Le Comptoir is hard to beat! And really now, why would you want to?
It all started when I first tried mussels a month ago. I shockingly fell in love. I say shockingly as seafood and I don't have much of a relationship, but that is slowly changing.
Because the original place we went to is rather pricey, I started to look around for a place I could go to that wouldn't break the bank. When my boyfriend decided to surprise me with a dinner date, I immediately said to look for a restaurant with mussels. Originally we were planning on going to Le Bouchon du Grove, but we called and found out they were closed for renovations.
As a result, my dear Edwin P. began to search for a place worthy of date night and so Le Comptoir came into the picture. He called, made a reservation, and off we went.
The ambiance of this restaurant reminds me so much of Paris. Specifically a restaurant I went near Montmartre. Everything is pristine and perfect for conversation. It's so quiet and intimate, feeling extremely laidback and dare I say European? Definitely the place to sit back and enjoy, relax, and definitely not rush.
The food menu is limited but delicious. Go and try the mussels; it's their specialty. There are eight different kinds and you can't go wrong with any of them. I had the white wine ones, while my boyfriend had them Provençal. Both were spectacular, but I admit a preference to the classic white wine ones. Also, note that the mussels are two pounds' worth and come with a glass of wine or beer, plus French fries, for the low price of $18.50. This is a steal!
And lest I forget, there is staff that speaks actual French. You know you're getting the legit deal. Spoke to the woman who attended us and she was a native French speaker (I could tell from the accent when she said Chardonnay) and that just made my night. As someone who lived in France, I always love when I get the opportunity to practice speaking the language. Will return soon.
