California Chain Lazy Dog Has Another Dog-Friendly Houston Location in the Works | Eater Houston

"A California lodge-themed restaurant chain is opening a new Stafford spot inside The Grid, a $500 million mixed-use development, with a planned July opening and hiring of about 200 teammates beginning in May. The new location is expected to mirror its massive Cypress outpost, featuring a dog-friendly patio and a dedicated pup menu, and serving lunch, brunch, and dinner from an extensive menu that ranges from lamb barbacoa tacos to shrimp and grits." - Adele Chapin

We ended up at Lazy Dog by pure luck after realizing our original spot didn’t have a full bar—which was a non-starter for kicking off holiday break. Best pivot we could’ve made. From the jump, the hostess greeted and seated us quickly, and our server was absolutely fantastic—attentive, friendly, and on point the entire time. We started with Hibiscus Margaritas, quickly upgraded to a pitcher (zero regrets), and jumped into appetizers. The roasted red pepper hummus with parmesan crisps surprised me in the best way—really good. The Brussels sprouts and lettuce wraps were the clear standouts, an easy 10/10 and the main reason I’ll be back. Some other apps were hit-or-miss for my taste, but that happens. The vibe was relaxed and clean, with a nice buzz once the Friday after-work crowd rolled in. The manager checked on us multiple times, gifted us their house-made potato chips (Chef’s Snacks—crispy and addictive), and even gave us appetizer coupons after hearing we work at a school and were scouting a spot for a happy hour social. That kind of genuine hospitality goes a long way. Solid drinks, strong food highlights, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Lazy Dog definitely earned a return visit.

Recommend Lazy Dog Restaurant in Stafford We recently stopped there mid afternoon mid week. Generally we stay within a 5 mile radius of home to dine out. But winding up in that area and not yet having had lunch, Lazy Dog showed up on Google Maps as being near our location. Mike and I are not foodies but we insist on tasty, well prepared, and well presented meals when dining out. Lazy Dog did not disappoint. Looks like a ski lodge inside, there’s a dog-friendly patio, and service was top notch. Here are photos of our food. The homemade (in house) chips and sauce were gratis. Awesome chicken salad, tomato soup (like La Madeleine’s), best chicken tortilla soup I’ve ever had, and the comped chips - all perfect. We were offered a dessert on the house and due to my proclivity for banana pudding, we chose their in-house made offering. Yum-yum. I seldom take the time to actually sit down and review a restaurant, but this one is deserving. We can’t wait to take our friends and try some other menu items. Would love to have a Lazy Dog eatery in the Westbury-Meyerland area. But thankfully it’s only 20 minutes away at West Airport and Southwest Freeway. Give it a try!

We love this place! Its a good place for family time, lunch with customers and team lunches. The menu has a variety to choose from, something for everyone! We normally sit inside but have eaten around the fire pit a few times as a team. We purchased the seasonal DIY gingerbread house and had fun making it at home. The place is clean and the servers are great!

Google
First off, not a hot dog in sight. Not sure the story behind the name or why this restaurant is considered American food but the unique plate options will definitely have me coming back for more. Great, relaxing, cabin style atmosphere. The staff was super nice and accommodating. We placed an order not realizing it contained an alergen we couldn't eat and they quickly made it right. Thank you to the manager as well for treating us to a free appetizer and a desert coupon for being first time guest. We stopped by just to try something different, but when words gets around I believe clients will be returning for something new and delicious. If there was an award for best new concept or eatery this place would get top honors in my opinion. Looking forward to the next visit. Tip:Get the warm buttercake dessert, thank me later.

Google
Food is AWSOME!!! Service was amazing! My server Jacob was very nice, attentive, and welcoming. I mentioned that It was my first time and the manager brought me a free entree of their house made barbecue chips and dip. The atmosphere was also nice. I ordered the Steak Kabobs and Apple Huckleberry Pie with Ice cream. Both 10/10. Will definitely be back!

Google
Had a great time here! Atmosphere was great - we sat outside by the camp fire which was really nice, cozy and the chairs were comfortable. Service was top notch - Ferdinand was our server and he brought the energy and the jokes, was attentive and made good recommendations. Plus they gave complimentary chef’s chips with this delicious seasoning and coupons for meals for it being our first time. And on top of that, drinks and food were delicious - that butter cake and the Brussels sprouts especially. Great experience, wanna come back with my dog!

