Our second day in Paris and our second Michelin star restaurant. This just happens to be part of the Rostang group but a very different feel from its fine dining next door neighbor, Maison Rostang. Here the atmosphere is antique chic with many cool collectibles adorning wall shelves including a vast collection of hand cranked coffee mills.
Here they have what is called a 'Formule' either 2 or 3 course meals ranging in E39-46 pp. I started with the bone marrow and frisee salad, which was very rich and flavourful, my husband ordered the classic escargots, which were a first for him. They were perfectly cooked, not rubbery like most places and the garlic pesto sauce was just right, not overpowering. For our mains, I chose the duck breast in pastry with mushroom duxelles and spinach. The duck was just right at medium rare and the mushrooms added another layer of flavour to the duck. The pastry was a little soggy from the gravy and didn't stay on the duck, so the presentation wasn't quite altogether and you weren't exactly sure what it was for a minute before you dug in and tasted the pastry itself!
My husband's crisped pork hock and tendons was a little strange for me. The texture was strange, between sticky chewy, but the smell was even more nauseating. Sorry, but I did not enjoy his dish, but he did, so that's all that really matters, just depends on your palate. The peas seemed a little under cooked and hard, but the fava beans were good.
Dessert was very good, you can really taste the wine used for poaching the pear and the fresh sorbet softened the flavour. All in all a great dining experience.
