Le Bateau Ivre is a quaint and cozy French style home converted restaurant. The food is good and service is friendly.

Stunning throwback to a kinder, gentler era of slower food and drink, and nicer people, Le Bateau Ivre, has a purity of intention, that dates back to the culinary revolution of the 60's and 70's, and holds forth with a simple, almost rustic menu, especially in the breakfast department, where they really shine. Their recipe for Hollandaise sauce is the stuff of local legend, still executed with tasteful mastery, and the way they put it all together in their eggs Benedict with home fries, and a small mixed fruit side, is exactly what the weary soul, lost in a sea of foodie choices, desperately needs. This is real french home food. And I am in love with the place, and the people. BONUS: The decor and surroundings are to die for, and LBI is THE place for an intimate date. And if all of that wasn't enough, they are incredibly economical. (So please leave them a nice tip, and help keep this historic place open!) Treat yourself! P.I.

If you are in Berkeley Le Bateau Ivre should be in your dining plans. This is a perfect example of fine unpretentious elegant dining in the French fashion. The menu is simple and the meals are perfect. The restaurant is a late 1800s converted house with multiple cozy dining rooms with typical round table-clothed tables surrounded by an eclectic mix of period chairs. Outdoors is perfect patio dining with wrought iron tables with umbrellas. The service was excellent and the prices are very modest. I have traveled all over the world. Eaten in fine restaurants but I have to say this was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I have had. By the way I had lunch on the patio and dinner in the window seat inside. Just perfect!

Came here for lunch because the place looks super cute. We ordered the French onion soup, salmon cakes and bolognese (which was very recommended). The French onion soup was pretty standard and my friend has enjoyed. The salmon cakes and bolognese were unremarkable. I would not come again for the food, but the vibe is very cute and they have a lovely outdoor area.

Really cute ambiance for brunch! The food was good, and it felt cozy, and the staff was warm and welcoming… they seemed mildly understaffed, but service was still efficient. Reasonably priced food for Berkeley, too.
