"This bistro on the outskirts of the city center has been around for such a long time it is practically an institution. Tables are laid out in two large rooms, where an excellent brunch is served until 2pm; at lunchtime, a handful of mains are available in addition to the brunch menu (Silesian dumplings, pan-fried lake perch, Cornish chicken). But it is in the evening that things really get going. The eggs Benedict is almost legendary; the desserts, such as the succulent fig tart, are a must, so save some room. A fine selection of beers and ciders lends itself to a multitude of original pairings. Booking is strongly advised." - Michelin Inspector

Recommended by the Michelin Guide and the locals, this restaurant truly lives up to its hype. Their brunch signature dishes were delightful and flavorful. The sea urchin scrambled eggs was rich and complex. The blood pudding was smooth and creamy. The staff was incredibly friendly. Valerie, in particular, was dynamic and cheerful, which made our meal all the more memorable.

Cute spot with really good service and really cute vibes. Like the name suggests, the ambiance is quite hobbit feeling. Cozy, comfortable and inviting. The eggs benedict is a little odd - unique for sure, but not my cup of tea. A bit too different for my personal liking. The chicken & waffles however were fantastic, and highly recommended. The deviled eggs looked delicious, would definitely try those the next time I'm in town. Lattes can use some work, but definitely one of the better lattes I've had at a brunch spot that isn't a dedicated cafe. Taste was good but latte art and milk texture needed some work. Overall a great spot for brunch.

We had a wonderful brunch at Le Hobbit, a Michelin-rated gem that blends creativity with comforting flavors. The presentation was beautiful across all dishes, but the flavors truly lived up to the visuals. I had the blood sausage dish, which was incredibly rich and well-balanced. The sausage was seared to perfection and served atop a smooth, smoky purée with blistered shishito peppers and a tangy onion-mustard topping that cut through the richness beautifully. Others at our table enjoyed a varied and well-executed spread—waffles, grilled toast, crispy potatoes drizzled with aioli, thick-cut bacon, and eggs done just right. The standout visually and flavor-wise was a vibrant egg dish topped with a silky golden sauce and crunchy seeds that added texture and flair. Service was attentive yet relaxed, and the patio seating made for a bright, pleasant experience. Definitely a must-stop for a refined yet approachable meal in Quebec City.

While visiting my family in Quebec and attending my daughter's university graduation we celebrated this beautiful occasion in cute little restaurant. I was very impressed with the location, old town european atmosphere, delicious food, nice stylish decor and very nice service with the smile. I'm attaching some photos of our food so it will definitely make you to stop at this place when you are visiting this beautiful city.

We had brunch at Le Hobbit today. Very nice place, very nice guys, service fast and they paid attention to my intolerances. My husband had chicken and waffle, and for me the big brunch (the best scrambled eggs I've ever eaten!) with a refreshing homemade lemonade! Thank you!

We went there for dinner. It was fantastic, some of the best food I've experienced. Started with the beef tartare, 10/10 would recommend. Then we followed up with the tomahawk pork on brussel sprout salad and homemade pasta both 10/10. And to finish we tried the Before 10 chocolate macaroon with mint chocolate chip ice-cream sandwich and pana cotta/elderberry dessert both worth having. 100% would go back. Only thing I wish they had was a few more cocktails to choose from. But overall a must try spot in Quebec City!

Google
Good and different food - the apple sorbet with cheddar crumble was out of this world. The gnudis were also super flavourful. I found the service to be extremely disappointing and slow. Took forever to order. Would go back again.

The food and service here was spectacular. I ate the halibut, and it was delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice dining experience.

Yelp
Cool wine, delicious inventive food, nice service. Desserts are amazing too. This place has a rightful place in my favourites.

Yelp
This is a really good restaurant. Clean, casual-ish vibe. Staff is fun, in an irreverent kind of way. Great food. Outdoor seating. Kid friendly-ish for category. This is a place worth checking out.