Google
Well, as it turns out being turned away from Agas isn't all that bad. Just come down to Lazy dog and the chicken tikka meatballs will have your pairs answered. Alongside some other great dishes it's definitely worth the dine in. Let them speak for themselves. Loved the welcome. For all your questions Jeremy was the man with the plan. He was awesome. Will come again

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An unforgettable dining experience! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the atmosphere — warm, welcoming, and with exceptional customer service. Here’s what my wife and I ordered: 🥩 NY Steak (medium rare) — Cooked and seasoned to perfection. Every bite was a delight. 🍜 Braised Beef Birria Noodles — A surprising and delicious fusion. The combination of birria and noodles with the rich consommé and cheese creates an incredibly flavorful dish. 🍰 Butter Cake — Simply heavenly! The strawberry sauce, vanilla ice cream, and hint of mint elevate this dessert to another level. A perfect way to end the meal. A special shoutout to our server Makeyla, who was kind, attentive, and clear when walking us through the menu. Also, Chef Luis came to our table to check on our food and recommended the dessert — a rare and wonderful touch! We’ll definitely be coming back. Places like this are hard to find.

Yelp
First timers here. Ordered the Bison Meatloaf, Thai Noodles, Loco Moco fried rice and Pie Tin Nachos. Our orders came out quick and tasted awesome. Highly recommend the Loco Moco fried rice. Great customer service-- Our server Jeremy was so helpful and attentive! Will definitely come back before leaving town!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our experience at Lazy Dog and would love to go again. The menu is extensive and I have zero doubt that regardless of your preferences, intolerances, food sensitivities or just what you don't and do like, you'll find a few options that suit you. I wanted to try everything, opted for the lemon grilled chicken with mashed cauliflower because I was trying to be good. It was very good and didn't taste like a "sacrifice for health" meal. The kids chicken bites tasted homemade. The pasta dishes were massive (one got chicken fettuccine Alfredo and one got Thai chicken pasta). My husband got a burger, which was bigger than his face but he managed to finish it. They have a menu where you can pick an entrée and a dessert and pay five dollars to add a cup of soup to it. My father added the soup which he said was excellent and it was a generous portion. I hope they decide to open a lazy dog in Round Rock! We need more places like this. The service was excellent as well.

Yelp
Good, not great. 3.0 - Beef Dip 1.0 - Chips, Cajun 3.3 - Quesadilla, Chicken 3.5 - Wings

Yelp
Upscale version of American diner food. Good portion sizes for the price. Can't go wrong with the chicken fried chicken. I prefer more gravy and chicken thighs but this place does it justice. We tried the French onion toaster strudel thingy and was super good. Cheesy puff pastry dipped in a French onion au ju. Oh yeah. The French dip sandwich was also good. I would not get the extra fee for the special umami fries. It's just for dips.

Yelp
Solo Lunch Diaries: Lazy Dog Edition Because treating yourself is a love language. Pulled up for my first visit and Lazy Dog did not disappoint! Started with an espresso martini (as I should ), warmed up with soup & salad, and they surprised me with complimentary house-made chips + chipotle ranch for being a first-timer. A whole experience! Shoutout to Autumn for the warm welcome and Mitch for being the BEST server--y'all understood the assignment! 10/10... I'll definitely be back again. #LazyDogRestaurant #SoloLunchVibes #EspressoMartiniGirls #LoveJonesEats

Yelp
Some of my family members and I were in Texas for a few days and came here upon the recommendation of the front desk associate at our hotel. We were seated right away and the host and hostess who first greeted us were super friendly. Our server, Edwin, was incredible - very attentive and answered all of our questions with a great attitude. The food was amazing and the price range was great considering the size of the portions. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was stellar as well - very clean and overall just fantastic. Would definitely come here again!

