So good! I devoured my almond pastry in 5 min. My daughter ate all of hers as well. So flaky and not too sweet. This is much better than the other dessert places we tried, including Kaminsky dessert bar and another coffee/dessert bar. The other stuff is just too sweet and lacking real ingredients. The owner here was pleasant. I hope to go earlier tomorrow to have more to pick from.

Google
I can only give 5 stars but they deserve 10. This French Bakery is just fantastic and, they are dog friendly. The owner loved my little pooch and he gave her several treats while we were in his shop. I had an almond croissant and it was really amazing. You should definitely give them a try.

Whenever we visit Charleston, this place is a must-visit! The owners are always incredibly friendly and welcoming. The food is simply delicious!

I went to this shop last year on my trip to my friends wedding. Out of curiosity as I saw lots one 1 star reviews about how rude the owner is. But at the same time all good reviews stated how good the foods is. I actually went to all the bakeries in the city, tried all the croissants because I loved croissants. And the croissants here are the best. To me, the owners are very nice, but they demand respect and they are very straightforward which I prefer. As we should always respect each other. Anyway, thank you again for your hard work and I wish you the best!

Google
Exceptional quality and the most pleasant atmosphere! Brunch perfection: Quiche, croque monsieur and the perfect glass of rosé ! Fresh ingredients and generous portions. Our hosts were charming, fun and accommodating! If you want an authentic French experience with a causal vibe- Le Chambertin delivers!

Google
Such an amazing yet small place. The inside is quaint and well decorated. The seating outside made us feel like we were a thousand miles away and not in downtown Charleston. The owner/baker is incredibly friendly and took the time to talk with each of us while making sure that the food was fresh and we were comfortable. We tried nearly one of everything but our favorite was the croque monsieur. It was so well crafted and tasted amazing heated up. I would come back here again and again to keep trying all of the different options.

Google
I was greeted with the incredible aroma of freshly baked breads and gracious hospitality. I chose a "Grab and Go" sandwich as I work downtown and this kind of quality is hard to find. I will eagerly go back tomorrow and try the ham and cheese baguette! Hard to find- but easy to remember!

Google
Best beignets in Charleston, hands down! The owners are very friendly and very French. They don’t have French press coffee, but the food was delicious: spinach quiche, ham and cheese croque, and the best beignet I’ve ever tasted!

Yelp
Another visit to Charleston, I had to come back to Le Chambertin for lunch. I had the ham and cheese croissant but was also eyeing the quiche. I wanted either coffee or tea but they only had black coffee, much to my dismay. The guy in the counter was nice when I asked what the food options were. I would love to come back for a glass of champagne and sit in the outdoor area. The weather today was nice enough to sit outside.

Yelp
There is no better croissant in the region! Our favorite is chocolate but we got some different varieties this trip! Super small shop with a good selection and cute sitting area out front. While they didn't have quite what we came for, they kindly helped me pick out some other options.

Yelp
This authentic quaint French bakery with peaceful outdoor seating has freshly baked croissants, pastries, and French imported jams, mustard, etc. The baker kindly allowed us to take a short video of the interior, as long as he was not in it. The cinnamon pastry was buttery and delicious but a bit heavy. They did not have beignets. The almond croissant was flaky and better than any that I've had in Charleston, but none that I've had could compare with French Memories Bakery from our locality. Only two customers are allowed in the bakery at a time.

Yelp
Nothing I love more than a rude business owner. It kind of closes the stomach personally. I went to take a photo and video of the food for my trip. She rudely yelled at me to stop and delete the footage. So I don't think I'd want my friends to experience such a rude woman. That being said I still kept my order and did enjoy the things I tried. You do with information as you will. And enjoy my forbidden croissant footage.

Yelp
We came in on a weekend morning to try a few pastries. They looked great but one bite proved they were not baked that morning. Maybe not even the morning before. This shocked us considering the owners are French. Maybe they don't think Americans care. We did. I don't mind paying top dollar for fresh pastries but I do for stale pastries. Just bake off less each day and keep your product fresh. If you can be sure they baked that morning I'd say try them but if not, keep walking.

Yelp
Only place I can get authentic imports I can only find in France! Owners were lovely, they welcomed our dog for a morning coffee, cute spot and delicious food.

Jenna M.

Yelp
This is an adorable little French bakery. We walked right past but then the kind people at goat.sheep.cow directed us here in our search for a croissant. Thank goodness they did! Our group had a croissant, a cheese danish, and an almond croissant. Each was better than the last. The pastry was so flaky and fresh, the flavors so lush, and the whole place was just adorable. The proprietor was very kind as well. Check out this tucked-away spot with the red umbrellas!

