the chicken and fries. What I like so much about the Layne's Sauce is how overwhelmingly peppery it is. But I say this in a good way—it's a flavor I've come to love from them. The toast and fries have also always been fantastic! For me, it's really been those sauces that keep me coming back because it makes them unique versus Cane's and the like. But don't get mistaken, everything overall is great at Layne's and they are definitely worth a stop!

Google
Used to be very good. Now i don’t know what happened with the size of the chicken. Literally half the size of the chicken. Please fix this. Basically got nuggets for the price of tenders.

Google
Me and my dad went to laynes and it was super good! service was really good and Surah was very helpful in giving us recommendations and very nice overall the food was awesome i HEAVILY prefer the chicken here as canes chicken is just very bland and just white while here they have some seasoning on the chicken the fries were very crispy and perfect length and width and the sauce selection was A1 (one of canes biggest flaws is not having enough sauces) the toast was amazing aswell. 10/10 will be going again

Google
Cashiers were super nice and very helpful Gave us an extra finger when we ordered 2 and stopped by our table asking if we needed anything. Also ordered a shake and it came out so fast we had it by the time we finished ordering. Great food great service and it’s our first time eating here, would come again.

Google
These are hands down the best chicken fingers I’ve ever had! They easily beat Cane’s. I especially love that they offer spicy chicken tenders, packed with flavor and absolutely delicious!

Google
Truly amazing chicken fingers, like the best you will ever have in your life, but ONLY during the night shift. Whoever works the night shift needs serious kudos because they make the best Layne's chicken fingers I have ever had out of any location. Consistently juicy, hot, fresh, amazing. Chicken fingers out of this location in the daytime are kind of blah unfortunately. They taste lukewarm like they've been sitting out and are also pretty soggy

Google
I am updating my review on this location. Originally I had them s 4 star because I felt the portions weren't worth the price. We have started eating here quite often and I have to say that I have never had a meal served to me here that wasn't hot, tasty, accurate, and served with a friendly staff. The portions vary somewhat by visit as its chicken tenders (so sometimes they are larger than other). In general though the 3 piece tender which is what I usually get is a nice amount of food and I rarely leave still feeling hungry. The food and staff are excellent - and the location is spotlessly clean every time I visit. I was there this week and want to highlight Jose Chavez - as he was the one who took my order, served the order, and followed up to make sure my son and I were happy with our food. Stellar service and food - and I am now a loyal customer for this location whenever I am in the mood for chicken! Keep up the great work at Layne's Chicken Fingers!

Yelp
I have been a big Canes guy ever since they came out. I can't believe I had never heard of Laynes. I tried it the other day and omg. The spicy tenders are to die for as they are delicious. They don't give you a small piece of bread they give you a big piece of Texas toast. The fries were good too and the sodas come in a funny cup. It states given you the finger since their inception date. Funny. The service was great and friendly, the food was delicious and it was even cheaper. The tenders are short, fat and juicy. Love Layne's I may never go back to Canes. Facts

Yelp
I wish I can provide a 4.5 for this. Of course we are going to compare it to Raising Cane's. Laynes chicken, fries, and sauce are better. I appreciate the to go cups and napkins that are provided here. And their service is hella great at Laynes. The reason why I bring it down a bit is because the portion sizes are small compared to the price. Portion sizes for the fries, chicken, grilled cheese, chicken wrap, etc are smaller.

Tan N.

Yelp
Man oh man I cannot wait till laynes has more locations because their chicken was AMAZING Super super tender and flaky and super crispy outside Their chicken actually has flavor without sauce compared to canes Their signature sauce was also different in flavor More tangier than canes but I liked it The chicken was the start of the show they also offer gravy which was nice but I preferred the signature sauce I can't wait for more closer locations

Matthew C.