Yelp
We stopped here on our drive from DFW to Houston before checking into our hotel after 4 hours we just wanted something familiar and this was in our area. We decided on the lunch special basically a pick 3 option the wife had tortilla soup, chicken salad sandwich and slice of watermelon. I went for the turkey avocado bacon sandwich, salad and fries. For drinks we had the cucumber lime sparkling water. The service was on point and friendly casual business atmosphere we were served in timely manner the watermelon was fresh and yummy the sandwiches were plenty with our sides to get us fueled up and back on the road. The price was right at 10.95 a serving. Glad we choose this spot as we knew what to expect

Yelp
The cutest patio, that is dog friendly! We enjoyed that it had fans and was clean. The inside of the restaurant itself is very family & group friendly. The food was great! We received complimentary kettle Parmesan chips as our first time visit gift. So kind & gummy! We got the crispy deviled eggs. The bacon & yolk mix makes up but crisp egg itself was not our favorite taste. Very plasticity feel. Our PB&J & Black & Bleu burgers were excellent! Our waitress was good & on our drinks but when we asked for a to-go box & drinks she popped off with an attitude and walked off with an attitude. Had she done that when we first sat down, she would've absolutely not gotten the tip we gave nor would our experience been so well. The food was great overall! Highly recommend if you want a burger.

Yelp
Excellent service. Excellent atmosphere. Birthday celebration so we ordered all new foods. We experimented. The candy bacon was delicious. The fried eggs were good but needed seasoning in the batter. The Korean ribs sauces were both very flavorful. The actual ribs tasted boiled vs bbq grilled. They needed some seasoning and grilling. The cajun fries were Excellent. Now next time I am back to my amazing go to the shrimp appetizer. It never disappoints.

Yelp
First time dining outside by the firepit. I really like the set up but is made for just having drinks. We had to switch to a table once food arrived, all food was okay but the enchilada. it was NOT an enchilada it was a chile relleno. I don't like chile relleno so I wasn't happy about it

Yelp
I went here with my girlfriend's parents as it is one of her dad's favorites places to eat! They have a very wide ranging menu with options for everyone and a dog friendly patio! We got the bacon for an appetizer which, as always is very good. I ordered the chicken pot pie and they got the fish and the chicken. The fish portion was so big he couldn't eat it all and had to take it home. The food and service is always consistently good so if you're looking for a reliable place you've found it! It won't blow your socks off but it will always deliver. I would recommend.

Yelp
I'm new to Texas, and my friend told me about this spot. So when I got here my server(Da Bull) wanted to sit down with me and my friends and enjoy himself with us.He was so friendly and good at what he do, made me feel like I knew him already and then his manager the boss lady Autumn looked out for me with a gallon that bomb ass huckleberry lemonade, she was so nice and made me fell welcomed even got a card for a free appetizer. Thanks y'all and I swear I be back.

Yelp
Huge thanks to Lazy Dog for helping make my in-laws' 50th anniversary so special! Tony and Chris made the whole catering experience seamless. Even in the rain, Tony went above and beyond with such kindness and care. The food was incredible -- the lemon chicken was tender and flavorful, the potatoes were hearty and delicious, and the green beans were perfectly seasoned. Every dish was a hit! Lazy Dog truly exceeded expectations with both the food and service. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I came here on a weeknight with my boyfriend for a quick and healthy dinner. We were seated right away. I ordered the seared ahi tuna salad which was super yummy! Packed with lots of veggies and the portion size was good. Service was quick. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Plenty of parking outside. Happy hour from 3 to 6 at the bar or on the patio. Fun atmosphere, friendly staff. If you tell them it's your first visit then you get a pre chosen appetizer, we got the garlic parmesan chips, they were so delish. We ordered the happy hour burger which my bf said was really good. We also ordered the chicken lettuce wraps also delish. For drinks we ordered a watermelon margarita and a beer, everything ended up being 30 including tip. Well definitely return and try other things like the deviled eggs and Brussel sprouts.

Yelp
When my wife and I first started coming here, she immediately loved the place but I just wasn't sold. The "hunting lodge" aesthetic was nice, but the food just didn't live up to what I was looking for. With a few visits, we came across some items that suited our fancy. My wife really liked the lunch road trip bowls, but I never found one I liked. The one area where we found some common ground was the Beer Battered Fish & Chips. The portions are huge, so you can split the dish and accompany it with an appetizer or dessert. Service is inconsistent because there always seems to be someone new serving, but they're always friendly and helpful. Parking is plentiful and I've never encountered a long wait to be seated.
google avatar

Yelp
I hadn't been to Lazy Dog in a few years, and this visit was such a pleasant surprise. We ordered the Loco Moco Fried Rice, Thai Noodles, Bison Meatloaf, and Pie Tin Nachos--every single dish was amazing. Each one was flavorful and well-prepared, and I'd highly recommend all of them if you're trying to decide what to order. On top of that, the service was outstanding. Jeremy did an awesome job and made the experience even better!

