I know it’s not a Michelin Star, it’s a « normal » Michelin. Those who follow me know that I only go to Michelin Stars, mainly because I simply do not have the time to go anywhere else with my challenges (follow me and check my other reviews to discover).
So why here? Because I happen to know two of the owners of the restaurant and one day we had discussions about the sector, how hard it is, etc... So three weeks later, I went to have dinner there (I have been already but before my Challenges). Also I wanted to take the opportunity to make a case about having a gastronomic experience while in Paris, regardless of the star.
Let me start by the end for a change: If you read this review, you should go there.
Why? It would be a crime not to enjoy a gastronomic meal while a Paris. It would be like visiting Paris but not seing the Eiffel tower. Great food is more important in the French culture than the Eiffel Tower. Ask any French if they would rather loose their gastronomic heritage or the Eiffel Tower, and you’ll find yourself with a lot of metal to scrape!
But there are a lot of restaurants and not all are « gastronomic ». There’s a lot that are here to cater tourists, some to just cater people in the district, some just to see/be seen (and be fashionable), some to eat fast, but you will not necessarily have a real gastronomic experience. So how do you make sure you really go in a restaurant worthwhile?
My usual answer is : Go to a Michelin star. But I understand that you may have some constraints (price, time or more likely no reservations). In that case, I strongly suggest that you go for a « normal » Michelin.
Take this one, which makes a strong case.
The menu was designed by a MOF (the highest distinction in France for a Chef), and executed by a great young chef. Look at my pictures /videos and try the Ceviche for example, you’ll understand that you are in a place where the focus is on the plate first: you are in a gastronomic. And then, like a Michelin, you’ll also have the service that goes with (with a smile in this particular case). And, you’ll have a nice setting (in that case, the restaurant walls are used by a modern art gallery).
It looks modern, the service is great but the real focus is on the food and you having a gastronomic experience.
Bottom line if you’re reading this looking for a place to eat and yet enjoy the most important of the French heritage, Gastronomy : Go there.
I think it’s valid for most of the restaurants listed in Michelin, because they usually do a great job. But the difference is that I’ve tried this one.
Ps: I may continue to try non star Michelin because there’s something refreshing about them.