Yelp
Layne's is a College Station Texas A&M classic, but unfortunately it's still mid for me. The chicken tenders I got were pretty small, and also dry and lacked any good flavor. It's hard to review this place without comparing to Cane's, and I think both the chicken and Texas toast are better at Cane's. The Layne's Sauce is more peppery than Cane's sauce, but has decent flavor and their fries are pretty good as well. The interior has cute TAMU-themed and College Station-themed decorations which improve the vibe overall, but I'd still go to Cane's for the better food.

Joel C.

Yelp
I have only ever eaten at Cane's. I heard that this place was a competitor. I gotta say... when it comes to original, I still prefer canes, but this place has some very very good spicy tenders. I loved the spicy and I really like the variety of sauces available here. If I was in the mood for a tender with a little spice, I would be here for sure. It did not disappoint. Food was good. Sauces were good. And the shake was pretty good. I liked this place and would definitely come back. Service was pretty quick and friendly. And the place was clean and welcoming. I like Layne's just as much as any Cane's I've been to. Good place to get a quick meal!

Alex N.

Yelp
Layne's is just like Raising Cane's. I got the chicken fingers with a side of sauce and it was amazing. The chicken was great, super flaky and juicy while not being too oily. The sauce was more tangy than Raising Cane. I'd come back.

Angee A.

Yelp
The food here is decent. It's not as good as Cane's but it's a good substitute for anyone who only eats halal. The tenders are never as plump and juicy as Cane's and sometimes they're about the size of my pinky finger, no kidding. They do have a spicy tenders option and that's a nice change. One thing I do not recommend is the wrap. I thought I was being healthy by ordering it, but it was awful. I wish I knew that it was served cold. It tasted like something you'd get at an airport or convenience store. The vegetables' freshness were questionable. Brown lettuce? No thanks. It was just bad and kind of pricy considering it was pretty small. Never again. Stick to the tenders.

Iman Z.

Yelp
I would say this place is pretty comparable to Cane's. The spicy chicken was seasoned well and the fries were good. I personally did not like the piece of toast. Not my favorite type of bread especially since it just felt greasy. I've also had better side sauces. Overall I would go again but maybe try the sandwhiches since I did see they had beef bacon on the menu.

Yelp
Just as good as I remembered! Definitely try the jalapeño ranch, not too spicy but the flavor is there!

Kacy G.

Yelp
Layne's completely puts the smack down on Canes.. 10/10 highly recommend!! food is very well seasoned & their sauces are very good!

Mongile N.

Yelp
Adrianna is awesome! She's full of energy , sweet and great at doing her job! We need more positive people like this. Thank you for your wonderful service Adrianna !!!

Taha J.

Yelp
I LIVE for this sauce. Make sure you get the spicy chicken sandwich. Staff recommended the jalapeno ranch that was a nice touch as well

Vivian M.

Yelp
finally reunited with laynes! my first taste of their tenders was at the original location in college station. im glad they've expanded into the houston area now! their tenders are crispy and well-seasoned! we went for the spicy option which was super flavorful. the best part is their sauce options! my personal favorites were the layne's sauce and ranch. and to wrap up our meal we got the oreo and strawberry milkshakes - a sweet treat and the perfect way to finish our meal! staff was friendly and our order came out quickly! what we got: - the 5 finger original - the club sandwich meal - oreo milkshake - strawberry milkshake ig: @whatsviveating

Yelp
Really Good Chicken I ordered a family dinner and I did it through the Layne's App because it's like $8.00 cheaper through the app instead of through Yelp. Food was delivered on time and it was warm and soooooo good. The portion was as advertised. My wife said she prefers it to Kane's. The consensus was to keep it in the rotation.

Detra T.

Yelp
My experience is always great here at Laynes! Antonio helped me with my order. He went above and beyond to make sure I got my points on the Laynes app to get the 3 finger meal combo. All the staff here is amazing haven't had an issue here and the food is always hot fresh and delicious! Thank you Antonio and all the staff at Laynes that work hard and provide great customer service !

Kashara B.

Yelp
Don't be a chicken! Try the newest chicken place in Katy Texas @layneshouston They hatched in 1994 and is currently opening in a city near you! Their special sauce have me in a tasty chokehold ! The atmosphere is family friendly and they have the "good" ice! What more could you ask for? The staff is nice and very welcoming ! Order: The 3 Finger Meal with a Oreo Milkshake

Breanna K.

