The Best Restaurants in Boulder, Colorado | Eater Denver

"Run by French natives, this European deli and market brings a bit of Paris to the Rockies. Walk in for fabulous sandwiches such as the Le Raclette with ham and cornichons on a toasted baguette or the Provençal with tuna salad and egg on a pretzel bun; walk out with an armload of tinned mussels, jars of ratatouille, bottles of olive oil, fancy chocolates, and more (just don’t forget the sandwich)." - Ruth Tobias

Google
Such a hidden treasure in Boulder. The sandwich I ordered was perfection. I am not a prosciutto fan so I got what was a caprese sandwich instead. Everything was fresh, the price was great, and I love finding locally owned places like this that you can't find anywere else. Incredible cheese selection and bought lots of goodies to take back to Texas with me. I'll be back!

GHOSTDOG58

Google
Amazing sandwich! Simple amounts of ingredients but complex flavors, just like the amazing food we ate in Paris.

Kent Schrock

Google
There are excellent options to choose from and the quality of the products are fantastic. A great place to get authentic products from Italy and Spain. The girl working here was friendly but she had a large number of orders and customers so she had a difficult time keeping up. She most certainly could have used some help! We'll be stopping in every chance we get.

Google
stop in for classic European sandwiches right here in Boulder. this reminds me of traveling in Alsace, with little hints of Germany, France and Switzerland. by far, the best thing happening here was the laugenbrot. the sandwiches we had were both served on it. This took me back to bites at the train station and was a welcome memory. That said the flavors were a bit bland for an American pallette, prices were quite high relative to what you would pay in Europe, and the service was more akin to European in tone. The shop had plenty of amazing things to bring home and make your European moments authentic. one should expect to pay a bit more for this in the middle of the US, and of course, the Boulder tax. I look forward to returning and updating my reviews over time.

Google
Le Frigo is the most unreliable restaurant in Boulder. Which is very unfortunate because the food is great, but it is impossible to get it. They cancel Uber Eats orders, are not aware of their own menu (eg they once cancelled our order because they didn't know that they have a charcuterie board that we've been ordering for years! Google Maps literally suggest it as a reviewed item, and it is one of the first photos, lol) and simply forget to close Uber Eats delivery when they are no longer taking orders.

Andreas Hoenger

Google
This is a fine little shop with excellent sandwiches and a extensive variety of cheeses and other fine food. I regularly by bread (pretzels), cheese, sausages, pasta, and other things, and the quality is always outstanding. They also have a couple of really magnificent olive oils, jams, pates, and quiches.

Cindy Sepucha

Google
Le Frigo is such a hidden gem! They carry all the hard-to-find French and European delicacies—and their French sandwiches are hands down the best I’ve had anywhere in the U.S. I can’t believe I only discovered it last year, and it’s been in Boulder for over a decade!

Google
$17 for a sandwich, with tip, that was almost entirely filled with very wilted if not slimy arugula. It was just bread and arugula, barely any cheese, meat, peaches. Prosciutto was good but constantly had to pull out hard bits that weren't edible. And then when I get to the store no one will come to the register and the person working is texting, sees me, turns their back further to me. Really disappointing given the reviews.

Yelp
I generally hate sandwiches (except banh mi). This place is just *chef's kiss*. My bf brings home sandwiches from here about once a month - consistent quality every time. The bread: Texture is perfect. Crisp on the outside. Chewy bread with the perfect inside softness from the air bubbles. Different choices to choose from but I like the basic French baguette. The filling: Perfect portion. Not overly stuffed and no skimping on ingredients. High quality and tasty flavor combos - favorites are the Catalan and Italian. I like how they change it up and offer special and seasonal sandwiches. I have yet to try their soups. The desserts: Not into their sweets but my bf loves trying different ones, especially their fruit mousses/puddings in a glass. If you're going to grab a dessert, go earlier in the day for more options. Service: Quick and polite. Space: A place for pickup; not a place to sit down and relax. Extra: They also sell imported items, like pasta, sauces, spreads, cheese, butter, etc. Pricey - only the French cheese and butter are worth the price for me personally.

Yelp
I Love Italian sandwiches, this place does it well. Simple sandwiches, quality ingredients. The pros: high quality meat, cheese, bread; quick to receive after ordering. The cons: baguette can a bit too crunchy and can tear up the roof of your mouth Certainly has a spot in the Boulder sandwich lineup and does simple sammys well. Also got a piece of chocolate cake it was fantastic.