Yelp
Le Hobbit has in the kitchen an ambitious and creative chef, no doubt, but also one whose tastes don't align with mine. Dishes sampled were either far too much or far too blah. While I liked the restaurant's ambiance, I just couldn't get past what was landing on my table. A shared starter dish featured asparagus topped with a huge heap of tomato coulis. The volume of coulis was impossible to escape and that proved unfortunate as I found the texture downright revolting. You may feel differently. An abundant serving of crisp potatoes was up next and topped with attractive, wispy cheese shavings. The potatoes were seasoned but, unfortunately, a bit oversized and terribly one-note. They could've benefited by inclusion of onions and bell peppers but no, they were just potatoes and I grew tired of them long before the bowl was finished off. Finally, a busy salad featuring Mussels was plated nicely but full of a mix of flavors that I didn't find enjoyable. By this point in both the meal and this review it's blatantly apparent that the chef's tastes stray far from my own. In a nutshell, there wasn't anything I ate here that I'd order again. Le Hobbit has an upscale, charming ambiance but the attraction of the food - all of it - fully escaped me.

Yelp
We made a reservation, but it didn't seem like we needed to. The restaurant had a lot of tables available when we arrived. We ordered fresh oysters and salmon tartare as appetizers. The oysters were probably the highlight, but some did have fragments of shell. The tartare was also good, although I didn't care for the abundant turnips. As an entree, we had the trout collar. The trout was good, and I liked the fried onions on top. I didn't like the pickled fiddlehead ferns on the side. I felt like the dish was doing too much. It was also a small entree. Aside from the food, what got me upset was the wait time. After ordering, the oysters took 20 minutes to be brought out. The salmon tartare took another 20 minutes. The fish came 45 minutes after the tartare. The waitress did apologize and stated that there was some problem in the kitchen. In all we were here for about 2 hours! I was still hungry, but I didn't want to spend more time there.

Yelp
Overpriced, nice atmosphere where the waiters are not happy with tips . As a globetrotter found it quite arrogant. Food quality OK ... nice presentation but not recommended.

Yelp
Stopped here on my 1st day in Quebec - was seated right away and had the Cauliflower Panna Cotta which was light and refreshing. Service was amazing and I wasn't rushed - Able to enjoy my 2nd cup of coffee on the house! Great ambiance across from a church/park on busy rue st-Jean - great people watching on a relaxing Saturday mornings!

Yelp
parked a couple blocks away on the street. we make a reservation for brunch the day after xmas. the host seats us down on a large table. we shared the table with other parties. the place has a nice ambiance. lots of countryside paintings. tree bark decor. woodsie chic? we order cappuccino, a mackerel dish, a salmon dish, some sausage and bacon, potatoes, and finished with an apple crumple. to be honest, i don't have much reference with french canadian food. we liked everything. all the dishes were fresh. the flavors were good. i would eat here again. the cappuccino order has two cups. i had one in the beginning and the other cup with the dessert.

Yelp
Stopped here during my Quebec City Trip! Food, drinks, and dessert here was great! The service was great as well. Staff was friendly and helpful! Note: the menu at this place changes frequently. The iced tea and lemonade are homemade and unlike others I've had! Flavors were unique! For the appetizers, we got the foiegras and the vegetarian that day which was shishito pepper over ricotta cheese and spices. Both were good. For food, we got the catch of the day and sweetbread and scallops. I did not know sweetbread was meat/pancreas until later. Was not the biggest fan of the texture. The scallops and the sauce were great though! The catch of the day was great as well! We were pretty full after the food and appetizers, but decided to try the corn and blueberries . It was amazing!! Would highly recommended trying if they have it.

Yelp
Saw good rating in this place so we decided to give a try as a tourist. We ordered 1 appetizer, 2 mains to share with kids, they also offered fried chicken strips for the kids. This French restaurant is too notch, their bread is $1.5 pp comes with homemade butter. Their bread is soft and fluffy. Beef carpaccio is really good, so as the duck breast, oh the sauce is really good. Halibut is ok like normal fish but the sides make it so tasty. Portion is a bit smaller than usual, luckily we aren't that hungry. The only downside is that they serve very slow, guess that happens in all French restaurants. Kids can't wait and they are super bored.

