We stopped in after a paddling trip based on a recommendation from our great friend. The garlic fries were served hot and fresh with just the right amount of seasoning. My wife and I split a salad that was crisp and delish. We ordered the pizza and a gluten free pizza for two of our kiddos and both pizzas were scarfed before we could blink an eye. Needless to say, the food was delicious. The Mt. Katahdin brew was a nice addition to the meal! The kiddos loved sitting in the balcony. On of the staff told us that the building used to be a theater and that we were sitting where the projector used to be! How fun!

First time visiting Lazy Hiker and I was pleasantly surprised. We sampled a flight of their house brews to decide a full pour or two. I’m an IPA guy, my wife leans toward stouts and porters—and both of us found something to enjoy. I went for the NEIPA: smooth, flavorful, and refreshingly crushable on a hot day. No MBAT either, which was a plus. Food-wise, we grabbed seats at the bar since the shaded tables in the back were taken. I ordered the pub burger with chips and pub cheese. The burger was the kind I prefer—thicker and cooked rare-to-medium rare—not a smash burger (which are everywhere in Sylva lately). The pub cheese was creamy, cheddar-based (I think), with a bit of a southwestern kick. Also tried the wings: not jumbo, but definitely not tiny. Good texture and a solid buffalo sauce with just enough heat to keep things interesting. The one con, you are ordering from two different business's, the Lazy Hikers, and whatever the name of the food service was, sorry, can't remember. Kind of like a food truck, but inside kitchen in the establishment. You pay at the bar, they keep your card vs just swyping, and then when you order at the food window, they have to bring your CC over to swype on their terminal, not terrible, just odd! Service was excellent—attentive and friendly. Even though we live a couple of counties away, this is one we’ll make a point to revisit when we’re nearby.

Google
Cool place and convenient location in the middle of Silva. The restaurant is laid back with a pretty cool vibe. The menu is innovative and concept is great. I can see this being awesome in the evening with live music and the beer flowing. However, I was there in the daytime for lunch and without the excitement of people, alcohol, and live music to add to the ambiance, I thought the food was just okay. No complaints, just nothing to brag about either. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Every year we travel to the Sylva area for our Anniversary and this year we were fortunate enough to catch a band playing. Cool little place that you must check out!

Google
I was thrilled to be able to join in the Thursday Open Jam session! We were visiting from Louisiana and I had brought my rubboard along. The casual atmosphere was welcoming and the "High on the Hog" pizza was delicious!

Google
Great place!! So great, we visited 2 days in a row. Angela is an awesome bartender!! Will head straight there if ever back in the area. Every beer we tried was 👍

Google
Well I am definitely a review person this is how I found this place was by the public posted reviews. 1st. The hostess that took your order was rude. Being our first time here and being from out of town wasn't sure how everything worked. You grab a menu and then order then find yourself a seat. No problem with this but a little kindness goes a long way. 2nd. The side salad was absolutely amazing, very fresh and yummy! 3rd. Bus boy was phenomenal working very hard! 4th. Draft craft beer reasonable priced and yummy. Many choices. 5th. Live music was phenomenal! Guy did a great job! 6th. Last...but the whole reason for visiting.. Pizza. We KNOW our pizza.. This was by far the worst pizza we have ever had. It was so overcooked that I was carefully chewing so I wouldn't chip a tooth or bite my gum. It was so disappointing. It could of been a fabulous pizza if not way overcooked...so disappointing. I wasn't about to return it or complain (we all know how that works out) after having to deal with the rude Hostess.

Google
Found in the heart of Sylva, NC. This wonderful brewery and restaurant are a must-see when you are traveling in the area. The Lazy Hiker offers a large selection of beer with knowledgeable bartenders to perfectly match the beer to the patron! The food is supplied by The Mad Batter kitchen with wonderfully flavorful meals for all tastes and ages! The venue also has a stage for the occasional show and has a beautiful beer garden (outdoor seating). I will be bringing my family here whenever I pass through the area!

