Le Confessionnal

"Opposite Leffe Abbey, this nostalgic neighbourhood bolthole provides a showcase for the owner’s passion for flea markets. Red and white checked tablecloths, decorative soup tureens and silverware set the friendly scene. The traditional fare oozes with the charm of yesteryear and the regularly changing menu offers an array of hearty, traditional dishes, such as duck leg à la bourguignonne or roast shoulder of lamb with garlic confit. Hunger obliterating food free of fussy frills and a treasure trove of French wines at prices that make sense." - Michelin Inspector

Truly superb. The food, setting and service were all a treat. We were served drinks outside in the beautiful garden and a menu was brought to the table giving us time to translate everything! Food was first rate, wine was quality and the price was very reasonable, certainly compared to London prices. Would highly recommend to anybody staying near Dinant.

One of the best meals we have ever experienced. The menu is amazing. The dishes well prepared with fresh ingredients . It is so nice to enjoy a meal without a waiter pushing you between courses. The lamb was cooked to perfection with the meat soft as butter with a delicious crisp skin. The marrow, the mushrooms, green beans and a whipped and flash fried potatoes were extraordinary. The wine selection was solid as well as we code an Alsace Pinot Noir to accompany our meal. The restaurant is small seat Ii ng perhaps 24 people inside. The staff was kind and patient with our broken french. I find it amazing that some reviewers criticized the place for being all in french without any thought to how many places in the US would serve them solely in English. Besides I found the server very friendly and helpful. The place is amazing.

Very unique experience.. The food was amazing, set up was very authentic.. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming, but they don't speak English. Overall totally recommend. Make sure to make a reservation prior to your planned date by 3-5 days.. In our case dinner was fully booked for 2 weeks in advance..so we went for lunch reservations within 3 days.

We ended up having lunch here almost by chance. Great atmosphere and food! There’s a great attention to details, from the food to the place itself. The service is amazing. It feels like a throwback to the past. Absolutely recommended 👍🏼

I loved the ambiance of this small place, with a cow watching the world from the attic window. The service is very nice and helpful, when it started to rain everyone sitting in the outside could sit in a lovely vestibule - they brought us chairs. The vestibule is decorated in a way reminding of an old good country, with jars containing pickles, boxes full of apples, garlic hanging from the ceiling… Le Confessional has a real confessional in the yard and in general it is located next to the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Leffe, which was portrayed on the beer’s logo. The restaurant is in the Michelin guide.

One of the most delicious meals we've ever had. The waitress was so lovely and the perfect host. I would highly recommend getting there as soon as they open because they get busy. Sit outside, have an aperitif and just ask and you may be lucky to get squeezed in like we did! So, so lucky. My husband can speak a little French so we got by and there was an English speaking couple next to us. If you try to speak French it would be appreciated. A lot of native English speaking customers have this complex about restaurants not accommodating them or consider it's rude, it's not. Please don't expect that every place will speak English. You need to respect this whilst traveling and learn the language, even if it's just basic. You will be rewarded with a truly amazing dining experience! We had two courses. Highly recommend the confit lamb shoulder. Simply, out of this world. Go here!

No english; every person has to order a main. Traditional French food - quite rustic, mains were great, desserts were just alright.
