"COVID-19 Update: Open for takeout. You would think that Malibu would be overflowing with ice cream. But quality scoops are few and far between once Santa Monica is in your rearview mirror. Enter Le Café de la Plage. The owners swapped the perfumed fields of Provence for the Point Dume bluffs and their dairy (and nondairy) scoops are out of this world. Lychee, rose, fresh fig, pineapple and basil…you name it. Creamy delights aside, if you stop in for breakfast (they’re open from 8 a.m.) the bread and pastries are fresh out of the Gjusta oven—all the tastiness minus the insane line. COVID-19 Disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. Very cute coffee shop located in a shopping plaza off of Pacific Coast Highway. The coffees were very good and the avocado toast was great as well. We liked it so much we decided to come back the next day for breakfast. We again were not disappointed. The coffee was again fantastic and I ordered an omelet this time around which was very good and fresh. There is ample seating located outside to sit and relax while you enjoy your meal.

Le Cafe de la Plage in Malibu surpassed our expectations during our visit on Mother's Day. Despite being incredibly busy, the staff managed to provide us with an excellent experience. The drip coffee we ordered was simply outstanding, delivering a rich and aromatic flavor that awakened our senses. The ambiance of the cafe, coupled with the beautiful beachside location, created a serene and relaxing atmosphere. The staff remained attentive and friendly, ensuring that our needs were met even during the bustling holiday rush. We left Le Cafe de la Plage feeling satisfied and impressed by their commitment to delivering exceptional service, making it a must-visit spot for coffee enthusiasts and those seeking a delightful seaside experience. Only good vibes

Visited from Chicago and started the day with a sunrise hike at Point Dume. Afterward, we decided to check this place out on a whim, and it was such a refreshing way to cap off a beautiful morning. We got the lavender latte, matcha latte, avocado toast, and goat cheese omelette. Everything tasted super fresh and was beautifully presented.

Google
Cute little coffee place., very busy, and crowded. Staff is friendly, the layout is very confusing, offerings were good from sandwiches to breakfast, to ice cream. Not a clear distinction where to pick up food orders or drink orders or to buy ice cream. Lots of kids and teenagers. Available outdoor seating in the courtyard. Food quality was good, long wait 20-30 mins

Google
I would say as far as my experience here would go. They are okay me and my wife picked up two lattes shared a sandwich and had some baked goods. One thing I will say is their wait time can definitely be very long, so definitely anticipate that. Especially for a hot sandwich like longer than you think. I think we waited 15 to 20 minutes for the sandwich. My wife did love her sandwich. I thought it was okay and the coffee was decent. I got a oat rose cold brew and I believe my wife got a caramel latte which she liked I can definitely say the baked goods tasted better. I did enjoy my lemon loaf very much I would come back to give them another shot although I will say they can get very busy especially on the weekends so definitely factor that interior time

Le Cafe de la Plage Malibu was the perfect beach cafe to meet up girlfriends, enjoy the delish eats (and even bring our eats to enjoy at Point Dume!), and experience only good vibes!! We all raved about what we ordered, from the French sandwiches, to the breakfast sandwiches, to the breakfast bowls. The ice creams and my latte were so delish as well!! Thanks to our gf for the amazing recommendation!! Ordered: Beignets: Sugar, Berry, & Chocolate Scrambled Eggs & Lox Sandwich Choco Dream Ice Cream (not pictured) Magic Unicorn Ice Cream (not pictured) French Toast Latte (not pictured)

Overall really lovely experience with the wafting smell of baked breads everywhere. Enjoyed some pastries and breakfast but felt the price was a little high. Coffee was great and the almond croissant in particular was very enjoyable. Very cute store that is perfect for a brunch date with ample outdoor seating. However, food service time was a little awkward as a friend and I ordered together, the same food items, but we were served 10 minutes apart.

Google
This place is super cute and such a great stop. Their ice cream flavors and pastries are amazing. Super friendly staff who made helpful suggestions. The coffee is great too.

Yelp
They didn't forget that I ordered a ficelle this time! First time in the 4 times I've been here that I didn't have to argue with staff that "yes, I ordered" and "no, I never got it coz you were warming it up and was gonna call me". Might be because it was NOT busy during this visit. No line to order. No wait for pick up our food. You might surmise that their FICELLE is great because I still get their ficelle every single time. Chocolate Scone is delicious and has excellent texture. Free parking lot in this center.