Yelp
So I want to start out by saying if your looking for a good crossiant. This is definitely the place. But if you like good service don't visit. I don't know if she woke up on the wrong side of the bed but she was kinda mean. Yelled when we tried to take a picture of our own food and was very irritated like she was mad we were buying from her.

Simone M.

Yelp
Delicious cappuccino and pain raisin! The most beautiful setting. You can request a mug if you're staying which is a fine touch. Highly recommend.

Alex D.

Yelp
Wonderful experience and amazing food! The beignets were the best we've ever had and were able to enjoy on a beautiful little courtyard in the French Quarter. Merci Beaucoup!!

Alisa M.

Yelp
Outstanding croissants. The best we've had in Charleston. This will become a regular stop for weekend breakfasts. Quaint and off the beaten path, not overrun with tourists.

Yelp
Very rude owner. Allowed people with dogs in but not kids. We sent one person in to take a picture of the choices and she said no pictures. Too many rules not enough service.

Yelp
I just had the double chocolate chip cookies, which were Devine. It's a small, charming bakery with a cute french bulldog to greet you in the front patio. This is a special place close to our hotel.
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
This was a little place run by French woman and a French bulldog and the baked goods were the best you can get. I've gone to the other larger bakeries in the area and this one takes the cake hands down. It's small batch but it's so so worth it. Just go and buy anything, you'll be happy you did.

Yelp
Do not come here if you are a mother/father/nanny and have a kid or stroller. I tried to walk in and was immediately rushed out the door by the owner telling me they don't allow strollers for "security purposes." I understood this and I was trying to turn around to park the stroller and get the baby out, and she continued to make me feel extremely uncomfortable walking me out of her courtyard and telling me to have a good day. Super negative experience!

Yelp
Food looked delicious, but I can't say how it tastes. I left after the owner stopped me from taking a photo of the pastries. If you don't understand that digital images of your products are an important part of promoting your business, I'm not sure you'll be in business long.

Yelp
My husband, our young daughter, & myself walked in mid morning on a Saturday. We were greeted warmly & took a few seconds to look over the pastries available for the day. We settled on two ham & Swiss croissants, a beignet, & a chocolate almond pastry. The owner suggested the croissants be warmed up & offered to do so we said yes. OMG. THEY WERE AMAZING. The ratio of buttery croissant to ham & Swiss was perfect & the mustard brought the flavors all together. On to the pastries, the beignet was superb, the custard style filling was honestly perhaps the best either of us have ever had. The chocolate almond pastry was decadent but not too rich. You could taste the quality of chocolate in each bite. Overall, a great experience. Both service & quality was great. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Not much seating, no high chairs Omg beignets to DIE for! Messy, but who is watching anyways... Loved the baguette sandwich with ham, cheese and mustard. No option for no mustard though so kids might not like. Just notes I loved it for what it was so I gave it 5/5

Yelp
Super friendly and decent croissants. Was excited to find out they started close to where I live

Pat B.

Yelp
Is this place still open? We have been calling the number and keep getting, "Welcome to Verizon. Your call cannot be completed as dialed..."

Chad Lila L.

Yelp
Cute neighborhood bakery! Highly recommend their butter croissants and lemon loaf. The lemon loaf is soft, moist, and springy.

Yelp
Every time we visit Charleston we need to visit Le Chambertin or their sister location on John street for their awesome croissants and fine hospitality.

Eric S.

Yelp
The owner was completely obnoxious. Within 30 seconds of entering she had a attitude that made us walk out. We were looking forward to it. But we felt unwelcome!

Yelp
Charming, authentic, fantastic French coffee and food. The chocolate croissant and croque-monsieur transported me back to France.

Yelp
Very Good French bakery. Tasty French-style pastries and sandwiches. Very friendly owner. The quiche was nice but it had too much milk. The outside seating is wonderful. But no seating inside and selection is a bit limited.

Yelp
Le Chambertin on Church Street in Charleston is a great option as an authentic French bakery in the middle of everything. Everything here that I have tried has been fresh and delicious and a good place to go any time of the day for a bite or more. I have had a really good experience every time I have been here and have been happy with all of my purchases.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this authentic French café/bakery and were SO thrilled we did. I am normally not a sandwich lover, but when you pair a made-from-scratch French baguette with the delightful flavors on these sandwiches, you can't NOT eat every bite. I had the roast beef sandwich which had arugula, cheese, and a horseradish sauce (maybe a mustard?). We also had an almond croissant with café au lait. It was all perfect and the owner was absolutely delightful. The seating area is quaint and well shaded. Don't miss out on this place!

Yelp
Authentic French goodies! We have tried Almond , Pistachio Chocolate Croissant. They are heavier, not overly sweet! The Blueberry Turnover Is unique....we love it the most! This is a must visit place while in town....

Yelp
A truly delicious gem in the heart of Charleston. The croissants were absolutely delicious and so fresh.

