Le Carmin

"On Place Carnot, not far from the Hôtel-Dieu, this restaurant with a modern façade occupies the ground floor of a picturesque old house. After stints with Robuchon and Ducasse, chef Christophe Quéant crafts modern, seasonal cuisine based on traditional textbook foundations. His top-quality ingredients are transformed into spot-on, straightforward dishes, blessedly free of fancy frills. The contemporary-style dining room, which sports a beige colour scheme and exposed stonework, is the perfect foil for delicious dishes such as caramelised quail breasts and legs, white asparagus and baby carrots and the hot Grand Marnier soufflé – to die for!" - Michelin Inspector

We chose to save the “best for last” evening on our trip and were very excited for our dining experience at Le Carmin. The food exceeded our expectations and tasted phenomenal, with each dish beautifully crafted and bursting with flavor. The wine selection was excellent and perfectly complemented our meal. However, once bookings began to arrive, the quality of the service for a Michelin star restaurant deteriorated. Despite this, the overall ambience was impeccable, creating a memorable dining experience. A wonderful restaurant with room for improvement in service during peak times.

I’d preface this review by saying I myself am a restaurant manager for a Michelin guide listed restaurant. I’ve had poor experiences in restaurants but it’s with great sadness I would say that this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had in a Michelin star restaurant. The service started well but once the 8pm bookings arrived (clearly too many tables arriving at once) the 2 staff members were overwhelmed and run off their feet. Every attention to detail was lost. I never thought in a restaurant of this quality we would return the main course but 3 of us had turbot- it was so over cooked it was beyond dry and inedible. It was much better prepared once recooked and the staff handled it well. The pistachio soufflé was poorly prepared and way too eggy and sugary. The presentation of dishes was beautiful, the restaurant itself well appointed. I’m unsure if the team were having a bad night - maybe had some sick calls? But honestly for the price and the quality delivered and the overall experience it was terrible.

Simply divine. The service was impeccable. The food was fabulous and plentiful - we were so full after our meal! The wine list is extensive with a wide variety of price points.

It is very comfortable and friendly place. At about 3pm, I came here to have a cup pf tea. The only thing which was a shame was that it is a teabag not leaf, but it is quite normal to have tea in a teahouse in France. Other than this, everything is perfect. The staff speak English and she made detailed explanation for each cake for me and she as well as others were very friendly. The atmosphere of this teahouse is woody and comfortable. StHonore, tha cake I ate, tasted good. Moreover the price is affordable.

Super nice food. We took one of the set menus to try different meals. Modern ambiance, good service.

I dropped in unannounced and had lunch on my own. I chose the €50 lunch menu. I enjoyed the “Croque St jacques” and the monkfish. The lady serving me recommended a half bottle of wine at the end of the wine list. I chose the Chablis Montee de Tonnerre from Domaine Servin. I really enjoyed my lunch. I can recommend this place. My dessert was divine! The Paris-Bresse was so good!!!!

If you have two working kidneys, sell one before buying a menu here. 9/10 would do it again if I had more kidneys. Not the best Service tho, new guy spilled half my beer and didn't give me a new one.

Yelp
Great restaurant. Nice atmosphere, small and pleasant. We both had the petite dinner which included smoked salmon, fois gras pate, beef, cheese platter and desert for 55 euros. What a great deal. All the food was good to great Especially loved the cheese and the desert. And finished off with complementary sweets. Can't beat it! It's a leisurely meal, so don't be in a hurry!

Yelp
Had a phenomenal dinner here last weekend. The service was impressive (from the extremely friendly and helpful woman at the front to the studious and impressive young man who served us to the chef who was frequently making rounds to ensure all the guests were happy). Good service is hard to come by in France and this restaurant delivered some of the best we have seen. The food was exceptional! We did the prix fixe dinner menu (great value- especially for a restaurant with a Michelin star). Each court course was amazing (you must try the pigeon- DELICIOUS)! We will definitely return!

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant. Elegant, but not stuffy. Wide ranging menu, with several multi-course prepared menus as well as ala carte offerings. We both had the King Crab salad to start (excellent), followed by veal chop and entrecôte d'boeuf, both great. We enjoyed Gateau St. Honore for Two for dessert. Great location and beautiful decor. Large wine list. Great care provided by Yoan. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Burgundy. Excellent food. Great service. Well-deserved Michelin Star. It's obvious that the chef and staff are passionate about what they do. The pigeon dish and praline chocolate dessert were both stand outs! I would recommend doing the prix fixe menu- great value!

Yelp
We booked Le Carmin for my wife's birthday, knowing that it was pretty expensive. The food is simply fantastic and worth the price. After the free appetizer, a asparagus mousse, my wife ordered the salmon starter, a very thin sheet of raw salmon with a lemon creme. I ordered the lobster starter, a small grilled lobster tail with a savory sauce. We both had the beef with potato gnocchi, which was amazing when matched with the recommended 2005 pinot. For dessert, order the souffle. It was the best we've had in France, so light that it seemed to float out of the ramekin. The staff was knowledgable on the wine and menu. They spoke at least "restaurant English" and had a less formal manner than most French restaurants (it was appreciated).

Yelp
Wonderful evening. Got a reservation at the last minute and was not disappointed. The staff was short but that did not sway us. The staff of two in the restaurant handled it great. We ordered of the regular menu. Steak and sole were wonderful. Creme Brûlée was awesome, a different presentation. The wine list was amazing. Thank you! The bonus? Watching the chef in the kitchen from our table!

Yelp
terrible. the fish tasted like cardboard. when we returned 2 uneaten mains there was no service recovery and the owner was patronizing and sniggered at a chinese attempting to speak french! she alluded to other guests loving the dish and offered to apology. although there were only 2 occupied tables at lunch including ours. no one should have to pay to be treated with such condescension.
