They are so busy but so nice and friendly. With the music and singing it is like a party but like a family. I really appreciate their work!

Today I had an appointment to receive a basket - fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts, milk, eggs - everything the heart desires (as they say in Ukraine). And also, today there was live music - jazz style (you guys are wonderful. Thank you). Is the biggest food depot and support of the community that I have seen in Montreal. And the food is very good. We love going there every week as a family to have supper

Visited for the first time today for the cooking workshop and it was amazing! We really enjoyed it. Everyone is super nice and welcoming. Thank you for organizing this event

I was a bit hesitant to register for the foodbank service and I see a lot of people I know who are struggling with food security in that space as well so I'm going to write this review of what you can expect. Prefacing it with this was a very positive experience for me! Your first step is to register in person (you can find the times on their website). The registration volunteers were friendly and helpful, there was a little wait for me personally but I don't think it was more than half an hour. The day you register you will not be able to access the foodbank but they will register you for the next available open time that works with their opening hours and your schedule - this was about two weeks after registration for me. Today was my first day going to access the foodbank service and again all the volunteers were very kind and helpful. There was about a 10 minute wait time after my appointment time to get in. It is set up like a grocery store with a large selection of fresh produce, some refrigerated products including tofu, milks, eggs, and even some premade meals (which were vegan!), as well as many dry goods. As someone who is vegan and has many food allergies I had no difficulty finding a selection of foods that work for me. You are allotted $47 foodbank dollars (which go a lot further than real dollars) and can choose what makes sense for you, with $10 mandatorily going towards produce. You have a volunteer - shoutout to Anne who helped me - who tallies your choices as you go and makes sure you know how much you have left to spend. It's suggested you bring your own bag as bags aren't provided. I left with enough food to feed me for two weeks with a good variety. It's honestly been a few years since I planned to have lunch because I just realistically can't afford it but I was provided enough food to make me feel comfortable planning lunches this week. Thank you Depot Community Food Center for this amazing service for the community! If you're struggling to eat enough due to financial barriers and live in NDG I highly recommend!!

Had an absolutely lovely experience getting my first basket, fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, eggs, bread, pasta and canned goods. It's so nice to know that this is available to the community. Everyone who was working or volunteering was super nice and welcoming. The restaurant is super cozy and warm. If you're feeling anxious at all about going, I was too but they made me feel so welcomed.

Is very good is a place you will like to visit they welcome you very happy with respect then show you what you have to do

I had the honour of visiting The Depot Community Food Centre - formerly the NDG Food Depot yesterday and getting a better idea of all the incredible programs being developed and run through this powerful community hub, and then shared whole heartedly by this passionate organization with other food security organizations around Montreal and around the country. Currently located in a former restaurant, the space which they open to the public for community dinners and emergency food box pickup is incredibly welcoming. There are picnic tables outside, small tables and chairs, a welcoming front desk, and a kitchen buzzing with volunteers. Being here truly makes you want to spend more time here. Twice a week this incredible space offers a free community meal to anyone who shows up - literally anyone. They do not ask people to present proof of income or anything like that. The goal here is truly to build community and to break isolation and to forge links between all members of our local Montreal community. The meal that is served showcases recipes that can be made using the exact ingredients made available in the emergency food baskets, so folks come for a meal, pick up their baskets if they need one, and then can get help from a variety of other practitioners including social workers, legal aide, folks who can help with meal planning - these days they are even helping people register and get ready to vote! The best. The chef here helped develop the menu at Damas so volunteers are learning from a very gifted pro, and the community at every level is being treated with love and respect, and respect for good food. There is so much more going on here, including hundreds of kids getting afterschool snacks, hundreds of families growing food through community gardens managed by the depot, intergeneration meals, cultural cooking, good food markets, and just so much more. I'm excited that Yelp will be doing more to be involved with supporting this world-changing organization in the future, so Yelp Elites watch for that, and everyone go check them out and see if there are ways that make sense for you to get involved. Because this is the good stuff.
