Where to Order Mardi Gras King Cakes and Galettes Des Rois Around the Bay Area | Eater SF

"I noted that Le Marais (498 Sanchez Street, San Francisco and 250 East Blithedale Avenue, Mill Valley) is selling traditional French galettes des rois through the end of the month: 12-inch versions of flaky puff pastry wrapped around either a frangipani ($45) or nut-free apple ($40) filling, complete with a paper crown and a ceramic fève; orders are placed online and require two days' advance notice." - Lauren Saria

Google
Another 5 star review for Le Marais is in order. Service is friendly )and with a French accent), the ambience is quite nice and the food is excellent. Today I ordered the Tuna Nicoise which tasted fantastic- only thing missing was capers but great nonetheless. We ordered an almond & chocolate croissant to share & have with our lattes. Both were yummy but the almond was my favorite. And the prices are extremely reasonable too!

Le Marais Bakery delivers an exceptional dining experience, combining a cozy, French-inspired atmosphere with outstanding service. The staff’s customer care is impeccable—friendly, attentive, and highly focused on making sure you enjoy your time there. I had the avocado toast, which was fresh and perfectly seasoned, but the highlight was the lobster Benedict. They creatively substituted lobster for crab meat, and the dish turned out phenomenal. Every detail was carefully considered, making this a five-star experience. I highly recommend Le Marais Bakery—you will not be disappointed!

Google
Best French toast I have ever had! And their pastries look incredible! The best part is they are dog friendly with a large outdoor patio area! Highly recommend!

A great weekend morning, my sister and I had coffee and breakfast together. The atmosphere here is very pleasant, pets are allowed to be "cute" here. My noodles were delicious and my sister's burger was also delicious. I will come back here on days when I want to relax after a tiring week of work because the space, staff, drinks and food are all very good.

Google
This is by far my favorite breakfast/brunch restaurant in Mill Valley! The food is amazing, including the French pastries 🥐 and the coffee! We come all the time and bring family and friends, who also love it!

Google
This place was a gem! Food and bakery were amazing. Great outdoor seatings as well! Got a French onion burger & croquets madame

Google
First time eating at the restaurant but I ordered take out a few times before. The ambiance is a bit noisy for my taste. Long wait to order. Ordering feels a bit rushed. The food is delicious and it is no doubt about it. The staff was nice and the food was prepared in a good amount of time. The pastries were so yummy! Outside seating is nice. Family friendly Pet friendly $$$ Parking lot available for free.

Google
The Togo counter has very quick and efficient service. This is a great place to stop for either a grab and go box or a dine in breakfast. Everything looks amazing, it’s difficult to choose what to purchase!!

Yelp
Le Marais - A Slice of Paris in Mill Valley Le Marais isn't just a bakery -- it's a little passport stamp to Paris, tucked right into the heart of Mill Valley. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by Fifi and David with the kind of warmth and good humor that makes you feel like family -- or better yet, a cherished regular at a café on the Left Bank. The food? Magnifique. Every croissant, quiche, and tart tastes like it was whisked straight out of a Parisian oven that morning. The butter sings, the espresso hums, and the flavors dance -- rich, layered, and utterly authentic. Whether you dine inside, surrounded by that cozy French charm, or outside under the Mill Valley sky, it's always a treat. Le Marais is the kind of place that reminds you life's simple pleasures -- a perfect pastry, a kind smile, a good cup of coffee -- are the best kind of luxury. Bravo, Fifi and David. You've made something truly special here. Larry Dark

Yelp
Best service! Great place for lunch with friends. Croissants and coffee to die for. But I'm so glad I haven't died so I can come back for more.

Yelp
Best service and food ever especially the funny girl who works the register. The food is consistent and delicious.

