"An appealing restaurant proposing food that is simple yet exacting: gazpacho of tomato, white peach and sheep's-milk Tomme cheese; mullet caught locally, ratatouille of vegetables from the surrounding hills and black rice; fontainebleau made with sheep's-milk yoghurt, wild blackberries and greengages. Hand-picked local suppliers, the occasional nod to the Mediterranean, good 100% natural wines, with recommendations from the owner, an attractive "vintage bistro" interior: this place has everything going for it." - Michelin Inspector

Had a really great dining experience here! Loved the handwritten menu and waiter did an amazing job explaining everything. The wine selection matched the dishes. The food was delicious with some local ingredients. Definitely worth a visit!

Recommended by a local Nice friend! No tourists! Surprisingly fantastic cuisines One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Nice Awesome and warm atmosphere Clearly explanation of the menu Highly suggested!!

The experience was good, though I had hoped for great based on the reviews. The menu is creative and built around local ingredients, with several interesting options. Unfortunately, the starters fell short – the croquette was undercooked and the courgette farcie lacked flavor. The mains were better: the beef was excellent, though the panzanella with the tuna tasted a bit tired. Service could use improvement; it was hard to get the waiter’s attention, and some basics (like a spoon for the courgette) were missing. While the wines were lovely, the overall value didn’t match the price – 35–37 euros for rustic mains that missed the mark in execution and taste made the meal feel overpriced.

Amazing gem of a place with authentic food and warm vibes. Every dish stood on its own with fresh ingredients and amazing flavors. Do not miss this place!!

Showed up with an 8pm reservation for 2. Restaurant was cramped in an aesthetically pleasing kind of way. The menu was hand written on a chalkboard, that was placed in front of our table. We ordered pork chop with gnocchi. The did had potential but missed the mark. No key flavour to be had. A little bland. I added salt and the dish tasted much better. The service was satisfactory. Overall was a decent dinning experience.

What a little gem! This restaurant is understated from the outside, but the food is wonderful, and the wines recommended to us were delightful. A perfect French restaurant experience

Le Canon has amazing cooking and a really good vibe. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who enjoys serious french cooking and aren’t easily frightened of powerful dishes. The only thing I would like to have improved is the wine suggestions… I would have loved to have more guidance due to the specific nature of their wine offer. (A lot of fairly unknown natural wines).

If you want a surly French waiter, look no further than Le Canon. The man with the fine moustache was extremely dismissive of us, positively snarling when we asked for ice, which he refused on the grounds that only the rotten tourists ask for it. He felt comfortable ridiculing our food choices and then suggesting we added a zero to the end of the bill price. He made faces of horror at any morsels of food left on the plate and his dramatic double take movements were making us feel very uncomfortable. The other chap was ok but when we asked for the wine list we were told it was in his head. No prices were offered for the wine so we wisely asked. The food is pre-prepared as no pork chop or lamb mince in aubergine can be ready within 5 minutes. I’m sure they’re very proud of their local produce but as a regular foodie, it left us less than impressed. I suggest you try something round the corner instead. The three women who arrived just after us made the wise choice to do just that and walked out.

Yelp
This restaurant came highly rated and had some good classics. We got a barracuda over hummus and a fish risotto and the fish was really great and fresh on both. I would have liked a little more flavor in the risotto but overall a good experience and great service with the owner running the kitchen and the waitress comes over to each table to run through the menu individually. Another part I love is that there is no wine menu and you just let them know what type you want and they bring you a glass.

Yelp
Had a superb lunch today at La Canon on rue Meyerbeer in Nice. A small restaurant with only about a dozen tables but most were filled at lunch time and the woman wait person was very good and helpful even though she was waiting on every table by herself. I started with the Crème de courgettes soup which was light but very tasty, not heavy and thick at all. It was delicious. Then I had a escalope de veau, which was larger than I expected but cooked perfectly with a nice crispy breading. I had a nice light red wine, L'Anglore, a Rhone wine from Tavel by Eric Pfifferling. Very tasty and not too heavy for lunch. And then for dessert, I had their clafoutis aux cerises. Beautiful. A wonderful lunch in a nice quiet restaurant with delicious food and perfect service. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
If you can, you absolutely have to stop by Le Canon for dinner. This was an absolutely stunning dinner to the end of my Nice trip. It's quite tiny. They usually take reservations because this is one of those French restaurants where a meal is 4-5 hours long, which is basically how long the restaurant is opened for dinner service. We got extremely lucky that they had one empty table for us. We also came right as they opened. There is literally one waitress and one sommelier. The waitress literally carried over a chalkboard with a handwritten menu. Our french is quite terrible, pardon! Luckily, the waitress had a really good fluency of English so she gave us a quick translation. Lots of seafood dishes, because you know, South of France and all that. As the dishes change day by day, I will say that we got a fish dish and a pork dish? There were also several appetizers. The sommelier comes over and recommends some natural wine choices. We got a local Rose. Bottles are better value when you have a group. It was an extremely enjoyable dinner. The dishes don't come out fast. It does take a while but I suggest that you do as the French and converse with friends over a glass of wine. The food will come out when they are ready and trust me, it'll be delicious.

Yelp
Innovative and enjoyable bistro. The chalkboard menu varies depending on fresh foods available and the sole waiter reviews it carefully with their guests. We ordered pumpkin soup with snails and beer and mackerel tartare as appetizers, both of which were delicious. The Pavlova dessert, made with blood orange, was also worth a repeat. But most of all we loved the Peche de la Chapon, a type of rockfish, that was stuffed with carrots, broccoli, and baby turnips and served with a lemony saffron risotto. Excellent bistro cuisine. They also have an excellent and extensive wine cellar. The restaurant is small...seats about 35 people, and there is a single amazing server who manages it all in a timely fashion, and who remains friendly and attentive to boot. And a breath of fresh air after New York dining...no music! Just the sound of happy diners, conversing and eating.

Yelp
The Insidr Paris team highly recommended this hidden local gem, so I didn't mind having to wait 30 min for a lunch table. The host/server spoke very good English and even took the time to explain the French menu to me (I was able to understand most of it, but there were a few terms I didn't know). For entrée, I had focaccia bread topped with fresh tomatoes and sheep's milk ricotta. Main was sautéed local red tuna with Provincial veggies. Everything was super fresh and LOCAL. Absolutely delightful. My server even gave me restaurant recommendations for the remainder of my 2 days in Nice. Cost ~27€ (wine, entrée, main, espresso).
