Le Gentil

"This restaurant on the rue Surcouf, a street strewn with eateries, is the work of a Japanese pair, chef Fumitoshi Kumagai in the kitchen and his wife front of house. They propose contemporary French cuisine with the occasional Asian influence, such as pig's trotters stuffed with pak choi and beef faux-filet with a Japanese sauce." - Michelin Inspector

My mom and I are on vacation together for a mother, daughter trip. We came across this cute little restaurant by accident and quickly found that this was no accident... This fusion restaurant of French and Japanese was absolutely out of this world. The flavors were exquisite, each bite was excellent! We started with the soup of the day which seamed to be a curry, corn cream soup. I didn't take a photo but wish I did. We then both had a main dish, I got the Duck and my Mother had the scallops. We have no words but ...WOW! We finished with the tofu almond dessert, I had never tired a tofu desert but I figured since everything was incredible I'd give it a go. Again... WOW! We feel so lucky we came across this gem of a restaurant! Check it out!

Very small restaurant but very worth of coming. The food was tasty, the sea bream carpaccio was really fresh. The steak portion is Huge! I cannot even finish half of it. The vegetables in the meat dish were superb. The almond tofu dessert was light and yummy. This restaurant is in a small street of district 7 and it is surrounded by restaurants. Not fancy ambience. But I really prefer this one over the one cross street with 2 Michelin stars for its flavor.

A very cozy and delicious Japanese & French restaurant! The food was just amazing and the owner was super friendly and welcoming. We had a lunch menu. The beef was just perfect as well as the sauce. The dessert was good too. Would love to be back!

Le Gentil in Paris is a unique restaurant that beautifully blends French and Japanese cuisines, offering a creative and memorable dining experience. The dishes are not only delicious but also presented with artistic flair, sometimes incorporating 3D art, making each plate a visual delight as well as a treat for the palate. The pricing is very reasonable considering the high quality and craftsmanship of the food. The restaurant attracts a diverse crowd of Japanese, international, and French customers, which speaks to its broad appeal and excellent reputation. However, due to its popularity, it’s always busy, so reservations are essential to ensure you get a table.

Comfortable and relaxing restaurant with high level cuisine. With a touch of Japan, this is my favourite French restaurant in Paris. Additionally, this is the restaurant who serves the selection of Château La Croix Taillefer wines. (By glass and bottle. Enjoy!)

Small restaurant serving a small menu with a Japanese-inspired dish in each course. Service is swift and friendly. The ambience is lovely and they seem to attract locals as well as visitors. Everything was done with care and attention, and the taste is overall good. Although I feel there are too many types of sauces and ingredients on each dish so not everything is in perfect harmony. Personally I prefer simpler dishes with a focus on the main ingredient.

Such an amazing small, family owned restaurant featuring a fusion of French and Japanese flavors. Each dish is perfectly executed and the owners couldn’t be more welcoming. While you can’t go wrong with your order, the shrimp appetizer and basque cheesecake dessert are absolutely divine! Can’t wait to come back next time I’m in Paris.