Yelp
This might be my new favorite place! Everything was so good. Employees were polite and friendly. It was so clean and bright. Had a great first experience and I'm excited to go back soon.

Justin T.

Yelp
I'd been to the Layne's in College Station before, but it was great to try out their new Katy location and make a judgement on Cane's vs. Layne's. For me, the victor is Layne's. Layne's is almost best described as Cane's with seasoning. Great seasoning on the fries, which are easily Cane's weak spot, but it Carrie's over to the tenders and the Texas Toast. I did wish that Layne's had a cole slaw offering. It reduces some of the shame from an outing like this. Hope to see more Layne's in the Houston area in the future!

Majic S.

Yelp
This is my go to spot. Fresh and delicious chicken. Love the service by all the staff and special thanks to Adriana.

Matthew P.

Yelp
I'm always down for chicken tenders and trying out various places. Unfortunately I've never had Layne's in College Station so it was good to see them expand here. I enjoyed the seasoning on the chicken as it had good flavor, the fries were fries and toast was toast. I got the spicy tenders which had a good kick and I paired it with jalapeños ranch which gave it an ever more cook. I didn't know this was an option since until I got there since it's not updated in their website so now you know. I think the jalapeño ranch would be better paired with regular tenders instead spicy. I will saw the sweet tea just wasn't there. It was the sweetness level but it was yea brew itself. I would hope it would have been something that stood out like canes or chick fi la but not so much. I'm not saying it should be like those places but it should have a taste that make people go oh yea I want Layne's chicken and sweet tea. I will say the fires portion were on the light side compared to any place just wanted a little bit more. The workers were all nice and helpful that's always a +.

Johnny P.

Yelp
12/10 Service! Food came out fast and hot! Store manager Abu was very helpful and made the experience memorable! The place was clean and well kept! Recommend this spot for all of your catering needs and you will be taken care of!

JaQuille C.

Yelp
Is it possible to do a review and not refer to C*nes? Let's try. So happy that Layne's is expanding! What a pleasant surprise to see them in Katy. I first tried Layne's back in 2012 while visiting College Station. Personally, some of the best chicken strips from a chain. I had the 4 finger meal, extra sauce (trust me you'll want it), and a strawberry shake. Ran me about $12. Worth it. I'll definitely be back. Location - right next door to Halal Guys, down from La Centerra Food - came out nice and hot within 5ish minutes. Their sauce is so good. While similar to you know who, it is more flavorful and peppery. Fries were nice and crispy. Chicken had a good crunch and pulled apart so delicately (can't believe I'm talking about chicken like this ). Milkshake was so sooooo good. Texas toast was good as Texas toast gets ‍ lol Did I succeed in not mentioning you know who? Not really but I promise I did my best . Anyways, please just go. You're welcome.

Diane P.

Yelp
They have some of the best chicken tenders in Houston! Underrated! I love there spicy tenders with the bread a crinkle fry! Definitely a perfect 10 all around! Quality service, fast, and very flavorful!

Humairaa A.

Yelp
High quality chicken fingers. Lemonade is one of my favorite lemonades to get in the city. The fries are good and the Texas toast is a hit or a miss. Nonetheless it's halal and delicious. Laynes beats Canes!

Claudia F.

Yelp
Food was tasty! I recommend the spicy chicken! Service was friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself was nice and clean, the signs and decorations are funny! Will definitely be back

Enna J.

Yelp
If you've ever had 'Raising Canes' or 'Zaxby's', this is the same concept. A couple of differences is that Layne's serve milkshakes, has potato salad and uses actual Texas toast. They have a similar sauce like the competing brands but it's not as peppery which I like. Overall good food and good service.

Yasser H.