Yelp
this pizza was THE BEST chicken bacon ranch pizza i have ever had. The inside is so fun and lively and all the servers are nice and quick.

Yelp
We've visited several times and it's always good. Mad Batter Eats has a lot of options beyond just the ordinary. They offer bowls, soup along with traditional pizza and sandwiches. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jill R.

Yelp
Delicious as always! Favorite part of our meal was the curry and garlic knots. I would not order the kale Caesar salad again because it was so salty. The loaded tots were just ok. The mimosa was on point and so was the pineapple guava sour ale. Service was quick and easy. The bartender was friendly and helpful. We love coming to the Lazy Hiker!
google avatar

Yelp
The vegan pizza this time was slimy and limp. The burrito if grilled may have been alright to hold but it fell apart. No longer impressed.
google avatar

Dixie B.

Yelp
Lazy Hiker is a huge gathering spot for young people and beer enthusiasts of all ages. Their location is super convenient to access. They do serve food, too, and usually have something yummy that will work for me. The staff always seem to understand food sensitivities, so that's helpful. Drop in -- I think you'll find something you like.

Yelp
So many fun beer choices. We tried a few IPAs and a seasonal that I have forgotten the name. Sorry! Many tables both outside and in the brewery. It was really nice sitting outside. Service was great. Bartender was very fun and knowledgeable about the beer choices. We had four dogs with us and there was plenty of space for all of them.

Christine H.

Yelp
Beer and food were good. Establishment is clean and well lit. BUT... while the girl taking food orders was very personable the woman at the bar with the black and white glasses was rude and unpleasant. She seemed annoyed by us even though we were the only people in line to order. I asked for a sample and she very clearly didn't want to accommodate me. I thought maybe I was misunderstanding her attitude but when we sat down my husband said we shouldn't come back here because the bartender was rude and made him uncomfortable. So that's that.
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
So so beer at average prices. The food here is good but it looks like perhaps it is a separate business
google avatar

Rickey S.

Yelp
When visiting the Sylva area for a week, my friend and I wanted to try the local breweries. Lazy Hiker was our favorite! This large brewery has high ceilings and a stage for live music. If you're not into IPAs, don't worry. Lazy Hiker has lots of lighter pale ales, lagers, and a Pilsner to choose from. We sat at the bar and had the friendliest bartender. You're allowed to sample the beers, which is great if you're picky. The restaurant inside of the brewery is actually a different business where you order at a counter and pay separately. Our burger and salad were SO good! Way better than typical brewery food. I recommend checking out Lazy Hiker if you're in the Sylva area!
google avatar

Jimmy P.

Yelp
Did not even bother to stay after the bartender was so rude regarding the separate food arrangement with Mad Batter. Could not even order a water at the bar. Just an awful experience and will not be back. And the Zebra eyeglasses aren't cute.
google avatar

Alexa C.

Yelp
Easily the busiest place in Sylva. You wouldn't expect to find a fairly popular brewery here but it's located right off main. Offering food and live music too. Took the bartender forever to even pay attention to us though. Sat right at the bar and watched him help 3 or 5 people before us. So I guess if you have nothing else to do in Sylva then you just come here because it's the most active place in town. Overall would be back cause the server was nice when he did come over. Cool open atmosphere and they have lots of merch but service is lacking
google avatar

Randy S.

Yelp
Another solid beer and food establishment to dine after a day of sightseeing and shopping. The beers are nice and have cool creative names, very solid, very good. This is a self service bar, meaning that you come to the bar for everything. The food here is ok, but not great IMHO. I would just come for the beer. The inside seems to be loud and busy most of the time. We had a hard time having a conversation. It is a place worth visiting, so put it on your list.
google avatar

Coggi W.

Yelp
We enjoyed the pizza and big salads, nice venue with large stage for live bands, large selection of micro brewed beers!
google avatar

Darren M.

Yelp
Great beer selection, great menu with delicious food, and wonderful live music. The service was top notch and the outdoor patio and great place to hang out with friends.
google avatar

Kim W.

