WOW!
I am so thankful that one of my colleagues nixed our planned dinner...and chose this for a meal for 15 of us. This, two star Michelin spot, was AMAZING.
We did the four course menu, but folks, don't be fooled...The four course menu comes with a few starters before the first 'course', plenty of bread, and of course, cute little treats at the end!
We started with 2 small starters of fried mussels in a cream sauce, croquettes and a small cracker with some sort of spread (yes, that sounds like a technical description...). These were all fabulous.
We moved on to the foi gras..which was divine. The portion was massive and it was lovely - rich and delicious.
The second course was cod - also delicious. Perfectly cooked and flaky.
NOTE: At this point int he meal, I figured I should slow down as I was inhaling everything! Alas, I kept on going...
The third course (entree) was pheasant with a pumpkin flavor. WOW. I don't even know how to describe it..not gamey, tender, flavorful...if it would have been acceptable to lick the plate, I would have.
The dessert was a fig dessert with blackberry sauce...again, good enough to eat the entire thing....delicious, sweet without being too sweet and beautifully presented.
After dessert, there were trays of sweets and jellies. All good...I may have taken a few caramels to enjoy the next day (I'm pretty sure this wasn't approved by my colleagues...as I took them out in our meeting the next day, I saw looks of jealousy...).
All in all, a fabulous meal. We had great food, great wine and super service. One slightly weird comment was when I asked the server where the bathroom was and he told me (jokingly) that they didn't have one...just unexpected for this caliber of restaurant, but he did get a laugh out of me and the table.
If you can visit Le Chalet de la Foret - do it! You will be very happy (and full)!~
