I really enjoy dropping n here for lunch as their house baguettes are some of the best fresh, light and crispy bread around town… and their soup is a nice, original, savory pairing. I’ve also had a couple of great salads here and love some of the Mediterranean underpinnings in the ingredients where it’s also an added upside that the kitchen is halal. A perfect little neighborhood cafe with the right amount of originality and pleasant surprises in a casual setup at fair price points. It’s a plus that they have a compact menu, and take care with what they prepare without wasting time on a giant menu that over reaches. Enjoy.

Really great atmosphere in the heart of the Heights. Food is delicious and service is excellent. Got a smoked salmon benedict and my fiancée got the falafel baguette. They were both delicious and very juicy. Mine came with a side of greens topped with a vinaigrette sauce which was to die for. Highly recommend this place!

Google
This is the best French toast in the city. My only complaint is that their menu doesn’t quite match, their subs are good but lack good sides. The French toast is excellent but there’s nothing else on the menu that seems to go along with it. It’s like a someone opened a sandwich shop and said you know I make a really good French toast and put it on the menu. Update. The last few times I’ve been here they have not added the sauces that usually come on the French toast. Which makes it a bit dry. It used to have a vanilla sauce and like a caramel sauce.

My partner and I had a wonderful brunch. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Baguette with Avocado which with a little salt and pepper was conquered with only crumbs remaining. Yummy My lady ordered the Breakfast Croissant, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Also came with a salad that I cleaned up for her. 😁 Friendly service, great decor, chill vibes, and outstanding food.

Google
Overall, the experience was great! The food was tasty, though the portions were smaller than expected for the price. I was also a bit disappointed that the hot chocolate coffee wasn’t made with milk—it was just hot water. But still, thanks for the delicious food!

Google
Great place to have a Saturday breakfast. I had a fantastic salmon baguette and my wife had omelette. Both amazing and have to mention how fresh was the bread. Really outstanding! Service was mean, nothing to be remembered…

My husband and I just returned from France and were in need of a baguette. Stopped by Le café joséphine to satisfy our craving. Delicious breakfast, lattes, and pastries. I took a large sized cookie to go. Quiet space with two outlets if you need to work remotely. I am down the street daily while I wait for my child to get out of school, and can’t believe I have never been until today. Hardly see anyone when I drive by throughout the day so I hope this cafe stays open. 🙏🏽 📍201 E 20th St, Houston, TX 77008 Open daily 8am - 4pm

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for brunch and the ambiance and food was absolutely perfect. I ordered the french toast which I loved that it wasn't too sweet and my boyfriend ordered the smoked salmon baguette which dipped with the hot sauce made for a good kick! We also went through a medical incident during our time there and the staff as well as the customers came to our help immediately. Everything ended up being okay but we are ever so grateful for everyone there who jumped right in. If we could give y'all 10 stars, we would. Thank you, & God bless you all

Yelp
Le Café Josephine is where you go if you want a casual and high quality lunch. It's casual in the sense that it's counter service with no frills tables; it's a chill atmosphere. It caters to an interesting clientele of people doing work, retirees meeting for lunch in the middle of the day, and solo diners just needing a good meal. The Poulet Classique sandwich is the star of the menu. I highly recommend.

Yelp
5/5 Yum! I came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning, and it was a delightful experience. The ambiance is charming and cozy, with beautiful artwork adding to the quaint vibe. I ordered the breakfast croissant with smoked salmon, and it was perfection! The spicy mayo sauce added just the right kick, making every bite flavorful and memorable. Highly recommend this spot for a relaxed, tasty breakfast--I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Such a little neighborhood gem! Everything we tried was phenomenal: The pear salad: refreshing and filling Brioche French toast: beautifully plated and it's delicious. Poulet classique baguette: perfectly warm crispy baguette with melted Swiss cheese, marinated chicken, big slices of avocado, and other vegetables. Super filling and delicious! The highlight here was the Banana Foster Latte and the opera cake! One of the best lattes ever, not too sweet, just perfect. And you can't go wrong with the classic opera cake. What a great place for a relaxing weekend brunch. Good food and laidback atmosphere.

