"André Le Letty, formerly of the Anacréon, has set up shop in the renowned Rue de Caulaincourt and specialises in bistro classics. Try pressed ox cheek in crystallised lemon, veal kidneys in mustard, roast hake, and not forgetting the house specialty, pressed duck served in two stages." - Michelin Inspector

I think this is exactly what French food is about. Fresh seasonal ingredients cooked in a simple way. I really loved it. Most people around me were French and local which is a great sign to me. My veal fricasse had exactly what I would hope it has in end of April - white asparagus, leak, carrot. The dessert was strawberry sabayon, perfect for now, uncooked strawberries complimented by a very delicious sabayon. It was also quite reasonable in price.

Had one of my favorite meals in Paris at Le Bistrot du Maquis. I wish I could remember our server's name as she was one of our favorites we've ever had (Mary-elle maybe?). We preordered the duck in two services. It's encouraged to call in the request a few days in advance since they have to leave the city to pick up the duck at a farm. The first course was the rare breast of duck served with the sauce, created from pressing the bones and extracting the blood and liquefied organs. It's then thickened with the duck liver and cognac. The second part is the leg and thighs, confit and the roasted with a mustard crust. This is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The duck breast was perfectly cooked and so tender, you could cut it with the end of the fork. And the sauce was truly the perfect compliment. We met chef Letty at the end of the meal and it was a delight talking to him about where they source the duck and learning more about this classic French technique. Wonderful evening and I cannot recommend it enough.

Our hotel concierge used to be a chef and he highly recommended this place for its straight forward and quality French cuisine. Our family of 4 all thought this was the best restaurant we tried during our week in Paris. The ambience was cozy and inviting, the service was impeccable, and the food was absolutely delicious. We loved everything we ordered. My 14 year old doesn’t love meat and she’s not normally an adventurous eater. She said the octopus with hummus appetizer was her favorite bite of the evening and she loved the beef dish because it was very tender. I had the cod and it was delightful. I ate every bite! We had the creme brûlée and chocolate cake with ice cream to finish the meal and both were sublime. The lady who served our table was an absolute gem. She was so sweet to our daughters. If I get another chance to return to Paris, this Bistrot will be my first dinner stop!

Delightful lunch at Le Bistrot du Maquis - a clear favourite amongst locals due to the delicious food and friendly service. Mussel soup, tartare, veal and panna cotta were absolute delights. This was a true representation of French cuisine.

Had the restaurant already bookmarked based on a youtube channel & a foodblog. It was also recommended by our hotel! What a nice little restaurant, a menu with 6/7 of different options per course and nice wines. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Montmartre area.

I usually am quite the planner but found this place after my trip to the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur. My French is terrible but the staff made sure to accommodate me and help me feel welcome. I believe the older lady was the owner and she was just phenomenal, truly loved how she didn’t mind I knew very little French and just did her best to help me. I translated the menu myself using google, which was kinda helpful but then just ordered off of what I thought I knew without being sure. Needless to say that the food was really good. I would definitely come back here and suggest to check it out while in Paris. I spent more here than at most other restaurants but it was my last night in Paris so decided to treat myself, still can say I wasn’t disappointed for 3 courses and 3 glasses of wine at £60.

Missed the mark. Food was sub par. Let me start off by saying this place has been recommended by Michelin. Take that for what you will but we’ve been to every category from their Bib Gourmand to their highly rated 3 star restaurants. This is one of the places you should probably avoid and I’ll tell you why. We started off with the octopus. It was chilled and sliced. Had a bunch of pickled items so the acidity was nice but the octopus lacked any flavor. It was very tender but that’s standard. The highlight on the dish were these little red peppers. I’m talking maybe 1/2 an inch diameter and length. There were only 3 or 4 of them but with everything else on the dish being blah I found some joy cutting them in half and eating them. My wife had the monkfish medallions. We’ve had monkfish multiple times and this was overcooked and chewy. It’s almost like they preseared it off before service, let it dry out and reheated it. It didn’t taste old but it was probably the 2nd worst monkfish dish I’ve ever had. There was an extremely bitter vegetable which I couldn’t figure out also. I had the pork belly. Which was extremely tender. After adding salt to the sauce and the pork itself I thought it was missing something since the server told us it came with black pudding and I was torn between the pork or some braised beef dish. I picked the pork with black pudding. The dish didn’t have black pudding so I asked if I missed something. The server told me that they ran out and that they were closing for the holidays after today which is the reason they didn’t have it. Well my question to that is, the same server dropped our food at the table and didn’t mention the lack of the black pudding, so why would they only mention it when I bring it up? No excuses. We skipped dessert. I didn’t want to take a chance and gamble on how bad it could be. 2 out of 3 courses were already lacking. I didn’t want to waste another course. Food 2: “could be a 4 on a good day but I’d avoid this place”. Service 3: despite all that our server was very nice. She just didn’t know how to handle the situation well. “Our server was not the owner since the owner we saw a picture of outside and was working the dining room also” Ambiance 3: typical French bistro. Pictures are of the menu we took from their iPad. Obviously they sketched out an app that was out when we arrived and also a blank in the entrees. Not sure if that was done during service or not. The duck press picture is one I sent to a friend of mine since if this place was actually decent when we return to Paris we’d pre-order the duck press. Would beat going to tour d’argent again.