Veronica S.

Yelp
We've been to most of the bakeries downtown and this one is by FAR the best (we go at least once a week). When we want to treat ourselves we come here! The food is amazing. We try to order something new every time and it's always 10/10 great. They always have misc croissants and have 4-8 daily items that change. The fruits in their desserts are always so fresh! The two owners are so nice and funny. They're so welcoming and the atmosphere is cute, quaint and casual. It's right on church street too so it's perfect for grabbing a snack and walking around! Also: dog friendly!! There's outdoor dining and a doggy water bowl available. They also have packaged jams/jellies and their cookies are delish! Try to get there early because they sell out!

Yelp
Friends and I visited this spot during a week in Charleston for classic French café, croissants, et pain au chocolat. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! This is a great place to buy gifts and there is nice outdoor seating.

Yelp
THE BEST, I repeat, the BEST raspberry pitaschio pastry thing. And Lino the French bulldog was a new friend who sat outside with us.

Aton A.

Yelp
Had a pain au chocolate and chocolate almond croissant. Wow! BEST EVER and we sample these everywhere we go.

Karen D.

Yelp
Awesome french pastry and quiche! Owners were lovely and accommodating. Definitely recommend.

Susan R.

Yelp
This is one of the best French establishments in Charleston. The food is amazing and the service is fantastic! The owner goes out of her way to make you feel welcome.

Adam S.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting to find such a wonderful taste of France tucked away on Church street. The owners are very kind and and you can tell they've worked hard to make it feel like an authentic French cafe. The courtyard is small and intimate. It's great for a snack and coffee followed by a walk.

Julien S.

Yelp
Looking for a French bakery ... that s your place! Awesome croissants and you will feel like home! Bon appétit!

Dawne B.

Yelp
Very friendly service, second to none. It's as authentic as you can get. So if you're looking for good French sandwiches and pastries, then this is the place to go! You definitely will want to add Le Chambertin to your list!

Anne L.

Yelp
My husband and I visited here this week on our trip to Charleston. We LOVE France, and have been sad to not be able to go since 2018 due to everything happening in the world currently. So we try to find authentic pieces of France during our travels stateside, and this amazing little bakery did not disappoint! French radio was playing, the pastries and bread were INCREDIBLE, the owners were kind (and French!), and the imported groceries from France were wonderful. We felt like we were in Paris for the morning! Definitely try this place if you're in Charleston. And get the pain au chocolat.

Walker O.

Yelp
My family and I just left here a few minutes ago this place doesn't even deserve one star. I have never received such rude and terrible service. This is the first negative review I have written on here for a Charleston establishment and have lived here for over 30 years. Our family was on a walk after church enjoying a gorgeous morning. We spontaneously stopped in after a woman recommended their pastries and were excited to support a small cafe. We hadn't even stepped foot into the door when our son brushed against the jingle bell door hanger and the owner rushed over to our toddler saying sternly, "It's bad luck!" My wife and I both felt unwelcome so she took our child outside and the female owner followed her out to remove an open lock on another gate aggressively. It was as if we were not even allowed to look at anything, inside or outside, this establishment. We hadn't even had a chance to look at a menu to order. When my wife returned to try to order, our child was looking at some candies which were stacked like dominos and touched one, causing another to fall. The woman literally yelled at my wife saying, "Just leave it!" It was in a TIN can at eye level of children and the funny thing is we actually wanted to spend money here and my wife was going to purchase one for our children to try. The owner aggressively took it from her hand and yelled again for her to just LEAVE IT. We were absolutely shocked and our children were being very well behaved. The place is super tiny and you can barely fit a couple people inside which is fine, but you are in a food service industry and your only job is to provide food to make money. We ended up only purchasing a coffee because we were literally berated by the owners from the moment we arrived. As we were leaving our oldest daughter saw the woman talking through the windows with her hands raised at our two year old son as we were exiting the outside courtyard. The entire experience was honestly surreal and the absolute poorest customer service I have ever received in my life. I can't even emphasize how terrible the customer service was and I will never spend another penny at this place. As a person who enjoys supporting local businesses and is the first to spread the word on good experiences, I have absolutely nothing good to say about this place. And on a secondary note, I think a local gas station coffee would have more flavor than the one I purchased from this place.

Malgosia S.

Yelp
Super cute place with sweet owners and delicious food. A little bit of France - true France - in Charleston where you can eat well, have wonderful time and feel welcomed like home.

Joann S.

Yelp
This place is horrible. Owner was very rude and disrespectful. I would recommend spending your money elsewhere.

Dylan W.

Yelp
Fantastic French bakery, delightful croissants, and excellent coffee. Paired with the kindness of the owner this is such a little gem in the heart of Charleston.