Yelp
It was our first morning in Quebec City and we were going to have crepes. The four of us decided to be different and we are very glad we made that decision. Le Hobbit is not a very big restaurant, but it was cute and cozy. Upon entering we were asked if we had reservations (we did not), however we only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. The menu is not very large, but it does not need to be - among the four of us we tried eight different things off the menu. Every single thing we ordered was delicious! I ordered the gourmet egg of the day, which was a poached egg in a veal bourguignon broth with pearl onions and carrots, served with grilled pieces of bread. It was delicious!! My husband and oldest son ordered the shakshuka, it was delicious and different - no tomatoes in site. It was a great change of pace. My youngest son had the Eggs Benedict, which was made with braised deer meat and black truffle hollandaise. It was out of this world. Sides of apple butter with toast and Spanish herbed potatoes were also very good. Le Hobbit also offers one free refill on all coffee orders. Service was just right, not too fast or too slow. Our server was able to answer all our questions and offered some good suggestions. We left with full and happy bellies ready to face a cold day of sightseeing.

Yelp
Went to get breakfast here on a rainy day. They have a few window seats that were only available if you made a reservation. They serve the food in small portions, it's kinda like you have to choose some side dishes to complete your brunch plate. Their cappuccino has free 2 ne refills with really thick milk foam Staff were really friendly and talkative, I think the vibe is more warm and relaxed I really like their platting, this is so far the nicest platted brunch I've ever had. The food was more on the heavy side with the thick sauce, there's not a lot of light healthy options like fruit Egg Benedict: i found it really unique, the sauce for egg Benedict is usually yellow, first time having it green, still taste pretty good Carrots were sweet and crispy on the outside with really thick sauce around it, plating was nice Potatoes: it looks quite interesting, it feels like baked potatoes Chicken waffle: fried chicken breast, my boyfriend liked it, it wasn't too dry. The waffles are sweet even without any syrup on it they might have added it to the mix already

Yelp
My first ever tasting experience! Their 5-course blind tasting is $75/person and the items change weekly based on ingredient availability. They are also very accommodating as they change up tasting items depending on your dietary restrictions as well. The lamb croquette was the second tasting item, but they made a leek with cheese for me instead since I don't eat lamb. Overall everything was so delicious and unique. Everything was made in house as well including the chips on the beef carpaccio, cheese in leek, and charcoal bread with the monkfish parfait. Excellent service too!

Yelp
Most amazingly unique and delicious brunch food I've tried in recent memory. Photos don't do it justice... we tried nearly every thing on the menu.

Yelp
Delicious food, high quality service, and cute atmosphere. My husbands pork tenderloin was infinitely better than my cod. All very high quality ingredients I felt the cod fell flat and left something to be desired. I would absolutely get the pork again and recommend that dish.

Yelp
They were very helpful when I called to confirm & recommended another restaurant for duck breast; we opted to go here & it was AMAZING food! Had entrees 1) sweetbreads & prawns & 2) homemade sausage! The foie gras was the best I've had in a long time! Dessert (Carmel crème brûlée) was almost orgasmic!

Yelp
We got the mushroom Benedict and the pork schnitzel. Both amazing. Server was fantastic he made great suggestions. 10 out of ten. We sat by the windows overlooking the street so the view was great.

Yelp
Our concierge Marie at Chateau Frontenac recommended and secured our reservation. Reservations highly recommended. After a modest walk outside the old city we felt we entered the real world again. Le Hobbit offered outstanding food, service and ambience. We had the fish of the day (halibut), sausage dish, soup of the day (bell pepper and tomato) and the deconstructed cheese cake. All were outstanding. The photos tell the story.

Yelp
After reading the reviews, I thought having a brunch at the restaurant would be very enjoyable. The servers were very pleasant and welcoming. We didn't have a reservation but there were a lot of available patio tables outside. We ordered the chicken waffles and buckwheat entrees. About 35 minutes later they came. My partner's buckwheat entree was flavourful and warm. My chicken waffles came lukewarm to the touch although the plate was warm. The chicken was tasty and dry. The waffles were deep-fried and overcooked. Not what you would find in New Orleans. Other customers who ordered the same, got the same quality of overcooked waffles and over-priced boneless chicken nuggets. I asked the server if the temperature of our entrees were what the restaurant expected for each of them. She said the chicken-waffle should have been hot while the buckwheat entree was warmish. She was surprised about mine and asked if I would like another entree. I told her no, given the length of time we waited for our entrees.