Yelp
Great brewery in downtown Sylva. Located on Main Street near all the shopping you could want. Bar is 2 stories and has a nice stage for live music. Unlike a lot of breweries they offer food. Grab your favorite brew while munching on a fresh pizza or wrap.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
So glad we stopped here on our way home! They do it a little different. No extravagant high profile flavor profiles (for the most part) just good solid drinking beer. That Red Marble Rye was fantastic! And if you are hungry, you Have Mad Batter right there as well. We had their Korean BBQ wings and the pretzels & beer cheese and both were amazingly good. If you ever happen through Sylvia, NC you need to stop. Or, like us, even if you are passing writhing 25 miles, STOP! Hahaha
google avatar

Yelp
Found this little gem on our latest visit to Cherokee NC. Great beer, great selection, friendly staff to help with selections. The Mad Batter supplies the food and they even have a dog menu, which my husband's service dog loved! Food was tasty and quite a variety. We were there on a weekday so it was quiet but started to get busy. Will definitely be back.

Renee E.

Yelp
Awesome place in downtown Sylva. Excellent food and brews. Great place to hang out on a rainy day. Bartenders are great.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Stopped in for a beer and snacks and was such a cute place. Not a huge selection of beers but was still decent. Nice seating inside and outside and pup friendly too!
google avatar

Bill G.

Yelp
The Lazy Hiker Brewing company and the Mad Hatter share the same space to bring food and libations to weary hikers and travelers alike. The space is sparse, but looks like it could be a rock'n place with a Sarah's and balcony (Lazy Lounge). The food was very tasty. We had the Kale salad, fried chicken sandwich and a pork bbq platter. Don't miss the homemade lemonade! Unfortunately, we did not partake in the beer, but hope to return soon.

Yelp
Stop number 1 in downtown Sylva was at Lazy Hiker Brewing. I ordered a flight (you get your choice of 4 beers) and my husband ordered a pint of one of their amber ales. For my flight I selected Trail Candy, Slack Pack IPA, Spring Fever Pilsner and the pineapple cherry sour ale. My favorite was the Trail Candy which is a Tropical IPA and my husband really liked his amber ale. If you are hungry they share a space with Mad Batter Kitchen. If you are in the area or passing through, check this spot out.

Yelp
Nice little tap room in Silva. Brewing is actually doe in Franklin. Lazy Hiker has a really nice line of craft beer - there is a flavor profile for anyone. Service was great. Prices less than tap rooms in Asheville for better beer. Sweet little pub grub kitchen on premise. I'd like to come back in the evening to hear the live music.

Yelp
The good: The food was good, including vegan options. The building was neat, including a good vibe. Plenty of hand sanitizer. Good beer selection. Outdoor seating that was comfortable/pleasant. The staff with one noticeable exception was friendly & accommodating. A coworker who is from the area commented how good the beer was, The bad: So if I need to bus my own table, is anybody wiping it down? Counter service. The bartender was rude. My wife was standing near the bar when the bartender, Courtney, very rudely asked if she could help her. It wasn't so much the words as the tone, as if she didn't want to be bothered. When I went to the bar to ask a few questions she made a catty comment about our group, asking if we were all parents of freshman. We tried to joke it off, as we were all wearing something WCU, "is it that obvious." She deadpanned "yeah" and rolled her eyes. I'm up in the air if I'll return. This place could be more, and even though I'll chalk our experience up to COVID, I'm tired of the "Covid" excuse for why things are sub par

Donna C.

Yelp
Mad Batter Kitchen has great food and Lazy Hiker has great beer! What could be better!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome food and beer!! Their Korean BBQ sandwich and bowl are amazing. Great tasty local brews and friendly people, you can't go wrong.
google avatar

Yelp
We were visiting family in Sylva for the first time and liked LH so much we went twice in one day. Cool atmosphere, great staff and awesome beer! Hope to return on our next visit!