Yelp
Cute cafe! We went for breakfast and loved it. We bag had a baguette and the bread was soft. The tomato sauce in the meatball one was very fresh. The scallion jam or whatever it is in the (breakfast baguette) one with beef bacon, egg, and avocado baguette is amazing. I just want to eat that! The beef bacon was a little hard, borderline jerky like, but good. The place is very cute. Plenty of seating. Staff was nice. Food came out fast. I'll definitely be back. Great ambiance to chill and have a solid meal with friends and family. And food is normal priced and they have a wide array of hot and cold drinks.

Yelp
Super cute place for breakfast or lunch. You come in and order at the cashier then your food gets delivered to your table. We got eggs, hashbrowns, and pancakes. Plenty of seating and very clean. I love their nice spacious decor and lighting. There was a lady speaking really loudly at the next table which made it a little hard for us to enjoy our meal but we ended up eating and leaving shortly afterwards. I could come here again.

Yelp
We will be returning because I loved the vibes of this cafe. Kept it simple and light this time around but all was yummy. The staff was friendly and everything was so clean.

Yelp
What a cool little place. Very quaint. Very European. The breakfast was great. Stopped in for Saturday brunch, my wife and we both enjoyed every bite of our meal. It's counter service, so you order then sit down and they bring it to you. The prices are above average, but the food was way above. Worth every penny.
google avatar

Yelp
Quaint little cafe with good brunch. I got the matcha latte hot. It was yummy. The breakfast croissant was also delish. I initially got the beef bacon but it came burnt and they said that's just how beef bacon is so I switched to the turkey. I'm sorry but it is possible to not burn bacon. Parking was easy. Service was friendly. It's cafeteria style so you order at the counter and then sit down.

Yelp
Shouts out to Josephine's for their own lot and easy parking here in H-town! Stopped by for breakfast to go and ordered the Philly cheesesteak for the hubs, and breakfast sandwich (smoked salmon, egg, cheese, and avocado on a croissant w/ a side of potatoes) for myself. PTETTY TASTY! Service was fast and friendly. The order came out quickly, just as described, and packed up with care. All in all, fantastic and definitely worth a repeat visit. Cheers!

Yelp
Merguez sausage baguette - 8/10 - $15 - Reminded me of a kolache or hot dog. It was delicious but i would get it without olives next time. Beef bacon croissant - 8/10 - $15.50 - Tasty with a lot of stuff in it but could use more flavor. Food was pretty good and they had a lot of items on their menu. They are 100% halal. Food is overpriced but would recommend if youre in the area looking for halal brunch.

Sameet R.

Yelp
We came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. There was plenty of parking and the service was fine. We tried the breakfast baguette with beef bacon, smoked salmon, baguette, poulet (chicken sammich) baguette, and apple crumble tart. Their chicken sandwich was probably the best thing there mostly because the bread is nice and crunchy. I didn't really care for the apple tart there because I like pastries offered and the other area cafes.
google avatar

Jacob D.

Yelp
Plenty of parking here at this Moroccan themed restaurant. Plenty of French and North African inspiration in the art on the walls. Feels very Casablanca. Walk up counter ordering style. Menu is focused on baguette's sandwiches of both the savory and some sweet variety. A couple of breakfast and brunch options are there as well. Coffees are made to order and brought out to you. Thought that the food was a little lack luster. The smoked salmon Benedict didn't have enough salmon for my taste while being heavy on the hollandaise. The sandwiches looked a little bready. Coffees were good and the food came out quickly.

Yelp
My husband and I got breakfast at Le Cafe Josephine a few days ago. The poulet was amazing according to him; and I can assure you that the Benedict was. Although a bit salty due to the topping, it was perfectly creamy, warm and still toasted. The fact that everything is 100% halal is also a plus. It's a pretty cool area that reminded us of São Paulo: laidback, but very modern. The price was also relatively cheap for the Heights area! 10/10, would definitely go again. And again. And again.

