My wife and I had the privilege of dining at Le Cedre recently while on a pilgrimage from Lourdes to Rome. After much walking (and a lot of traffic), we were resigned to dine somewhere near our hotel (Novotel Centre Vieux), and this restaurant was the perfect discovery.
The Le Cedre motif embodies simple elegance. The space is compact but not cramped, and the artwork on the walls is courtesy of the host himself, Jean Haidar. Jean is a gracious Lebanese man who has earned every bit of the accolades granted for this establishment. He spent time with us and told us his story and that of Le Cedre, as if we were personal guests in his home.
We ordered the Classic Menu, which consisted of both cold and hot samplers of items such as Baba Ganouch, Tabbouleh, Falafel, Sambousik, Chicken and Beef skewers, and Lebanese pastries. This was all accompanied by excellent Lebanese red wine (Ksara, Convent Reserve) which we had not previously known. This all made for a beautiful and comforting marriage on a chilly December evening. Returning to the hotel, we felt compelled to share the good news with other curious diners. Please look no further than Le Cedre, you will be forever grateful!