Yelp
My friends and I took a trip up to Quebec and this was our first meal after arriving and checking in to our stay! I had called earlier in the day to make a reservation but when I arrived, they said there was no such reservation. However, our waiter was extremely nice and luckily there was a table opened for 5 anyways so we were seated immediately. It's a cozy restaurant but they have a lot of seating on the other side of the wall which you first walk into. There is even a large table for a group dining experience. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share amongst ourselves and started off with a few French onion soups. The soup was so amazing and was a great way to start off our Canada trip. It was the perfect amount of cheesy and onion-y where one didn't overpower the other. We also got dessert at the end which was surprisingly really good as well! I also got a Negroni and it was standard, strong and good! Lastly, our waiter was exceptionally amazing and entertaining ! He helped us take a photo and was humorous to include a selfie as well! Great place to eat in Quebec and isn't too much of a tourist spot either!

Yelp
We were super excited for this spot after a long day of dog sledding. The reviews were glowing, so we called to make a reservation. They were able to fit us in the next 30 minutes for dinner. Upon entering the restaurant, we saw that it's a beautifully decorated, tiny space. It looks upper scale yet cozy. There was no one else in the restaurant at the time; we were promptly seated at the corner near the window. Menu is limited. It encompasses literally less than 1 page. Ordered the duck heart & cheese + charcuterie as appetizers. We had to remind our waiter of our 2nd appetizer because he forgot. Charcuterie was interesting with an array of cheeses & meats from different regions of Quebec. I would only order the duck heart again; the sauce was delicious and it was well-cooked. Entrees we ordered were the steak & fries and scallops. Prices are atrocious for portions. We understand this is fine dining, but $34 without tax for 4 pieces of scallop? We struggled to flag down our waiter to refill waters. They also do not offer straws at this restaurant. We were also freezing the entire time we were dining; it turns out that our table was seated next to an OPEN window. Multiple times other waiters attempted to serve us food that was ordered at other tables. Small portions, freezing atmosphere, aloof service for a bill of nearly $150? We will pass next time. Though I am a firm believe that good quality food will come at a pretty price tag, Le Hobbit certainly is not it.

Yelp
This is a gem hidden in plain sight. Walked in without a reservation but was accommodated with seats at the bar. The young bartender took care of us. She was professional, friendly and helpful. My spouse ordered a glass red wine. A taste was offered before pouring. The wine was excellent. My draft beer was full to the brim. No pressure to order our meals. When we were ready, she described the special. Arctic char a la maison was my wife's choice. I decided to take the Burger. Both were well presented. The Arctic char was an amazing dish. The burger with fries were well cooked and delicious. Jana had the drink of the day (La Peche). She quite enjoyed it. I had the Cafe Hobbit. Creme Brule with a maple syrup treat was gratis as an anniversary token. What a wonderful experience. Next visit to Quebec will definitely include a return visit.

Yelp
This cute small restaurant came up when looking for local French cuisine with vegetarian options. We decided to give it a try after passing it up our first night in town, and boy are we so glad we did! The vegetarian appetizer and entree were delicious, as was my partner's catch of the day (Halibut). We really enjoyed getting a taste of the local food and were really impressed with both the presentation and ingenuity of the food. The cocktails were a little boring, but still good nevertheless, and we really enjoyed our wine pairings with dinner. I would definitely recommend trying this place out! The service, ambience and overall experience was excellent, even for two New Yorkers who have a lot of great food in their backyard!

Yanik N.

Yelp
Absolutely a ripoff. Food maybe ok, just ok. But definitely not for the price. They said it's small plates. Should get 2 to 3 each person. Should really be 6-8 each person to eat. We ordered 8 plates for 2 adults and a kid and 245 dollars later left hungry. Really hungry, had to get a snack on the way home from dinner. This is my first review and I had write it. Be ready, maybe decent food but don't expect to eat unless you spend a ton, A Ton!!! Just saying........

Yelp
Over priced and underwhelming. We went to Le Hobbit as our first dinner in the city. Service was rude, with the food spotty. Half the dinner party couldn't even finish their entrees. Go with caution.

