Le Manoir du Lys

"The huge forest of Andaine surrounding this restaurant, depicted by light wooden wainscoting and a leafy terrace, is undoubtedly its ‘raison d’être’. Poised between Maine, Normandy and Brittany, these green lungs nurture and nourish the forest-inspired cooking of chef Franck Quinton. His way with mushrooms is out of this world: roast cèpes in thyme and laurel, girolles sautéed in rosemary, apricots and hazelnuts, chanterelles in cream of foie gras and parmesan or horn of plenty with ham and ciboule onion… If you stay the night, you can even go picking with him! This wholehearted chef is also a champion of local produce and his pigeons, veg and meat all come from within a few dozen kilometres. Delicate, appetising food served in an elegant, peaceful interior: heaven!" - Michelin Inspector

Such a beautiful place located in the middle of the Andaine forest. The room was absolutely beautiful with 3 balconies to enjoy the scenery. Their service is impeccable as they pay attention to the smallest details. Must try their Michelin star restaurant.||Highly recommended, thank you for hosting us.

While a little close to the coast to make an ideal first night in France for those on a leisurely schedule this is an splendid place to stay. While our bedroom was slightly old-fashioned and the lift is definitely old style French Hotel this did not detract from the Manoir’s charm. The Manoir is in a wooded area just out of town and is set in a delightful garden with some very interesting plants. The public rooms (which are not in the least old-fashioned) have good views over the garden. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our dinner (though you probably have to like mushrooms) and the wine list is very interesting. Breakfast was spectacular with an amazing range of home-made items ( I have never seen my husband eat chocolate cake for breakfast before) and meant lunch was not required. Overall definitely five star

This establishment is a bit « in the middle of nowhere » and this is precisely why I recommend it. I use it as a convenient stop-over when traveling to Brittany (half way between Paris and Brest) or for an extended weekend stay when I want to get away from it all. Prefer the “Pavilion des Bois” which are very confortable suites that are good value for the money. There’s a heated indoor pool, and an outdoor one too, weather permitting. The restaurant is top notch. But with the town of Bagnoles de l’Orne nearby, you have a wide variety of restaurants to choose from just minutes away if French gastronomy is not your thing. Finally, this a a great place if you’re traveling with your dog.

Stayed here recently with a group. The room was small, the bathroom tiny. Not unexpected in France. However there was no aircon or fans (2 hot nights). The door to the balcony could not be secured and the safe would not work. On bringing this the attention of the staff they were kind but offered no alternative.|The group dinner on the first night was lovely, as we anticipated, but was less than average on the second night.

We did dine at the Le Manoir Lys restaurant to celebrate a very special occasion. Very nice food and very romantic atmosphere. Tabel service was impecable. Food locally sourced and very fresh. Fully enjoyed our time to celebrate a special occasion. One confusing/dissapointing thing was the fact that we both ordered 7-course meal, but somehow our choices MUST be the same as we were told. I do not understand why? When I am paying $400 for the meal I would like to be able to choose what I want to eat from the menu and do not restrict myself or my companion from food options on the menu.

We stayed here on our way back to Caen to get the ferry. Great service by the staff and great food. Although don't expect a normal restaurant menu,as the food is very fancy and served as a work of art (very french) . The rooms have been upgraded after our last visit. They are clean and tidy , although we had a door which went through to an adjoining room ,which when the people returned from a wedding being held ,we could hear them talking. But after a quick bang on the door they quietened down. Lovely grounds with 2 swimming pools one indoors out one outside. €165 for the room , spent €200 in the restaurant (it's not cheap) on food and drinks. We didn't have breakfast, although it is good ,we wanted to carry on with our journey and stopped in McDonalds later.

This lovely property is set in a rural part of Bas Normandie on spacious grounds with pool, tennis courts and a fitness spa. The hotel portion is retrofitted into an old manor house, with each room distinctively decorated, most with nice views of the grounds. There is also a newer wing. Check out the extensive photos on the Tripadvisor site to capture the decor ideas. During the pandemic, they reverted to packaging their award-winning recipes for take-out, but now, there is no reason to miss the one-star experience of dining in. |The ingredients are all farm-to-table , creatively designed to be a feast for the eye, as well as the appetite.|I would recommend the table d'hotel multi course dinner with amuse bouche, entree, main courses of fish, seafood, or both, the salad, cheese course and desert. |The wine list, elegant ciders (a Norman specialty}. and signature cocktails are all first-rate.|By the way, the breakfast buffet is equally extraordinary, with homemade breads, sausages and charcuterie, unusual granola, a soft-boiled egg station and wonderful pastries and gateaux.

Staff is available and welcoming. The location is great, next to a forest and the city of Bagnole de l'Orne.||The pool and the garden are great to enjoy.||But beware of the pricing and final invoice, which can be wrong.

Yelp
If you are looking for an outstanding gastronomic experience as well as great value then the restaurant at Le Manoir du Lys is for you. A one star Michelin chef for more than 15 years, Frank Quinton's focus is on local ingredients, in particular mushrooms. The courses are creative and the presentation elegant. If you are traveling in the Normandy region, plan dinner and a night at the hotel. We stayed in the Lodgment du Bois, which is a newer contemporary structure adjacent to the manor house. The rooms are all on a second story (over carports) with expansive views of the surrounding pastures and woods. I highly recommend a stop at Manoir du Lys during any visit to Normandy