Yelp
Looking for a delicious sandwich in Boulder and feel like giving up after trying all the usual spots (and paying $19)? Well this is the place to get a delicious sandwich! I've found that all the other spots have multi grain that tastes like cardboard. Here they have a pretzel roll. Omg. It is so delicious! I had mortadella, mozzarella, arugula and mayo. Mind blown. I also picked up a jar of pistacchioso (pistachio cream that is extremely delicious) and spread a little of that on there. Omg. The best sandwich I've ever had in Boulder. This place is lovely and everything in the deli and the grocery is high quality and delicious. It's so hard to find good food in Boulder. We are so happy to have found this French deli.

Yelp
Bonjour! If anyone asks if I, Phil H., want to come back to Le Frigo, the answer will always be Oui Oui. My Introduction to Feline Orthodontics classmate and I visited Le Frigo on the hottest day of the week to cool off in the cheese cooler and look around for authentic Parisian snacks! They have tinned fish, amazing cheeses, charcuterie meats, and fresh dried pasta! The deli was incredible as well, they had fresh bread and sliced meats! We ordered the Le Deviled which was INCREDIBLE if you love a deviled egg. It wasn't dry at all as it had a little bit of spread and was absolutely delicious to have on a hot day! The Le Frigo Royale was equally delicious with fresh butter, delightful and crispy cornichons, topped with parisian ham and prosciutto. We definitely want to come back because it would be imPOSSible to order wrong! For the size of the sandwich, the price is very fair. Would love to try their french onion soup and maybe another sandwich next time! Au Revoir, Phil

Yelp
Once again a great sandwich served by super friendly people! And the shop has the most interesting and delicious provisions for a variety of occasions. This is a neighborhood deli and small grocery store that makes me feel like I did as a kid. You are greeted with a smile and always told thank you! I ordered the New Orleans which I had never gotten before. It was delicious! I loved the olive salad on the sandwich. My husband ordered a favorite: Le FRIGO Royal and as we like to say, "so really yummy".

Yelp
Was hungry for a sandwich and stopped in at Le Frigo. Picked up a Le Catalan. Prosciutto, chorizo, manchego, arugula, and olive aioli on a baguette. Might be the best sandwich I've had in years...maybe ever. Get this! Also good: the Torres Mediterranean Herbs chips. A delicious accompaniment!

Yelp
Le Frigo is a fabulous little place. We often get charcuterie, pate etc. and have it on the patio with a nice glass of wine or take on a picnic. The baguettes are great. They have a really amazing cold room with tons of fabulous cheeses. The sandwiches are different than you find most places but always interesting to try different ones and always delicious. Melanie and her staff are so helpful when you have questions about meats, cheeses etc. it is kind of a hidden gem. Nice wine/ liquor store next door. We go pretty regularly and have never been disappointed.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Sandwich perfection!!! The baguette was on point. Cute little shop too. Highly recommend

Lauren C.

Yelp
I'm giving 2 stars bc their baguette is very good but I highly early don't know how anyone can make such a chintzy sandwich, So dry bc the balsamic vinegar was a tiny dot in the middle of the bread, literally 1 skinny slice of meat, not enough cheese or tomato to cover the sandwich, terrible. I have no gone twice and same result so I guess be prepared to me hungry when you ate do
google avatar

Samara S.

Yelp
For lovely, simple, high quality sandwiches, it's the only place to go. Don't know what to order? Spin the wheel- you can't lose. And it goes without saying but I'll say it- don't sleep on the cheese room.
google avatar

Danny W.

Yelp
Grabbed a "le New Orleans" sandwich to split for dinner. I asked for extra olive salad and this mufaletta on a baguette was very tasty. Great bread. Great toppings and the olive salad was slightly spicy which was great. Lots of fun deli foods to browse and pick up too while here. Good cheese selection.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town - and was immediately drawn to Le Frigo. Would definitely come back to the area for all of their sandwiches
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches that we picked up before a hike to the Rocky Mountain National Park. If I was a local I would visit this place every week! The place is small but they have a cheese cooler! It felt like a little French butcher shop. The server was informative and helpful. There isn't a place to eat inside so keep that in mind if you are looking for a place to sit and eat.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped into Le Frigo for lunch today and it was good! I ordered the Le Med sandwich, and I enjoyed the sweet apricot jam contrasted with the spices on the meat. The sandwich was very good and the pretzel roll was yummy, though it wasn't the best sandwich I have ever had, and some of the other reviews say. Service was fast, and everyone behind the counter was extremely friendly. The selection of pasta, flour, and other goods sold at Le Frigo was great, especially to have a few gluten free options. The store is cute and clean. There aren't many seating options if you do dine in, especially on a cold day when you don't want to use outdoor tables, though it appeared most orders were grab and go (perfect for lunch). Overall, I enjoyed my lunch here a lot and would come back!