Yelp
Other croissants are ruined for us now. Le Marais croissants are light, laminated, flaky, and perfectly buttery. Those bready imposters from other shops just won't do anymore. Everything here is delicious, authentic, and magnifique! Fifi, David, and the whole staff make you feel welcome--and make incredible lattes. Stopping in feels like a mini vacation, especially when you can sip your coffee on the patio outside and admire the doggos. We're so lucky to have Le Marais in MV!

Yelp
Amazing food, great coffee and service that feels like an old school family spot. They are lovely. Highly recommend the breakfast board but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I would happily eat here every day if I could.

Yelp
This is the second time we came to eat in this place. The first one was a year ago, and it was excellent. This time the baked goods were not satisfactory at all, the service was even worse, and the prices are much higher. The egg dishes are still very good, but since the staff missed our coffee order, we had to eat it cold. I know that prices in the Bay are out of control, but Le Marais Bakery took them way too far for the stale croissants and mediocre coffee.

Yelp
We stumbled across this place after shopping at Corte madera mall. It is located in downtown mill valley. We arrived at around 7 and to our surprise this looked like more of a restaurant than a cafe. After looking at the menu for a few minutes we were warmly welcomed inside by the server. We almost thought we went to the wrong place but the inside is beautiful! Decorated with Christmas decor we sat in a corner and ordered coffee and a butter croissant. ! The vanilla latte and croissant were excellent but the French hot chocolate was average. I would highly recommend this place for coffee lovers!

Yelp
Came during the afternoon for Sunday brunch with the boys. We loved the selection of pastries, especially the pain au chocolat! Lovely cashier who offered alternative options when I asked for no cheese in my salad. Glad they use fresh quality ingredients. We ordered: Chocolate croissants Chicken corn cobb salad Buckwheat crepe Croque monsieur The boys were hoping for more airy flakiness from the chocolate croissants (they're snobby frenchies, harsh critics)!! However, I loved mine and the chocolate batons inside were nice and thick! Mmm! Loved sitting outside under the umbrellas. Very dog friendly.

Yelp
What a cute cafe! We've been to the old space in sf Marina but this is so much nicer - airy and a beautiful space. We stopped here for breakfast with our baby before heading to the children's museum. We ordered some pastries, coffees, and a 5 item bistro board. The board was perfect for the baby, we got to choose what we'd like and everything was actually great. The scrambled eggs were done beautifully French style; we also for some avocado, seasonal fruits, yogurt, and prosciutto (for the adults). The pastries were delicious and a good variety. It's a bit on the pricier side but given the location and quality, it's not unreasonable. We'd def come back for breakfast again.

Yelp
Had an early morning in Marin and wanted to make a stop at Le Marais after hearing so much about it over the years. I need to stop going to places just for the hype. Parking was very easy--private lot off to the side. Only space for about 1-2 parties to wait in the queue of (admittedly very beautiful) French pastries laid out on a counter--similar to b Patisserie in SF, but not as good. You must order at the pastry case/coffee bar/cashier before being seated. Mostly tables of two with some possibility of moving tables together--but you'll have to do that yourself. Pastries are served lukewarm at best, almost cold, and same for the "hot" coffees. We ordered the five-item "bistro board" which was really a sad excuse for small portions of items at odd temperatures and thoroughly unsatisfying. Bacon was cold, yogurt whey was beginning to separate from the milk solids, smoked salmon was lukewarm and oily, and the croissant was cold. Really, a simple pop in a toaster oven (or a microwave, even) would have made this review go from one star to two. The three staff members behind the bar were more focused on recording Instagram content than taking orders or moving tables to accommodate the parties of four that entered after us. Very disappointed with this visit--I'd recommend finding better patisseries in San Francisco, or even try a Costco croissant at that point.

Yelp
We absolutely love Le Marais Bakery. The staff is always so friendly, and the whole atmosphere feels welcoming the moment you walk in. Their chocolate croissant is my absolute favorite -- flaky, buttery, and consistently delicious -- and their lattes have become our everyday go-to. Everything tastes fresh and made with such care, from pastries to their brunch and lunch options. One of the things that keeps us coming back is their beautiful outdoor area. It's always well maintained, peaceful, and fully dog-friendly, which means so much to us since we only visit places that welcome dogs. Whether it's a busy weekend morning or a quiet weekday treat, it's become one of our favorite places to relax and enjoy great food, great coffee, and genuinely kind service. Highly recommend.