Yelp
"To Cane or to Layne? That is the question" A few friends had told me about this franchise from college station opening a new location in Katy. The setup is the same. I went with a 5 piece tender meal combo. The sides can be substituted for any other sides, as you wish. Cole slaw for bread or bread for more fries, or slaw for extra sauce etc etc. The chicken was crispy and flavored. The French fries were crisp and golden. Their dipping sauce was very good. It had a nice black peppery kick to it which I enjoyed thoroughly. That just uplifted the flavor of the tenders. I was greeted by a very friendly and cordial employee who took the order. Her name was Carolina. There were couple of other employees that came by the table to check up on me also, which was very nice and service oriented. For those that have dietary/religious restrictions, this restaurant serves 'Halaal' certified food. I plan on returning here. The only downside is that Cane's is only 5 mins away from my place, while Layne's was about 26. .....Yikes.

Sophia M.

Yelp
We ordered the family pack. My daughter said it tastes better than raising canes it was $44.99 and can easily feed a family of 4-6.

Areli F.

Yelp
So a friend turned me on to this place to try, since I just moved back to Houston. This place was very clean and the service was fast. I went with their 5 finger original and shared with my son. We both went for their buttery toast bread first. I should have ordered a side of it. So good! So since I didn't know anything about their sauce I was skeptical about it. I did end up loving it! All around great flavor in chicken. Next time I'm not sharing. Fries could have been better tho. They tasted like the freeze dry fries that you get at H-E-B. Other than that great place for chicken PS, they have that ice that we all love too.

Niha A.

Yelp
Okay, I can't believe I just found out about this place. First of all it's HALAL, I called to confirm!!! The BEST spicy chicken tender meal I've had (the chicken was actually spicy). We also had the club sandwich and it had (halal) beef bacon in it which, not gonna lie, made my day. The sauce is sooo good and everything is seasoned to perfection. I'm already planning to come back soon!

Ashley Y.

Yelp
Good service and hot and fresh food! Our food came out quickly, and I liked how the staff still continued to check with us to see if we needed anything. The milkshakes are sooo good!

Ashley M.

Yelp
This place exceeded my expectations! The chicken was great along with awesome service. Very comparable to Cane's. I'm happy they offer real texas toast & yummy milkshakes (something Cane's lacks). Their sauce is similar but not quite as peppery which is also nice. I will definitely be back (:

Gino S.

Yelp
Everything was great, the food, service, and price. As a chicken wing connoisseur, this place will be my new go-to spot. (Previously slim chickens). I liked the spicy better than the regular and the ranch is amazing

Jerry H.

Yelp
Just like Raising Cane's only not quite as good in my opinion. The sauce tastes like pickle juice. It's good.... But I'd rather go to Cane's. Just one man's opinion. I like the decor in the place though. Very funny.

Ayeza K.

Yelp
Ever since I switched to eating Zabihah/Halal only I've been missing places like Canes. I was so happy to see that Laynes (who has similar food) opened up and is serving halal chicken! The staff is really friendly and super patient when ordering. What I ordered: * Chicken Tenders - 9/10 Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! I've had them twice now and I'm taking one star off for the taste and crunch for last times order. The chicken tasted really off and it had no crunch. Oh well, I'll still try it again! * Fries - 8.5/10 Standard crinkle cut, pretty good! * Texas Toast - 8/10 * Laynes sauce - 9.9/10 This sauce is bombbbb. Just get it! Nice and peppery and way better than Canes sauce IMO I've heard the club sandwich and the salted caramel milkshake are really good! Deff on my list to try next!

Susy R.

Yelp
Service prompt. Super nice cashier. Clean place to eat. Thanks Regina for great experience

Samah K.

Yelp
Came here after seeing it being talked about everywhere on halal food Instagram accounts. This place was super crowded, even though we can on Sunday around 3 PM. Our food was out it minutes and it tasted great! Staff was also really nice and helpful. We got the Club Sandwich meal. Portion was huge and chicken was seasoned nicely and was very juicy and tender. I don't think there was enough sauce in the sandwich, but I asked for some on the side to compensate for that. Overall, I'll definitely stop by again when I'm in the area!

LaToya H.

