Empanada dough is the foundation of this delicious house. We suspect lard is involved.
The fillings are good, but the shell is outstanding. It is thin, light and flaky, not greasy, a vehicle that is the headliner at this show. The empanadas are made ahead of time, frozen and then brought back to life in 5-6 minutes. We wondered if they would be better if they were baked as they were made in real time. If they are, they are beyond spectacular in this scenario.
We tried the steak quesadilla, BBQ chicken, chicken caprese, chorizo, egg & cheese, as well as the ham & cheese. Though all of the fillings were good, our favorite was the BBQ chicken, we think. The empanadas are not labelled to distinguish them in any way.
We wondered why this product isn't sold in grocery stores at this point. Perhaps that is the long term strategy. They are pretty expensive per unit but the quality is impressive. We didn't try any sauces as there was an additional charge. We figured at this price point that the empanadas should stand on their own. Do you buy a sauce for your pot pie or a hot pocket?
The dough here is significantly better than Maria Empanada. We are so glad we tried this place finally. It is a nice treat and definitely a splurge at the price point of $4.89 per pastry.