Yelp
A very cutesy cafe - lovely grand ambiance and a plethora of drinks and pastries to choose from. The indoors was absolutely beautiful, it felt very European. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating! We ordered the cinnamon bun, almond and chocolate croissant, and the pain aux raisin. The cinnamon bun was delicious, perfectly layered and had a wonderfully caramelized bottom. I do wish there was a bit more cinnamon sugar, but ah well! The chocolate almond croissant and the pain aux raisin didn't blow me away. My sister compared the flavor of the base croissant dough to the croissant dough at Costco, which isn't bad, but it didn't blow us away. The almond chocolate croissant had amazing marzipan, but some of the croissant dough seemed underbaked. The pain aux raisin was slightly gummy in some places, but was still good overall.

Yelp
One of our favorite breakfasts in Marin. On our constant rotation. Pastries... eggs... all amazing! Great seating indoors and outside. And wonderful people. We always feel so welcome coming here.

Yelp
The best morning is a start at Le Marais. Especially the amazing FIFI, who is a gem for the establishment. Pain Susie and ham croissant are my favorites along with the best Asian chicken salad around. When in-laws were in town, we did a burger take test with Le Marais, Buckeye, Bungalow 44.... And the winner is Le Marais! Merci Ambiance is super Paris feeling!

Yelp
WHEN: Sat @10:30am PARKING: Even on a Sunday Brunch time we managed to find an open spot in the shared parking lot, and it's free. Otherwise plenty of street parking to choose from that is for free. This recently became a new favorite spot to hang out, work and enjoy a pastry. But our second trip ended up spontaneously becoming a brunch stop! Because here's what I ended up ordering instead of just a pastry with my coffee: COFFEE - $4 for 16oz. So nice of the staff to place my leftover coffee in a to go cup for me AND topping it off for me since it had gone cold. Thank you! BRUNCH FOR TWO - $32 Straus Organic Yogurt, House-made Granola, Seasonal Fruit, Farm Eggs, Avocado, Smoke Salmon, Two Pastries. Brace yourself this meal for 2 is a lot of food! The table was completely covered. They are so generous with the salmon, and you get a whole avocado split into 2, placed on a bed of salad. The seasonal fruit were sliced strawberries, blueberries and bananas. We had our eggs perfectly scrambled and for pastries we had the croissants, which I can see why it won an award for the People's Choice. Yes there was leftovers and boy everything was good! The staff is absolutely charming and friendly! See you again real soon!

Yelp
Delicious coffee, fantastic burger, incredible pastries. Charming owner. 10 out of 10 recommend.

Yelp
We absolutely love Le Marias. My husband and I come here at least once a week for a slow morning cappuccino and delicious pastry. And if we are feeling crazy, we get one of the many amazing breakfast dishes. Love the omelets and Benedict's. The cappuccinos are also perfection. There might be a line, but it moves quick. The staff is amazing, attentive and fun. It's also so cute and charming inside and the outdoor seating. The pan au raisin, croissants and chocolate crème care our favorites but you truly can't go wrong :)

Yelp
This place has an amazing ambient and foods servicing by a lovely team. We are fans of French bakery and it is rare to find this quality. Be aware of the long line if you come at peak hours in the morning!