Joyce C.

Yelp
I would give this 0 stars if I could. The wait for the food is absolutely terrible. We waited 45 minutes for bread and over an hour for our entrees. We ordered Escargot and it was completely tasteless, it had no flavor whatsoever. The duck breast was tough, chewy and hard to cut. The terrible food quality was not worth it and i definitely DO NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Mike L.

Yelp
Good, interesting food in casual but nice environment. Great service. Accommodated kids but menu a bit adventurous for the little one.

Yelp
Your average expensive French food and fancy plating experience. Considering the prices and food around the Chateau in Quebec City, you are really getting a bargain by coming here. As for the food, I found it to be average and really nothing to show for. We paid about $50 a person after taxes and tips. We ordered the duck Wellington and steak. The steak was very, very average. It will come looking like your diner experience with stringy fries and a small piece of steak. Overall, there was nothing that stood out for this dish. The duck Wellington is also a deconstructed version, so don't be confused when it comes looking less familiar. The duck was cooked well with a nicely complimented mushroom medley in a scoop. The mushroom was very flavourful and probably the most beautiful mouth of food on this dish. The duck was a bit gamy in my opinion and could have been made a bit better. To be honest, I probably won't be returning to this restaurant. Service was superb but kind of slow and food was kinda average.

Yelp
Excellent food! 100% recommend, the potato waffle was amazing! Taste was amazing! Staff was super nice, scenic view, beautiful.

Yelp
We did the tasting menu and the wine pairing and it was quite exceptional. We loved the veal carpaccio and the lamb rack especially and their wine choices were unique and paired well with the food (not to mention very generous pours). We especially enjoyed the service and hospitality of our waiter Sebastian who was extremely knowledgeable and passionate. We will definitely visit again.

Excellent food & service. Chefs are very creative with very fresh ingredients. I will update later

Yelp
Not sure if this enchanting restaurant is related or inspired by JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings novels...but its a great place! A red headed giant viking of a man warmly greeted us in his native French tongue, but quickly switched to English upon my "Parle vous Anglais?". It was a weekend so we were able to get table, but you'll probably need a reservation on a weekend. The interior isn't a reproduction of Bilbo Baggin's home, but it is warm and lovely without being pretentious. $14 Cheese platter...4 different local cheeses, with extra sauces and pickled morsels. Delightful! $24 Salmon Tartare...fresh and healthy, with some nice frites. $26 Venison Steak...hard to find this in America, so I went with it. Seemed leaner than a beef steak; tender, savory and exquisite. $6 Grapefruit custard dessert...hard to describe, but creamy and heavenly. Our waiter was friendly, amusing, and humorous, as well as the rest of the laid back staff, but still professional. I'll be eating here again someday.
google avatar

Roxie G.

Yelp
The menu photos posted on Yelp is outdated. They don't have foie gras or tartare anymore. We basically ordered based on what the waiter told us what's available. It seems like they are between transitions. A lot of local people came for drinks around 2-3pm. It might not be a touristy place to visit in Old Quebec. We got the soup of the day, another dish (vegetable based) and the black pudding. The vegetable dish tastes ok, the soup was a bit heavy, but the black pudding is sweat and savory, which was not what we expected.
google avatar

Minnie L.

