The 11 Best Kolaches In Houston, Ranked

"Le Donut follows the old Texan rule—bigger is better. Regular sizes are available, but the best kolaches here are the giant ones seemingly designed for a bear. The larger the size, the more snappy sausage and bits of jalapeño there are per bite. And while dough might not be the fluffiest in the city, a kolache from this Medical Center bakery can make any early morning errands more exciting." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene, julie takahashi

Homey small business. Fair pricing for fresh handmade pastries. Sausage cheese kolache is amazing! Owner threw in some free donut holes too :) Thank you! Will definitely be coming back.

Google
Holy cow!! IYKYK, but I guess you don't, which is why you're reading this. Let me tell you. Come here with an empty stomach, an expandable waistband, and lots of money. These folks are LEGIT. The bearclaw was the best I have ever had. The blueberry was so moist, and the kolache was supreme. Le Donut translates to THE donut, and that is correct. There are no others. Best game in town.

Google
We tried Le Donut today as we wanted something to cure our sweet tooth. Definitely delivered!! My son got a long john, wife got a chocolate filled donut and ham and cheese croissant and I got a blueberry cake donut and a sausage kolache. It was all amazing!! The lady working the register was so kind!! She threw in a couple of donut holes in each bag. She also gave my son a chocolate donut. I wanted to go get more but they were closed already. We live in San Antonio and I am now scared that I will be making a 4 hour trip for great donuts!!!!

Google
Support the local community!!! This place is a good solid donut store. Food always consistently delicious. The nice ladies behind counter are very attentive. Sell both donuts and kolachies. Have a fridge with soft drinks and all flavors of milk so take your pick. Have fresh coffee too. Small dining area. Nice and clean. I will come back.

Google
In medical center area and decided to try. Service was friendly. Got a jumbo kolache. Very good. The only knock is that this kolache was $4.99. Usually in a jumbo go for $3-4. I know pricing is due to being in this area. It's delicious but just too pricey to again.

Google
They don’t care about customers and keep talking their language non stop like a radio no respect it’s all about money no loyalty in front of customers that’s not polite their product is stale s as not fresh specially the doughnuts aren’t fluffy not risen fast processed coffee has weird flavor and rushing to take next customer no cordial communication with customers not even acknowledging just the register and I’ve been accused of taking coffee without paying despite I showed my cup when I entered the store and once I got my turn to register I open the cup thankfully it was almost empty and I told the woman I showed you my cup when I enter she replied your cup looks like ours ……. Been judged and accused… lousy service and business bad mentality

Google
The prices are too high for cheaply made unhealthy food. Voodoo Donuts are much bigger and cost less, I will not be shopping here ever again. I don't care how many donut holes they throw in for "free".

Google
Such a good, solid donut. The ladies there always are so kind and generous! My favorite donut place in Houston.

Yelp
Living so close to Le Donut, I kept telling myself I needed to go and finally left "early" on a weekend to check it out. We got here around ~11AM on a Sunday morning and luckily, they still had quite a few options. This is a pretty small, casual takeout breakfast/donut shop. Walking in we were greeted very warmly by the staff and owner. They were patient with us as we were trying to make decisions on what to get and chatted with us. We ended up getting a smoked brisket and boudin kolache along with a variety of donuts. The kolaches were both so good, the boudin one was very filling and had a great spice to it. The smoked brisket tasted like a char siu bao in the best way with a very fluffy and soft bun and a smokey, sweet, and tang brisket filling. The donuts were also all great and the cake donuts were particularly moist. The owner was also very sweet and gave us a couple free donuts along the way. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quick, casual breakfast or wanting any donuts. They're apparently open this Thanksgiving (2025) so drop by and show them some love in the morning!

Yelp
The lady who works there is super nice and usually gives you extra donut holes - great customer service. The kolaches are 3/5. I really like the donuts though, they remind me of more of a cake donut and don't have too much icing. Sausage cheese croissant- try it! not pictured.
google avatar

Claire W.

Yelp
Le donut is so so so good. Service is amazing, donuts are exactly what you would want. I've never gone in where someone hasn't thrown an extra donut or donut holes in my box. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Long overdue review but I love Le Donut. The ladies that run this small local donut shop are so nice and friendly, and many times have given me donut holes free of charge! It's close to my school so I like to come for a post-exam treat and my go-to is either the cronut or a blueberry cake donut. Both delicious but this is one of the only donut shops in Houston where I've seen the cronut and it's so flaky and delicious! They offer a glazed and a cinnamon dusted version but I've been told that they make very few of the cinnamon ones so come early if you want to try that!

Darrell P.