Yelp
The pictures are a bit deceiving.. they make it seem like the food will be plated. But in reality, it's take-out only. The hand-made ice cream was so-so. I tried some flavors and some were icy, as if they'd just been sitting there without being stirred for a long time. I got the house-made caramel, since that was the only non-icy one. The sunrise sandwich was mediocre, lacking in flavor. The burrata toast was good, but the bread was hard. All in all, it was just okay. A bit disappointing since I had high hopes.

Yelp
We come here for the ice cream whenever we are going to the beach! The salted Carmel and the black vanilla are amazing! It is a little pricy but for a special treat it is fun! There are ample tables and benches outside and there are pastries and baguette sandwiches if you're hungry. They have bottled soda and ice cream for taking home as well. There is usually a line but the employees are pretty quick and efficient

Yelp
Amazing hand crafted food with that Malibu ambiance that makes a regular lunch feel like a 5 star occasion. Service was amazing and price was well Malibu pricing!

Yelp
Wow! This place is incredible! They have the most delicious in house pastries (today I had the matcha blueberry loaf). The owners wife makes them! I am gluten free and this one was gluten free which is amazing! Their coffee hits the spot, and they do that cute design on top of their hot drinks. The staff is so friendly, explain everything for first timers and you can tell they make your items with love. Bonus- they have THE CUTEST merch!!! I grabbed a hoodie and a hat! 10/10 recommend! I'll be coming back for lunch with my littles next so we can try more menu items

Yelp
Food was yummy and service was great :) I came in for breakfast and the young man who helped me was informative and kind and help me pick a delicious meal!!

Yelp
Cute location, interior. Service was soso. Came here because the baguettes looked amazing. In reality, looks nothing like pictured!!! They're also super thin but tastes ok. We also had to wait for a new batch of baguettes, almost 20 minutes. We weren't informed that they ran out when ordered. We needed up waiting forever and ordered a sourdough sandwich. Sadly, both sourdoughs were hard as a rock! They were out of a lot of baked goods too and we got there around 3. Not sure if the display case is refrigerated but they pulled out one of our sandwiches from there... maybe that's why it was so hard. Not sure if I'd come back.

Yelp
I discovered @lecafedelaplagemalibu along PCH while visiting #malibu and uncovered their signature French Toast Latte + Local Beach Vibe Coffee Shop + French Pastries and Cafe Food Favorites + Ice Cream! The service is friendly and location is next a Vons so it's super useful when picking up groceries last minute! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0rT308rBcl/?igsh=MzY1NDJmNzMyNQ==

Yelp
Charming little cafe by the beach, as the name says. Delicious baguette sandwiches, just like the kind you see in Paris. Lots of pastries and cafe drinks. Not sure that they can do anything about the flies, but they should try... there are flies all over the place... inside, outside. My salad and quiche took a very long time to prepare... wish I knew I'd have to wait over 10-15 for my salad, but it was delicious.

Yelp
Pros: -nice looking store. -pastry and food cold case well displayed -cool idea to have malibu and flowers on wall for pics -good marketing. Merchandise etc. - Cons: -flow makes no sense. Over crowded. Line out the door. Menus not provided before ordering -food was horrible after waiting forever -quiche was dry and burned. -food not as pictured -staff had poor attitudes and blamed eachother. -poor ordering system. Staff who took order forgot to make the requested updates to order -photos from business online of drink art was NOT what we received in store and was the only resin we went here -once we asked about food timing after wifi b 30 minutes for take out food the girl seemed annoyed -we returned food for a "partial" refund - Will I return: NEVER

Yelp
Great service, really nice staff, super cute spot w/ a ton of outdoor tables to have breakfast or lunch. I love this little tucked away nook.

Vivian E.

Yelp
Great service, kind staff, and such a beautiful location. The matcha just wasn't for me, but please give it a chance and try everything else! The pastries are delicious.

Maximilien S.