Yelp
Warm, cozy and small french restaurant on the street of the old Quebec City. Service and server was fantastic. He explained and gave us his recommendations thoroughly in English although the menu was all french. We started with a very cheesy and creamy french onion soup. And I got the Elk Flank Steak as my main dish. It was juicy and had an unforgettable texture. I wouldn't hestiate to eat that again. Finished with a traditional french creme brulee with alcoholic chocolate on the side. It was a memorable dinning experience for the first time in Quebec City.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
Nope... this place totally missed the mark. I do not recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Quebec City. Perhaps the langue barrier caused our poor experience? Not sure. But with so many amazing restaurants in this city I simply cannot advise others to dine here. I'll just go right into the issues... my medium rare steak shoulder ($28) was burnt horribly (see picture) That's completely unacceptable. I let the waiter know and he didn't do anything to remedy the situation. After attempting to choke down a few pieces of the burnt cow carcass, I could not eat any more. Definitely the worst steak I've ever had. So I highly over paid for the sides that came with the meal... fries and a very small salad. Since I was still hungry I ordered a spiked coffee (trying to drown my sorrows from a very disappointing meal). Another mishap to note was that the waiter brought us the wrong bottle of wine. We ordered Pinot noir but instead he brought something else. Strange, because I pointed to the bottle I wanted on the menu. What he brought was a bottle that tasted and smelled like stale vinegar. Strangely, when my friend asked if it should taste like vinegar, he said yes. Really!!?!?!? Absolutely awful. Luckily he replaced it with a much better bottle without charging us for 2 bottles. I will point out that the waiters were friendly, seemed to speak great English and were hilarious (gave my friend a banana as a gift - funny and weird). The homemade fries and creme brûlée were also petty tasty. Also they have wifi (but it was kind of spotty). The sort of positives are the reason I'm give 2 stars instead of 1. So... bottom line.... this restaurant should have replaced or comped my burnt steak (but they did not). I don't even think my friend's dog would have eaten that steak. And this place is simply less than average. So please take this review seriously and make some changes. At this time, I can't possibly recommend that anyone eat at this establishment.

Yelp
Was really excited to try this place but the experience was underwhelming. The service was great but the ambiance and food didn't cut it. It was a hot day and they didn't have AC and we ended up getting a table outside so it was a little better except when they sat another table near us and the person was so close they literally kept hitting my head. The appetizer came out and it was yummy. We had the dried duck ham and we expected the main courses to be even better. Except our food took forever to come out and the dishes were very hot when they were served and the rabbit as duck breast were both dry and chewy. Maybe it was an off night and unfortunately we missed out.

Yelp
What a great place! Full of charm. The wait staff are passionate about the food, drink -- and making sure you are attended to. Aa a lone diner, I elected to sit at the bar for dinner. Delighted to see a Negroni on cocktail list but surprised to not see Campari among the ingredients. We use our local liqueur, I'm told. It was great to have a variation on the theme and a full explanation and was offered a taste of everything. The beef on fries was very flavorful, but a bit too dry. I had ordered it medium rare but that might have been lost in the noise. It's a lively place. The waiters/bartender are all friends, it seems, and having a such a great time with each other and the patron. It's like dinner/theater.

Yelp
My family and I came to Le Hobbit for dinner on our vacation to Québec. We made reservations in advance, which I would recommend seeing it was full all night long. We were sat inside which was dim but aesthetically pleasing. The windows were open to the street which created a good air flow since it was a bit hot inside. There are tables outside, but they only fit parties of two. Our waiters were so funny! They did a great job at explaining the dishes to us in English. For an appetizer, we tried the beet mouse concoction. It probably is the most interesting appetizer I've ever had. The bread and butter given were also top notch. As others have noted, the entree menu is a bit limited, however I thought my meal was great. I had rabbit with potatoes and vegetables and I enjoyed it. My sister had the steak and fries and I got to try some of hers. I thought her fries were perfect. This restaurant is nice. It is nicer than your average restaurant, but not too nice that you are worried about what to wear. Whether you are a local or tourist, I think one could enjoy Le Hobbit.
google avatar

Anu M.

Yelp
Le Hobbit came out highly recommended - both by tourists and by locals. Making advance reservations is a wise thing. With reservations, we waited for a few minutes before we got seated. Looks like the menu changes, so the menu you see in the pictures may not be the one you get for the evening. They had a very crisp menu, with 4-5 choices of appetizers and 3-4 choices of entree. For appetizers, we ordered the sauteed chanterelle and fiddlehead - the portion size was pretty small, but I loved the dish itself. For entree, we split a plate of braised beef, which was served on a bed on pureed potatoes - Excellent.so delicious. Finally wound up the meal with creme brulee, which was absolutely divine! They have an amazing selection of wines, I tried one of their French dessert wines and enjoyed it. Definitely a pricey place for a meal. But worth every penny. A great choice to celebrate special occasions.