Yelp
Lazy Hiker is another brewery/restaurant in downtown Sylva. We came in for dinner one night and the first thing we noticed is that they have a full stage and there was a live band playing. I will say it was nice that the music wasn't too loud too. We had heard that can be the case at times. We found a table and sat down since we saw a sigh that said "please seat yourself". Once seated for about 5 minutes we realized that they don't have servers that come by and take your order but rather if you want food you order at the counter and if you want beer you order at the bar. I first went to the bar for a beer. All the beer all tap is beer they brew and they had multiple size options and they were price by size not by beer which keeps it simple. For my meal I ordered the Patty Melt with house made chips and beer cheese. Everyone knows beer cheese makes everything better. The Patty Melt was good but was a little plain in my opinion. Just mustard and raw onions on it. I guess that's what the beer cheese was for but I used it for my house made chips. All and all great place to grab a beer and have a bite to eat.

Yelp
Driving through Sylva and seen a sign for Music Bingo!! What?!? I had to check it out. I sat at the bar and was served immediately. Unfortunately, I was too late for bingo but was able to enjoy some awesome tunes from all genres and decades. I had the Tangerine Wheat beer and it was amazing! This a cool little town with a lot unique places to eat and shop. I plan to return and visit The Lazy Hiker again.
google avatar

Tricia G.

Yelp
I'm updating my review of Lazy Hiker Brewing and giving them 5 stars instead of 4. What's not to like? They have great brews and bites. Service is very friendly, I love that they update their menu pretty regularly and it is dog friendly. Staff is taking covid precautions seriously which is reassuring as a patron. Such a great place!
google avatar

Kayla N.

Yelp
Out of towner just looking for a decent burger and a decent place to eat it. Obnoxiously loud on trivia night. Even when you try to go outside people prop the door open. 3 songs going on at once. I ordered a medium burger and was brought out an extremely well done burger. Special sauce is nothing to write home about. The entire meal was very low flavor. The entire experience was very frustrating. Would never spend 17$ on a burger here again.
google avatar

Linda B.

Yelp
Great brew - and pizza! We had goat cheese and mushroom - it also had fresh tomato and spinach. Nice light crisp crust. Enjoyed it with their Octoberfest- flavorful yet light enough for the 20 ounce! Sat outside under the trees. Great place to come back to so we can try some more. Prices were good... $6 got me a 20 ounce. Pizza was 20 inch (big!) for a good price (don't remember exactly). Crowd was local and varied... couple of guys playing chess, big groups and small. Very chill. You get your own silverware, water, napkins - so get over yourself on that because the casual atmosphere makes everything ok.
google avatar

Abigail S.

Yelp
Can here multiple times while in the area for a road trip. Everything was perfect. The staff (both bar/kitchen) were beyond lovely. The food was awesome both nights (lots of vegetarian options)! I liked every beer I tried. Also loved the laid back atmosphere after long days of hiking. Definitely felt like a lazy hiker here. Give it a try if you are in the area.
google avatar

Justin A.

Yelp
Tasty beers and delicious, generous portioned foods. The carnitas nachos were fantastico!

L R.

Yelp
Beer is good, not ones that we would rate at the top of our favorites. If you enjoy cold beer, this isn't it. Lots of interesting folks if you enjoy people watching.
google avatar

Allison W.

Yelp
This place is the weirdest most wonderful find in all of Sylva. The pizza was insanely good and the local brewed beer was really great. We even got to-go growlers and free pins and stickers for the kids. There was a folk band of retirees on stage while we are and a local woman clogging to the beat. I will be talking about this place for years!!!
google avatar

Scott G.