Yelp
Located in the heart of the Heights (a little bit out of the way towards the east side), it's a quaint cafe opposite Jun and close to the happenings on Heights/Yale. Parking is available in their adjacent lot and it's pretty open. Interior is a take on a modern/rustic millennial friendly vibe. Not the biggest fan but it was alright. Service is at a minimum, it's pretty much self serve/ order and get food here. There's a few coffee options and brunch items as well. Got a matcha latte and the fig and Brie baguette here. A bit disappointed by how meh and unimaginative the sandwich was even though it had potential with the current ingredients. Could definitely think of a few easy tweaks to the recipe to really take the flavor profile to the next level. At my table, there was the salmon Benedict ordered and avocado toast ordered. Both received somewhat lukewarm reviewed; especially the balsamic vinegar on the avocado toast/eggs being a very strange combo. Not the best food and coffee in the area, and the menu is a bit underwhelming, but it's a convenient option if you live nearby.

Yelp
I tried their baked cheesecake and crème brûlée latte, and they were okay, nothing special. I gave them 3 stars because of the service. After 15 minutes, they brought my latte but forgot to bring the cheesecake until I reminded them. Moreover, the latte was too sweet for me and not hot enough.
google avatar

Yelp
Oh my goodness, this place is amazing! We had lunch here before the Heights Home tour. Super friendly employees and the food was so good! I got the smoked salmon with avocado on a baguette. Everything was so fresh, and the bread was crunchy and delicious!!! We will return!
google avatar

Nancyrae S.

Yelp
Took a client to lunch and they recommended this delish restaurant! Definitely a repeat! The restaurant is situated in an unassuming older Heights building on the corner - charming inside - and adequate lot and street parking. We both had the Poulet Classique Baguette - the baguette was crisp and soft - ingredients so fresh! The parmesan fries were the perfect mix of all flavors, and the side order of falafel...it's a MUST TRY! I could literally go back just for the fries and falafel! The personnel were nice and customer service oriented. I'm telling my friends and planning a girls lunch!
google avatar

Yelp
This one gets my Award! Also ( clean Award) My food was very fresh, delicious and great ambiance. What more can you ask for. I am so coming back. Everything was perfection!

Yelp
First off, I'm a first time visitor to Cafe Josephine, but it won't be my last. Came with a co-worker for Lunch today, she had the Eggs Benedict and Salad. They looked amazing, and the plating of the dish looked suitable for inclusion in a cooking magazine! Absolutely beautiful! She said they were great! I had the Philly Cheesesteak and Sweet Potato Fries and they were the best I have ever tried anywhere. Not the traditional Cheesesteak, but one done with a Garlic Buttered Baguette! It was fantastic!!! Super clean everything, with an interesting decor, and very quick and friendly Counter service. My only 'complaint' is that I would have liked to be offered a Tea refill. No one circulates around doing that task in this establishment. You must return to the Counter and request them yourselves even though the Counter Terminal has the automatic "Tip" box pop-up when you order and pay for your meal at the Counter. Noted for next time. Go for the Food, go for the Ambience, go for the friendly Counter Service, but just remember this is a self-serve establishment essentially, so set your expectations on Service.
google avatar

Carolina B.

Yelp
Very cute place for breakfast. Counter service with plenty of indoor seating and windows. Nice staff and good food. We got a blueberry muffin (it was ok) and the breakfast plate with sausage (I thought it was a bit gamey, but I'm not into that) and I had the avocado toast. It was decent, but nowhere near the best I've ever had. I tried the creme brûlée cappuccino and while it was good, it was overly sweet.
google avatar

Thuy P.

Yelp
We decided to eat at the heights and randomly found this place. To our surprise this place is good. Strongly recommended the carb and shrimp baguettes and the Nutella ice coffee was good too. I had a mix up on the crème brûlée drink that didn't look as in the picture advertised on the menu card but the staffs resolved it . Nice ambiance.
google avatar

Sally L.

