We always end our meals here with a subtly sweet badam kheer or the super rich rice pudding with cardamom, almond, and pistachios." - alison kessler, candis mclean

Lazeez Indian Cuisine - Review - Bella Vista - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Bella Vista’s Lazeez Indian Cuisine has excellent plates of chicken, lamb, and beef shanks cooked in creamy gravy or a tangy ginger sauce. They also have kebabs with a great combination of spices, ranging from tandoori shrimp to the savory sweetness of chicken marinated with cream cheese. The white tablecloths and candlelight make it ideal for date night where the golden Patachitra paintings on the wall are almost as good as the food. End your night with the subtly sweet badam kheer and the super rich rice pudding with cardamom, almond, and pistachios and you’ll forget that your date was 20 minutes late." - Candis R. McLean

We were excited to try Lazeez for some Indian-Pakistani food, and they definitely delivered. Every dish was packed with flavor and felt thoughtfully made. Super tasty all around — looking forward to coming back soon!

Google
Got the Samosa chaan, cheese naan, and chana masala. The samosa chaan appetizer was very good - just a little sweet for my flavor palette. I enjoyed mixing it with the Chana masala and cheese naan though. The cheese naan wasn’t anything special, but it was good. The Chana masala was the star of the show. The spices were very balanced and delicious!! Portion sizes were generous. Everything was shared between 2 people and we couldn’t even finish half.

Google
After putting some time in doing research on this place i was really hoping it would be good, maybe even great. Unfortunately it was almost just ok but still didn’t make it that far. The food wasn’t inedible but for Indian food pretty bland. Meat to sauce/veg to sauce in vegan dishes for the prices they charge per dish is pretty insane. I’ll be sticking with Palace of Indian for my Indian grub fix from now on

Google
I ordered door dash ! The rice itself is very flavorful and not too spicy. The chicken could have been chopped smaller and more seasoned. The cucumber sauce helped. Only thing i sisnt like was there was brown stuff that i dot know what its called (cause im new to indianfood ) it was hard like a nut or something or a spice. Overall i liked the chicken biryani

The food is delicious! The place is clean & classy. The Shrimp Vindaloo is worth the $$.

My boyfriend loves Indian food, and this restaurant is our go-to. My favorite is the Chicken Tikka Masala. It’s very flavorful and pairs perfectly with garlic naan. The Chicken Biryani is also delicious, and the Goat Curry is amazing—full of flavor and spices, and surprisingly not gamey. The service is great, and the place is clean. Everything we’ve had here so far has been excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try Indian food. FYI, this restaurant is BYOB, which is a plus!

Google
We tried Lazeez for the first time last night and it has now become our new go-to. The chicken tikka masala sauce was the best we've had in Philly. The garlic chili naan was also fantastic.

Google
Food is okay, hospitality is great. Certain items they would make you pay, generally complementary or optional that we didn’t like- (1) will charge separate for water (2) will charge separately for credit card (3) will auto add tips without asking.

Yelp
Lazeez has become my go-to Indian delivery spot! The food is always prepared in a reasonable amount of time and shows up on my doorstep fresh and warm. I always start my order off with a Samosa Chaat, and it's perfectly balanced in terms of both the spice level and the textures. For my main course, I tend to rotate based on what I'm in the mood for that day. I've tried several dishes, including Paneer Tikka Masala, Vegetable Korma, and Paneer Kadai. The portions are very generous and usually last me multiple meals.

Yelp
Grabbed takeout on a Friday night: paneer saag and lamb vindaloo. I am always down to try a restaurant's version of saag. This was on the less creamy side, which I appreciated. Flavorful. Wish the bits of paneer were just a bit bigger but this was a nice choice for the saag. Vindaloo isn't my go-to, but this was pretty good. Complemented nicely but a hefty portion of rice.

Yelp
We love Lazeez! Staff are super friendly and the food is consistently great. Everything we've ordered here has always been delicious. My go to is the Baingan Bharta (I have to get it every time!) with garlic naan.

