Le Carré d'Alethius

"Between Drôme and Ardèche, this "Roman house" dedicated to senator Alethius has a distinct air of Provence. The villa is arranged around a square courtyard, a gorgeous verdant patio that you can sit out on in fine weather. Having worked for Jean-Michel Lorain at La Côte Saint-Jacques, Olivier Samin moved on to work for iconic chef Anne-Sophie Pic at the three-starred Maison Pic in Valence – where he was sous-chef for a long time. He delivers fresh and refined cuisine, in tune with the markets (regional fruits and vegetables, snails from the Eyrieux, local cheeses) and the seasons (one set menu is devoted to truffles in winter, another to lobster in summer), and with a tremendous sense of balance: precise cooking, light and airy veloutés and creams. Truly delicious." - Michelin Inspector

I have reviewed this hotel before, but it is definitely worth another word or two.|Situated slightly off the beaten track, the hotel and its restaurant are relatively small but the service and quality were excellent. The rooms are quite modest, ( as reflected in the prices), the restaurant offers some of the best food I have ever eaten. Beautifully prepared and served by a knowledgable and enthusiastic team, it concentrates on local products. An absolute delight.|We have visited twice and already looking forward to our next visit.

John H.10 / 10Séjour du 06/2024|The many awards for this establishment speak volumes about the quality. It would be nice to see (perhaps) a menu seniors? We are both in our 70's and beyond the entrée/plat/desert with a cheese option we would be simply defeated by the amount of delicious foods offered. Maybe an option of 'Seniors Menu Choose from the following' with a selection of 4 entrees, 4 main meals and 4 desserts. I do not know if this is feasible but I am sure would please many 'elder' clients.

An overnight stay, and we were delighted with the hotel. Nice room with terrace, an excellent meal in the evening, and, at every stage, helpful and friendly staff. The food choice was very limited, but that gave the kitchen team the time to produce a meal which was novel, interesting and delicious. The sommelier improved this further with an excellent choice of drinks to accompany the menu.|We will be very happy to stay again, and look forward to dinner in the garden.

Great room, dog friendly, terrace with synthetic grass surface which was ideal for our elderly dog. Our room faced into the courtyard so we could leave the doors open when we had our evening meal. Great shower and nice products. But the meal! Wow! This place has a Michelin star and the taster menu was just sensational. The waiters were so attentive and helpful and explained every dish to us. Quite expensive but memorable and in our view, worth every cent. I'm sure we will go back and if I don't have a long drive the next day, I may go for the accompanying wine menu. This location is a small village on the other side of the Rhone from the Autoroute. It's a nice village to walk through and there is a boulangerie just around the corner where we bought our sandwich for lunch later in the day

A quite beautiful little hotel and I would have awarded five stars, but the female chef chose to serve a bottle of SanP without glass at the breakfast in such an arrogant manner we will certainly not return. Perhaps because we did not book a table at the starred restaurant?

The hotel is compact and rather buried in a side street, however once found it was bright and airy with a lovely centre courtyard, which if it had been sunny would have been great to enjoy. Restaurant superb and all staf friendly and helpful. Bedrooms are small and the plastic mattress cover was not a good idea in that quality. Otherwise comfortable.

We enjoyed both the great dinner, nice room as well as very convenient location between Amsterdam and Spain where we were heading. Def recommend. Great private parking as well, so if you hav ethe car full of luggage you can keep that in without a worry.

A thoroughly enjoyable and peaceful|Stay, together with our dog. Would have liked to stay a little longer but we were on-route to the Pyrenees. |The hotel is clearly geared around the kitchen and we had a lovely meal and a treatable wine list. The waiter was a little stiff, probably people were not his forte. |Still a lovely evening. || |
