I was driving down South Rainbow with a former tax deduction (also known as my adult daughter) when we spotted Lazy Joe's. Because she needs her food gluten free and it's rare to find a place with so many offerings, we stopped in.
Lazy Joe's fish is prepared with g/f breading and so are the onion rings, fried shrimp, and chicken. They taste every bit as good as non g/f food and that's always a challenge. The owners are careful and knowledgeable about gluten, using a corn-based flour and avoiding cross-contamination.
I figured Joe was probably slacking in the back room, watching YouTube videos or playing Grand Theft Auto while his staff was busy running the restaurant. But no, Joe works his ass off...greeting diners, taking orders, sanitizing, preparing food, cleaning tables, sanitizing some more....maybe he needs to change the name to Workaholic Joe's.
Melissa got a fish and chicken combo plate with fries. I got fish and onion rings and we both got stuffed to the gills with a satisfying meal. I've had french fries there before and they seem to be frozen, so nothing special. But the onion rings are prepared fresh, using g/f flour, and are superior to their fries. She was impressed by the chicken strips because there are really very few places in town that sell g/f fried chicken she can eat.
Don't go in expecting cloth napkins, lit candles, and flambé type food prepared tableside. This is an informal small strip mall restaurant that serves fried food as well as some Mediterranean offerings like hummus, shawarma, and gyros.
But if you're in the SW part of town and craving some better tasting and healthier fish 'n chips, don't go to H. Too Salty or Long John Transfat's. Stop by Lazy Joe's instead. Even his wife, Lazy Josephine, will be busy working non-stop!