Yelp
The service was great I started with matcha latte, it was really good. The lunch is amazing. I've been going there, a staple to me. Great vibe, great management, Thank you for being open

Yelp
Stopped by this super cute cafe for some breakfast and grab n go items for the beach. Located in the Pavillions shopping center which was pretty packed on a Saturday morning. Stood in line, placed our order, and found a cute shaded table in the courtyard. Hubby had the scrambled eggs and lox which he loved.. it was on a beautiful brioche with some yummy avocado. I had the goat cheese omelette which was filled with spinach, onions and mushrooms. Breakfast was great coffee was good. Was kindof hard to eat our food with the sustainable wood cutlery lol but whatever helps the cause. Now the not so good.. ordered some beignets (they come 3 to an order) and despite other reviews they aren't worth the hype. They're barely filled and just whatevs. We also saw some pretty sandwiches in the display case and grabbed a couple for the afternoon at the beach. They were freaking expensive. By the time we went to eat them, the bread was hard as a rock!!! I'd recommend steering clear of those 15-20 dollar French sandwiches.
google avatar

Yelp
The pastries here are so delicious and super affordable. There are many varieties and definitely something for everyone. The service was good and fast, and the ambiance was good. Come here if you can!
google avatar

Leslie C.

Yelp
This was my second time here, I didn't think it would end up being worse than my first visit. I feel like the pastries have gotten smaller and the food in general is just bad. As a chef in Los Angeles with over 20 years in the industry, I tend to give places the benefit of the doubt. However, when you walk into an establishment and they have their produce order sitting in the middle of the floor the entire time of your visit with visible milk being left to come to room temperature, one is left only to wonder what other horrible health code violations are happening behind the scenes. I believe she was the manager however the blonde with the tattoos needs a few more manager workshops before she speaks to any more customers.
google avatar

MaryLou F.

Yelp
The waitstaff is nice but getting food is challenging when it is busy. Their salad niçoise is falsely advertised. They have no made to order salads...they are pre-made salads and none resemble salade niçoise...no potatoes and no green beans, just lettuce, olives, 3 pieces of tomato, and tuna.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the few coffee places still open on a Saturday late afternoon/early evening. Not very spacious inside aside from a long table with a few stools, while outside they have several small tables for use. Since it was warm out, most people were ordering the ice cream they had to the side. Though that was tempting, settled instead on an Iced Coffee ($5ish) and a Chocolate Chip Cookie ($?). Coffee is straight forward, a bit bitter but strong. Cookie is large and has the right amount of sweetness - would have liked more chocolate chips. Service here is friendly, and they have some.high priced swag for sale as well. Looks like they have a full menu for breakfast that would be great if you don't have a big group.
google avatar

Yelp
Love their Ficelle sandwiches. It's made fresh hourly and ready to go. When in the area we grab a few for the road. They are delicious. The coffee The ice cream and The desserts are all delicious and worth the calories. Treat yourself, you deserve it. Great service Great ambiance Great location Close to point dume hiking trail.

Yelp
Went for a post dinner drink. Very friendly bar tender! It was the end of the evening so it was a little quieter than I recall. Fun place to hang and great location. 5/5

Yelp
The best sandwiches!! The service is great, the ambiance is ok, outdoor courtyard kind of Malibu local hangout. Quick and easy.

Yelp
Quick stop on the way to take my friend to LAX. It was nice to show her my favorite Malibu coffee spot. So Good vibes only spot

Yelp
ok so im not familiar with malibu.. its super freaking far! ugh this is why i hate going to la 2 hours in traffic! in shopping center with minimal parking. i hate having to hunt down parking. theres stuff everywhere super overwhelming. cute merch but i got a sweatshirt. its supposed to be xl (i like my stuff big) all their sizes were like xxs. wtf! like everything runs super small ugh wtf! be true to size please!! i order a turkey brie sandwich. legit horrible! its basically hard dry bread with pesto and a little bit or turkey. even after washing my hands they are still oily and gross. i decided to get an ice lavender honey latte. i dont think theres any espresso in here. very watery. i get 2 hats, 1 sweatshirt, 1 drink and 1 sandwich: $150. welcome to la where everyone is loaded. i really didnt wanna spend almost $200 in a coffee shop. young blonde worker with tattoos very sweet and nice and worker with foreign accent very nice. good hospitality. i would come back

Arpi K.