Yelp
Lazy Hiker Brewing on Main St in downtown Sylva is in the same location as Mad Batter kitchen. The beer is ordered from Lazy Hiker bar but food is ordered at Mad Batter kitchen counter. Nice selection of draft beers as well as some caned ciders & soft drinks. Tried several pale ale brews & enjoyed both. Relaxed atmosphere on the evening we visited, Thursday's are jam night. A local group of musicians provided the free entertainment. Looks like bands are booked on weekends. An outdoor area is also available for seating & smoking. Look for review of food at Mad Batter.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
Great environment, good service, and awesome people. Plenty of seating, nice and bright. I enjoyed the "The Darkening" Black Cherry Sour Ale and it did not disappoint. The do not have food, but they share space with Mad Batter Kitchen. They have a great selection of beer, and look forward to stopping in here again when I'm the area!
google avatar

Sydney S.

Yelp
I've been coming here for 3 years and all I can say is eh, it's just okay. When it comes to breweries I prefer Nantahala Brewing Sylva. The staff is much nicer and the location is better. One plus is lazy hiker has better parking. When it comes to drinks, they do have some good options but personally I like ciders and sours and it's hard to find one on tap!! They supply cans but when I go out to drink, I don't want to drink canned beer. Also one of the ladies told me you can't fill a growler with ciders or sours! That's crazy, you can fill any beer of you're choosing at Nantahala. Last thing, if you are looking to buy merchandise lazy hiker does have a good selection of growlers, signs, clothes, stickers, buttons, etc.

David K.

Yelp
Ought to rename this place "The Lazy Staff"! Attitude of the employees was atrocious! You have to order your food and get your own drinks. They bring the food out. Had a party of four on a non-busy time. Food came out one at a time. By the time the pizza came out, everyone was done eating. I refused the pizza and asked for a refund. Attitude was non-apologetic and not caring a bit! Sorry thing was I tipped them 18%!!!!
google avatar

Marci G.

Yelp
This place was awesome! The staff was friendly, the beers were great and the food was delicious- even my picky 9 year old loved it. The vibe was cool and laid back. Definitely a hidden gem! Will return for sure next time we are in area.

JB T.

Yelp
Loved this brewery! Great indoor and outdoor space! Lots of excellent draft beer choices. Dog friendly! And friendly bartender! Highly recommend this place!!

Kyra E.

Yelp
Lazy is the best name for this place. We were visiting from Charlotte and decided to stop by and eat before returning home. Everything at this place is self serve. You even have to bus your own table. None of the employees know what's going on in this place. I ordered a gluten free pizza and watched it get ran to the wrong table. I had to physically go and get it from someone else's table after they looked confused and tried to get the waitress to tell her it wasn't theirs, but she ran backinto the kitchen. We all ate and since the food was coming out super slow and one at a time we realized someone in our party never got their veggie burger. We checked the receipt and realized even though we ordered it and the guy read it back to us he didn't ring it in. We waited another 30 minutes for that burger. All we got was a sorry and a free old pastry. Never coming here again.

Morgan W.

Yelp
Very good food and would recommend for dates or just looking for a nice restaurant! i would like to say it is a TAD pricey but the food is good quality so i feel like it's almost worth it. Best option on the menus i've had so far were the pretzels and the vegan coconut curry!
google avatar

Teresa B.

Yelp
Nice inside, better than Franklin, but their beer taste and smells like it's got perfume in it. NASTY

R P.

Yelp
Great service. Had lunch for under $10 per person and quality pizza and soup. Also, nice beer selection and nice hipster ambiance. Was just passing through and stumbled upon this cute stop. I recommend for families as well as they have board games. Cheese pizza dipped in tomato soup was delish :)

Ellen I.

Yelp
Today's lunch was just perfect. We were able to eat outside. The food and the beer were top notch. Special kudos to Jeannette, owner/chef of the Mad Batter Restaurant in the bar. We will return!

Mark T.

Yelp
Really good pizza here. The crust is great. I am from Chicago and have had a ton of great pizza. I highly recommend it and will be back.
google avatar

Kendall R.

Yelp
A very laid back bar that had a really nice outside gas fireplace. The beer was good, it's a nice brand that could be expanded upon. Staff were helpful and we had no issues with our group of 12 when we were amidst our Sylva brewery crawl.