Fred S.

Yelp
Great deli sandwiches. The baguettes are excellent! The variety of European delicacies are fantastic. Le Frigo offers an array of delicious cheeses in its walk-in refrigerator. Certainly a hidden gem in Boulder.

Yelp
I came here en route to Rocky Mountain NP. They have a raclette sandwich here. Traditionally, raclette is melted cheese, boiled potatoes, and ham. They don't have boiled potatoes here. Instead of ham, the French owner substituted a vegan chorizo. So, basically, it was raclette cheese, vegan chorizo, arugula, and tomatoes. Not what I had in mind but it was good. Their bread is amazing!!
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Great little cheese shop with delicious sandwiches and deli meats too. Super friendly staff will recommend and serve you.
google avatar

Tiffani H.

Yelp
I don't think there's anything special about this place. The sandwich was very mediocre and the older gentleman' working was Very rude. The bread was very dry and lacking flavor. I did like the arugula inside the sandwich, but other than that nothing about the food is worth coming back for. There is a snarfs in the same shopping center and I should've gone there instead. They have some retail items for sale as well, and as I was waiting for my sandwich, I was walking around looking at some olives that looked good. I asked the man how much they were since nothing had a price on them and I know he heard me, but he just looked at me and completely ignored me. It was really awkward. So, $38 later with two sandwiches and a small bowl of soup, I feel like I completely overspent on a very mediocre lunch. . Boo! That was expensive bad meal and experience.
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
Not inexpensive, but if you want to grab food quickly for a picnic, it would be hard to do better than Le Frigo. Their sandwiches are quite good, especially the bread, and they have a bunch of random snacks that you can throw in your picnic basket too, assuming that you live in a different decade and actually have such a basket.
google avatar

Charles P.

Yelp
Sandwiches are super good. Catalan on pretzel is ridiculously tasty. 10/10 would recommend!!

Yuri V.

Yelp
Unfortunately we were very disappointed by the food quantity. We ordered two sandwiches one Italian and one Catalan, the sandwiches tasted bland. Portions of the meat were laughable, unfortunately the sandwiches were definitely a mistake. Only give it a two star because how quick they were made since we placed the order online.
google avatar

Ernie H.

Yelp
Ordered 3 sandwiches for pickup. 1 of the sandwiches did not include chorizo plus extra chorizo as ordered. Called the restaurant upon getting home, in which they were very defiant and unfriendly. WOW!!! Pretty bad customer service.
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
Delicious authentic sandwiches, with really fresh baguettes. And they have a cheese room!
google avatar

Howard F.

Yelp
The Soubras' deli offer some of the best cheeses, meats, pates, and assorted foreign products for purchase, and some brilliant sandwiches made to order just like in Paris, but with a few unique twists. A few of the sandwich specials vary by season, but we took advantage of the Louisiana, the Med, and Le Frigo Royale -- all were delicious. Also, the fresh French baguettes and pain au chocolat are perfect. Worth a visit to Boulder all on its own.

AJ L.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in Boulder! This tiny little shop delivers big flavor. The bread is baked to perfection, and the toppings are simple but flavorful. I love looking at all the international food and cheeses while I wait for my lunch.

Nate O.

Yelp
The French guy who owns the store is very nice and respectful. I've been to a lot of sandwich places in Boulder and this one is by far the best with a wide variety of unique options. The food is all very fresh and delicious. The shop itself is very aesthetic and welcoming. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Ben J.

Yelp
There's a lot of hype behind this restaurant; however, when I ordered their Italian sandwich, I was disappointed to find that their sandwiches were ready-made and not made-to-order.

Gabriela R.

Yelp
I've ordered from here before and the last time had a great experience, but today I found a super long hair in my sandwich. Pretty hard to miss. This killed my appetite and unfortunately, this order ended up being $30 bucks down the drain.
google avatar

Marlo C.

Yelp
Great local spot with cheese & treats galore! Their refrigerated room of cheeses made me feel like a kid in a candy shop. I've visited a few times and each time I found several awesome cheeses to try- including options from Spain, Ireland, and France. The woman working at the register has always been very helpful and friendly. Their sandwiches look great too - but unfortunately there's not a lot of vegetarian options! Based on other yelpers reviews, I'll definitely need to give the sandwiches a try after my month of vegetarianism ends.
google avatar

Tess S.

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches! Definitely the best I've had in Boulder. I got the Italian sandwich and my fiance got the Le Duck sandwich special. Super flavorful, quality ingredients, and good prices. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Madeleine S.