Yelp
I only visited this place once, so I may update my review later. Friendly staff and a welcoming interior. The place is well air conditioned and very clean. I sat and waited 10 min for my food. I bought the shrimp fried rice with medium spice and the cheese naan. The shrimp fried rice was delicious. It is made with basmati rice, cooked vegetables, ginger, garlic, and soy sauce. The flavors of the ingredients really came through, and I received a large portion of shrimp with my meal. The medium spice was perfect, not too hot. The cheese naan was nice and crispy. It contained a good amount of cheese. I should've bought the plain or garlic naan instead because it would've tasted better with the rice. Overall, I was satisfied with the meal. The portion was great. I had food left over the next day.

Yelp
The food was extraordinarily delicious. You can tell they have a passion for cooking We ended up having to get another dish to go home because we knew that tomorrow we would want it again. We will definitely return I already looked at the menu to see what to order on my next visit. The waiter and owner was very pleasant.

Yelp
It is a quaint neighborhood eatery but surprisingly very good, fresh food. The server was prompt and polite. The place was neat , clean and welcoming. We were seated immediately. We had chicken wings (baked & fried) each flavour- spicy and chili . Yummy Papri chaat was ok. Chilli chicken was good, fish curry very good. Goat karahi - excellent. But best was mutton biryani - it was full of flavour. Sesame naans were baked to perfection. We had a very enjoyable evening with hot fresh food. Will definitely visit again

Yelp
Garlic naan was delicious! I enjoyed my chicken tikka masala (medium spice) a lot. The curry was a good spice level and had a bit of sweetness. It was not too tomatoey which is the way I like it. The chicken pieces itself could have been a bit more tender-felt like they were a bit dry. My boyfriend got Lamb Vindaloo (10/10) spice. He enjoyed his curry and said the level of spice was probably a 7/10 for him. My other three friends enjoyed their dishes as well.

Cooper G.

Yelp
This is the best Indian restaurant in Philly. I live less than a few blocks away from two Indian restaurants but I decide to walk the 1.5 miles to this one instead. Their chicken and lamb dishes are delicious. I always leave with a stomach much more full than it should be. The servers are very kind and the food usually comes out within 10 minutes. The restaurant is never full when I dine in, which is why I'm writing this review. This place deserves to be packed every night - the food is that good.

Yelp
The Scarlet Vetter says...... I was out of town in Philadelphia. I was craving Indian food, and so I decided to try this establishment through Uber Eats, to be delivered to my hotel. I ordered Lentil Soup, Garlic Chili Naan bread, Cheese Naan bread, Lamb Biryani, lentil Papadam wafer crisps, Chicken Curry, extra rice, and Dal Makhani. I ordered extra food beyond just my dinner for the night because my hotel room had a refrigerator, and I figured I could eat some the next day. I clearly ordered extra utensils under disposable items, which you can see on the bill, and I also included a note asking for small containers of Green Coriander Chutney. The chutney came, but alas, no utensils were sent along. No napkins either! This was somewhat annoying as I was in a hotel room with no utensils or napkins in the room. However, I was able to go down to my car and get my personal "on the road" reusable set, and napkins, which I then had to use for my dinner. The lentil soup was absolutely fabulous. I had asked for it to be extra spicy hot, and the restaurant certainly delivered on that request. The lentil papadams were light, airy, and crisp. The chicken curry was aromatic and flavorful. The Naans were large and made to order. Yum. If I had known how large they were, I would have only ordered one order. I liked the lamb dish. The lamb was tender and very flavorful. However, I was plagued with shards of bone in the dish, of which I included a picture. Super demerits for that as one chunk was both large and potentially dangerous. Because the food was very delicious and so authentic, I would have liked to have rated this restaurant with 5 stars, but the lack of utensils and the bone shards forced me to downgrade the rating by one star.

Yelp
Cool place. Casual but nice byo atmosphere. Great service. Affordable prices. Really good food. The highlights for me were the samosas and the lamb biriyani. But everything tasted very good. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
I always walked passed this place after my art classes and I'm glad I decided to try it finally. The place was really empty but our waitress was really helpful. My friends and I all got lassis and shared some appetizers, we all different meals, and we all left feeling satisfied. The food was delicious. I definitely want to try some more options from them.

Yelp
Great food! Flavorful, with wonderful seasonings Service was attentive and kind given the infant in our party. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
All of the food was awesome and delivery was prompt. Seven people enjoyed every last bite.