Yelp
From the space, to the pastries, everything here is aesthetic and pleasing to the eyes. Unfortunately that's where it kinda ends. Le Marais most recently became very trendy for their giant croissants. In fact I couldn't believe anyone would be able to make a croissant bigger than your head. The croissant itself was quite affordable at $12 a pop, but despite coming early enough and wanting to pay for a second one, we were told "you wouldn't need it" from the staff, who basically refused to sell us another one. Even if we might not "need" it, we were willing to "pay" because we "wanted" it. It was strange to be told this with no signs or information anywhere telling us there was a 1 per party limit. As for the giant croissant itself, it was exactly what you would expect. More of the novelty and fun than the taste. Split between four people, we each basically had a serving of a normal sized croissant. Our fingers and lips were shiny from just the first bite. It was a lot of butter, but you definitely wouldn't be able to make a croissant of that size without it. Would definitely recommend bringing some tums. Understanding that the giant croissant was an anomaly I wanted to give their other pastries another try. I ordered a Pain Suisse and a Kouign Amann. Let's start with the Kouign Amann. Their Kouign Amann basically looked and tasted like the traditional fried chinese pastry dough, glazed with sugar. It felt like no thought went into making it, and no thought went into flavoring it. I would recommend skipping this. As for their Pain Suisse, I actually really enjoyed it. The caramelized crust on the outside gave it an amazing crunch and there was just the right amount of chocolate to cream fillings. It could come off as a bit sweet alone, but if paired with a nice cup of coffee, this would be a perfect meal. My overall thought is if Le Marais is in your neighborhood, then absolutely make it your go to spot. I would personally if I lived close enough. But traveling 50 minutes to experience what I did, Im not too sure Id recommend it otherwise.

Yelp
A very cute shop with beautiful outdoor seating. You order at the counter and grab a table or you can do table service. We were only getting some pastries and drinks so just ordered at the counter. Unfortunately the Matcha was not very strong and tasted a little watered down? My pet peeve is paying extra for oat milk and not getting it too. Chocolate croissant and the special of the day orange croissant were pretty good. Pretty flakey! The Almond was not as fresh and tasted a little flat.
google avatar

Laura O.

Yelp
Pretty good pastries. Gotta heat them up though. Very low stock for being 11am. Only like 3 choices. The cinnamon croissant roll was amazing. The coffee was good only have vanilla flavor for the latte. The menu for lunch/brunch looked good. But we just had time for pastries and coffee.

Yelp

Yelp
We love Le Marais! Especially Fifi, she's the best! We come here to see her as much as the food :) But the food is also top notch!

Yelp
Incredible pastries and the friendliest staff. The croissants are the best I've had outside of France.

Yelp
Ok, Milly Valley Le Marais, you have exceeded my expectations. The restaurant here is so lovely. The high ceilings, hardwood floors, and large windows imbue the space with plenty of natural sunlight and coziness. The lady at the counter--whose name I missed--was so personable and bubbly. I ordered an oat milk vanilla latte, a Kouign-amann, and the croissant egg sandwich (no cheese). I couldn't detect the vanilla flavor in the latte and, lamentably, I don't think I received oat milk because my stomach was extremely upset for the rest of the morning. The side salad that came with the sandwich was a bit bitter and too sour for my taste--I believe it had a mustard seed dressing. However, the Kouign-amann baton was delicious as usual, with a great crunch, flaky texture, and a butter-sweet taste. The harissa sauce on the sandwich was immaculate. It tasted like a sweeter, tangier version of chipotle mayo--a bougie cousin, if you will. The croissant egg sandwich was the best croissant sandwich I have ever had so far. I'm looking forward to dining here again.

Rebeca H.

Yelp
Fidi and Dav are te best! My favorite lunch spot in MV, come everyday. Highly recommend the Niçoise salad and onion soup.

Yelp
Best brunch in Mill Valley with a French atmosphere. Fifi and David are the best! Benedict, crepes, coffee is great!

Yelp
Fantastic pastries, coffee and people! Hands down the best brunch in Mill Valley. You won't find a better croissant in the Bay Area!

Yelp
Best cafe in Bay Area! Hands down. Cappuccino and croissant a must! We love the eggs and bacon superb

Yelp
What a spread! Be prepared to marvel at the pastry case. So many mouthwatering options. The pain au chocolat was flaky and crisp. The kouign amann baton is even better than an original KA. Ive never had it in this form and it was the right amount of sweet and so addicting to eat!

