On our trip from Costa Brava back home we needed an overnight stop near Valence. The small inn "Le Carré d'Alethius" located in a village 10 miles south of the town was perfect. ||||Most friendly people, pretty bedrooms with a jacuzzi bath, just right for an overnight stay.||||The restaurant of renowned chef Olivier Samin and his lovely wife Stéphanie is worth a trip: ||Modern French food in many servings of small portions, wonderfully cooked and seasonned with rare combinations of herbs and spices. Each dish is nicely arranged and decorated with edible flowers, when available. ||||The two of us had starters, a sort of poached egg, a little foie gras, a little fish with red peppers and some delicate couscous, roast of boar with a French vegetable (blettes), Auvergne goat cheese, and a chocolate dessert only a virtuoso patissier could craft. The wine list is long and excellent. The inn is decorated in a pleasing modern French style with "paintings" made of flat pressed beverage cans. ||||One cannot do better, only different... and rather good value for such an extraordinary experience. Of course, nobody would eat this way every day of the week; but once in a while such a fare can be a wonderful experience.||||Extra bonus: excellent breakfast with the best ever strawberry jam in the world!||||We'll be back.