Yelp
Aloo Papri Chaat had a bit of an old oil taste to the crispy chips; otherwise, it was okay Garlic Naan was garlicky, buttery, and hot when it came out; it could eat this all day! We had two orders for a table of five. I would get three orders next time! Chicken Tikka Masala (level 8 spicy) had a nice kick but was not unbearable for someone who could eat some spice. The chicken was nice and tender. Big chunks that were easy to cut The staff was attentive and welcoming. The AC was blasting when we arrived. They turned it down for us when we said how cold it was. As we were eating the spicy food, we almost asked them to turn it back up LOL Sadly, they don't do buffets anymore.

Yelp
We love this place! Best Indian food in the area. Never disappoints! Also the atmosphere is lovely- very elegant and staff is great!!

Yelp
We were super impressed the first time we ordered. Second time a little less. And have decided it's not worth it the third time around. They offer standard Indian and indo Chinese food. And honestly the first we ordered l, the food was fresh, appetizing, not too greasy, the taste was just right. But this last Friday we ordered the same things and it tasted stale, flavors were off and just not the same. I am hoping that they were just having an off day, but you can be th

Yelp
I wanted some Indian takeout in my neighborhood and I hit the jackpot! I ordered the Coconut Curry Chicken and Garlic Naan. Absolutely delicious! Next time, I will definitely dine in this gem so close to home!

Yelp
Beautiful interior and sweet service, but this just did NOT scratch the Indian Food itch for me. It almost seemed like they were trying to make it more appealing to Americans. I regret to say I took one bite of my chicken vindaloo and stopped there. Not to say the chicken wasn't a decent cut, BUT, I am used to Tandoor oven roasted chicken being the base of most Indian dishes, and this just had none of the martinated and baked in indian flavors I love--I tried to see if ordering the Tikka Masala would be the cure, but the waiter was able to confirm that the only thing that changes Chicken dish to chicken dish--is the sauce itself. Some people might prefer this--the chicken --plain and cubed--has not been marinated, just a plain chicken breast cut up, but it also had that weird, musky chicken taste that sometimes happens when chicken is microwaved, if you know what I mean. The Naan also, was more "bready, " and not as light and chewy as I normally love. This place was highly reccommend to me, but just not my cup of Raita, heh heh. Good clean place though and very friendly staff, so I am so dissappointed I couldn't give it more stars for authentic Indian. Maybe I just prefer the grittier street food?

Michael Y.

Yelp
this is our go to for Indian food. we've taken lots of people and everyone has raved about the food. try it

Yelp
Still hit this place up regularly. All the standard curries are still great. I have changed my usual order to their Biryanis. They ask for a heat level on biryani which I like. Lamb Biryani, Hot. Can't beat it.

Yelp
Nice cozy restaurant in south Philly. Prices are reasonable. Food is good. Hostess and ambience is relaxing

Yelp
We ordered delivery tonight and it was pretty good! I had a samosa a few months ago in NJ but otherwise I can't recall whether I have ever had Indian. My husband seemed more familiar with it. He ordered the Tandoori Chicken and I ordered the Coconut Curry Chicken. We added on samosas (my only method of comparison!), Garlic naan, mango chutney, and Gulab Jamum to try a dessert. The Tandoori chicken was our favorite! It wasn't spicy at all and had a nice char/flavor to it without drying out the meat. The coconut curry chicken had a bit of a kick to it that I wasn't expecting but I am super weak with spicy flavors. The samosas were comparable to what I had recently. The garlic naan was yummy with and without the mango chutney. The Gulab Jamum was interesting... It was like a wet cold donut? I wasn't quite sure what to make of it but it wasn't bad. I am not sure if I should have heated it up... Overall, a solid dinner! I would absolutely order the Tandoori Chicken again in the future with some Naan and I will be putting that chutney on absolutely everything the next few days since there was so much of it and it was delicious. Also: if you're ordering delivery, you can order through their website! We ordered through GrubHub and it was quick but I wish I knew there was a direct option.

Yelp
This place is very nice ! The ambiance is great and the food is so flavorful service was good. Food is made fresh. Definitely a great place to try ! I highly recommend!

Yelp
Their garlic naan put me in a poetic rapture. I could write sonnets about that delicious delicious garlic naan. Thank you.