Yelp
It's a great restaurant in a good location. We were looking to grab a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated quickly on the patio as we had our dog with us. That day's weather wasn't cold, but they had space heaters and a firepit you could sit around if temperatures dropped. We ordered several items, including loaded tater tots, fried Brussels sprouts, ahi tuna, and a burger with fries. Though we had to wait 15-20 minutes before our food came out, it was all hot and fresh. The tater tots and Brussels sprouts were crispy and tasty. They had just the right amount of toppings to satisfy us without overdoing it. The ahi tuna over rice was also delicious. Perfectly seared and prepared, we couldn't have asked for a better ahi tuna steak. Last but not least, the burger patty was cooked to medium, just as I requested, and the fries were done perfectly. They had a few sauces, including soy sauce, BBQ sauce, and chili sauce, into which we could dip our food. I took off a star because the service was a bit slow. Since we were the only party sitting out on the patio, we saw our server come by about every 15-20 minutes. We needed a water bowl for our dog, but getting a hold of our server was hard. Overall, it is a solid choice for lunch or dinner! They also have a full bar with many beers, though we didn't drink alcohol on this visit.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
3.5 stars - pricey for what it is, but we like the dog friendly patio and service was great. j got a Cuban sandwich and he liked it, and the lime-y spiced fries were right up his alley (but I thought they were too tangy) I got the harvest salad with added salmon- the salad was good but the salmon was a little bit dry and slightly overcooked. The kids got Mac n cheese with a side of fruit, and they loved the Mac n Cheese-- it looked like it was straight from the Kraft box- however, the kids liked it. The side of fruit was a large slice of watermelon, which was very tasty. Beer was a little expensive at $8 Overall it's a pretty good place but at this price point, we probably won't be back unless we have a coupon.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday night for dinner with a friend and we got seated pretty quickly. We ordered the firecracker shrimp and that was the best thing ever! I then ordered the chicken Parmesan and honestly, I felt like it was lacking some flavor. Like I had to even put some red chili flakes and squeeze some of my friend's lemon slice from her dish onto mine. Lastly, we ordered the banana pudding and that was pretty good. I will have to try more dishes hopefully soon.

Yelp
Took my Pup here for her birthday. Staff was super nice. Food was good, drinks were strong and good. I'll most definitely be coming back with friends and family.

Yelp
First time trying lazy dog was at the 290 location. Glad they are putting more on the sw side. Dropped in to the Stafford location for lunch this afternoon. They have a wide menu but I chose the lunch special due to time. You get to choose 3 items: a 1/2 sandwich , soup or salad and a side I had the 5 cheese grilled cheese, sesame salad and fries All for $11 Very good deal, and good portion sizes. Will definitely be back

Yelp
I live in Houston but first tried Lazy Dog in California on a business trip. It became our regular dinner place (group of coworkers) a couple of nights a week for a few months. The menu is so diverse it was easy to please everyone. Needless to say, I was very excited to see there was a location in the greater Houston area. Now I almost always order the same dish when I go to a restaurant. However, the menu looked sooooo good I think I went 12 visits before I ordered the same dish. My favorites: Pot roast, fried chicken dinner, Korean Bimbibop, ahi salad, club sandwich, Brussels sprouts, firecracker shrimp, the cheese ball appetizer (goat maybe?), burger, and I can't remember what else. Never a bad meal! The service at the bar was great! Very friendly, courteous, and checked on me often. I witnessed some other employees assisting other customers with that Texan charm. Lazy Dog is a great place for dinner alone, friends night out, or a family meal. Think of a diverse menu like The Cheese Cake Factory (but smaller, thank God), with a comfort food feel to it.