Yelp
Service was an absolute treat. I purchased donuts and kolaches, they were extremely good! I definitely plan on returning frequently.

Yelp
Donut shops are big business in Texas and many of them tend to be like a small cafe, Asian owned, and catering to a very local crowd. Le Donut is no exception and generally do a good job with most of what they offer. While it might seem like they're like other donut spots, they definitely do some things better than others. Also, I think the name is genius. (#1) In the mornings, this place smells like a fresh bakery. There is a steady flow of Med Center professionals coming in and out with their hot coffee, donuts and/or sandwiches. It's a fun scene, albeit a busy one, and easily the busiest store in their mini strip-mall plaza. Parking is solid, but can be a tad tough when they're at capacity. I'm a sucker for cake donuts over yeast ones and I'm pleased to report Le has a good number of both. The bavarian and sprinkles are always going to be a big hit with the youngins, but I personally enjoy their apple fritters, bear claws, eclairs, and plain glazed. Most of the flavors offered are typical but all are certainly worth trying. If cronuts are available, get all of them. For a dozen donuts, it's roughly $13. I am an even bigger fan of their ham and cheese croissant, as well as their selection of kolaches. For the latter, they have a jumbo sausage and cheese that is tasty and the jalapeño version is even better. The bacon, egg, and cheese kolache is in such demand that it's almost always out. Boudin and smoked brisket are always good choices. It's actually one of the better kolache spots in the area and should be heated up prior to consumption. The staff is super nice. They're really generous with dropping a few donut holes here and there and do a good job with the arrangements / packaging. These ladies never rush even if there are others waiting and generally do it all with a smile. They close promptly each day at 1pm or whenever they sell out. They accept credit cards and/or cash. Parking is never an issue and calling ahead of time to confirm availability is never a bad idea. ___________ (#1) Likely a family surname and it fits perfectly with the theme.

Yelp
If you need donuts before an early shift in Houston's formidable TMC healthcare labyrinth, Le Donut is a great spot. They open promptly at 5:00 daily and have a broad selection of donuts and kolaches to properly shower all your coworkers and team members with warm sugary (or savory) confections. It's a humble, straightforward "grab & go counter service" but the staff are prompt and friendly. We have tried some but not yet all of their offerings but have been delighted thus far. Le Donut for the win (FTW)!!
google avatar

Robin J.

Yelp
It was okay, they had a croissant donut that I really did enjoy tho melted in your mouth kolaches for some reason never have enough cheese in them Anymore. It's not just this location its all I see

Aaron F.

Yelp
Not worth it IMO. Went to try a cronut. It must've fallen over in the fryer so was misshaped and tasted like nothing but oil
google avatar

Alyssa G.

Yelp
I tried this spot on a whim one day and was amazed at how good the Cronuts were! I have never had something like it so it was a surprisingly good change up from the regular donut. They have huge brisket kolaches that are to die for as well as ham and cheese croissants! They are so kind to throw in an extra bag of donut holes and I find that extremely thoughtful. As for the prices, they are a bit expensive. I had to call after the second time I went because it's hard for me to ask "what did I get for $X.XX??" in person so I just leave paying whatever they say. Brisket kolache- $5.49; Ham and cheese crossaint- $4.49; Cronuts- $3 for 1 I may go back every 6 months or so if I'm craving a cronut but other than that, I'll go to a different mom and pop shop.
google avatar

Sophia J.

Yelp
Great mom and pop donut store. It is a hole in the wall but the food is amazing. All different types of donuts. The glazed and iced donuts were soft and fluffy. Amazing flavor. I bought 2 dozen variety of flavors and my friends completed both boxes in matter of minutes.
google avatar

Stacy L.

Yelp
Wonderful small local business. They offer a wide variety of donuts and breakfast sandwiches. There were so many options it was hard to narrow down what I wanted. The sweet lady running the shop was very kind. She gave us an extra free treat. The prices are great and the offerings were much better that anything you can get at a chain. I also witnessed the sweet lady bagging up donuts and a drink that she took to a homeless gentleman that was behind the building. This absolutely touched my heart. This is a business that I will continually patronize.

Yelp
What person don't like donuts!! I decided to give this place a try. I visited around 9:15 on a Saturday morning. I seen everyone raving about the crossinut However I was too late snd they was all sold out. Therefore, I settle with a sausage, cheese, jalapeño kolache, red velvet, coconut bad original glaze. Everything was delicious. This establishment isn't your typical chain donut establishment like Krispy Kreme, Shirpley's or Dunkins. FYI they also throw in a few free donut holes!!!
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Le Donut has become our go-to spot for donuts and kolaches! Some of my favorites here are the red velvet cake donut (always been a fan of cake donuts, if you are too this is one of the best) and the sausage, jalapeño, & cheese kolache. The people working here have always been very friendly too. If you are in the area, I definitely recommend stopping by for a quick breakfast.

