Downtown Rooftop Bar Takes Flight This Weekend - Eater San Diego

"Layover is a new open-air lounge located on the fourth floor rooftop of the InterContinental San Diego. It features a 15-seat bar, fire pits, and plenty of outdoor seating, open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The drink menu, crafted by Jeff Josenhans, includes wine, beer, local canned cocktails, and frozen slushy versions of classic cocktails with aeronautical names. Executive chef Amy DiBiase offers bar bites such as local flounder ceviche and wagyu cheeseburgers." - Candice Woo

Definitely a must attend event. Best Frank Sinatra tribute ever. Gorgeous location, great musicians, outstanding singer! I took my daughter (a Frank Sinatra fan) and she was mesmerized by his performance. I highly recommend it

We saw Amy Winehouse (jazz tribute) Under The Stars at Sunset Terrace - the 4th floor rooftop venue at the Hotel Intercontinental. Parking downtown is awful. ACE parking across the street on Bayfront or valet at the hotel if available are best bets. We ended up valeting after many loops around the hotel without luck. Elevator directly up to the 4th floor just outside the hotel entrance made getting there easy. Venue was intimate. Sound was okay. Windy on the rooftop. Would have also been better without chatting neighbors. Why go to a live musical performance to talk? Food service has opportunity. The menu posted is misleading. Only a limited menu (pizza and charcuterie board) plus canned beverages available at music venue. Full menu downstairs on first floor. Next time, we’ll snack prior to show and drop into one of the nearby eateries post show. We went to Ruth’s Chris Streak-house for night caps, NY Strip, French fries and dessert. Everyone who worked the venue was super nice and helpful. I would go see a show here again; it was good fun. 🥂✨🎤

Great place to hang out and watch a show. The staff were helpful, friendly, and professional. We didn't have any food but the drinks were good and reasonably priced

The venue was good. Unfortunately pool that located next to it ruins everything. People at the pool don't care about keeping it quiet so it was a distraction and very noisy.

It was a fun evening. The band was very good and the atmosphere was nice. Very low key.

Did not eat, but 2 cans of Cutwater cost $30.00 and parking (across the street) at Ace was $33 for 10 hours. The only options were 2 hours or 10 hours.

The event was amazing. My fiancé and I loved everything about it. We will definitely be attending another event.

Yelp
We didn't order food but the servers all were so friendly and helpful, we had drinks and watched a great show and a beautiful sunset. The decor was nice and the location and view were to die for.

Yelp
day pass for here today was $15 plus tax. I consider this a decent price since parking is $42! I got a ride from a friend so i didn't pay that! The place is clean and of course the hotel is beautiful. I just had higher expectations for this place. i might consider coming back but I would definitely have someone drive and split the cost of parking perhaps. They validate for 3 hours if you have spent $50. Easy if I went with someone. awwww... next time!

Yelp
If you want to wait an hour & a half for an overpriced sandwich, then you'll love it here.

Yelp
I came here with friends over the weekend to check out this new rooftop bar. Layover is located on the 4th floor of the Intercontinental Hotel and they offer valet parking, but I found pakring on the street. My friends were running late, so I ordered the local flounder stuffed ceviche and the barbecue Gonestraw Farms duck buns for us to share since they were closing soon. I'm surprised the bar closes so early (8pm), but the rooftop is open all night. The menu looks like a flight schedule! Even one of my drinks had an airplane stirrer, so that was pretty neat. For drinks, we all tried the Aviation slushy cocktail. That one was pretty strong for me. I had the bartender make me something with strawberry in it, which was pretty refreshing. My other friends ordered a lemon drop and a strawberry frappe for their second drinks. The food was pretty tasty, but I wish they offered more bites on their menu. Also, the ceviche was a little too coconutty for me, but still yummy. I liked that we got to sit by the fire and enjoy the view of the waterfront. They even offered blankets, but it was pretty warm by the fire. This is the perfect spot if you want to spend a night out without all the crowds.

Yelp
I purchased a ResortPass to Layover and had a fabulous time. The pool is very clean and has ample seating. Towels are provided. The bar menu is great- we had some margaritas that were top notch and also ordered the champagne paleta cocktail. We split a cheese plate for lunch as well. Prices are on the high side but that's what is expected at a hotel bar. There is a bit of an initial push to upsell you on higher shelf alcohol etc but when we declined to upgrade further the server wasn't pushy about it at all. The servers were excellent and the view from the pool is AMAZING. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I am loving everything about the new InterContinental Hotel! Gorgeous hotel with tasty restaurants & bars, & now this rooftop bar with great views of the bay. They have several fire pits throughout to keep you warm. Head over to the bar & chat with the bartenders to find a drink right for you or try one of their slushies. They also have small bites.

Yelp
We came here for drinks just before sunset and it was lovely. There are lots of places to sit, fire pits, and heat lamps which provides for a nice atmosphere and comfort especial as it gets cooler. I had a bourbon based slushie-type drink that was delicious. The views are fantastic especially as the sun sets. This is a good place to come for happy hour or sunset drinks or to bring a friend visiting.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. The entire team at Layover is always friendly, helpful and efficient. The pool is clean, get there early enough to snag a spot, and settle in for a great pool day. Drinks and food are top notch!

Yelp
We came here for a birthday party and were expecting something a little different based on how they present the place on Instagram. Besides it being just overall kind of a boring spot, the service and food was lacking. The burger was good but everything else was not. Orders took a while to come out.

Yelp
This new location is priceless...I went to an event at LAYOVER 4th floor view bar at the new downtown Hotel Intercontinental.... and so glad I we did, I would simply love to stop by this venue for a cocktail to watch the sunset any of the perfect 365 evenings in our beautiful city...who knew? A view to the west t be sure, but the pool, the skyline to the easy, the architecture all around, GO NOW! You will not be disappointed! Fire pits, views and flawless service!

Jeff J.

Yelp
This rooftop bar is a secret gem! Viewer is a nice touch. Sunset here is AMAZING!

Lila S.

Yelp
The chips and guacamole are SEVENTEEN DOLLARS. A $1.5 dollar soda is SEVEN DOLLARS. I have never seen prices like this anywhere in my life. Unbelievable. I get that they have a view but $17 for some tortilla chips and mashed avocados is unacceptable even if you're on top of the Empire State Building.

Yelp
We just hosted our daughter's graduation party here and it was fantastic! Great service, great views and good food. I would highly recommend this spot for a private party!!

Yelp
While checking out the hotel decided to grab a late night drink and enjoy San Diego's perfect weather in November - the intercontinental's rooftop bar, layover, was the perfect spot to do so. Walked up and were greeted by the friendly Lucas, who made my brother a tasty old fashioned and a gimlet for me. He was able to give such attentive service to each guest while keeping everyone happy and entertained. Pretty cool and underrated spot, with great service, I'll definitely be back.