Yelp
I love stopping by this cafe before going to the beach. The matcha is yummy (I always get it with lavender) and their avocado toast is my go to! People are friendly and over all it's a pleasant environment. One of my fave cafes in Malibu.
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
Went to lilys malibu to get some burritos and the smell from the cafe was divine and had to go in. Bought some carrot cake , cookie, and beignet for the beach. The berry Beignet was superb. Was super flavorful but not overly sweet 10/10. As was the chocolate cookie. Buttery and delicious without overwhelming sweetness. Carrot cake was one of the best I have. All of it was so so good. Came back for coffee after. Service was superb and the girl in front remembered my bud and I from earlier. Super personable and attentive. Will visit again.
google avatar

Thuong T.

Yelp
Tasty, but expensive. About $7 for a coffee, and another $7 for each pastry. Yikes! Long lines, expect at least 20-30min wait. I tried the Honey Lavender Latte, both cold and hot. It was a subtle flavor but rich and creamy. And the spinach danish was also tasty, but very small and thin for the price tbh.
google avatar

Erica R.

Yelp
This cute little cafe is everything I was hoping to be. Food was delicious. Fresh, flavorful and just perfect. Cappuccino was also very good. They have tables available outside near the fountain- that's so relaxing. Staff is very friendly and helpful in picking the food from the menu. They recommend Turkey Club Sandwich and that's what I ordered- and OMG...it was soooo good! MUST TRY Parking is easy. My friend ordered flatbread sandwich and she loved it too.
google avatar

Tu-Quyen P.

Yelp
Adorable cafe with "only good vibes" and super friendly service, the outdoor seating gives you ocean breezes in a cute plaza. The French Toast iced latte with matcha is so delicious, and paired so well with their truffle burrata baguette and caramel beignets. I also loved my salted caramel and almond ice cream. The perfect lunch spot for a beach day in Malibu!
google avatar

Hannah S.

Yelp
Berry Beignets - you need these in your life!! They were so good that I turned the car around and went back for more to take home to family lol! And the owners are just fantastic people! They were so kind and welcoming to me!! So here's a big shout out to them on this #thankyouthursday!! Y'all made my day! I absolutely LOVE the French vibes of this cafe!! Their decor and ambiance is so quaint! This is an extremely lively shop - it fills up fast. They have a huge, opulent flower wall for photo ops. And they have great outdoor seating around a courtyard with a lovely water fountain. I also tried a Rose Almond Latte and it was very good. I could only taste a slight hint of rose so that's my only complaint - I like a heavy rose flavor - but their coffee is delicious. And they serve so much more - breakfast, quiche, huge sandwiches, macarons, and homemade ice cream! They're located in a very busy Pavillions shopping center right off of PCH with plenty of parking. They offer vegan options even for the ice cream with flavors like rose raspberry lychee and mango Passionfruit - sounds fantastic! I'll definitely be back to try some of that! And to get more of those mixed Berry beignets!
google avatar

Yelp
What a cute cafe in Malibu. Line is out the door and decor was nice with a selfie station and so much to choose from on the menu. While there we saw an NBA star ordering from the cafe too. Has a cute line of merchandise but a little for the sweatshirt. Had the lavender latte with oat milk and it wad good. Also had the lavender blueberry ice cream which they also make quite yummy. Daughter had the ice cream sandwich and we also had macaron and beignets. Friendly staff but gets busy. Will definitely visit again when in Malibu.