Yelp
The chicken strips and fries are much more flavorful and better than Cane's. The customer service has always been excellent at this location. You must try the drive-thru, because it is so cool and awesome. It definitely brings a great and cool vibe to the restaurant. This review is for the Ella Blvd (Oak Forest) location.

Sachin N.

Yelp
June 2021. We visited this place during the second week of June and it was soft launch of the restaurant. Nobody knew about this place at the time, so everything had that new restaurant polish with no crowd, great service and clean tables. We ordered grilled chicken wrap and the five finger meal along with chocolate shake. The meal was delicious and their signature sauce added that missing flavor and punch to the chicken. The wrap was cold but had a vibrant note to it. Overall, a decent place a catch up with friends and have a bite.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Love this place. The chicken fingers are amazing. Super friendly staff. Very clean. Nice seating area. Definitely worth a try.

Otesia E.

Yelp
I decided to check this place out to see if it was better than Cane's. From the meal that I had, they definitely aren't. I placed an order for a 3 piece Spicy Tenders meal with a Strawberry Shake. The cashier went to make the shake while I waited at the register with a black screen. She came back with the shake and it was very watery. I told her that it was watery. There was a lady that had just came into work. She said that the machine doesn't work properly all the time.(sounds like the same issue that McDonalds has with their ice cream machine) A guy steps in and said that he would try to make it thicker. He comes back with the shake and tells me that it is a little thicker. He says that if I want to wait 20 mins it will be thicker. I decline and take the Shake that he tried to fix. The cashier comes back with my order and points to the credit card machine. I tell her that the screen is black. From her response, she already knew that it was broken. I asked her how much was my order and proceeded to swipe my card. She then said that it did not go thru. I swiped it again and it didn't work. She tried and it went thru on the 2nd time I think. I was confirming with her to make sure that my order was spicy and she responded, "I think so" ook! I left to go back to work, which is about 11 mins from the location. I open up my order and most of the fries were soaked in grease, so I ate the few that weren't. I bit into the 1st tender and it wasn't freshly made, it was dry, and not spicy. I bit into the 2nd tender and it was freshly made and spicy. I bit into the 3rd tender and it was the same as the 1st tender. I did not eat it, nor did I enjoy this meal.

Marilyn F.

Yelp
We recently tried Layne's for the first time and were very happy. General manager Abu Ahmed was very welcoming to all his customers. The chicken fingers were delicious and the fries were very hot. The location was easy to find. The eating area was nice and clean. We tried the regular chicken fingers but plan to go back soon for the spicy ones.

Nour E.

Yelp
I don't come to Layne's often, but their food and the quality of the food never disappoints. I would like to thank the friendly lady who made sure I would be happy and satisfied with my meal, the customer service here is always nice but she made my night. Thank you, and thank you to the staff in general for always providing my food warm, crispy, and yummy!

Andrea P.

Yelp
Pretty good. Wasn't a fan of the spicy, it was too spicy for me personally that I didn't enjoy my sandwich. I wasn't impressed with their sauce. Other than them having more options than their competition, there was no wow factor here. It's tenders, toast, and crinkle fries. The only difference is their sauces and spicy option.

Kumar I.

Yelp
Spicy chicken fingers So awesome. Loved it Found it way better than Canes. Also their dipping sauces were good. And Sergio was an amazing staff member. Took great care of us. Will be back again

Austin G.

Yelp
It has been brought to my attention that Canes copied Laynes. This has completely changed my perspective. Perhaps I should have done research before being so critical. Laynes, I hope you can forgive.

Asnan M.

Yelp
Good food and fries. Service is very nice. Workers are very polite. Would recommend everyone to give it a try.

Alex P.

Yelp
I love this place. Good clean simple food, done very well. Last December I went on a particularly bad binge where I might have eaten here twice a week :0

Jorge B.

Yelp
Best chicken fingers ever! The Texas toast was amazing me and my son always fight over the last piece. If you haven't try it please get out there and get the family pack it is so good and fresh we have leftovers for another meal always!