Yelp
Absolutely FIRE sandwiches. So much flavor, such good ingredients, great mix of classic tastes and more unique options. I would go way out of my way to eat here again and will be bringing out of town guests. Love it!!
google avatar

Jonny H.

Yelp
Amazing little mom & pop French delicatessen and cheese shop serving quality sandwiches, right across from Snarf's. Show 'em some love the next time you're in East Boulder. C'est magnifique!

Charic D.

Yelp
The sandwiches were delicious although the bread was a little hard. I wish there were more places to sit to eat lunch. All three of us dropped our sandwiches as we tried to eat at the outside table. The gentleman taking the orders was very personable. Overall good experience. I'd get the sandwiches to go next time.

Steve M.

Yelp
Best sandwich in Boulder! Would go out of my way to go back. I had the Brooklyn and my wife had the Med and they were both amazing. Excited to go back and try some of the other options.
google avatar

Danit C.

Yelp
Bought a bunch of stuff for a special celebration and they were so helpful! Loved their choices.... will go back!

Phillip B.

Yelp
Our first time to Le Frigo did not disappoint. Fabulous sandwiches and an amazing assortment of culinary delights

Abraham J.

Yelp
Nice establishment, service was great, sandwich was delicious. No complaints here. I will def be back.
google avatar

Brent J.

Yelp
I'll keep it short. Everything was awesome, including the staff (who seem to be the owners), and the people coming in. This is obviously a place that attracts repeat customers, and I felt a very strong neighborhood-favorite-place vibe. This was my first visit, won't be my last. It felt soooo comfortable, and the sandwiches (a Le Frigo, a Le Frigo Royal, and a ham and cheese croissant).... well, everyone loved without exception. I haven't felt this cheered up in a retail space in a long time. The woman in front of me in line was from Germany, and was in with her kids and her ageing grandparent, and was also entranced. It seems to be a European space rather than any specific country, although I'm guessing the owners are French.
google avatar

Charles M.

Yelp
In a town with few good restaurants but many great sandwiches, Le Frigo is hands-down the very best sandwich in Boulder. It is also a wonderful little French shop that I can't wait to visit again. And so, yes, my favorite restaurant in Boulder is a French sandwich shop.

Mary Pat K.

Yelp
Totally unexpected surprise! We went in for a quick bite based on the reviews and were surprised to see that the place was chocked full of European products. Ordered two sandwiches to go and they were amazingly fresh and so delicious. This is a must-try place! The only caution is there are only two small tables - one inside and one outside. But we also got a latte from Ozo's across the lot and enjoyed our sandwiches at the outdoor seats there. Definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Veronique C.

Yelp
So excited to have a new French grocery/deli on this side of town. The owner is French and knows about the products he's selling, he even makes some of it himself (like the rillettes.) They have a nice assortment of cheese, charcuterie, and other delicacies you'd find in a small French supermarket. For the most part, the prices are reasonable (for hard to find specialty food). They also offer sandwiches to go. I can't wait to taste what I bought there earlier today!

Steve M.

Yelp
Great food and the staff are real helpful This is our go to place for sandwiches and treats
google avatar

Micheal P.

Yelp
We have been eating here for over a year. Great sandwich's and other things. Love the way Brian makes his sandwichs. He is also very cheerful and helping.
google avatar

Steven W.

Yelp
So your looking for a sandwich that separates itself from the rest? Look no longer as Le Frigo uses top notch meats, cheeses and bread. The place is owned by a French gent and the main business is selling French cheeses and groceries. Many great selections of cheese and other assorted French grocery that can not be easily found in the states. The service was also great. I chatted with the host and he was happy and proud to chat about the store, its history and what they provided. Just a really great local French grocery that gives us a much better sandwich. You should check this joint out!
google avatar

Cheryl E.

Yelp
The sandwiches here are 1000% perfect!!! The owner is very nice. I will absolutely go back anytime I am in Boulder. :)
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
Sandwiches are very French, very special. Made on the perfect baguette with fresh and delicious ingredients, they absolutely made our day in Boulder. We will return next time we head that way from FoCo.

Dorian H.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite place in Boulder. The French shop's interior is amazing to browse through and reminds me of my childhood. The sandwiches are simple yet delicious. And the couple (and others) that run it are extremely friendly.

James E.

Yelp
Grabbed some sandwiches on the way back to Denver from el Dora. Really spectacular! The person working (who I assumed to be the owner) was very friendly. Besides sandwiches they have a great selection of gourmet condiments, nibbles and sausages etc. Definitely would go back I recommend the Louisiana sandwhich
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Get yourself the Brooklyn (hot pastrami in a pretzel bun) and a Lemon Cookie for a treat. Better than Sam LaGrassa's in Boston. Top notch.