Yelp
I called to let them know I had food poisoning after a delivery. I didn't want anything other than to let them know. Not happening. According to the manager (owner?) that couldn't possibly happen at that restaurant. Shouldn't have been a huge deal but they don't seem willing to protect their customers.

Erinn K.

Yelp
Just ordered delivery and WOW! Best chicken tikka and manchaw soup that I've ever had. Seriously, blown away by how fresh, how flavorful, and balanced everything is. If I had paced myself (it's sooo good, I ate without breathing), I might have been able to finish everything but happily, I have copious leftovers for tomorrow.

Yelp
Randomly ordered from here on a Thursday night because I was too lazy to cook. Idk how I found out about this place but saw it had good reviews and it did not disappoint. Exceeded all my expectations and desires. Literally the best Indian ever. So happy it's only an 8 min walk away. How have we not discovered lazeez yet.... This is dangerous. I'll be back soon lol. The chicken tikka masala medium spice level was perfect. Thank you to the employee who helped us gauge the spice level. Samosa was also very good but the chicken was to die for. Quick pickup service. Well packaged and came home hot. Perfect. Fair pricing too for the city. And the quality was just too notch. There's only one other place who makes their sauce this creamy and delicious and it's a place we found in Pittsburgh years ago. THANK YOU FOR FINALLY GIVING ME MY FAVE INDIAN SPOT at home here in philadlephia. I can't wait to order again.... COME HERE NOW and you better order the chicken tikka masala if you know what's good for you. That is all. Literally fire.
google avatar

Joe G.

Yelp
Ordered take out; got 10% discount for paying cash. Food tasted good. Spiciness was there, as expected from Indian food, so glad that we asked for medium spice. I'm usually great with spicy hot food, even asking for hottest or as native eaters like it, but maybe as I get older my stomach doesn't appreciate it as much. Felt a bit sluggish afterwards and next morning.
google avatar

Yelp
Perhaps my new favorite Indian restaurant in the city? Or at least in South Philly! We ordered delivery for Chicken Curry and Chicken Makhani with a side of chili naan. Delivery was quick, food came hot, & portion sizes were great. Only complaint would be they didn't label the food so we had to taste test to figure out which was which. We asked for extra spicy and they DELIVERED on that request. This was the spiciest Indian Curry I've ever had. I LOVE spice but a lot of restaurants water down the spice level - not here! Next time I'll probably go with normal spicy vs requesting extra spicy. The sauce was delicious with huge chunks of chicken. My fiance also really enjoyed his Makhani. I did originally want the chicken vindaloo, which is listed on their menu but not when ordering delivery, so I'm excited to try that next time.

Eleni T.

Yelp
This place is consistently great! Me and my roommates order from here regularly and we love everything we have gotten.

Bill S.

Yelp
A fabulous restaurant. We don't know much about Indian food. But we do know when something tastes great. By far, this was the best we have had in a long time. Not cheap. Lunch for two with a single appetizer and tea was $80. Despite the cost, we would return. Street parking was easy.

Moon F.

Yelp
The servers at 'Lazeez' were kind, and we enjoyed the tandoori dishes we ordered. Excellent job on that, Chef! The environment was great. We will return to enjoy the tandoori dishes and try other new ones on the menu. The reason we went there was to have some biryani. The photo on their Facebook page showed how the biryani should be. However, it wasn't. Sadly, many restaurants make this mistake, and we have tried many in various places. They mix chicken curry/goat curry/lamb curry with plain basmati rice and put it in a pot. When we opened the lid, the rice was mixed with the curry. It wasn't an authentic biryani! Those of us who have tried it before, we know. This is not how biryani should be. It is best to leave it off the menu if the chef is not trained to make biryani. It is a special dish, and it takes time. So, we didn't have a good experience with the biryani. If you want to try biryani, we recommend you go to 'Lime and Lemon,' which has the best biryani in Raleigh or Durham.

Juliette C.

Yelp
takeout from lazeez is always delicious. i've tried two dishes from here: paneer kadai and paneer tikka masala. both were 10/10. sometimes the garlic naan comes a little crispy which i don't love, but that's the only negative. i also like that they do a 10% discount for using cash!
google avatar

Julie W.