Yelp
Oh Cafe De La Plage, how I missed you. Ever since I found my way through your doors 3 weeks ago I made it a habit to frequent this café eatery on a hebdomadal basis; that is, every Friday when me and my associate have a morning business meeting in Malibu. And whilst I will admit, I am a nighttime eater, the sandwiches at "The Plage" are too good to resist. I ordered the turkey sandwich, which came with Brie, dried peppers, and arugula, meticulously placed on one of the crunchiest baguettes I've had in awhile. The lovely associate at the counter offered to heat it up, and I obliged with willingness and excitement. The result, a warm sandwich with melted Brie that popped in flavor, counteracting the stringy , smoked turkey flavor of the turkey. The mixture of the bread, Brie, and turkey made for the most delectable sandwich experience I have ever had. For dessert I got a doughy ball filled with jelly, and one with chocolate. It is the best thing I've ever had, and I am not a dessert person. To wash it down I ordered a cold brew, with a whipped cream-like substance floating on top. The lovely associate with the ocean-blue eyes that pierced my soul informed me that it had been brewed for 17 hours. This is decently long, but I prefer 24 hour cold brews, so I was curious how it would taste. And while I will admit the cream substance diluted the original cold brew taste, it was in a complimentary manner. It was like I was drinking a cold brew milkshake. Thank you so much for this experience, Cafe De La Plage, and all the beautiful woman that made this experience that much better. Although this need not be expressed, I will make sure to be back here, next Friday, same time, god willing. Thank you.

Vanessa P.

Yelp
This cafe is an amazing place to visit. They have the best pastries, macaroons, & carrot cake. You will have the best time enjoying your beverage & treat in the courtyard. Must try the honey lavender latte!
google avatar

Marc G.

Yelp
Such a great little place with so much heart and deliciousness. Add the Honey Lavender Latte to my favorite coffee drink list.
google avatar

Zoowee M.

Yelp
Great food but very slow service. Additionally the prices on their menus were inconsistent from what was posted at the door, and what I paid at the register. All of the menu items are provided in recyclable containers, with compostable utensils. I was upset to find out that there is no compost disposal bin. It's great those items are provided but they end up in a land fill anyways without a compost option! I felt like an idiot having to toss my compostable items into a trash like any other single use plastic. This should be an easy fix for the business that I would like to see utilized.
google avatar

Kat B.

Yelp
This place is too cute and you already know i def took advantage of their photo op! Lol They have beignets and ice cream and so much variety of ice cream, pastries, and sammiches! The inside of this place is super cute and def good vibes only! I tried the plain beignets and they were delish! Also, tried their avocado toast and was def yummy! Their parking space is a bit small as its shared with other restaurants in this plaza but i was able to find street parking across the street! Its a busy intersection so be careful when crossing and look both ways lol Next time I def wanna try their ice cream those waffle cones are looking good!
google avatar

Guido K.

Yelp
My new favorite breakfast hang-out. Not cheap - but who really wants CHEAP? I had one of the best Latte Macciatos I ever had - their subs were crunchy and delicious, can't wait to go again. Service was very friendly - and the ambiance was very nice. Would I do a 30-minute detour just to eat here (mandatory in my rating scheme to achieve 5 stars)? I certainly would (and just did ;-)
google avatar

Hanna S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious oatmeal latte. I really appreciate that their mocha is listed as a vegan mocha so no need to ask them about the ingredients in the chocolate. The case look good but probably not many vegan options. Nice vibe and appealing interior. Plenty of places to sit outside. Definitely a bit of a locals feel.
google avatar

Robert M.

Yelp
Wowaweewa, this place was off the chain. The bursts toast was out of this world. The pesto mozzarella tomato toast was amazing and the eggs Benedict with prishuto was pretty unbelievable. Overall we will be back for certain!
google avatar

Jackson U.

Yelp
Cute cafe in Malibu not too far from the beach, amazing and delicious assortment of sandwich and pastries. It is a bustling atmosphere but there a relaxing patio with seating in the courtyard. Can't go wrong with the turkey club. 9/10
google avatar

Yelp
Listen I am not one of those people who like to complain about my food taking forever to come out. I get why this happens I myself have delt with rushes where so much food gets ordered. But today, I will be one of those people. I will say the employees seemed really nice and that they were quite stressed out with this rush. With that being said, it took almost 1 hour for my avocado toast to be made. One hour. That is completely unacceptable. I've made avocado toast myself multiple times it does not take that long. I ordered avocado toast at the airport once and that took maybe 10 minutes if that. Waiting almost an hour for a piece of bread with avocado on it is a joke. And I get it, the kitchen is small but the food menu is bigger than the coffee menu. You cannot use the excuse that this is a coffee place exclusively. When it did finally come out the bread was burned. The avocado was avocado nothing special. Next time I recommend that the people on cash register give a heads up to everyone who orders something from the kitchen that it will take over 30 minutes. Not worth it at all. My parents also ordered the sandwiches that are up front that they throw into the warmer and I was told that the bread was hard too. The crookie was good I did like that. Besides the Frankenstein cookie, I would not recommend this place in the slightest.
google avatar

Audra N.