Yelp
I LOVE a good mom and pop donut shop. I grew up in Dallas where there is a mom and pop local donut shop on like every other street. And this was hugely reminiscent of that for me. It's a small shop off Old Spanish near the med center, perfect for me to grab donuts on the way to work. It's homey inside, and the owners greeted us immediately with big smiles and wonderful hospitality. They let me pick every single donut I wanted in my dozen, down to exactly which sprinkled chocolate or which Bavarian I wanted. They always throw in some extra hospitality with my order too. Just love them and love to support their business. Their donuts are very good as well. Clearly made the morning of. Bavarian is my favorite and theirs did not disappoint. I inhaled it.
google avatar

Cheyene S.

Yelp
The sweetest people ever, and the best donuts ever. If you haven't had a cronut, RUN. They also have boudain kolaches, which moving from SETX it's hard to find a good boudain kolache. Theirs are the only things remotely even close and they're super good and a good spice. The only thing I'll say is there breakfast burritos suck, but everything else definitely makes up for it. Love my local donut shop
google avatar

BigSarge P.

Yelp
I stop in every time I have a VA appointment. Asian-owned, good customer service, quick service. Good donuts and other Items.
google avatar

Misha T.

Yelp
Grabbed some quick kolaches here and they did not disappoint. Dough was nice and fluffy, price was right. Size was good. Some might say this place lacks ambiance but it in fact has solid donut shop ambiance, which makes sense since it's a donut shop!
google avatar

Casey C.

Yelp
This is a perfect "no frills" type donut shop! And the donuts are DELICIOUS!! The owners/staff are incredibly friendly, kind, and helpful! What more could you want?! I've had the glazed, chocolate icing, strawberry icing, and sprinkles donuts... all were incredible and fresh! Definitely gonna keep Le Donut in my donut shop rotation!
google avatar

Kalen P.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Best neighborhood donut shop. I'm a huge Shipley's fan, but y'all...... they are better. The staff are sooo nice and friendly! Run to this donut spot!

Munoz S.

Yelp
Great donuts. Very fresh and soft, tasty. I would recommend this place in all med centers. I've been coming here for years. Staff is nice and pleasant . Very happy as well.

Yelp
Came here this morning with the plan to try a new place and purchase some donuts for the team. The donut shop is as unassuming as the plaza that it sits in. I've driven passed this place twice a day for three years and never new it existed! Upon entering, my eyes immediately fell on the cronuts... Since they became a fad a few years ago, I've always wanted to try them. I purchased half a dozen cronuts, half a dozen assorted, and received a free blueberry donut, red velvet donut and some donut holes in celebration of National Donut Day. My order with tip was about $20. The cronut tasted like glazed croissant (lol) which is to be expected, I suppose. The glazed donut was tasty, light, and airy. These donuts sorry if reminded me of Shipley's more do than Dunkin, which is a great thing. The ladies who served me were very friendly and jovial and made me smile. I definitely wouldn't mind returning when I get my next donut craving.
google avatar

JoAnna N.

Yelp
I love this place! All of the counter staff are incredibly friendly while being very efficient which is hard to find in a breakfast establishment this busy. Don't let the name fool you they have the best selection of breakfast croissants that I've ever seen. They also have kolache's and I think breakfast tacos. I don't know for sure because they have an excellent bacon egg and cheese breakfast croissant and a red velvet cake doughnut that causes me to forget that I don't eat donuts. And delicious donut holes! The chicken mushroom croissant is also really good!
google avatar

Carolyn H.

Yelp
Came here on my way to work this morning for the first time and sadly wasn't impressed. The donut holes were just okay and a little dry. The small jalapeño and cheese kolache didn't have much spice or enough jalapeños. The spicy boudin was good, however not spicy enough. For 3 things I paid $8.30 and thought it was too expensive. I don't think I will back.
google avatar

Lovy V.

Yelp
I love it here! They're donuts are perfectly sized and delicious. They also have an assortment of savory options for those who want something more hearty. The service here is great and I would highly recommend!

Samantha M.

Yelp
The donuts were ok, but the green apple smoothie was great. They add filling fresh too
google avatar

Magdalena C.

Yelp
I went to get some donuts today and also bought a sausage croissant kolache and oh my God it was so good the service was amazing they gave me a free donut holes I highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Heather G.