Yelp
A surprisingly really good restaurant with quite an eclectic menu and amazing staff. All members of staff were very warm and helpful, and the decor is very cozy. But best of all is the food. We've been here twice and tried several options from all over the menu. The Loco Moco Fried Rice was a tasty riff on the traditional Hawaiian dish. The Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup were delicious. The fried devilled eggs were really good and not greasy at all. The best of all was the BBQ Bison Meatloaf. Great place that we plan to visit often now that we found it!

Yelp

Yelp
I've never been to a Lazy Dog! Apparently it's a chain but my coworker suggested it for a team lunch one day! Service was spot on! They even gave us free desserts on the house cause it was most of our first times! They had a huge huge menu!! So there was something for everyone! I ordered the St. Louis ribs with the fries and the ribs were cooked well.. tender and deliciously flavored. I had a refresher drink but because the bartender was busy, the server brought me a strawberry lemonade first while I waited, which was such a nice gesture! Nobody had any complaints about the food and that warm brownie with ice cream was to die for!! Interior felt like a cozy log cabin! We enjoyed ourselves and would definitely come back again!!

The wife and I had no expectations and were very impressed. Andrew was our server and did an excellent job. Will be back again soon.

Yelp
1/5/26- (Monday), I had a long day at work and decided to go to a happy hour. I searched in my area and found this restaurant. It was my first time going. I was greeted when I walked in and went to the bar. The bartender-Russell greeted me with a smile and was very pleasant. He answered all my questions and also suggested some items. I was also given a free appetizer since it was my first time there. Manager-Maegan brought it out to me. She was pleasant and had a smile on her face as well. I so enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, as well as the staff and management. She even given me a free dessert card to come back. I so recommended this location. Great people, food, drinks, and happy hour. They have a large variety as well as the drink menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Our server, Mitch, was amazing! He laughed at my brother's dumb, dad jokes, but was friendly and efficient and patient. The food is great for traditional, comfort food and the atmosphere is relaxed (don't sit outside if you're not a dog person). Definitely try a drink with the huckleberry juice. Hopefully you'll be lucky enough to sit in Mitch's section.

Yelp
Went back to lazy dog for the fantastic service. Bartenders Steve and Jt are fantastic. I also met the manager Tony it was a very great guy. That smoked bacon bourbon what a fantastic combination highly recommend, especially if you're a whiskey person. The bacon candy is a great starter as well as the lemon pepper tots. Finished it off with the fried chicken sandwich, which was also spectacular. I love this place. I recommend it to any and everybody. They're also dog friendly, which is definitely a plus.

Yelp
Lazy Dog has a great happy hour! Drinks are 7 dollars and under and you can get almost every appetizer for 5 to 7 dollars during happy hour. I came with my mom and son ans ordered pretty much every food on the happy hour menu. My mom got the fish and chips which was a big plate of four pieces of fish and fries and my son got mac and cheese. The waiters were really nice and on it! The ambiance is cute it has like a little country feel. I will be back for the happy hour drinks and some of the happy hour foods...the Cauliflour and brussel sprouts were my fav! The kids mac and cheese could have looked a little better tho ..it looks like I made it at the house (but my son did eat it all)...so it was a good time!

Yelp
We came in at around 10:30pm on a Saturday night and it was surprisingly empty. However, the first thing I noticed was how bright, spacious and clean the entire place was. Maybe cause it was empty but you can tell that it was organized. We ordered the deviled eggs, crispy rice ahi tuna, and fish and chips. Oh my goodness - the serving size is Huge!!! I was pleasantly surprised on how good the devil eggs were and that it was deep fried. Mind you, I'm not huge on deviled eggs cause they're typically made with some mustard and I am not a fan of it HOWEVER I would go back again. Usually in other restaurants, the crispy rice tuna comes in 2-3 pieces but they gave 6 large pieces so I'm pretty happy with the price of it. Lastly - HUGE fish lover here and the white fish used for the fish and chips was delicious. The batter and seasoning was just right, and it wasn't overly coated. The fries were frying (if ya catch my drift here). Our server was extremely kind and attentive. It is a bit pricier but the quality and quantity matches it. I would come back again :)

Yelp
My friend & I were here on a Sunday & we requested Ferdinand. His service is always outstanding. Makes sure we are taking care of. Checks on us several times. So polite, curtious, & respectful! Great Food & service! . Janice R.