Yelp
Did we come on the wrong day? We ordered pickup and were so excited to try this place out. We were so disappointed in what we had - it was pretty bland and we weren't asked for a spice level so it has no spice either. The samosas were good, really the only saving grace, but unless we're starving we won't be back.
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
I ordered takeout a few months ago and had a great experience. Tonight I ordered takeout again and got about have of the serving size that I received previously - super frustrating. The food tastes good, but why am I overpaying first half the portion size I can get somewhere else?
google avatar

Maryanne F.

Yelp
This is my new favorite take out place! They are open for takeout and delivery during COVID so please order from them and support this new local gem! Their veggie samosas are the best I've had in Philly. I love spice and they have a little bite to them so non-spice lovers you might think it's a little spicy. I've also had their chicken curry, malai kofta, chicken makhani, naan, and kheer. Everything is amazing. So far my favorite is the malai kofta, but I want to try more things from their menu. I can't wait to order from y'all again!
google avatar

Pinky P.

Yelp
We ordered delivery and it cane quick. I ordered the fish masala and it was very good. However, for a 20 dollar dish, I expected more fish than the sauce and well, more in the quantity of the entire dish. We also ordered gobi Manchurian. It was good. I had put down mild but next time I will put medium. Will try the place out again.
google avatar

Mike P.

Yelp
Phenomenal - They opened for takeout and delivery on May 1st 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which was impressive. When I called in, I was curious to know their specialty, and the worker was kind enough to talk me through their favorite dishes for five minutes. After a few questions, I was guided to the Lamb Korma and it was a delight. I am a 2 minute walk, so this will easily become my go-to takeout restaurant. But if I were a 30 minute walk, it'd be twice a month easily. Update: I had the Chicken Saag on May 26th and it was amazing.

Katina F.

Yelp
Food was great def a must try if your in the area i will be coming back here for sure.
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Live in the neighborhood and love this place. Amazingly fresh and flavorful food. Great takeout, too!

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
The standard has dropped badly. Two weeks ago, I ordered Chicken Vindaloo and it was NOT vindaloo but some watery curry. It was so disappointing but I thought maybe it was a one-off because I had good food from this restaurant before. But the Butter Chicken my husband ordered today had these tiny slivers of chicken which were pathetic. This restaurant used to be good. Clearly not anymore. I will not patronize anymore. They must have a new chef. Too bad.
google avatar

Shahriar R.

Yelp
One of Best Indian food I've had! More importantly one of the cleanest restaurants I've ever been! Clean plates, forks, glasses, etc! Reasonable price!

Lisa B.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food. Sag made fresh from fresh baby spinach. Can taste the difference! Highly recommend! Be sure to order spicy if you like spice. Medium is not very spicy. An easy fix. Love this place. Will be back!
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
We've been on a mission for good Indo-Chinese and were happy to find Lazeez! My husband is from India, so he's a tough cookie to win over with local Indian food. We really like the chicken Hakka noodles and usually order 2 servings because 1 is not enough, although they aren't always consistently seasoned. The Gobi Manchurian and tandoori are decent too, although not our favorite in the city.

R. G.

Yelp
Order a few things for delivery based on the great reviews. We got dahl, chicken korma, lentil soup & garlic naan. Everything was edible but a bit of a disappointment. The lentil soup lacked depth of flavor, chicken was rubbery and the dahl was very watery. The price doesn't warrant the quality of the food. The only thing my husband and I both liked was the naan. Maybe the should just run a bakery instead. Update: They have Daal. It's on the menu and we ordered it. We are not confusing this place with another. We just don't think their food is good and the prices are a bit high for the quality. The response from the owner makes no sense.

Yelp
My friends and I visited this restaurant yesterday evening. They are open, have limited out door seating and limited indoor seating close to the front door (so fresh air does come into the place where you are sitting.) The wait staff was so pleasant and accommodating. Everyone who works there wore a mask and kept an appropriate distance. The food was amazing!!! I've had Indian food before and this food was amazing. I had the vegetable and egg fried rice which had a great kick to it. This is a must visit restaurant!

Yelp
Came here for the first time and had Iamb vindaloo, Coconut chicken curry, dal, cheese naan, garlic naan. Everything was sooo good. Neighbor gem. Also this place is a byob!

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here and it was great! So happy to have this place in the neighborhood because it will satisfy my cravings for South Asian food. Plenty for leftovers and super reasonable prices.