Yelp
I love this bakery. All the food is delicious and the staff are the best and always so sweet to our family.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe! Love the art inside and the vanilla latte was so good!! Adored the outside seating with my babygirl!

Yelp
The best customer services ever! Food is always fresh and so so good! It's the best environment inside! I love FiFi as well - she's always so happy and remembers my order. She takes time to ask how I am. This place is so great for the community!

Yelp
Got the brunch for 2 the avocado was not even ripe I couldn't even cut through it with my butter knife. Only gets 2 stars for the fruit salad and croissant which were really good. Iced coffee drinks were watered down as well. Very passable.
google avatar

Ashley O.

Yelp
Delicious crepe complete! There are only so many places that offer a buckwheat French crepe, and the one here hit the spot. And the espresso drinks were a great complement to the brunch options. The cafe is adorable and airy, a beautiful spot to enjoy brunch or a pastry and coffee. While the service was friendly it was a bit chaotic and slow. If you have the time to sit back, enjoy the food and ambiance, it's a delightful visit.
google avatar

Jocelyn S.

Yelp
The iced mocha is SO GOOD it actually has little chocolate pieces which are so fun. I've never had that elsewhere. My friend and I shared a nicoise salad and half chicken. The nicoise salad was super balanced and I loved the butter lettuce. I just wish the leaves were chopped a bit smaller but that's me nitpicking. The fries that came with the half chicken were amazing! Perfectly seasoned and fried. The chicken's dark meat was delicious, and the skin was nice and savory and crispy. The white meat was a little bit dry, especially when the chicken cooled. I wish the focaccia was more flavorful, it was very much just, like, bread. The tiger pastry was very rich though. This cafe is actually so so cute and such a nice vibe. Great for a light brunch with the girlies, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There's just a short line to order and food comes out pretty quickly. This place is perfect for a brunch before doing work at the Mill Valley Library. I will say I think they have a bit of a fly problem, hope they get it resolved soon!

James B.

Yelp
Coffee was great. Pastries are superb. Food was less that great but good. I had the French flan, which was custard pie, and delicious. I also had an Asian cabbage salad with chicken, which was generous, but the dressing could have had more zing. My wife a Had a chocolate almond croissant, which was yum, and a ham and Gruyère egg sandwich, which while good, left her with a bit of a sour stomach afterwards. Overall a good place to get baked goods, and be selective with entrees.
google avatar

Lynn S.

Yelp
The service was very friendly, when we left they gave us some extra pastries. The food was delicious, especially the salmon. The restaurant had a nice ambiance and lighting, very well-done. Make sure you come with a reservation because it got very busy, it's a popular spot!
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
We got the brunch for two. It's got to be the best bang for your buck, but I was admiring what the other patrons got (or a big French toast fan myself, but whoa! Looked good!) and everything else looked so good too. Be prepared to wait in line. It's worth it and the staff is extremely friendly. Brunch for two is a massive portion and I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Exceptional in every way! The service at Le Marais is warm, attentive, and consistently top-notch -- you feel genuinely welcomed from the moment you walk in. The food is equally impressive: the granola bowls are perfectly balanced and fresh, and every pastry is truly outstanding. Their croissants are hands-down the best in Marin -- flaky, buttery perfection that rivals anything in Paris. A wonderful spot for breakfast, brunch, or a fabulous dinner. Mill Valley is lucky to have it!
google avatar

Haley L.

Yelp
The coffee, while beautiful, was a little bitter and my salmon scramble was ok. The branding and shop is so cute inside, but would love to see a higher quality of coffee, especially since they have good pastries!
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
Usually this place is brilliant. The best French onion soup, pastry and coffee. But the last time I went there, the pastry case was empty and every vase in the restaurant was filled with dead flowers and rancid water. What the actual heck?