Yelp
Best bread ever but after all, it IS French. Marie is the sweetest and has her own special "S'mores" latte she made me! All was delish.
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
Modern French cafe meets Houston Heights. The food is tasteful, plentiful, and the vibe is relaxing. The prices are decent for the portions that are provided. The baguette bread always has that nice crispiness to it that takes your sandwich to that next level. Two yums up!

Mary C.

Yelp
We had a huge bowl of soup and sandwich. It was excellent. We share/ we just don't eat huge lunches. Service was great and like the atmosphere!
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
Some of the best food in the region. Super quality in this hometown style "café" which is a misnomer. It's just a darn good restaurant. Go enjoy. Reservations are highly recommend recommended.
google avatar

Yelp
It was a wonderful experience eating here. I came in for brunch on a Tuesday, and there was plenty of room in their parking lot. The space is clean, well-lit, and open. It's a perfect place to get work done. I decided to order the pain perdu and the Moroccan merguez baguette. The pain perdu was perfect. It was plated elegantly and had just the right amount of sweetness. I enjoyed every bite. I was torn between all of the halal baguette options, but I'm so glad with the choice I made. The Moroccan merguez baguette was excellent. The lamb sausage was seasoned perfectly and I thought it was complemented well by the Kalamata olives and sautéed mushrooms. The bread was just right - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I will definitely tell all of my friends about this spot. I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Aalia A.

Yelp
Little gem of a place a friend introduced me to. It's a cozy spot with a hip vibe and limited seating. You order at the counter before choosing a seat, so minimum service. The folks behind the counter were nice enough. I had an omelet with Moroccan sausage. It was ok. I also ordered the matcha, which I found a little too sweet. Everything is halal, which is a bonus.
google avatar

A.S. V.

Yelp
Amazing smoked salmon Benedict, apple cinnamon muffin and raspberry mocha latte! Plenty of space around tables, nice decor.
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
We had a great brunch at Le Cafe Josephine. I really liked the vanilla cream sauce with the French toast (pain perdu), and the bread with the ham and turkey baguette was very fresh. It's a cute, casual cafe with BYOB! Side note: as I walked in to Le Cafe Josephine, I felt like I was having deja vu, and I realized that it was the old Neo Baguette, just rebranded with a new name!
google avatar

Wendy C.

Yelp
I had the breakfast sandwich with lox and my husband had the chicken sandwich. Both were delicious, especially the bread. The Parmesan truffle fries were yummy. I got the tiramisu latte. I didn't want something super sweet, so an employee recommended half sugar which was perfect and delicious. Parking was easy. My only complaint is that it was so hot in the restaurant and even the Pelligrino from the case was warm. I'm not sure if this is the norm or if they had a power issue, but I was uncomfortable and sweating.
google avatar

A K.

Yelp
Sandwiches were alright, but small. Prices seemed a bit steep. They were also out of a lot of items.
google avatar

Bich V.

Yelp
Le Café Josephine is just so cute. Loved the décor inside, especially the light blue tile that lined the wall of the kitchen. Ordered the Moroccan Merguez Baguette and Moroccan Burger Baguette to split, along with the French fries, best thing to complement some sandwiches. I got the iced white mocha too! This was all done at the ordering station, where the staff member was very welcoming and kind. Overall, didn't really love the food but my sister said the breakfast dish: Pain Perdu was good enough to come back for. I was pretty surprised to see the huge parking lot which is pretty rare these days. Everything is halal in case anyone was curious.
google avatar

Dave W.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. We had salmon benedict and a breakfast croissant. Delicious. Cozy light atmosphere and friendly staff.
google avatar

Fabiola C.

Yelp
Great little place. Wonderful service! I ordered the fig jam and brie baguette. It was a bit sweet but delicious and unique. They have their own parking, which is a big plus!
google avatar

Morgan L.