Yelp
Casual spot to grab a quick breakfast. They have an assortment of pastries, ice cream, and common light breakfast eats like avocado toast and yummy lattes, cappuccinos, etc. there's outdoor seating - some with heating on a cold day. They serve food on recycling friendly plateware and flatware. My friend had the burrata toast and said it was delicious. The avocado toast looked beautiful and was also a good size portion with a fresh salad, but the flavors of the avocado purée were ok ($14). Lavender honey latte with almond milk was very good - just missing a fancy foam design. :) it's a great location after a Malibu hike!
google avatar

Mako S.

Yelp
This place truly really mastered their Avo toast - they're generous with the portion and present it in an appealing flower pattern. Also the taste? Absolutely fantastic! If I ever find myself in the Malibu area again, there's no doubt I'll be revisiting this spot for another round of their bomb avocado toast.
google avatar

Tara B.

Yelp
This is a great spot for anyone who loves great coffee, great food and a great location! This is my favourite spot in Malibu. If you're a local, you will bump into someone you know. Every now and then you might even see somebody famous. I know I have! Owen Wilson is the one I've seen repeatedly! I suggest though that you aren't attached to seeing anyone, this is a space to enjoy the day and BE in the moment.
google avatar

Aimee C.

Yelp
This place is so cute and all of the pastries look so good. There is plenty of outdoor seating. The workers were friendly. The coffee was good (they brew Intelligencia). I got some hazelnut beignets because the barista said they go quick. The only thing is they aren't quite beignets. The dough is more similar to a soft pillowy donut then a beignets but still delicious.
google avatar

Wolf G.

Yelp
Eggs Benedict was delish! Staff is friendly and ambience good. Great spot for brunch.
google avatar

Kate L.

Yelp
We came here on vacation and loved the experience. First, they were willing to accommodate food allergies by washing the ice cream scooper. Secondly, they have unique ice cream flavors that are delicious as well as other desserts (beignets, macarons.) And it's a cute shop with outdoor seating.

Chris T.

Yelp
Considering how high they have things priced you would think they would put some more effort into customer service the blonde with tattoos that was helping me was very rude and seemed to be in a rush, I had never been there so naturally I had some questions but all she could do was recite the menu. None of the staff looked pleased to be there. I came to get a sandwich but after a certain time (apparently everyday is a little different today was a little before 3pm) they close the kitchen! The scone I ended up with was stale, the puff pastry I wanted only came in quantities of 3? These definitely had sat for some time and was becoming mush more than anything, probably why they were the only things left. Can't forget to mention they don't accept cash! Beware!

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch after an outing to Leo Carrillo State Park, thanks to a recommendation from a friend. It did not disappoint and was the perfect setting. There's a small storefront where you order, then look for outdoor seating - they will bring your food to you; just listen for your name. There's also a single restroom inside the store that is very well kept, as others have mentioned. Though I'm not a millennial, I am a huge avocado toast aficionado, so I had to try their version. It did not disappoint. The presentation was beautiful, and they were extremely generous with the avocado. They do use some kind of a vinaigrette for flavoring, so if that's not your jam, you've been warned. I could barely finish my serving and had no room left over for the salad. My husband got the turkey club, which I thought sounded boring, but it turns out he had the winning dish. The honey mustard really brought all the flavors together, and he had a fair amount of avocado in his sandwich too. I might get this next time. Child wanted a ficelle with prosciutto and cheese but she has an "allergy" to greens, so the staff was kind enough to have the kitchen remove the greens and heat up the sandwich for her. She was a happy kiddo. For dessert, we tried three flavors of "ice cream" (I think it's really sorbet since it's vegan) - raspberry rose lychee, mango passion, and strawberry fresh mint. The raspberry rose lychee was my favorite, but they were all good. They were pretty busy for lunch on a Thursday, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were packed on a weekend. The tables were nice and spread out, and the staff still wore masks. Would recommend this cafe to anyone coming to the Malibu area.