Yelp
When I see a restaurant with just a few items on the menu, I immediately expect that the chef is super focused and tight with the stuff rolling out of the kitchen. So I was excited about eating here. A couple of things were stellar, including the cocktails - no super precious, "curated" list here - just a stable of super well-constructed and classic drinks. The bartender took her time with my Manhattan, and the results were terrific. But...too many execution errors out of the kitchen. The burger, ordered by one of my crew, came out not just overdone but with an acrid sear, as if the grill had been oiled (why would you do that though?) and the oil burned. The mussels weren't washed well, and multiple bites had a sandy crunch. That being said, the black pudding I ordered was phenomenal. Although there was a sad segment of grilled corn sitting on the plate that had zero business being there, in my view. The charcuterie plate was mostly very good, but pretty unexciting -- one little recommendation, Chef, if you're listening -- a little mustard, or perhaps some spicy honey, would be a welcome addition to the plate. The staff, as others have mentioned, are both fantastic and fun. And it makes me sad to give this place less than 4 or 5 stars, but the experience was just not good enough.
google avatar

Anna-Marie T.

Yelp
Charcuterie plates here are soooo good!! It is a mix of typical items and more adventurous items. My favorites from the plate were the blue cheese, brie and olives. Interesting items to try were the rabbit and blueberry mix and the different jams. The plate also had typical charcuterie meats such as salami and prosciutto. The plate was served with delicious bread that was refilled upon request. Great place to stop by for a snack and drinks. The vibe is so relaxing and you never feel rushed. Wish we had more time and bigger appetites so we could've tried the dinner menu!

Yelp
Pros: Bread, butter, calamari, gazpacho, salmon tartare, beef burger with fries Calamari was nicely crispy battered and the sauces accompanying provided complemented well with it. Salmon tartare was a nice little starter dish; very small and delicate. However, there was a lot of flavor in that small portion. Gazpacho or fresh seafood in tomato sauce soup was very pleasant and cools you off on a hot day. The burger was just right in terms of what you'd expect from a good burger. The house-made fries that came with the burger, with the mayo sauce is how it's commonly eaten here in french Canada.

Yelp
I made reservations for this place a month ago for this trip. I'm so glad I did. We got here and we were greeted wonderfully by one of the employees. Once he knew we speak English and have a reservation, he was super friendly after. We were led to our table and after a short wait, Sebastian greeted us and let us know he will be looking after us for the night. We started to noticed the decor of this place. Very well lit, on a main strip, this place is packed on a Friday evening and all the guests are enjoying themselves. This is a good sign for a restaurant. So we started looking thru the menu and glad they have both French and English. We saw some dishes we liked and then we wondered what's on the specials. Instead the specials are actually their mainstay of the restaurant: steak, burgers, French onion soup and etc. So we ordered a steak medium rare with vegetables, risotto with oats and peas, marrow with snails and French onion soup. After some time, Sebastian came by and said our appetizers are on its way. I like that! He kept us informed with what's going on and given us an expectation. Great experience so far. And not long after the French onion soup and marrow arrived. We started to dig in. French onion soup was very sweet as the broth was superbly made. The cheese was melted and oozing of goodness. I had a bite of the bread soaked in the soup. WOW! And then we moved onto the marrow with snails. I find this different than most. I've had marrow at other restaurants in Toronto. This place makes it a bit different. Don't know how to put into words honestly. Had a bite of the snails mixed with the sauce and the marrow. Yummy! After a while Sebastian came back and gave us a heads up the mains are arriving in a short moment. When the steak arrived, I started slicing into it. The juice was still encased into the steak and it's perfect medium rare. We had a bite and we were mind blown. Tasted so juicy and flavourful. I was amazed. I had the braised veggies after. It has butter and a red wine reduction as a sauce that braised the veggies. Soft and juicy. A bit too much butter. But meh, it tasted good. Moving onto the risotto with peas, oats and mussels. This thing is so light and tasty. The oats are wow. It's a good alternative to the risotto rice and not as heavy. I honestly can say I haven't had peas and oats that tasted this good. We were so full after this meal. Overall experience is 5/5 and this restaurant is highly recommended for good food and not overpriced.

