Very disappointing experience.
Before coming, we called the restaurant specifically to ask if dogs were allowed, explaining in English that we were traveling with two dogs. We asked twice, and both times we were clearly told yes, and our reservation was confirmed.
When we arrived, however, the staff looked us up and down and then informed us that only small dogs are allowed, and that our 25 kg dogs were not accepted. This condition was never mentioned on the phone.
Because of this, we were forced to leave and try to find another restaurant at the last minute. Unfortunately, being a busy evening in Châlons-en-Champagne, everything else was already fully booked, which completely ruined our last evening in the city.
If you have rules about dog size, that is completely fair — but they must be clearly communicated, especially when guests take the time to call in advance and ask in good faith. This was unprofessional and extremely frustrating.