Yelp
The ladies that work here are really kind and welcoming. The definitely know who their regulars are, as they ask about their weekend or whatnot. They offer a variety of donuts, pastries, a decent cup of no frills coffee (with choice of creamers). Prices are also reasonable. I highly recommend coming and supportive this local business !

Dominique S.

Yelp
My first time here and they were so kind and attentive! They gave me some extra donut holes as well. The donuts were a hit with my coworkers, they are fluffy and not greasy. I had the blueberry donut and it was delicious.
google avatar

Caroline B.

Yelp
3.5 stars but rounding up for service (aka complimentary donut holes!) I ordered a cinnamon twist and an apple fritter, my go-to donut types. Personally, I found the CINNAMON TWIST to be lacking in cinnamon flavor and actually may have needed a touch more sugar. The APPLE FRITTER is perfect for those who like the crispy bits of fritters, as the whole thing is pretty crispy. However, personally, I like the gooey doughy parts of apple fritters so I was a little disappointed this fritter didn't have that. Also I thought the apples were akin to generic apple pie pilling-- small apple cubes and this distinct apple pie flavoring you might find from a Marie Callender apple pie. In any case, I personally prefer larger apple chunks and am not a fan of the apple pie flavor in my fritter. Personal preference though! TBH, I think my favorite item from Le Donut was the donut holes. Those were nice and airy and the right amount of sweetness! The kolaches looked good, maybe next time I'll try those and a cake donut. Otherwise, I'll be sticking to my Shipley's cinnamon twist. Went in to the store for pick-up; service was friendly and quick. Employees wearing face masks and gloves. Plastic separator at cashier. Date visited: 11/28/20

A V.

Yelp
Seriously the sweetest ladies that work there. The breakfast sandwiches and almond. We love the weekend breakfasts with le donut.

Carly L.

Yelp
The absolute best service I have ever received at any restaurant/ cafe. The staff was so willing to accommodate and even gave us a huge bag of donut holes and 3 free donuts. Not to mention, the donuts were the BEST I have EVER EATEN! I would recommend the glazed twist. It was so dense and even had a hint of cinnamon. DELICIOUS 10/10 recommend!!
google avatar

Julianne D.

Yelp
My kiddo and I began coming to this donut shop after becoming tired of the rather chewy kolaches from other donut chains. The amazing reviews also influenced us to try this location out.....needless to say, we haven't turned back! If you haven't tried Le Donut, you must! The owner is delightful to interact with and offers to warm your items up at no additional cost. We've tried the jalapeño and cheese kolache and donut holes and both are delicious. The donut holes are very plump and melt in your mouth and the kolaches don't leave your mouth with unknown non-dissolvable items. Do yourself a favor and try this place out!

Tori A.

Yelp
Amazing donuts and even better service!! The nicest employees you'll find anywhere. Absolutely love this place!
google avatar

Rose N.

Yelp
I was looking for a mom & pop donut/kolache shop. I came in early after my shift, to pick up 4 dozen kolaches for my following shift. I was deciding between kolaches or bundtinis. Kolaches were significantly cheaper, more flavor, and more filling than bundtinis. The lady threw in 4 bags of donut holes. That was really nice! The kolaches are good as well!! Thank you! I will be coming back.
google avatar

Tommy L.

Yelp
I've been going here for years so it's about time I leave my review. I love Le Donut! My usual order is a sausage, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich with one or two cronuts (croissant donut). If you haven't had a cronut, please try it. I love peeling it apart and eating the layers one by one. I believe I've tried everything and it's all good here. Everything is made fresh daily. The staff is also great and honestly might be the best part about this place. I always have a pleasant experience with them when I come here. They're kind, hardworking, and polite. I feel like I'm buying donuts from my mom each time I come here. So y'all give them a try and please be nice to my second parents (not really my family lol).
google avatar

Stacy Toole H.

Yelp
Soo FRESH!!! The ladies that serve are very nice & appreciative of business patrons :) Everything tastes yummy here! I love they're fun box packaging & a nice purple bag. Good prices. Kolaches...Mmmmm!
google avatar

Jennifer V.

Yelp
I love kolaches and enjoy exploring local kolache/donut shops. I got their regular jalapeño sausage cheese kolache but it was good but super small and overpriced sadly (I prefer Dawn Donuts' kolaches near me). My friend and I also got a cronut and creme filled donut. ($2 each) He really liked the creme filled donut and I found the cronut very tough. The lady at front was very nice and threw in extra donuts (not sure if because we're first timers or because we came right before closing) which were Red Velvet, blueberry cake, and bear claw(?). The red velvet and blueberry cake donuts were pretty good.
google avatar

Kat M.

Yelp
This place was great! Donuts were delicious and the lady behind the counter was so smiley and sweet! Great service, great product :)
google avatar

Mindy L.