Yelp
Went here for the first time today and it definitely won't be the last time. While it looks a little plain from the outside, the inside is super cute and clean. I had the Fig and Brie baguette and it was amazing! Hands down the best baguette bread I have had in Houston. The chai latte I got was delicious as well! While I got it to-go, I noticed a sign saying it was BYOB. My boyfriend had the fries and the Moroccan meatball baguette, which were very good as well. Check this place out
google avatar

Natalie L.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Counter service with condiments and cutlery in the corner. The extent of service from employees behind the counter was food delivery. However tip suggestion with card payment was between 15-30%. I don't really agree with suggesting that rate for counter service.
google avatar

Jo T.

Yelp
If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would!!! Wow. This was our first time and we were NOT disappointed. I ordered the Pain Perdu (brioche french toast) and my husband ordered the Italian saffron fettuccini-for brunch. My goodness. My dish was a gastronomical delight. The syrup and caramel mascarpone was to die for. I savored every.single.bite. My husband enjoyed his dish very much as well. Our server was kind and gracious. The atmosphere was eclectic with a moroccan flair. I am soooo looking forward to coming back for their award-winning poulet classique. NOTE: Their food is 100% halal certified.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
My fiancé and I basically eat here every weekend. I absolutely love the fig and brie. It's perfect in every way. My fiancé loves their avacado toast. But we've eaten almost everything on the menu and there are zero duds. Highly recommended and one of my all time fav spots.1
google avatar

Claire L.

Yelp
idk why i was expecting full service aesthetic restaurant because it was completely the opposite. casual and simple. nothing is wrong with that but it was a bit too casual for my liking, almost as if you aren't at a restaurant if that makes sense. the food and the service were good but honestly nothing special. not sure if I'd return. quiet spot to catch up with friends over lunch.
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
This is the old Neo Baguette on 20th! It's counter service so you just order and they will bring your food and drinks out to you. I got the Moroccan meatball sandwich. The meatballs were ok but I really loved the baguette. It was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. There was a good amount of meatballs though and they were covered in cheese. I got a banana foster latte and it wasn't overly sweet but had a nice banana flavor to it. There was a steady flow of people coming in for lunch/brunch and the food came out fast. They have their own parking lot too which is nice.
google avatar

Elaine M.

Yelp
This place offers a number of fancy lattes and pastries, which are good. Their brunch menu offers a few egg dishes and a lot of baguettes with different fillings. The menu has not very many choices. It was pleasantly decorated with poor service. The food was good but not cheap. It was sparsely visited by customers.
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
I am obsessed with this adorable cafe! The food is delicious. From the Pain Perdu (French toast) to their sandwich selections on baguettes, I've been impressed with the quality. They also roast their own coffee and I think their flat white is the best I've ever had. Ambiance is really great for a coffee date with a good book or catching up with a friend. This is definitely becoming one of my regular neighborhood go-to spots!
google avatar

Jorge D.

Yelp
Very good food, welcoming service and cozy ambiance. First time here, but a place to repeat for sure.
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
Great little cafe. Excellent sandwiches and service. Great ambience - has a European feel mixed with Moroccan flavors. Good kids meals as well. I come hear often, a nice gem in the heights

Carla M.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting to have to order at the counter but it turned out to be ok. The atmosphere was such that an old friend and I could spend 3 hours catching up. The food was unusual (lamb sausage, beef bacon, and side salad with breakfast entrees), but interesting and tasty.

Mia C.

Yelp
This place is a gem . The atmosphere was so peaceful and quiet. The food was delicious , from the French toast to the baguette and croissants , it was all delicious . Staff was friendly and service was amazing . Restroom and restaurant are also very clean. This will be my new spot , everybody should try !
google avatar

Minerva A.

Yelp
Food was really good the pasta was flavorful and the chicken was juicy. The parmesan fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Especially loved seeing all women working. And the art of the walls were of different countries and aesthetics. Overall good experience.
