Yelp
This is a very good grocery store and, following several recent closings and displacements, clearly the best in the neighborhood, your go-to option for fresh food and clean eating for several blocks in either direction. They clearly curate all of their products very carefully to pack in as many good options as one could imagine on a relatively modest footprint. And on one ambitious visit several months ago when I wanted a) lentil soup and b) to avoid a long drive elsewhere, I decided to put it to the test, and I came away with a haul that included artichokes, chard, olive oil, polenta, green lentils, brown lentils, farro, hummus, bread, vegetable stock, and tomato paste. You can do what you need to do here, and that includes referring to a competently managed meat counter and wine section, if you're game to prepare a full home-cooked meal for someone you'd like to impress.
As for 4 stars not 5: They're doing great for SF, but I can't fully absolve SF for setting the ceiling too low in terms of affordability. The prices here are high--perhaps not notably high on the SF spectrum but nonetheless high enough to exclude. And the staff, who are usually very pleasant and clearly care about the business, have at times monitored me more closely than I would like. Based on the price point, I primarily rely on this location for fresh bread and the occasional pastry, both of which are lovely to have given the lack of other good options in the surrounding area. So, YMMV. All in all, I vote that it is a great store full of many wonderful things, and very much worth keeping on your roster.