Yelp
Highly recommend this family business to anyone who's craving some donuts, croissants, or kolaches. We used Doordash to order during Covid, and everything was well-packed and wrapped with care. We had the glazed donuts and variety of other items (boudin kolache, ham+cheese croissant), apple fritter. All tasted fresh and not overly sweet. Would definitely order from them again!
google avatar

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
The ladies here are SO friendly! They greet you with a lovely smile and kind words when you walk in and always seem to be happy to see you. On top of this, they never fail to add in a couple freebies with your order - it's quite mindboggling how they manage to stay in business with this kind of excellent charity. But I love it. They've got a small and large size for their kolaches for your convenience. A wide variety of selections including glazed, filled, old-fashioned, in all different shapes and flavors. Kolaches are also offered in a croissant version which is incredibly flaky and buttery. They always offer to heat things up for you without having to be asked. $4 credit card mimimum. Wide selection of drinks in fridge.' Parking is never a problem.
google avatar

Ken H.

Yelp
This place has good donuts and such. I got an apple fritter and it was the best I've eaten because it was thin. Usually they are thicker and thus too much bread. She had a Cronut (a doughnut-croissant). She liked it but said it tasted pretty much like a regular donut. If we'd had more time I would gotten one of their sausage kolachies but I was saved from myself by time.
google avatar

Carl E.

Yelp
Yabba dabba Donuts! Still open and delicious during the Conona social distancing ordeal! Take out what only, of course.
google avatar

Lindsey S.

Yelp
After my heinous experience with Shipley's not long ago, I was hoping for a better experience at a donut shop in Houston, a place I can call my go-to for the occasional sweet treat. Le Donut is a hole in the wall, locally-owned donut shop near the Texas Med Center, so I figured I'd try it out when I was in the area. I walked in to Le Donut and was immediately greeted by the wonderful, smiling lady behind the counter! She said "good morning sweetie! How are you??" with a huge grin and idk, it just made my day! In addition to a wide selection of fresh donuts, she also pointed me to an entire display of kolaches. I ordered a half dozen donuts-two glazed, two chocolate iced, one vanilla iced with sprinkles, and one cinnamon bun. As I was paying for them, the lady grabbed a red velvet donut and stuffed it in my bag for no extra cost, just to be nice. Ugh, as if she already didn't make my day the moment I walked in! The donuts themselves are really good. Freshly made, doughy and sweet, but not overly sweet or drowning in goo or grease. Just right. I ended up loving the red velvet one! It had a satisfying crunchy icing on the outside, and delicious cake on the inside. 10/10 would order again. I grew up on hot and fresh Krispy Kreme, which is honestly hard to beat, but Le Donut, at least for as long as I'm in Houston, looks like it will be my new spot for donuts. The food, service, and commitment to quality is all there and I'm looking forward to coming back. :)
google avatar

Wendy D.

Yelp
Only donut place I've given a 5* review so far because they're just so damn fresh! ALSO GET THE CRONUTS, they are to die for. I don't even remember what else we ordered because when I come back, I'm just going to order a dozen cronuts. They come out incredibly warm and fresh; warning, they might be sold out early though so get 'em bright and early. When I get a car, I might need to do morning donut runs. Other good donuts: strawberry icing, Bavarian cream filled Not so favorites: lemon-filled
google avatar

Keisha R.

Yelp
Best donuts and the best people! The donuts melt in your mouth! I love just plain glazed donuts and there's is so good. The jumbo kolaches are really good too. The bread is soft and buttery. I get the sausage and jalapeño kolache and they're always great. The staff is always friendly and quick with their service. It's a great deal as the items are reasonably priced. The store does have a few tables but most people get their food to go. I highly recommend Le Donut if you are in the medical center.

Kevin K.

Yelp
Well this is a good news bad news review. First the good news. I live north of Houston so I am only down that way a few times a year! Because of this I am able to maintain my weight! Bad new is their food and service was absolutely great. Since I live so far away I will only get to eat here a few times a year!! I hit what I thought were frosted cake blueberry donuts. I had that but the manner they make then is different from anyone else. They were great. Miso uv you are driving by and what a snack or a dozen for the office this is the place to get them!!!! Service was A+ too.
google avatar

Chi V.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here on a whim. The service we had was delightful with a small, cheerful Cambodian woman helping us. It's a small shop, with delicious cronuts. Will definitely be back here again!
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
This is one of my go to donut place near where I live and one of the rare place that has cronut in Houston. I love their freshly made glazed donuts, cronuts, and krullers. They also have decent kolaches in general. I did notice some days might not be good as others but overall good.