Yelp
I found this restaurant while browsing Michelin guide. Bistro du Maquis doesn't have a Michelin star but has bib gourmand status. I made a reservation the day before for Saturday night. The restaurant has a homey, down to earth feel. They have an a la carte menu but they also offer a set menu with two or three courses for a fixed price, which is about 40 euros for three courses. For appetizers, we had foie gras and melon gazpacho. Both were excellent, but I would definitely recommend the melon gazpacho if you want something lighter. I'd never had melon gazpacho before and have since added it to my kitchen repertoire as a great no-cook summer recipe. For mains, my husband got the duck and I got the pork tenderloin. We don't often eat duck or pork tenderloin, and despite this, we enjoyed these so much. Both were very flavorsome. My pork was especially tender. My husband's duck was complemented really well with the apricot that it was served alongside. For desserts, we had the creme brulee and the peach salad. Both were excellent as everything had been, but the peach salad was a refreshing and lighter way to end the meal as I was so full from the first two courses. The service was really kind and prompt. This was a great pick from the Michelin guide and I would definitely recommend it as an excellent restaurant to try, even if you're not staying in the immediate area.

Yelp
Such a gem! The chef is highly skilled. French cuisine at its best and at a reasonable price. High value. The restaurant is owned by the head chef and his wife, who is also the only waiter. Being only one waiter, the service can be somewhat slow, but it absolutely worth the wait (and makes it possible to keep the reasonable pricing). Not the biggest place, so you might want to book a table in advance but you might be lucky walking in. Mainly French locals, but the staff does speak some English. A favorite and a gem!

Yelp
With only 41 seats, you wonder how they can make it, but after you have dined there, you will understand why people love it. We happened upon BdM due to an acquaintance who wrote about it. The chef has credentials like you won't believe. We had a luncheon on a cloudy day. Not many people, but we were early Paris time at 12:15. Gracious wife of owner came to seat us (we had reserved through lafourchette), so we were led to one of their cozy tables. Here was our meal: Entrees: White asparagus with sauce mousseline. Sounds standard, but what was delivered was a work of art, and perfect, dotted with some smoked duck breast, and baby greens and a couple of pansy flowers to make it interesting. Perfect white asparagus.. Other entree was tuna morsels marinated in a Yuzu sauce a portion of cous-cous. Loved them both. Plat principals were two: Rognons de veau and dorade. The rognons were like none I have ever had, instead of several small kidneys, it was a good size entire kidney with many lobes. Perfectly pinkish in each one in a delicious mustard sauce and placed on a delicate poached cabbage bed.The dorade was on a bed of a creme mushroom sauce with a side of interesting grains. Then we found out the background of Chef Le Letty. Formerly at Tour d'Argent, famous for it's pressed duck. Chef Letty makes it here to at BdM, 4 days advanced notice, 25Euro supplement. Going for it this weekend! Very affordable prix fix luncheons and excellent affordable wine list GO GO!.

Yelp
When I moved to Paris, I finally got to go to Le Maquis to have lunch with some friends of friends in Chicago. Le Maquis is actually run by other friends of said friends so we got the star treatment. Ludo was serving. I had the greatest steak I'd had in a long time with the most amazing herbed butter and potatoes. Yum! And then he recommended the chocolate volcano cake thing with Grand Marnier so of course I couldn't resist. It was formidable!!! This place seems like a little hole in the wall, but they certainly know what they're doing! Very very charming French restaurant.

Yelp
This restaurant is in the 18eme, it is in the Montmartre area of Paris. The Chef has worked at some of the best Michelin restaurants in Paris such as La Tour D'Argent. Lucky us, he opened up a more affordable restaurant with his wife. The food at this restaurant that is "SIMPLE but SOLID" and more importantly tasty. The Chef's pedigree shows. My favorite dish was the entrée of the "Cassolette d'escargots", which I would go back for in a nano-second. My least favorite was the gesiérs salad, only because I thought the gesiérs were over-cooked, but I can overlook that considering everything else was either very good or just plain excellent. Their "Plat-du-jour" (daily specials) is extremely reasonably priced, with 2-courses for 16€ or all 3-courses for 20€. Would I come back? ABSOLUTELY, I'd come back in a heart beat.