Yelp
Like other reviewers said, this place has a bar like atmosphere bar, high top & booth seating in the bar area. Multiple TVs. Well lit, open space. Rustic wood beam ceilings, good amount of space. I got the beer sampler which came in three eight ounce beers for about $10. I suppose thats alright. Staff were mid as well. I stepped up the guy at the podium and almost immediately shared it was his first day and his trainer stepped away. Told him I was gonna hang at the bar in the mean time while he figures out how to seat our party. Eventually we get to our spot and service was great. I ordered a veggie omelete and a their gooey edamame. Honestly, it wasn't bad, but this wasn't memorable. It was a veggie omelete.... Nothing blowing my mind away, it was just OK. Their gooey edamame was just not to my liking. Flavor was fine, but the extra sauce on edamame is just not my style. Just keep it plain with maybe dry seasoning on it, but not saucy. Lazy Dog is fine, not great and it doesn't set itself apart for many modern brunch places out there.

Yelp
The Lazy Dog is a nice restaurant. I truly liked the atmosphere and appearance when I walked in. The people welcomed us in at the hostess stand and we were seated immediately. I ordered the pork chop. It was a good portion and the pork chop was perfectly cooked and delicious. I don't get to that part of town too often, but I will make a stop when I am. I recommend you giving them a try.

Yelp
My family and I have been dining at Lazy Dog for years, yet this is the first time that I've left a review for them! We were in Cypress visiting family and deciding to come here for lunch. We brought our pup with us and were able to eat outside on the patio with him. They provided a bowl of water for him as well as a menu curated just for dogs! haha The patio is nice and spacious, lots of fans and it was cool despite it being quite warm. We ordered the candied bacon as well as the deviled eggs for appetizers. This was my first time having a deviled egg fried and it was good! The candied bacon was amazing of course because who doesn't love a good slice of bacon! For entrees, I ordered the fish tacos and my husband got the bibimbap bowl. The fish tacos were good however, I found the rice and beans to be just okay. The bibimbap bowl was really good though and had great flavor! We also ordered a hamburger patty bowl for our dog. We were humored when our waitress asked us how he would like the patty cooked haha he enjoyed his meal as well. Overall, we love coming to Lazy Dog to eat and will continue to be patrons here! Our service, food and drinks were all great.

Yelp
An unforgettable dining experience! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the atmosphere -- warm, welcoming, and with exceptional customer service. Here's what my wife and I ordered: NY Steak (medium rare) -- Cooked and seasoned to perfection. Every bite was a delight. Braised Beef Birria Noodles -- A surprising and delicious fusion. The combination of birria and noodles with the rich consommé and cheese creates an incredibly flavorful dish. Butter Cake -- Simply heavenly! The strawberry sauce, vanilla ice cream, and hint of mint elevate this dessert to another level. A perfect way to end the meal. A special shoutout to our server Makeyla, who was kind, attentive, and clear when walking us through the menu. Also, Chef Luis came to our table to check on our food and recommended the dessert -- a rare and wonderful touch! We'll definitely be coming back. Places like this are hard to find.

Yelp
Loved the brussel sprouts, the fried chicken , and the fresh out of the oven cookies! Edwin was the best waiter, a very nice person, smiles a lot, and has great recommendations!

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! Everything from the atmosphere, to the staff, to the incredible food and many options. The appetizers are fantastic! I especially love the deviled eggs. It was my first time trying the bang bang shrimp, and I must say I think it might be a new favorite of mine. It was not too spicy, had a lot of flavor. Our waitress was extra nice, and gave us a free appetizer because my friend that I went with had never been here before. I will definitely be coming back many times over!

Yelp
I ordered the flat iron steak (medium rare), my mom ordered the grilled chicken caesar salad, and my brother ordered the sweet potato tots! Everything was good, although my mom thought the chicken in her salad was too dry. The sauce that came with the sweet potato tots were delicious, and my steak was a perfect medium rare! This is a good family place and is kid-friendly, with lots of options on the menu for different tastes and picky eaters. The wait time was long enough to make us wonder what the hold up was, but the servers were super friendly! Would go again :)