Yelp
We enjoyed our French lunch today at Le Hobbit. We both had the tatin de tomates séchées et oignons caramélisés. The taste was quite good and it was not something that we would typically order. The service was good as well. The restaurant was quite busy for 1:30 pm.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Had to try the Elk Flank Steak since I've never had Elk before and it seems to be a favorite. It didn't disappoint. Got it medium rare. Very flavorful type of meat. A little more gritty texture than beef but super moist and tender. They had the perfect amount of char on it and served it with a number of different veggies including some onion patty thing that complemented the dish well. The waiter said the elk was from an area near Montreal. I loved it. Wife got the charcuterie cheese plate. I'm not a cheese guy but she loved it as well. The bread that they serve is nice and crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside. Their presentation of it looked pretty cool too. Overall, glad I listened to the reviews and got that elk. worth the try!

Yelp
What a great way to start the day! After climbing stairway up from St Roch to explore Old Town we were looking for a good breakfast to fuel our full day of ranging. I had scoped Yelp prior to our visit and saw Le Hobbit as a good option. And there it was! Hot coffee and a nice selection for breakfast. I had the egg white omelette and hubby got the two eggs. The 'brown bread' was full grain and was yummy! Breakfast also comes with a mini smoothie which was not sweet / just the way I like it. My omelette was great with a nice hollandaise added with the veggies. Hubby likes his eggs runny and they got them just right. Staff were all great, friendly and fast. The cozy atmosphere added to the relaxing experience and the place was handicapped access which isn't standard in the Old City. So thumbs up all the way for Le Hobbit!

Yelp
Let me be honest here that my experience was not a great one. I had only one night in Quebec City and the only dinner we had was not a beautiful experience. Food was pretty good, but nothing to brag about. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the food and the service provided by our server. However, the bartender who was helping to serve guests sort of ruined our dining experience. He was not providing any hospitality at all. No smile, no greetings. The worst part is when we were waiting for our dessert, my boyfriend accidentally dropped the spoon and the bartender who was passing by our table, instead of at least picking up the spoon, he said 'OUCH!' and just walked passed us. No new spoon was offered. Nothing. Is it because our skin colour or cause we don't speak French? Not sure why.. I didn't expect to be treated as royalty but for the fact that this happened, it such a shame for such good rated restaurant. Disappointing.

Yelp
We had a great meal here! The food - wow! For an appetizer, I wanted the yellow/red beet salad but they were out; however I was pleasantly pleased with the fish pastry. The flavors were so balanced and textures were fun to eat. Then I had the tomato tarte. It was awesome! It's the vegetarian option, so know that but it absolutely was one of the best plates of food I've had. My husband had the sea scallop, mussel, calamari- about 2 bites of each - he said maybe one of the best appetizer's he's ever had. Then he got the shoulder steak and thought it was very good - he couldn't stop eating the fries. Service was welcoming, helpful and just present enough to be attentive.

Yelp
Great service, friendly folks, amazing mussels, crappy burger, nice charcuterie board from local producers, nice québécois beer list, nice broad wine list (3.5x retail) One ding... no A/C or fans so on a hot humid summer day, you're gonna be hot.

Yelp
I want to give this place more stars because the staff was very friendly and funny but the food didn't give me the WOW factor. We were given crostinis and butter to start with -- the butter was very good for some reason. I'll give them that. They were very mindful of the water and kept refilling our glasses esp with one teenager who drank about 5 or 6 glasses of water BUT the glasses were small. Four out of five of us ordered french onion soup. I wish we ordered a couple for taste b/c only one person finished their soup -- the rest didn't. Such a waste. It didn't have that much flavor and my nine year old said my french onion soup was WAY better than that. Our entrees were seared duck breast that my 15 year old said was good. His buddy ordered black pudding not realizing it was liver Lol. We didn't hear him ordering it b/c we were fixed on the menu ourselves. I wished the waiter warned the teenager what black pudding was but that's our fault too for not paying attention. He did Not eat the black pudding nor his french onion soup. I ordered dried tomatoes tarte tartin & it was just ok to me. My bf didn't order an entree but ordered their charcuterie board which he said was pretty good. We walked there from our hotel and I don't recall what time we arrived there...maybe 8pm??...early July and there wasn't a wait and we didn't make reservations. There was about 4-5 other tables while we were there. Overall, their service was great but I can't say the same for the food.
